Thank goodness, this sends a strong message to all the competitors to care about the levels, when the competition is this tight, you HAVE to care about it. The whole scoring system this season ignored the levels in ice dance and just went by the GOE's, hopefully this will be impactful.
Yeah, i agree. Even though their original sum of their base values was higher than C/B, they got slammed on that lift and spin. Their GOE couldn’t save them, which is fine with me because i don’t like the way some teams are leaning so heavily on the GOE this season.
They have had issues like this for a long time, where they got sloppy and their scores and placement ended up being lower than expected. Last year they could partially blame it on the passion of the program, but this program is lacking. The details are something that Marie-France and Patrice should be working with them on. I feel like if they don't end up on podium at Worlds, they will be the first of the top teams to leave Montreal and go elsewhere. I don't know where they will go though.
I already thought Madison Chock and Evan Bates were kind people, but seeing them so shocked 'her smile so forced) is a nice reaction to her friend's distress.
Maddison Chock, one classy lady, actually felt hurt for her teammates. You can tell they are just glad to be back on the ice doing what they love. They tried to smile for the camera. Chock Bates - one classy couple.
I agree. Chock & Bates are a class act. They are all fiercely competitive which is the way it should be, but more importantly, they are great human beings and have the utmost respect for each other. Hubbell & Donahue would have done the same thing.
Despite none of the favorites being in first after their respective programs, the Women's, Men's and Pair's champions all ended up being the skaters who would have been expected to win pre-event: Riki Kihira, Shoma Uno, and Sui/Han. By contrast, Hubbell/Donahue won the short program (Rhythm Dance) but ended up dropping to 4th after the Free Dance. A real shocker.
Chock / Bates have really progressed since 2018, they've acquired a real rapidity that what missing in their sp last year, they takes risks and have a super slip !The démented " portés " are the whole Dubreuil / Lauzon style ! In 2022, the french rivals mays not be the two Russian couples !
I was definitely surprised when I saw that score and I immediately went to the protocols and saw that their stationary lift was in the base level. I saw their program again and the lift does move quite a bit. The judging was a bit harsh though. Looks like the technical controller was the “Shin Amano” of ice dance.
Maybe this will be a wake up call, they have been cocky and arrogant lately thinking they would still win with misses. So happy for Chock and bates FINALLY get what they deserve🏆 also so happy for piper and Paul they FS is beyond beautiful and just like Chock and bates are they always underscored

Why shouldn't they be self-confident? All teams should be confident in themselves or why bother competing. They were undefeated all season up until 4CC. Everyone was shocked at the scores. Totally unfair!!
The top teams were all very close so a couple small wobbles by Hubbell made the difference. C/B definitely deserved gold, though. Frankly they should’ve won at nationals. I had a feeling this would happen.
I had a feeling this would happen too. I think the judges were harsh on Madi & Zach because they've won all season long and other teams haven't won anything. In my opinion, 4CC will be the only time Gilles & Poirier will stand on the podium this season. Chock & Bates have a great chance of medaling at Worlds. The lesson learned by all teams I think is skate clean. Too many great teams out there. No one could afford a mistake anymore!
eurocamp 25 I think part of the issue was simply that there were no visible mistakes in the free by the other top teams, and H/D had the least interesting program in the final flight IMO. People are tired of Romeo & Juliet programs, too. C/B have always had more interesting material and been the more interesting team IMO but are finally being rewarded by the judges, partly because they’ve improved and partly because they’ve gone to Montreal and are now being looked at as a team with more gravitas. H/D won everything this season but didn’t really have any competition. I felt they were gifted the gold medal at nationals because they are the established top team and C/B hadn’t competed in any GP events, but it was clear to me at that point that H/D were in trouble when they had to go up against them at an international event. C/B skated last at nationals but H/D had to skate behind them at 4CC which I think resulted in errors from a loss of confidence.
She did kinda bit wobbly during the twizzle which costed her a level but I always think that Donohue is the weak link in this team. He tends to mess up the performance in the most important moments, such as a mistake he did in Olympic and now he moved during stationary lift that caused them a downgrade to base value lift.
Yohanes K Yes usually Hubbell is the more solid one but I think this time she felt the pressure of C/B nipping at their heels and having to skate after them
lawomann Yes they were always above H/D prior to H/D moving to Montreal and getting much better, but they often seemed to be underscored internationally. And I really like the Shib sibs but C/B were robbed at the 2017 nationals
Appears their Stationary Lift traveled too much to be awarded anything higher than base. So, a loss of at least 4.5 points there. Their spin being called a Level 2, cost them at least another point or 2. (had it been called Level 3 or 4)
in fact their stationary lift level 1 = 5 points minus with GOES , and the " pirouette " level 2 ( 2 points minus with GOES ) Total = 7 points minus .... the judge 1 was very very severe !!!

The outcome of this competition was shocking - not because Chock & Bates won, but because Hubbell & Donahue finished in fourth. C&B truly deserved the win and it was a substantial win over 2nd place. I understand the whole stationary lift travelling which lost them levels, but 5 points is very harsh. That damn British judge really went for the jugular. He also marked them low on the Rhythm dance which means to me he was going after them unfairly. The reaction from C&B was priceless. They are such classy people. Madi & Evan’s reactions were precious. Bless them, they’re just as shocked as the rest of us and concerned for their friends. They deserved this win. I hope they can enjoy it.
One more thing, as much as this sucks, I’m pleased it seems someone was right there to explain the low score knowing how confused and shocked they would be.
She is too fat and slow for dancing :)
Marina B There is not a single way in hell that Madison is fat. She’s tall, muscular and athletic. There’s a very big difference.
no, she eats a lot of burgers, lol :))
Your mouth is full of envy.
@@marinab5213 You probably weigh 300 lbs and are jealous of Madi who is gorgeous!! You're a very ignorant person!!!

Always drama in US competition!!!
I hope that H&D get everything done that needs to be done and get back on that podium at Worlds where they deserve to be.
normal normal c'est la place de ce couple trop mastodontes, elle surtout, pourtant elle a un jolie visage mais doit arrêter la gonflette comme lui archi gonflé ils ne sont pas danseurs et ne le seront JAMAIS même là ils ont été surnotés +++ br surtout en artistique ils n'en ont pas quelle honte ils ont des prog à mourir.. merdiques...qu'ils changent de catégories cela fait 4 ans que je le dis... ont toujours été surnotés pour des prog boum boum sans grâce, sans subtilité, morphologiquement pas appropriés pour la DANSE !! enfin pour une fois que les juges ont compris cela .. je dis bravooo...c'est pas trop tôt et arretez aussi de les surnotés en artistique, ils ne le seront jamais artiste et l'artistique ils ne connaissent pas , c'est dramatique...et ils ne sont paés les seuls hélas mille fois hélas;
That's great :) Payback for all the dancers who were pushed down for Madison :)
What do you mean by "the dancers who were pushed down for Madison"?
Marina B. You're dumb!!
@@eurocamp2541 Indeed!!!!!
They act so entitled lmfaoooo
eh i'm not fans of them but i think it's reasonable to be shocked when you've gotten high scores all season, did not appear to notice anything off during the fd (and neither did their coaches, it seems) and get pummeled in the scores. everyone else had the same reaction
lolaposen1 this wasn’t their best skate and they still expected to win gold that’s them feeling entitled
@@bishwut3008 idk how you can glean that from this video alone
lolaposen1 you can see it in the full video
They will still win a medal at Worlds. H/D are great!
I wouldn’t be so sure. I’m going Papadakis/Cizeron, Chock/Bates, and a Russian or Canadian team.
H/D are good but their FD is not interesting this season.
@@aphroditewitch Not interesting is a nice way to put it, that FD is a total snoozefest. It also lacks character, it doesn't have the sparks needed for it to be a convincing Romeo and Juliet story. I think lukewarm is a right word for it.
@@Unfiltered494 The FD doesn't work because they are past the time when it would have been believable to skate to Romeo and Juliet. It is not a natural progression from them. Last season they skated to a sultry and edgy program but this year they want play Romeo and Juliet? It doesn't work. While I appreciate that they wanted to go a different direction, they should not have picked a program better suited to a teenage team. If they wanted to do Shakespeare, Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream would have been a better fit, IMO.
@@aphroditewitch Honestly, I don't think that's the only problem. They tend to go on and on about how amazing their chemistry is, but in that FD I see none of it. They're just dancing, they're not potraying the characters, they're not telling the story, honestly they could skate to any other music and I wouldn't notice the difference.
Rigged judges always in US competition! Can you give more shock?
This was not a US competition. Four Continents is an international competition which happened to be held in the US this year.
danceskate cheer that’s what I mean, just like 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic, so many scandals
Russian and U.S are the same type. Chinese will join the Trinity in olympic 2022 soon. lol.
