Wow what memories. I’m 69 years old. Friday nights were slot car nights.
1964; The Beatles Slot Cars, and fishing in Ohio.... and girls.
THIS IS Fantastic to see this being shown on mainstream news outlet. Should be more often. Very cool indeed. Eldon for me back in the 60's.. Loved slotcars, then still do now.
Great job Lucky Bobs. I'm been buying slot cars and sets for three years and now I'm so happy that your daughter is the first one to come in 4th place in the biggest slot car race in the US. I just wish my mom was living she was the one that got me in the hobby . Congratulations
I am an old man of 59 years old. I still vaguely remember slot cars. Revel, Cox, and other brands. My brother had a Bat Mobile that was so cool.
We had to always replace the metal contact points (whiskers) and put oil on the gears. Everyone would have their car/tool case. It was a magical time.
I remember that Batmobile 😃
@@shinrips You're still a young pup. You can't call yourself old until you hit at least 70!😅
Haha. I love it! My dad got me slot cars back in the 80s and 90s. I got my son a slot car set about 7 years ago. I think i need to look into one for myself!
Great story, love to see this news story! Lucky Bob's looks amazing! Thanks for doing this story!
Race on!
Had Tyco and AFX in the 70’s, now at 58, after several years of additions and rebuilds, we have a racetrack consisting of about 165 feet of Carrera D132/124 track on an “L” shaped table that is approximately 22’x24’. Looking forward to getting the grandkids involved. Might have to take a drive up to Lucky Bob’s 🏎🏎
I remember watching my cousins racing slot cars in Gladstone, MI during Christmas of 1967. It was 4 years old and it was magical!
Kool segment, very well done!
Wow! Now this brings me back to the ripe old age 13, when I was introduced to Slotbox Racing by a neighbor...
..Love this!🏁
Love it we need more lucky bobs....Why not start a franchise...we need it in our town...! I’m in as an investor
I did this when I was 16 years old in 70s. We fabricated our own chassis from brass tubing, plate and steel rods. Our designs were quite innovative for the area and we travelled around northern Illinois and raced a lot. It looks like they are still using angle winders that were newly introduced back then. We had the chassis set up where the front wheels were articulated so they could go over the bumps where the track joints are located. The motor was on a center plate that had the shoe at the front. Outboard plates were hinged from that to take some vibration. Probably heavier than the cars running today. Controller was similar except no pots for adjustment but a microswitch to bypass losses of the wiper and resistor.
@@velvetjones1856 you didn’t understand electronics either?…
@@LTV_inc Starting in 1969, I've spent over 50 years in the electric motor industry. It all started with slot car motors.
@ if you spent 50 years in the “motor industry” means if you started at 18 you worked until you were 68 I doubt that. I also think your nostalgic prose of your pieces of junk is hilarious.
TYCO was my first set in 1974. Toy's-r-us was a great place to buy tracks and accessories.
You should grab a set now and build a layout!
Holy moly boy does that bring GREAT memories. On my bucket list to visit. Wow.
Great watch! Does anybody remember JJ Speedway beneath the hobby shop in Cudahy? This really brought back some memories...
That track is still in the basement.
Great to see this hobby alive and well. Long live HO.
I loved my slot car sets, so much fun.
I remember my dad lifting me up onto a track to go clear car wrecks and put the cars back onto their tracks when I was a wee snotling of 4-5 years old (63 now) He used to make his car frames, used plastic car modle kits for the bodies. He passed in 2009 and while going tbroug his things I found his slot car box with a few in progress frames, hand controller, old motors, brushes, Nice to see slot cars are still alive.
Added to my playlist!
I raced slot cars in the 1960 and have very fond memories afternoons and Saturdays spent at the area tracks.
Just recently my parents moved from the house I grew up in and during packing the attic, uncovered my old hand controller and some spare car parts.
Sure felt good to press the plunger on the controller again. No sign of the cars though…
The world needs hobbies. Good wholesome stuff like this will occupy your hands and mind. I hope things like his have a resurgence and are not lost to time.
Wow ,I remember me and my friend Ross back in 1965 would go to a couple of slot car tracks in Oakland,Cal. We had our own slot cars with big slick tires, lots of fun, aloha
I hope this great sport is making a come back. I used to race 🏁 in Parma Ohio when I was a wee lad.
If I can't see the cars, the fun is gone.
Had a set in the 60's. Loved it, miss it, now 68! But I do now own a grown up sports car!
This is the type of fun that young kids should be doing today getting them to socialize with other people and get along with them and have a good time. That is what we miss in today’s society.
I grew up across the street from Bob and his family, and played with his 2 sons and 2 daughters growing up.And I remember many, many summers. We would go in their basement and play slot cars.Yeah it's pretty cool that his store is still open
i still have my H.O. scale cars from the 1960's and i still have the controller that i made for about $10 in electronics class in jr. high school! wish there was a place like this in the las vegas area. i now have brushless tenth, eighth and fifth scale cars trucks boats drones helo's and edf jets.
This was actually covered pretty well.
Lucky Bob's is great. It's just 5 minutes from my house 🏠 I am also building a D124 scale Carrera on a table in my living room 8' X 10'😊😊😊
I'd be spending all my time on those 1/24 wooden tracks before they're gone forever, forget about that plastic track-crap.
love this segment.... i caught the bug in 1974 , AFX , been at it since then, 59 now , shout out to all who made it down to 69 Church Ave in Brooklyn , NY, Buzz A Rama.... it was haven for me. I would love to see the younger generation get into this, to build something, to feel the power, to touch it, etc vs the virtual World !
Don’t have slot cars but I do have a huge collection of rc from crawlers to 200 mph ones and man are they fun
It was an adrenaline rush .. I love it. There's the king!
hi from New Zealand slot car nut here... wow keep it up!
Great memories, but most of those cars require no driving skill. Full speed beyond comprehension. The good ‘ol days were driving cars that drove slower and needed skill to prevent crashing. My memories go back to racing my COX Chaparral 1/24.
My wife and I attended the Nats in Ohio. Great fun! Rick's deep, dark pizza secret is out at last.
I had an AFX brand in late 60's. My cars never went that fast. Awesome.
hot wheels to TYCO slot cars and REVELL slot cars too.. my brother and i had a big figure 8 revell 124 cars . red cougar and a blue thunderbird. two door racing with 90 degree bank turns and a overpass . that was in the late 60s. lol
Ho scale kickass! And Aurora was the Best HO Scale cars & tracks!
Michelle Fiore got her start at WSPY FM in Yorkville, Illinois.
Really cool! HO scale is too small for my "enjoyment" really... unless it's a bunch of old t-jets ... they're fun to race!
Heck yeah! But jeeez these guys like speed!
@@RichsSlotcarRoom I’m sure they race everything but TJets on that track, unless nearly modded for Fray, would be boring
Everything is raced there, it's a great place to go.
Very cool!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍
These cars look to scale like they’re going 500mph.
Lovely , great fun
It was part of my childhood….haven’t seen a track in years. Don’t even think there is one in my fair city.
Toller Bericht 👍 Grüße aus Germany 🖖
Fantastic
Do they use digital cars too?
Riverside CA had a track my brother raced at in the sixties
We had 1/24 scale. The smaller-scale cars are so quick, like a blur.
I have all scales, got to get them all 😂
❤❤❤
What category is this?
I'm looking into getting an auto world set or an AFX set. They make them new now in China
Those cars are a blur. How can you race them? It is like they are stuck yo the track.
Great memories but the cars move way too fast to even enjoy a true race.
HO Slot Car content here! Slot Valley Racing... Get Your Heart Racing!!!
❤ Everyone needs some SVR in their life!
Men and women are wired differently, completely. Most hobbies involving anything with wheels or wings is mostly dominated by men, and most women seem to think its silly and a waste of time, but only the true women understand how much hobbies like this mean to men and what it does for the heart and mind, as well as building lifelong friendships.
Thunderjets and Eldon 1/32 racing was much more fun then these new cars that are so fast you can’t even keep up with them. Get rid of the magnets and really race them.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
he's wearing a white t-shirt that says run cars? thanks
Feels like the cars are too fast to enjoy, no?
Great
You cant even buy a used thunder jet on ebay, the slot car horders are there 24/7
remember the days when kids played with them?
men are simple , thats why we do it.
동체시력이 아니고 코스를 외웁니다 . 몇년간.. 단지 눈이 따라갈뿐
-cbs 인터뷰 번역-
Sure beats sitting in a bar drinking...or alone at home...
Those are tooooo fast...
Can someone tell me the point of slot car racing? Both cars are evenly matched and cover the same distance of track. So with that being said is the reaction time of the start the only real way to get an advantage? Other than that it seems pretty useless, like watching a hamster run on a wheel.
Where are the kids that will keep the hobby going ? Same as rc planes, all old men !
Everybody knows its controls that get too expensive
What scale? 1:24?
@@michaelbyrne8860 HO scale is 1:87.
OMG Thank God you made this entire story about how a women played with the guys. I dont think it would matter if you did not. WOW really a girl played. WOW. How brave.
Some day if you are good, maybe you will get to meet one
@@skygh lol Are you simping for the RC car girl? LOL
@@boscodooley8561 You would not be able to comprehend. We done
You are good at making points. Have a good one.
@@s4shop You are breaking glass ceilings. So stunning so Brave.
The bonding is great, but there is no heart or soul in that track or those cars. The track layout is bare, and the cars have the throttle down 100% it seems without any worry of spinning out due to large magnets on the underside. They are too fast to see much less enjoy racing.
Must have magnetic chassis to go that fast where's the skill
who's the gent with gray hair/mustache and chin hair wearing sandals?
Love Ho
I wish other cultures (ethnic diversity ), in this society would embrace this clean fun hobby ..
Vrooommmmm
What a lier you can get a complete car kit for 20 dollars..Im guessing his pricing is as inflated as his ego.
Not fun when they go so fast!
One of the best things about being a Man is that you never really grow up,My Wife does not appreciate it as much as I do
25000 laps a minute isn’t that exciting
I used to do that in the 60s. Miniature Grand Prix in Fayetteville Arkansas.
