I have had Cream Legbar hens and rosters for 4 years. I have had about 6 other breeds going back for 38 years. In the video you just saw none appears as good quality Cream Legbars, one rooster excepted. At about 6 months of age I get about 4 eggs a week per hen. Color is a nice blue or green/blue, size is medium. Their temperament is "shy" as compared to a Buff Orpington, which is very friendly. There are varieties and strains of this breed. They have been heat tolerant here in Southern California.

I find the different egg colours interesting. When I retire I am going to make a garden and try to have different hens.

But, if you took HS biology, you likely studied "Punnett Squares", the geneticist's basic graphing tool to determine the %chances of different parental characteristics! I adore my delightfully adventurous little huge-blue-egger Crested Cream Legbar "Melody" even just a tad more for her famous "inventor"! And I won't clip her wings, since she only goes alone over the day-fence and always under the better tree-cover, into our chicken-safe backyard. (If the others followed her, I would definitely rethink that strategy for the whole flock's safety.) She is quite wary of hawks, and seems to be able to get herself just as easily back home.

Wow! Live and learn. I was told universally that Legbars were a result of Barred Plymouth Rock-White Leghorn cross.

You mentioned that temperament was possibly linked to the strain of bird- which strain is more docile?

My Crested Cream Legbar "Melody" and Plymouth Barred Rock "Pia" are the friendliest & easiest to handle at all times, but my Light Brahma "M'Lady" is the queen of poise. keeping all her sisters much mellower than if she were not there. M'Lady even protects my bottom-of-the-flock Ameraucana "ChiChi" from some of the endless harassment she receives from the others. Of my 8 "docile" breeds & crosses the heaviest hen-peckers are my Olive Egger "Livvie" and substantially less, my Blue Copper Marans "Bluezy" (who I was surprised to discover constantly tries to live up to her songstress name.)
With enough space and distractions, my lovely flock seems quite healthy and happy, and I can tell exactly who laid which egg, too!

    • @jollyroger5646

@@localbuzzkill1760 doesn't do well in mixed flock, keeps soft spot longer, depending on strain you could have flighty or docile. Beautiful birds, but not for me. Just my take. Not in video, egg prodution about 150-200/year. Also, that was just me being, well, my name!😉🤣 Have a blessed day!
