So I just installed this today. My instructions said to put the cylinder 1 on tdc with line on flywheel in center of the timing hole. Turn the cam counter clockwise and hold in position while you turn the rotor clockwise until the light just turns on. The procedure seems to be the same as setting points without having to get the .018 gap. So now I am confuse do I adjust holding the cam or just rotate the rotor only?
There's probably several ways to do this. It's been a while since I timed mine and I haven't had to revisit it since, so I've been riding it for the better part of a year now. If you do kinda what I show in this video it should get you pretty close. Also, some good writeups on timing a Dyna S ignition on the chopcult forums. Let me know if I can help.
Hey bro, I guess this is my next step. Just got my kicker kit installed, kinda works maybe 75% of the time , not very smooth at all. And yes been around kick starts for many yrs. Might want to pick your brain about this ignition set up. And as always, many thanks , Ride Safe. Guy Speight
It's pretty easy when you go to set the timing on these now that I've actually done it. We can chat over the phone if you'd like and I can help walk you through it.
hey man i was having the same issue with my 01 1200 custom , i had the line straight in the center , on the left side and even the right side but couldnt get my ultima to light up, it would only light up when the rear cylinder was on tdc on compression. which is super odd. and when that happened a single dot was in the timing window. and based on the manual it should be a Line and not a dot. confusion has been kicking in
I think from what I vaguely remember from reading the service manual, and asking around on ChopCult, there are some year models which you time by lining up the single dot in the hole, others the double dot, and others the vertical line...... I ended up using the vertical line. Hammer Performance has a great video that is really better than this one on static timing an adjustable ignition module like this one and they use the vertical line, like I did.
Most aftermarket ignition systems replace the VOES system and functionality. The only reason I converted from the stock ignition setup to this one was to make it kicker friendly
Thanks! Yep! I ride it all the time. Riding it tonight actually. I mainly make videos to document what I've done so I can remember in the future hahah!
@@chaselentz8738 Welcome, right on that's awesome to hear that, I've an 02' XLH I'm trying to put old school advance points on so I can cut out most of the electrical wiring!! "Keep the rubber down and the chrome up"!!
Gotta back it off a hair to where the light turns back off and lock it down.

Good video, just like I did mine however, you gotta advance the weights.

depends on what year u hav. they changed markings
Having the same problem. How did you fix it?
Hey did you keep the vos on your bike or get rid of it? Wondering how your bike ran after thanks!

Ohh ok cool thank you! So the dyna s runs without the vos than hey.
Nice bike did you ever get it running?
