My dad is from Palermo and you totally look like one of his brothers...you fit right in. I've visited Sicily many time and the wonders of it NEVER end. Mazara is yet another jewel I had't even heard of. Sicily is truly a place of never-ending discovery, fantastic local food and very warm people. It's easy to see why there's so much joy in your eyes.
Good luck Milton , the town town looks lovely, I'm sure everything will fall in to place for you all , hopefully soon I'll get to paint your railings here in the UK and hopefully one day a trip over to see you all
I pray you wont fail. May be RUclips can be another source of income even though not for now. I suggest you research tricks to attract viewers and subscribers. First i would suggest to point the camera at the house more than yourself. Then titles of video are important also. Words like Renovation,Italy,Diy attract people. Also do collaborations if possible with other RUclips in Italy Like Leaw leave everything and wonder they are in Italy. Good luck to achieve your dream
Well it’s a weird thing. You kind of walk around. See somewhere that’s empty. Ask the neighbours. You then ask an estate agent to approach the family that owns it to ask if they will sell it to you…. So weird. That said. I compared prices on the idealista website
I'm new to your channel, thanks to the YT algorithm. If I understood you right, you bougt the house without seeing it in real life? Could you let me know where you found the listing? The house has so much potential, I wish you all the best in renovating it and starting to live the Sicily life.
I first noticed the house when I visited about 15 years ago. All those years later I found by chance that it was still up for sale but at a much much lower price. Couldn't resist despite all the work that needs doing :-). If you google "vendesi italy" the two main sites are Idealista and Immobiliare.it
Many thanks. Hope to have part of the house divided up by end of the year to open B&B next year if not later this year. Getting too hot to do the work on them right now. And priority of course is to move in.
I'll put something together. It's different here but changing. Basically you look for a house that appears abandoned and speak to the neighbours to find out who owns it and if they will be willing to sell it. As I say it is changing and in the last 4-5 years several estate agents have started up in town and all feed off of the www.idealista.it/ website.
A digital nomad visa may be worth looking into. You need to show proof of income from it ~ €28,000/yr. Maybe your adult kids could be your ticket there? Working under the table in Italy is fround upon if someone reports you. The short term rental idea is better.
In some regions (Southern Italy) you can also apply for a low Income Tax of around 5% fixed for ten years. And yes the Financial Police are defiantly on the case here. No messing around.
My family comes from Italy . We are American and my parents are second generation. I would love to move there but I was told that the Italians over there think Italians from America are muts
Well I can’t speak for the rest of Italy. But southern Italy / Italians are very warm and welcoming. In fact northern Italians think Southern Italians are kind of nuts because they are just far to happy :-) must we all that good weather, food and wine 😊
The house needs a lot of work, which won't be cheap to accomplish. Not sure how do you plan to live with 7000 Euro per year ! Not easy to find a job in Sicily, and I hope you do speak Italian, or sicilian dialect .
Getting there with the Italian. Luckily enough speak English but focus is on my learning right now. We are still within budget so things are looking good. I'm seriously considering a bike hire shop for work :-)
I am in complete agreement with Princesscc comment , how can you possible hope to live on 7000€ a year as a family ? and do reparations . Do you and your family speak Italien , i wish you well but I am sad to say that you are dreaming .
B speaks Italian (language teacher). £7k a year is proving to be realistic for food and groceries. Our weekly shopping bill is about £60. The renovations are coming from our savings hence me doing most of the work :-) Once the Solar is in, our biggest bill will be taken care of too.

Let me know when you’re next passing.
I hope it all pays off for you.

It will be great if you turn the camera to focus on the house and not only your face, thanks for sharing your amazing adventure!
Thanks for the tip
Such a great achievement and very brave. You’ll do it, I have no doubts. Wishing you every happiness in Sicily!
Thank you so much!
I pray you wont fail.

You won't fail buddy.
Me and the misses have the same dream.
Make it happen - its a life / game changer. Very little to no stress and my time is my own.
Hey mate looks absolutely serene. For others looking to move, are you able to recommend any good real estate agents?

Rental prices here are crazy low compared to the UK - 300 euro a month gets you a lovely 2-3 bed 2 bathroom place in the centre of town.
