I've been searching for the machining process on acetate handles for almost a year now. If you ever look down the barrel of an older acetate handle, sometimes you can see how the flats are uneven, like one side of the fluting is narrower than another. I always thought they started out as a circular stock that was first contoured on a lathe and then milled, not the other way around as in this video. Super neat
-- The bar stock material isn't machined, it's extruded under pressure and that's why you will sometimes get handles that aren't concentric from one side to the other. This is especially true with foreign made tools where quality isn't always job number one. Best wishes! - Max Giganteum
