      Unfortunately , that is true for all non-gaming and non-enthusiast peripheral reviews .
      If your products do not appeal to gamers and enthusiasts (e.g. scissor switch keyboards , office mouse , color accurate monitors) , you will not be properly tested in a review and risk in customers being beta testers and potentially be cheated on .

    I've been using the Satechi Slim X1 keyboard for a 2.5 months now. I largely agree with you. There is a lot to like about it. I personally prefer the key travel and feel as opposed to the Apple Magic Keyboard. What you call mushy, I call firm tactile. I find Apple external keyboards to be too harsh on my fingers. I guess I'm a tough typist.
    I must have gotten one of the earlier units as well. At first, I'd get keys double-registering keystrokes. It was a little annoying but I was quite certain that after a little while, the keys would wear in and that would stop. And it has. Mostly. Once in a while it happens. It could be me. I could be just noticing more because of the obvious keyboard problem earlier. It's not annoying. We all make little typos here and there.
    I actually like the little, attachable feet on the keyboard. I thought the first thing you did as well: it feels cheap. But then I love the simplicity and tank-like feel of the keyboard firmly planted on my desk. You don't have to worry about them snapping off. And if you don't like the height, get some other attachable feet you can find in most hardware stores.
    Battery life is awesome. In the 2.5 months using the keyboard, I've charged it 2x. Once at install. Fantastic battery life.
    Of course it lacks some polish and features available on the Apple keyboard. The backlighting while helpful could be nicer. Everything else is really 'Apple Only' like checking the charge via the menu bar and having to disable File Vault for the keyboard to be recognized at boot. Little things like that. But certainly not deal-breakers.
    I'd give the Satechi Slim X1 keyboard a 'high 4' where I'd give the Apple keyboard a 'low 4'. There were some teething pains in the beginning but I love it. I'd buy another.

      Man, that's one of the best comments I've ever seen on RUclips. Thanks Ricardo!!! Glad you like the keyboard. You're right, not perfect, but definitely good. I really like it. You got one fact wrong, keyboard being tilted towards us, does not make it easier to type. It only makes easier to see the letters, but it causes more strain to the wrist, since it has to curl more upwards.

    I've been using this keyboard for a couple months now and I like it, but it's not perfect. A few irritants:
    1) There's no battery charge indicator in the macOS bluetooth menu like there is with Apple devices. So you can't see the current battery charge status.
    2) The included USB-C cable feels a bit flimsy and cheap.
    3) I live in Canada and couldn't find this keyboard at any Canadian retailers. So I ordered it directly from Satechi. While the keyboard itself is reasonably priced, by the time you add taxes, shipping, and DHL's import fees it starts to look like a very poor value.

    • @Kevin6t8
      @Kevin6t8 3 года назад

      Wow! That's interesting. I'm in the U.S. and like you, I couldn't find them in stores either and ordered from Satechi's site. Unlike you, I got a small discount and free shipping. Why is that?🧐

    • @mattbarry79
      @mattbarry79 3 года назад +1

      @@Kevin6t8 you live in the land of the free! UPS/Fedex/DHL charge a pretty penny to bring stuff across the border into Canada. You pay an international shipping fee (say $20) when you place the order with Satechi. Then after it ships, the courier emails you to let you know that you're going to be on the hook for taxes (maybe $7 or 8) and their money-grab processing fee (another $20). At this point they have your package and can hold it ransom until you pay up.

      I have various mechanical keyboards and even an optical gaming keyboard. Nothing beats the feel of the keyboard on my Macbook Pro M1. I hear you, other scissor-switch keyboards feel either too stiff (hands get tired when typing quickly) or too "mushy" (cheap). The Macbook Pro M1 keyboard is perfect for me, and I have yet to find a keyboard that has the exact same feel.
      Having said that, when it comes to typing speed and precision I am most proficient on my mechanical keyboard with Gateron brown switches. They keys are easy to press (45g activation) yet spring back quickly enough, and the tactile bump trains the muscle memory to confirm that I have indeed pressed a key. But I still prefer the FEEL of the Macbook Pro M1 keyboard. I wish I could buy one just like it to attach my my Windows PC.

      Yes, this is the biggest problem I have found with Satechi Keyboards. I wish they would fix it, it's the only thing wrong with them but so annoying. The Apple Magic Keyboard is the same size and they manage to do it, battery lasts forever and it never goes to sleep.

    The most main benefit of this keyboard is, that it's available in cabled version 😳 Apple don't offer anymore. Thank you so much. I am searching several years for a good replacement of my old apple, wired keyboard with very short press depth...

    biggest question is, does the X1's fn key work as normal, default fn key for Mac?? because I set Siri command with fn+space combination for my old 2013 late MBPr and I was disappointed to the fact that Logitech K810's fn key wouldn't be recognized to my Macs

  • @thomasanderson5929
    @thomasanderson5929 Год назад +1

    The wireless X1 version is kind of unreliable; the keyboard goes to sleep often and inconsistently; sometimes after a few minutes, other times after half an hour. To wake it, requires pressing keys a couple times. When it's connected wired to a monitor's USB hub and you turn the monitor on, the keyboard DOES NOT WORK; for some reason it needs to be unplugged and plugged in again; this is also true when it's connected to a desktop motherboard's usb ports or even a case's front panel, the same happens if the computer has been turned off.
    The keyboard's finish, tactile feel, colours, backlight, etc. ALL are amazing. It's just too bad it's so erratic. I may consider getting the wired version (Slim W1) instead, though realistically the Magic Keyboard may be the more sensible purchase to ditch the cable.

    The keyboard itself feels great, but the bluetooth connection with windows 11 is VERY problematic. I don't know which side is causing the problem, but connecting is a pretty hit or miss thing.

      Yes. Unlike many other Bluetooth keyboards whose USB port is for charging only, this Satechi keyboard will connect to your computer via USB and will work in that mode with the computer’s Bluetooth turned off completely.

      Does your Slim X1 need to be turned on and then back off when turning on the computer? I have mine connected to my monitors USB hub (eventhough it's wireless) and each time I turn off the monitor overnight and turn it back on the next day, they keyboard needs to be reconnected via the cable. It's really annoying.
