Mixed Media Experiments: Abstract Painting with a Credit Card

  • This a (mostly) REAL TIME video demonstrating how I use a credit card/gift card to create an abstract painting! I've often used this approach for adding paint or effects as part of a larger mixed media painting, but I don't recall using this technique for an entire painting until today. I'm VERY pleased with the results and will be doing this more often now that I've seen the beautiful effects that come with this application.
    Do you use credit cards in your art making process? If so, what's your favorite way to use them?
    Materials used:
    Canson mixed media sketchbook - amzn.to/43MN2cE
    Nova Color acrylic paint - www.novacolorpaint.com
    Gift Card/Credit Card

    My dearest Jackie. You had me holding breath and bursting out with laughter from one moment to the next. With a minimum palette and micro minimum tools, again, you worked your magic. After several gasps of breath, I am absolutely intrigued with the outcome 😅😂😅😅😂 This approach will be my week's focus. Thank you always for your authenticity and inspiration.🙏🏽🥰💖✨💖✨💖✨💐💐💐

    Just watched this. What a journey with the left one, Jackie! I'm surely a bit weird, watching these videos like a thriller action drama, excitedly waiting to find out how it's gonna end: Will she bring out the collage paper? Close, but no. What about that drip, will she leave it or wipe it out. Yes! A wipe it is! Etc. I think this one had a really happy ending. 😀 Both paintings appeal to me. Thanks for bringing this to my home movie theather. 🥰

    Good video, as always. I like your approach to art making! You asked about if we use cards: I use cards as well, in the same way you do here and also to cover areas quickly with paint. I hate washing brushes, so if I can use a card I do. Also good for getting air bubbles out from collage pieces. Some cards I cut into smaller strips to paint narrower shapes and into some I cut notches to use like a comb.

    • @jackieschomburgart
      @jackieschomburgart  Год назад +1

      Oh, yes! I love the idea of cutting into the cards! I have a couple catalyst wedges with cutouts of various shapes that I use to make thick or thin stripes, but I’d love to make my own variations. Such a great idea! ❤️

    This is like watching myself paint...we have very similar styles. This is my favorite way to paint with acrylics. I save all of my old gift/credit cards and cut them into different shapes. I also love to use this method with modeling paste. Last, but not least, we share a love of quin gold! 🤣😂🤣😂 Thank you so much for sharing with us!

    Jackie, when I work in my various sketchbooks/art journals, I use 2 very thin and flexible cutting boards from Dollar Tree. They are easily cut to the size I need to protect my past and future pages. They come two in a pack for $1.25 and are found with the kitchenware. I have been using them for years and love that they work without all the bulk of extra paper getting in my way if I have to reposition my book. It's just an idea for you and other viewers, that I really love for my own work. I hope you all try it and find it just as convenient as I do. (And they are super easy to clean). P.S. Those cutting boards are also easily cut for stencils and masks that you want to use right then, rather than leaving the house or waiting for Amazon...). Have a great week all!!!

      Yes! Me too…the yay’s and the noooo’s. It did however, validate how easy it is to cover up what you don’t like. But my worry is what if I cover something and after I cover it, realize I liked it better before I covered it. And this does happen sometimes! 😂 I enjoyed the ride of twist and turns. It was exhilarating!😁

    Admire your courage in not adding collage :) (When you said 'you know what I want to do,' I did know -- maybe a wee bit of it can finish them). Every once in a while I get visits to artist's gallery shows in my YT feed and they're mostly pretty appalling, utterly boring among other things -- everything you do, including when you work in your sketchbook, is leaps and bounds above the stuff that seems to be 'trendy' -- there is so much life in it, identifiably *your* life but also ours ❤
