For those saying that this video is 30 years old, it's not. This episode came out in 2001 during the first season of 'How It's Made', according to Wikipedia.
Bike manufactures make a variety of bikes as was shown in the video. Yes the final scenes showed some low end bikes. (form a BikeForums poster) "The video was made just about the time that Procycle's Peugeot license would have expired, circa 2000/2001. Consequently, the video features CCM bicycles, a brand that Procycle bought in 1983. Regardless, those are the actual manufacturing processes that would have been used to build many of the North American Peugeot."
Yes - cheap bikes are made in China, and I'd imagine those CCM's are now Chinese made. Most bikes of decent quality (Trek, Giant, etc) are now made in Taiwan, which has much better quality standards. High end bikes are made in many places.
@freemusicblogg I ride a 1969 Steel Frame Austrian Bike. I rode with a group for 35+ miles and my bike was one of the fastest...probably the weight. haha
It's not welding at all, it's brazing. Yeah this is probably an old vid, nearly all cheapos are Chinese now, mid range stuff is Taiwanese and high end custom stuff is handmade in almost every country.
HOW OLD IS THIS VIDEO? 20 years old??? Now a days all the bikes are made in China and those people are not chinese. I am a Walmart Bike Mechanic-assembler for almost 11 years.
all countries contributed to the first tour de france.... so Iraq and iran, and Afghanistan, togo, canaries, north korea, Alaska, Tuvalu, etc. how come I don't see these on the list of competitors, also that aint welding at 1min40, that's called brazing.
He said 2,500 bikes made per day??? ÷ by at their best, a 12 hour day = 208 bikes an hour. .. ÷ 60 minutes= 3+ bikes a minute. I'd like to see a bike built in 20 seconds. What I am really getting at here is people of the world are full of total bullshit. Almost everything you here is lies, from criminal minds... behold The Redeemer! Yeah more bullshit. Money is god.
The video is from the 80ies. Look at the brakes, horribly inefficient calipers which haven't been used for decades, and good riddance really. Modern linear brakes are more finicky but at least they stop you swiftly.
The gear cycle is not a good thing to do with the other one that I have to do with the other one that I have to do many things in the world of the following questions and answers to the questions that you have to do with the other one that I have go to daili to win shiva cycle and get to the questions that you have to do with the other one
lol. of course walmart bikes are made in china. I doubt that a $6000 dollar bike is made in china. maybe taiwan (quality stuff) but you can't generalize on all bicycles.
well, at Wal-Mart or canadian tire, all is same store for me. and you said you,re a mechanic?, make me laugh man,..I already bought a bike at Wal-Mart and one in canadian tire, and the bikes were not adjusted.. and the company who make these bikes don not put a lot of grease or oïl..That's why the bikes are so cheap...

except for the installation of an engine it seems a mini car manufacturing unit... thanks for posting..

@AndrewKH85 Yes, they confuse 'assemble', with 'make'. You make parts, then assemble them.
I can't wait to get my hands on some chrome aloy
the 'welding' is actually brazing, the 'paint' is actually powder coat. And the spoke machine puts 'tension', not pressure on the spokes.
sweet job putting stickers on a bike how much they pay?

Well, good video but I prefere my old steel CCM bikes. all my bikes start about 50s to 70s....The old sttel bikes are better than new bikes today..
If Freddie Mercury were still alive, this would be his favorite episode of the show.
It is good to know that my bike is mostly made by hand
Wheel Rims? That's a new one.

So that's where Halfords get their bikes.
These* aren't* their*
And I agree with you!
They are good quality bikes, but the video is ~30 years old...
It's not welding at all, it's brazing.
Yeah this is probably an old vid, nearly all cheapos are Chinese now, mid range stuff is Taiwanese and high end custom stuff is handmade in almost every country.

@freemusicblogg
My bike is made out of bone, HUMAN bone! :D
Leonardo DaVinci drew a sketch of a bicycle (chain drive and all) way back in the day.
wow thats some automated welding lol
God, I would not build one of these soul-less junkpiles for $2500 a day... Thousands of kilometers? LOL.
Thumbs up if your watching this in 1993.
exactly
all countries contributed to the first tour de france.... so Iraq and iran, and Afghanistan, togo, canaries, north korea, Alaska, Tuvalu, etc. how come I don't see these on the list of competitors, also that aint welding at 1min40, that's called brazing.
I came here for Downhill bikes, Not Walmart/Canadian Tire bikes!
they had way better bikes then that 30 years ago
Cursirr true my dads bike is better

The title should be, How it’s made: a crappy cheap bike.

Like if you don't ride a Walmart bike
"and will run for thousands of kilometres" ...hmm
Will Vickery my dads bike did 5000k he has had it cince the 70s
Yes and procycle makes some low quality bikes and they are not solid and tough.
No bicycle is going o go thousands of kilometers without serious adjustments. They act like it's plug and play.
back when even shit bikes were made in Canada
All I hear it tube tube tube
@harz1835 confusion

Saranya Srangmai Or, maybe, they build several bikes simultaniously? Who knows. The world is full of mystery!
Oh god, these are cheap bikes. I want to see some carbon fiber manufacturing!
The video is from the 80ies. Look at the brakes, horribly inefficient calipers which haven't been used for decades, and good riddance really. Modern linear brakes are more finicky but at least they stop you swiftly.
Title should be "How It's Made cheap shit Bicycle ".
All that effort to make a shit bike .
these bikes very poor quality!
@ThatComputerguy1 your not going to get any thumbs up
