Welcome to my channel 'Healthy Moves'.
This video explains all about 'Frozen shoulder' also known as 'Adhesive capsulitis.
It is a condition marked by pain and stiffness in the shoulder joint. It is caused by thickening and tightening of the soft tissue capsule that surrounds the glenohumeral joint, the ball and socket joint of the shoulder. When the capsule becomes inflamed, scarring occurs and adhesions are formed. This scar formation greatly intrudes upon the space needed for movement inside the joint. Pain and severely limited motion often occur as the result of the tightening of capsular tissue.
This is commonly seen in diabetics and females within age group 40-60 years.
There are two types of frozen shoulder: primary and secondary
    ●Primary Frozen shoulder:
The specific causes of this condition are not yet known. Possible causes include changes in the immune system, or biochemical and hormonal imbalances. Diseases such as diabetes mellitus, and some cardiovascular and neurological disorders may also be contributing factors.
    ●Secondary Frozen shoulder:
It develops from a known cause, such as stiffness following a shoulder injury, surgery, or a prolonged period of immobilization.
    Stages of Frozen shoulder:
    Freezing Stage:0-6weeks /0-6 months
    Frozen stage:6weeks/6months to 2/3years
Recovery(Thawing stage): Duration depends on the duration of first 2 stages.
Freezing stage is mainly characterized by pain and inflammation.
Treatment involves application of cold packs and gentle range of motion exercises (within painfree range) to improve circulation to the joint and maintain mobility.
    Exercises for freezing stage includes:
    •Pendular exercises
    •Shoulder Shrugs
    •Shoulder retraction
    •Stick/wand exercises
