When he died with a smile on his face, whispering "valhalla", and ragnar smiles and nods in respect...
You also hear ravens in the background.
My man was protected by the ravens
@@thetexanjedi95Odin welcomed him personally into Valhalla.
Beautiful series.. Vikings
And loki break his soul before enter valhalla
He do it for fun
I was an extra in the filming of this. The laughter we shared will stay with me forever. Off camera the older gent found it hard not to laugh at seriousness of dieing in battle, he'd rather die in bed with 2 sheldmadins.
They shot some scenes here in canada and i was in high school back then and they actually hired me as a field guy when i randomly applied, i was proving service like water, coffee to crew, and it was amazing experience for me. They were so talented people.
*dying
What an amazing experience
nice
SAME!! I WAS AN EXTRA TOO!!
Do not underestimate an old man in a proffession where men die young... He got old for a reason...
Facts
no shit. to be old back then, i feel you may want to run from this man. i feel he may know what he is doing
This corny ass comment is on every version of this clip
The crazy part is he said he watched all of his friends die in battle but was never once TOUCHED by a blade; so he must have been one bad fucking boy in his day.
You need old men in your army.
He died with honor, just like he always wanted. Man was a true warrior all the way until the end.
Loved this guy he was a beast
This show was a GEM the first few seasons
Respect this man is a true warrior!
Fav show ever. Ragnar and Bjorns deaths were the best deaths of any show Ive ever seen
This guy is going to Valhalla, the gods have spoken.
In a world where the young die frequently the old man is a survivor and should be upheld to the utmost respect. For he made it to the age he is by being the one that lived through all the carnage. His descendants should be grateful. For not for him they wouldn’t exist.
Мужество если есть,с годами не теряется.
After that beautiful speech from an elder, he just pulls the "fair enough" face. Straight up disrespectful
Either a badass or a coward…the next battle tells the truth
He was a great ragnar
Get and give him the GOLDEN ARM and he will take you along wherever whenever Grandpops 😜
HAIL tostic life long warrior
Dude was hard af
"I'm old for a reason."
You cannot refuse that
I sometimes think of this scene.
Ragnar wins his battles with trickery and intimidation. A man eager to die fighting will gladly be bait and rejoice that his sacrifice brings about the doom and despair of his foes.
His foes will be scared that even the apparent weakest of the Vikings is a formidable foe with an inhuman desire to go to the afterlife with as many opponents as he can drag with him. There is no way to defeat him if death is his goal. He gets what he wants even if he loses the fight.
If you think about it odin really messed up with Valhalla. Dude made a place only the least skilled warriors could get into. If you were too skilled you never got to enter because no one could kill you in combat
Dude kinda wanna watch this
Tostig was the O.G. Ironside
He was the first Ironside

This is before they had the black woman as their leader 😅
I feel like they didn't do any research for this show. Anyone who thinks this is what Old Norse people spoke and acted like is crazy 🤣
So what is his answer next??
please tell me
“I keep trying to die but the gods won’t let me, instead they made me a fucking legend.”
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Fire.
😂
Literally brought a tear to my eye. And when he died. Theres no pride in dying in bed
Ragnar takes him with, the old timer fought hard 😢.
He dies with a big smile on his face knowing he’s entering Valhalla!😊
Yup. He was a badass. He lived to be old for reason. And finally got to go out the way he wanted to. He was smiling and he knew he was going to see his friends again in Vahalla.
@mattjack3983
Yes,he was going to Valhalla and Ragnar also knew his son's would be out for vengeance.

Characters that lived for a couple episodes or had little screen time and nailed every second they acted... any show. Those are gold. That speech was beautiful, and dying breath Valhalla lives with me so tightly
Yeah especially that character with an eye patch he was my favorite he got little screen time but you can just tell he’s been one of the most loyal friends Ragnar had
I miss the OG roster Ragnar was with Rollo killed some of them and I’m in that season where Rollo married the French girl and never came back only after Ragnar’s death but Bjorn was there to tell him to F off🤣 as he should. No one offered not even Ragnar wanted a marriage the Dukes brought that up and Rollo volunteered himself so you can’t put this on the Danes. I never liked Rollo

This old man is no doubt a badass! Back then, a warrior did not live long. Perhaps into his 40s at best. This man should be teaching the others how to fight.
Even in peacetime I wonder if the sheer amount they drank would have allowed them to live to old age? It doesn’t seem like the kind of era you can order a lemonade.
@@ifedhimspaghettithey probably wouldn't have strong alcohol though, up to around 10% or so
@@ifedhimspaghetti Lemonade isn't exactly healthy, either..especially the lemonade of today..
Average age of the “ Middle Ages Saxons vs Vikings “ a couple century long battle for life itself +….. 23 years old a soldier lived, From Saxon chronicles, only half , that’s 50% ⚔️ fell to the 🪓, 1 out of 2 would escape - survive a single battle, to eat another feast and wait for the next call to the battle field.
I love the psychology of this scene, I think is massively overlooked. This old warrior asks to partake in the coming raids, which is no easy feat and allows only the freshest, hardest warriors to take up room on the longboats. The room laughs, but Ragnar knows this man is a true, gritty warrior. So he appeases the laughing men of his court by bringing up the fact that he is old, but in a respectful manner. And with this, the old man gives his incredible, brave tale, convincing the entire court that he’s worthy of Valhalla and to sail in the raids. Ragnar did this on purpose, so that by the end of the incident, all Vikings involved have gained respect for each other, the raiders who laughed, the old man, and King Ragnar.
Leaders know the drama must play out for men to be convinced. Therefore, control the drama and you control men.
@@audionmusic2787great insight
can't respect someone who raid to steal. they have weapons to raid unarmed and inexperienced farmers
That’s why he is Ragnar.
That old man was one of the only ones in that room without scars all over his face
The smile as he dies in England having fought well sword in hand “vallhala...”Great scenes both.
How could you ever deny a man like that lol...
You can’t
He just wanted to hear him plead his case.
If he'd asked because of glory or greed, if he asked for renown he would have said no
Not that you would, but I imagine you'd deny him by saying something like "no" 😂
Ragnar had him handing out beverages during the battle 😂
An old warrior who will teach youngsters how it's done 😅
@@marky19841000nah the way he was killing shit he was definitely in the front lines 😂😂😂
@@marky19841000omg there are no backlines. Being there is being at the front line unless your miles away like a modern day military commander telling others what to do.
If he lived to be old, he may have been helpful teaching young men how to fight like a bad ass!
An old man who outlasted all others, untouched be his enemies, and now has nothing to loose wishing to die in battle. That is the most terrifying enemy I could think of in his era. He would cut through his enemies, and if you disarmed him he would charge into your sword and smile as he pulls you closer and gouges out your eyes as he dies laughing in joy screaming “My friends, I have fought and fallen, Valhalla awaits”
If they brought Middle Ages Vikings into 2023. The leftist whites would be ravaged. We’ve become weak.
For realism Old man gets barged with a shield immediately flies of his feet and the wind knocked out of him and someone says “who sent this poor old man here. Help him up at least we have standards we don’t kill women children and old men”. 😂
@@randomlygeneratedname7171 no, old men during those times were not weak. You couldn't be sitting on your ass the whole day doing nothing.
@@randomlygeneratedname7171 old dudes maintain strength pretty well its speed and stamina that they can´t maintain.
@@randomlygeneratedname7171 Those are different type of old man. What you discribed are people who are either sick, or never worked manually. He was given that Chance and he WON HIS WAY INTO VALHALLA!!
The old man was a honorable and brave warrior who just wanted to join his friends to die in glory.
Forsaken by Valhalla cursed to live out as many years possible on earth until he dies valiantly on the battlefield.
He felt forsaken because he feared he’d die in his bed before ever having the chance to die a glorious death again. He wanted to sue d eternity with his brothers, on a mead soaked bench in Valhalla, rather than in a cold, wet pit under one of the three giant roots of Yggdrasil, in Hel.
@@shannondavis3686that’s not true. You didn’t have to be a warrior and die in battle to go to heavens equivalent. They had different holds for different people. Hel was for dishonored people and those who lacked courage and integrity. Basically a piece of shit.
@@thomaswright981Sure they had different holds but a warrior needed to die in battle for Valhalla. Old age nor sickness would send you there.
@@aawwfiisken4649Not necessarily in battle. You just have to die a brutal death/be killed by a warrior. That's why Aslaug entrusts Lagertha to kill her to ensure "safe passage" to Valhalla
The fact he was the last one from his time tells you about how great and legendary this Viking was.
He got his wish, died in the shield wall, axe in hand, with a huge smile on his face. "Finally i will see my brothers again". The guy was top shelf kick ass

Honor is such an amazing value...one that is entirely lost in modern society.
And they just smile looking at each other while he dies. He is in Valhalla with his companions
He foretold Ragnar’s future in which all his companions would die and leave him alone and foresaken
This old man is the prime example of a true viking. The old Ragnar saw weak vikings before his death.
Wild that he lived a long successful battle filled life came out LITERALLY UNHARMED, and he goes "I am forsaken!" Craved that warriors death more than anything else
Valhalla is waiting
Dude got the that Lieutenant Dan syndrome.😂
Vikings dying from old age or sickness believed to never reach Valhalla, they were placed in Hel instead and became those undead to suffer until Ragnarok when they'll be guided to oppose all living and also Divine by the Hel herself. And that afterlife wasn't desirable by them in any means possible. So that's why they wished to die in fight - it was only way for Valhalla.
This man died too soon. He should have been dragged through the seasons and died protecting Ragnar

I finished vikings almost a year ago. It is a special show. I remember every day makikg my co worker laugh because id say, "you watch vikings". Because i eanted him to watch it. This is a series id easily watch over again without memory. I loved ragnar, and bjorn, and ofcourse IVAR THE BONLESS!!! and i hated when the priest passed away. Ragnar was a fierce viking but had compassion for humanity and a amazing charisma and positive outlook. I always think of when he first comfronted the earl about "sailing west" and it reminds me that i must stand against the force that holds me back, AND TO LOOK FOWARD TO NEW LANDS! HAIL RAGNAR LOTHBROK
I tried to get my father to watch the show with me as I loved it and wanted him to enjoy it as it was right up his street, I remember telling him the details of some of the episode's and telling him how ruthless the Vikings were. He remarked that they were nothing compared to the Romans who were also great conquerers, and were much more organized as a fighting force. I miss u dad and will never forget you.
Ragnar wanted to give him peace, also wanting to test his resolve. After hearing his speech, he knew this was a man deserving of his wish. He's also everything he wants a viking to be in terms of their love for battle
Fear the old man, who lives in a world where young men die
Love these period piece movies! Just watched the "Kingdom of Heaven" from '05 yesterday. Outstanding cast. Ridley Scott the director. Epic. 💯
Absolutely LOVE THE FACT that Lord Ragnar gave the man enough respect to at least hear what he was suggesting. Many wouldn’t give him the time

Elder warrior, we young warriors respect and accept your request!!! For you are amongst us and shall be there
the most metal character in the entire show.
“It's better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.”
It's obviously fictional writing but I so understand this man's feelings, I've never been a people person, I have one or two select friendships.. And when I joined the British Army, I ended up making two great mates in training, we went to Afghanistan, they were called John K. And Gregg T. S... John was 19, Gregg was 20 and John was blown up by IED and Gregg shot in the face/neck.. Both died of their wounds.. But I'm still here and have never replaced them.. Now I've gone to Ukraine to find my way into Valhalla.
The acting performance of gustaf skarsgard was great specially in battle scene.. psycho but ruthless.. nice work..😊👍
Love Ragnar ❤️
That speech I believe has earned him a spot on the next raiding party.
He would welcome death in battle eve as he seeks it not .
It was a wasted opportunity not to have this guy, and his awesome beard, become a series regular.
It truly is a magnificent fuckoff beard 🙏🤙☺️
I agree but imagine the pity we all would feel for him still being cursed to never dying in battle with an axe or sword in his hand.
Just like the song by Amon Amarth "Across the rainbow bridge" "I've raided shores in many lands
I cannot count the men I've killed
So many friends died with sword in hand
But the warrior's death was never granted me
I dress myself in battle clothes
Alone I make the final ride
My sight is blurred by whipping snow
I seek to end my life
I want to walk across the rainbow bridge
And see my fathers in the golden hall
They beckon me to join their feast
In my dreams I hear their call"
That old timer is a true veteran
"Gift" me the chance to die with honor. I like that used the word gift instead of give. He sees this opportunity as a gift to finally earn Valhalla.
Esos ojos son pura vida!
A lifetime of skill and experience is pretty good in battle, the first thing you lose is explosiveness and athleticism, but endurance lingers and strength is the last to go, a lot of old timers are strong until they're in their 80's and could outwork most young people in their 70's, there's tons of geriatrics running marathons or doing triathalons and getting pretty good times. I'd not bat an eye having someone like that with me to balance out the inexperienced ones full of youthful energy.
Une œuvre cette série 😊
Floki is looking at him like a child listening to his uncle talking about stories
