You missed my favourite bit! The hidden objectives, one for each player but everyone scores against them all. Trying to deduce which ones the other players have quickly enough to capitalise on them is great!

they in general seems in a better mood than usual! Certainly makes for a more entertaining and engageing review, nice to have the old nature back as it did seem a slow drop off.

the old reviews were good enough, but are weak compared to how good they've gotten.
Im watching this from 2020. Amazing review. The game is still great. You still shouldn’t put custard cream in niche areas.

I've got to disagree with them here. I like Concordia, but I would play Troyes over it any day. Equal depth with way more moment-to-moment excitement.
Little more spite in Troyes, though, so YMMV.
Troyes is so, so, so good. One of the more rage-enducing Euros but also incredibly rewarding and reactive.
Nice review! Troyes has provided me with probably one of my best gaming experiences. Such a great game with so many possibilities, and tense, thought-provoking moments. Definitely a classic.

I was so very close to buying Orleans and Roll for the Galaxy for Xmas, but I stepped back from the edge.
I love all these games, but would take Troyes before either Concordia or Istanbul (though to be fair, I haven't played Istanbul's expansions).
Gah, stop selling me on Concordia... It's out of print in the UK!

But seriously, after that comparison at the end I'd really like to try this one out. Concordia and Istanbul are two of my favourite games, and I did enjoy Orleans (though not as much as I'd hoped).

So many years after your comment i played troyes for the first time and i can say its really good
definitly a good buy if you like games like concordia or istanbul but want something a bit meaner
and it is definitly better than orleans, not even close imo

The lightweight Istanbul got nothing on the heavy hitters of gaming goodness Concordia and Troyes. Orleans is somewhere in between, leaning more towards the gaming goodness.

What about compared to Hansa Teutonica? Another tough comparison.
I would say they're both good games mechanically, but this has a bit more "fun"--more excitement and a little more moment-to-moment action. Also, I think the theme comes through a bit better, YMMV there though as I know some people see it as fairly themeless.
It's not TROYZ... You have to TRY. It's Twuaaaaaaaa. Even if it's wrong, you have to try. That's half the fun.

I love Roll for the Galaxy but gameplay has everybody with their heads down, looking at their own shit. I think this may just be the solution!

Otherwise I'd lean towards Troyes for more complexity or Istanbul for more accessibility.

Btw after watching so many of your videos i know Concordia is a superb game, as you have mention it tens of times :) The only reason i m not buying it, is that it has moderate in-game text and sadly the game isn't translated to my home language. This is a big problem for me as my youngest son doesn't know English yet...
If this is a German style game those should have been black leather underpants hanging up on those game board shelves. Just don't ask why.
