- Brandon Masi Parker shows the seven step Spencer technique for the shoulder.
Frozen shoulder/adhesive capsulitis refers to a stiff glenohumeral joint with decreased loss of range of motion, mostly abduction and rotation. The adhesive capsulitis pathology progresses through three stages: acute ("freezing, frozen and recovery. The best course of action for a frozen shoulder is prevention but if there is already a significant loss of ROM, the Spencer technique can work through some restrictions when used as a direct modality. This is one of many OMT modalities that can be applied. It is necessary to look beyond the glenohumeral joint to all shoulder joints & upper thoracics for a complete tx. The expectation for a slow progression of ROM should be made clear.
Also, OMT is often most successful when used as an adjunctive treatment with other forms of therapy. Adhesive capsulitis patients may need to be sent for physical therapy, placed on NSAIDS or sent for orthopedic consultation for possible intra-articular injection or even surgery

Brandon Parker made the coolest entry ever
As someone who teaches this regularly, this is the one of the best videos I have seen on Spencer. Well done gentlemen! :)
1. Shoulder extension, elbow flexion
2. Shoulder flexion, elbow extension
3. Circumduction with traction
4. Abduction and internal rotation, patient places hand on therapists arm, therapist holds the elbow
5. Adductction and external rotation, patients hand on therapist arm, therapist over presses through elbow
6. Internal rotation and adduction, hand behind back, two fingers on elbow
7. Abduction, patient hand on therapist shoulder, therapist walks closer and further to increase range whilst mobilising joint
Thanks DO team! Helped me prepare for the Comlex PE!
Nice entrance, Brandon. And thank god for this video considering the final final coming up...
This is the best (clearest) video I've seen on Spencer's!
Well done gentlemen
Super Super helpful. Thank you. Please make more of these videos. I have subscribed.
this is a greatest videp what i hbe been followed
@819lebron I'm sorry you're having that pain ZM. Pain on the top of the shoulder while reaching up could be an impingement symdrome or a rotator cuff tendinopathy (anywhere from simple strain to tear). There are several tests that can be done to come to a diagnosis and you would have to see a doctor in person to get an answer.
Nice technic! I will do it yet today 👍
Hello Doctor, I am frm India, I am a physiotherapist. good techniques of frozen shoulder exercises. thanks fr ur video.
yo this is king tier
The order of the steps is key to the treatment.
I love the way you entered the scene....🤣😉
This looks great, I intend to try it on a client (lady) who has frozen shoulder. Thanks for posting.
Did you get the results ma'am?
Results ma'am ?
Ma’am results please
@Didactics Oline Great tutorial, thank you. I have one question though. The last step, "milking", wouldn't it be better to change the direction towards the trunk in order to drain it in the direction of lymph and deoxygenated blood flow? Thank you once again!
does this help impingement
you shoiuld consider fixating the scalpula if goal is to get motion through the glenohumeral joint, but for sure tehere is major benefits to get the motions and activations through the whole shoulder girdle
What would your best course of treatment be for a frozen shoulder? If you used the Spencer technique but the patient had such limited mobility that they could barely go through any of the movements what would you do? HZ
Have u did for chronic patient
Very good but who was Spencer.
It takes about 6 to 9 months to fix and it is takin ages, 2 times a week I have to go to physio
Wow
I'm in physio now and it hurts, so don't even say it doesn't, frozen and dry joints. Is it bad if I cry haha
Pillows?
Yes
Please see the revised video description and I hope this answers your question. This information is of course intended for educational purposes and not clinical advice.
There is a mnemonic for this that begins with, "Ice cream for you, ice cream for me." If you happen to know the rest of that, please share it!
Sir is every step important?
A person with a Frozen shoulder will be screaming from you swinging his arm. It is painful!!!!! For sure you won't get that much ROM
