      Exactly!
I didn't prime it first so that the paint would set into the wood unevenly to get the look of asphalt and because there are no magnets it helps with traction.

Got a pair of the old yellow Aurora AFX controllers in the mail today. Both in good lightly used condition. Both work. Cost me $16 total for the pair including shipping and tax. Have always liked these. Used to kind of take them for granted in a way because they were easy to come by and not as sturdy and durable as Parma controllers. Back in the 70s they were used as rental controllers at the local hobby shop. They had one of the old orange fiberglass "tub tracks" that Aurora made available mainly for commercial use. Fall and winter on Saturday mornings that place was packed. They had a larger track for 1/32 & 1/24 slot cars too. 5¢ bottles of orange, grape and strawberry Crush. I remember when they also got the first Arcade version of Atari Pole Position. It got plenty of use but didn't really take away from the slot car racing. Us kids raced HO and the larger scales were mostly adults. Some of them spent serious money on going fast. Between the cost of winning races and home video games most of the raceways faded away. Luckily the hobby stayed alive! In some ways it's better than ever!

I have to agree with you there Jeff!
I look forward to getting your hobby shop review. I check in with my shop once a week just to see what is selling. And by the sounds of things you are seeing lots of basic AW slot cars taking up space and sitting on the shelves for a long time.

You can also run 1/24 scale on that if you would have made it longer lol looks great. I built a 1)24 scale drag strip it has 53 feet that is powered and thats from the starting beam to finish beam total length is 75 feet with 23 feet of un powered track to slow down or i can power the rest of the track and run longer track length if i wanna fo top speed runs and i have add on track to make it a true scale 1/24 scale mile long track so that way we can do 1 mile 1/24 scale speed runs and fadtest car that i have built has done 52.5 mph turned down anf in 1/24 scale that is 254 mph which is 45 mph slowwer then 1:1 scale mile top speed record so its ptetty close to scale speeds on a scale mile run which makes it fun and its challenging to get these cars to even run 200 mph scale speed in 1/24 scale in a 1 mile scale track and the track 1 mile record is held by my buddy who built a car that fid 101.5 real moh and that is 497.25 scale mph and that is screaming and it took him alot of tunning and work and building different chassis and desingnjng dofferent chassis designs until he got rid of all the wheel spin and right gear ratio to the huge brushless rc car motor that is in it

Nice looking build you have going.
A ¼ mile HO scale drag strip is 20.6 feet.
I'm planning on building my 2nd HO dragstrip soon. I don't have the room for a 20.6 track this time so it will be short a few feet.
It will have a shutdown area and a return lane as well.
The first one that I built was constructed similar to yours.
I used a circular saw for the slots and copper tape for the rails.
The only difference is that I used some fishing line, then secured it at each section end and in several other spots then added the copper tape on top.
The fishing line acted like the rails so there was no need to modify the pickup shoes. It also meant no downforce from the traction magnets to slow down the cars.
Since I now own a CNC, it will be much easier to build this next one. I plan to video the build this time as well.
Here are videos of my first track.

How many power plugs did you need. One powrr plug can run how many lanes. Im want to go your route but for six lanes thanks.
