At first I thought that Quinns honestly cared about the pie budget, then I realised it was just an attempt to detract attention away from his wild Champagne buying. Clever.
You missed my favourite bit! The hidden objectives, one for each player but everyone scores against them all. Trying to deduce which ones the other players have quickly enough to capitalise on them is great!
they in general seems in a better mood than usual! Certainly makes for a more entertaining and engageing review, nice to have the old nature back as it did seem a slow drop off.
NickCybert yeah, they were silly back then, but the pacing and scripts were less good. the old reviews were good enough, but are weak compared to how good they've gotten.
I have now watched the entire SU;SD backlog and there are no more old SU;SD videos for me to watch. Quinns, Paul, Matt, please make some more old videos. Thanks.
Gg You needed to wait just another year to time those reviews with such "rainy" days. Maybe it's time for a refresher? Older SUSD videos do have a sort of inexplicable charm.
Ah, so helpful with the "Is is better than Concordia?" Also, that seemed to be homemade sparkling wine. Or did you just pour white grape juice in a glass and blow in it with straws until some carbon acid formed?
I've got to disagree with them here. I like Concordia, but I would play Troyes over it any day. Equal depth with way more moment-to-moment excitement. Little more spite in Troyes, though, so YMMV.
Nice review! Troyes has provided me with probably one of my best gaming experiences. Such a great game with so many possibilities, and tense, thought-provoking moments. Definitely a classic.
Nobody: Shut up and sit down: You shouldn't put custard creams in niche areas. Honestly, you should just eat them before you have a chance to put them anywhere
Hello! Do you still recommend Troyes after so many new games have released since your review? Do you think its still a must or at least a good buy today? Are you now in place to say which of Troyes or Orleans you like more? Thank you!
So many years after your comment i played troyes for the first time and i can say its really good definitly a good buy if you like games like concordia or istanbul but want something a bit meaner and it is definitly better than orleans, not even close imo
Stopped the video early on to look up custard creams. In fact I literally typed in "What the hell is a custard cream?" and got an answer. Apparently American Google is used to that sort of question.
This game is incredible. Soooo much better than all the modern euro trash they come out with these days with every game mechanism mish mashed together with a thin theme that makes no sense.
The lightweight Istanbul got nothing on the heavy hitters of gaming goodness Concordia and Troyes. Orleans is somewhere in between, leaning more towards the gaming goodness.
I watched to see if they lied about genuine ladies turning up or not leaving half hour later because they forgot to feed the cat. good job I didn't bet any money on it
Phew! Good to know you think Concordia is the better game. I'd hate to have to unsubscribe from this channel. :P But seriously, after that comparison at the end I'd really like to try this one out. Concordia and Istanbul are two of my favourite games, and I did enjoy Orleans (though not as much as I'd hoped).
Great, thanks... yet another game added to my need-to-play-oh-what-the-hell-just-go-ahead-and-buy-it list. Also: Hi, Matt -- good to see you in a video again! Hope your lady love is doing well!
Btw after watching so many of your videos i know Concordia is a superb game, as you have mention it tens of times :) The only reason i m not buying it, is that it has moderate in-game text and sadly the game isn't translated to my home language. This is a big problem for me as my youngest son doesn't know English yet...
I would say they're both good games mechanically, but this has a bit more "fun"--more excitement and a little more moment-to-moment action. Also, I think the theme comes through a bit better, YMMV there though as I know some people see it as fairly themeless.
Nice vid! Though... since it refers to a French city, I'm pretty sure you guys mispronounced the name of the game the whole time. But I might be wrong.
Please stop abusing your games, I nearly hyperventilated seeing you drop pieces into a drink and pouring champagne on the box. It's even worse than Dice Tower's component drop.
At first I thought that Quinns honestly cared about the pie budget, then I realised it was just an attempt to detract attention away from his wild Champagne buying. Clever.
I am late to this party by the better half of a decade, but this video and this comment are so on theme! I applaud you, gentlemen. And I miss Matt!
I laughed out loud when the ladies finally arrived. Yet another great episode.
They are WIIILD!!!
Im watching this from 2020. Amazing review. The game is still great. You still shouldn’t put custard cream in niche areas.
You missed my favourite bit! The hidden objectives, one for each player but everyone scores against them all. Trying to deduce which ones the other players have quickly enough to capitalise on them is great!
this video seems even more playful than your normal videos!
you guys are in rare form.
Form that is rare. Playful rareness.
Have you ever watched their really old review? Reminds me of those days.

I legit screamed when he poured liquid on the box cover. Like...I can't even...I just...the PAIN, man.
I actually really like the art style, it looks authentically medieval.
I love the art style. It is indeed muted, but compensated with an incredible amount of detail.
The coin strolling off the table at 7:29 quite hilarious
Hahahahahah A COIN FELL ON THE FLOOOR GAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
First video I watched from you guys, and I loved it. Gonna bing watch every else you did, now. Thanks so much!
Holy shit I'm actually from Troyes, didn't know there was a game about this city !
imho, this is the best review video you made hands down. Making me laugh from a board game review is phenomenal. 😂
I was literally tickled into smirking laughter at this review of something I have no real interest in and have no intention of buying. Well done!
Troyes is so, so, so good. One of the more rage-enducing Euros but also incredibly rewarding and reactive.
8:06 But... but... there IS room for those two other workers! They just don't get the points shown on the two slots.
I really expected “the ladies” to show up when the doorbell rang. Well played, Quinn. Love you guys.
"Shit like a fox."
Subscribed.
I spent the first half of the video mentally preparing myself for the sight of Quinns in drag
Has he ever done that? (I know Matt has at least twice.)
So excited for a new year of SUSD!!
Love the video ;PP

Oh look, I left my coat in the other youtube video.

Ha, I have a hoodie version of that Videoball shirt. Very good wardrobe choice. Tim sent me some lozenges with mine.

Review Dominant Species!
I'll put my custard creams where I like, thank you very much! :P
I've LOL so hard when they throw that niche pun 🤣🤣🤣
Gah, stop selling me on Concordia... It's out of print in the UK!
I was so very close to buying Orleans and Roll for the Galaxy for Xmas, but I stepped back from the edge.
such a great episode!
5:33 That WicDiv cover is truly mesmerizing.
Out of all the boardgames I've played, this is definitely the best.
Ahh I missed you guys. Happy 2017
I love all these games, but would take Troyes before either Concordia or Istanbul (though to be fair, I haven't played Istanbul's expansions).
Another great episode guys, keep it up!
thought there was a 2nd edition or new release coming?? anyone...anyone???
This game is incredible. Soooo much better than all the modern euro trash they come out with these days with every game mechanism mish mashed together with a thin theme that makes no sense.
Might be... the best review ever....I dunno I like this game a lot. But their review of porta nigra (a game I never desire to play) is so classic SUSD
Hilarious video! Love it
I'm American...I don't know what custard creams are...am I missing out on the custard food of my dreams?
Sh*t like a fox - I love this writing
Wonderful Video! Matt made me laugh out loud multiple times
Fun review of a terrific game!
I just got a nervous twitch with each horrible pronunciation of the word Troyes.
The lightweight Istanbul got nothing on the heavy hitters of gaming goodness Concordia and Troyes. Orleans is somewhere in between, leaning more towards the gaming goodness.
What he said...and...Troyes is actually better than Concordia...
I agree (but think they're both great)
Both great they are
Where does Voyages of Marco Polo fit in with all of the above?
Interesting
I watched to see if they lied about genuine ladies turning up
or not leaving half hour later because they forgot to feed the cat.
good job I didn't bet any money on it
You guys are hilarious!
Twaaaaa
They have a long history of mispronouncing board game names.
Vincent Graham we should put together a list of games with odd names and get them to pronounce them to a garage punk sound track.. yeah!
Trrrrruah
Phew! Good to know you think Concordia is the better game. I'd hate to have to unsubscribe from this channel. :P

suck up to the bishop comment is hilarious! I totally want this game. When will it be back in stock in USA?
I folded my laundry while watching this video and it was a good fix.
Fuck dude, not even us aussies know what a custard creme is
You guys rock! You must have a TV series done. Period.
Quinns has the ability to add dice to tea and turn it into fuel for the Improbabilty Drive.
I love your fireplace cover.
Why am I unable to find the Orleans review ?
You guys crack me up. You must vacuum up loose pieces all the time
Great, thanks... yet another game added to my need-to-play-oh-what-the-hell-just-go-ahead-and-buy-it list.
Also: Hi, Matt -- good to see you in a video again! Hope your lady love is doing well!
It's funny you mentioned the artstyle being bad, that's what drew me in the moment I saw the box that's not chilling on my bookshelf :)
So, Troyes, Orleans, Burgundy or Istanbul?
Concordia
I know :) but if you were to choose one of the above?
Otherwise I'd lean towards Troyes for more complexity or Istanbul for more accessibility.
Thanks, Istanbul then it is!
Btw after watching so many of your videos i know Concordia is a superb game, as you have mention it tens of times :) The only reason i m not buying it, is that it has moderate in-game text and sadly the game isn't translated to my home language. am American, never heard of custard creams, but they look like vanilla Oreos, so I'm going with that
Matthew Walsh They look like Moon Pies.
Your best review. Well done.
What about compared to Hansa Teutonica? Another tough comparison.
I would say they're both good games mechanically, but this has a bit more "fun"--more excitement and a little more moment-to-moment action. Also, I think the theme comes through a bit better, YMMV there though as I know some people see it as fairly themeless.
Shoutouts to Tim Rogers
another great video Thanx
So is it Orleans or Troyes?
I always say "Troys" as well and when I hear other people say TWAAAA my eyes twitch, so thank you for the review. (wrong though we are LOL).
And yet they pronounce it orlee-OHN-z...pick a lane!
Very crazy Medieval Pie Party sounds such fun.
Sick Videoball shirt
After the lockdown streams, I’m not used to seeing Matt with his hair cut!
Nice vid!
Though... since it refers to a French city, I'm pretty sure you guys mispronounced the name of the game the whole time. But I might be wrong.
Its "Truah" or "Trwa"!
AMERICANS! Without looking it up, comment below with what you think a custard cream is.
A pastry with creme? Something to do with an egg?
What happened at little bighorn
a dry beige colored cookie served with tea
wait, isn't that a... biscotti ?? (-: italian thing
It's one of those English tea biscuits methinks
Those underpants are required to play Archipelago properly
Your carpets must be so dirty from all the spillages over the years.
'Are you sure Americans know what custard creams are?'
This review sold me on buying some meat pies instead lol
That pie bit really cracked me up 😆
It's not TROYZ... You have to TRY. It's Twuaaaaaaaa. Even if it's wrong, you have to try. That's half the fun.
It's "T-wah" Get it right for when you review the expansion. ...shoot! too late 😬
Hi, Barry! I think you were the only one I'd ever heard say the name of the game.
Hieronymous Pseudonymous it comes from the wife. She is always correcting my french in front of others to make me look stupid. Not that she needs to!
2023, I honestly wish you still made board game reviews on this level of quality, humor, and enthusiasm.
Is that a Poolside shirt?!? Does SU&SD have good music taste?!?
Has shut up and sit down thought of becoming "republished mighty booch!"??!
is that pie made out of foam?
Best one yet
this... is... my favorite game. EVER!
it is a bit awkward to read that out loud.
*Googles custard creams*
If this is a German style game those should have been black leather underpants hanging up on those game board shelves. Just don't ask why.
that was the most british pie I've ever seen
Is a custard cream anything like a jammie dodger? My knowledge of English food is limited to what Doctor Who has eaten.
Actually not at all dissimilar to a jammie dodger without the jam. A non-jammie dodger, if you will.
Your apartment is too humid. See 7:27.
I love medieval pies!
Can you do Stephen Merchant impersonation?
Did anybody ever tell Quinns that the purple dice are actually in fact *not* the ladies?
It's Always Sunny in Shut Up And Sit Down
After watching this, I have almost no idea of how you play the game. (Granted, SUSD were never about rules overviews...)
Magnifico. Wait. Shit. Wrong language stop hitting me with baguettes stop
we dont know
Please stop abusing your games, I nearly hyperventilated seeing you drop pieces into a drink and pouring champagne on the box. It's even worse than Dice Tower's component drop.
I guess you don't watch Board Game Breakfast.
If that bothers you, then Inside the Box would induce a heart attack.
Hey.. so long as it's not your copy (or mine) we can laugh along right?
Hmmmm?
They're testing its durability
Lol, the component drop is the reason I dont watch that channel! xD
I love Roll for the Galaxy but gameplay has everybody with their heads down, looking at their own shit. I think this may just be the solution!
It’s truà, not trois 😉
"A lady to be rolled.."
Calm down gentlemen. That does not sound consentual?
