Josh's Car Corner - Ep. 28 - Utes in America!

- This will probably be the last episode for a while, but in this one I visit one of my happiest places on Earth, Left Hand Utes in Denver, Colorado. If you've ever wanted a modern day El Camino or Nomad wagon, there is where to get one.
So strange to see these in LHD. These cars arer literally EVERYWHERE in my home town ( and all over the country)
lucky. u.s. americans dream of getting our hands on one. just need to wait 25 years
@@Trevor.OKeefewe also have crap tons of supras and skylines that you guys lust over 😂 meanwhile I get excited seeing a hellcat as we never got them, we only got camaros and mustangs never a dodge, closest we got were chrysler 300cs, dodge rams and jeep track hawks.
R.I.P Holden. 1856-2020.
As an Aussie bloke, here in Aus I reckon we should all search far and wide, from the Nullarbor to the Top End, from the West Coast to the Great Dividing Rangers, from one paddock to another and under every rock just to collect as many Holden Utes as we can and send them off to the US and start a new car company from the ground up....
good to see Americans loving the Aussie cars!!!
We wanted them but GM cherishes that damn corvette too much over here. Lol
@@SceneFreaks6661 yup
Man it’s so annoying ... anything close in horse power they don’t fw it.. I live in the motor city so i hate it with a 🔥 passion
I'm an aussie and I have a 2009 SSV ute. I'm personally happy to see Americans embracing something a little different from the usual. I have imported a 1973 F100 from USA so can appreciate the desire for something otherwise unavailable.
He needs the Ford Falcon utes too ..with the XR series of engines . 5.0 V8 supercharged OR the mighty Barra inline 6 DOHC turbo ..That'll blow your socks off ..
The reason he can't is because with the Holdens he can use American version to scavenge the parts he needs for the LHD conversion. There is no LHD Ford Falcon he can get parts from.
@@JoshsCarCorner Thanks Josh , that's a real shame ..The Ford Falcon ute as is the car is much loved in Australia ..always will be .. On the Barra engine that Ford U.S should have used from here ..,,
Watch and enjoy this ...ruclips.net/video/hJ6O1qnMmak/видео.html ..Your vids are great by the way ...
Ford in Australia are ugly as shit, that's why no other country wanted them

I’ve seen a few videos now of HSV in USA, and I am yet to see one with a Walkinshaw kit on it. And a cammed version too.
Good to see the yanks enjoying these ‘thunders from down under’
Awesome to see the love mate! We have ve wagon and vy ute. Love em!
In oz we pay 100 k for a 2013 zl1 , so it evens out

I’ve been to this guys shop. Its crazy how much craftsmanship goes into these builds
I worked at the holden factory here in Elisabeth South Australia for 30 years. We sent you these amazing cars for the better part of a decade! And begged to send you the ute, wagon and statesman! We where told over and over again that American buyers thought our cars were rubbish and didn't want anything to do with them. And now thanks too GM abandoning Australia we no longer have a car industry. No more Ford, GM Mitsubishi or Toyota plants. Thousands of lost jobs! God bless America.
If you were working there in March of 2006 or February of 2005, then you may have built my GTO or my Crewman. In either case, let me thank you for what you built.
@johnansell2707 These are some of my favorite cars. As an American, I’m disappointed in the fact that GM made the decision to never consider shipping utes here after Pontiac went bust. Maybe if they shipped Maloo’s, Utes, Commodores, or the Crewman here, they could have kept Holden in business. It was and is still top of my list for best anything with a v8. Thank you for building these great cars.
Good job Josh. I don't care for provincialism or parochialism from either side of this discussion. I just see gits who do not look at the big picture . Fact is we (Aussies) had an incredibly resourceful manufacturing base which built thousands of different model of cars over the best part of a century. Teems of brands from England, Europe, Asia and USA have been manufactured or assembled in Australia. I also acknowledge the fact that without huge investment from all of the companies offshore we never would have had this. So thank God for parent companies like Ford, GM, Chrysler and so many others. Because of this the Australian manufacturers could create some models which the rest of the world could only drool over. It is flattering to most Aussies who are into cars that you guys like our cars. We have on the main liked the American cars too. Hundreds of thousands of American cars have found their way to Australia such is the interest in your stuff. It is a great achievement that GM-H could , in the final decades of manufacture could get so many Commodore based cars off into the export market. I for one felt proud when last year while in Fairbanks, Alaska, a brand new Chev "Holden" SS sedan pulled up at a set of lights next to us. That is the furthest North I have seen a Holden. For the information of others on this page (not you Josh, as I feel yo have a good handle on the big picture) Holden never "Came to USA" (as Ryverforlyfe stated). General Motors as owner of Holdens commissioned Holden to build Pontiac GTOs, G8s, Chev SSs, Caprice police cars etc. in Australia and export them to the USA. This was great for our local manufacturing industry as in helped it last longer than it would have without it. The benefit for our American mates is that some of you got our fantastic Aussie made GM-H cars which were a blend of American, other countries and locally made parts. What I think is something to be proud of for us Aussies is that the badge which created the term "MUSCLECAR" was "GTO" and that the final GTO generation were rebadged (and engineered for USA) Holden Monaros and shipped to the USA.... So we made the last Pontiac musclecars. ...Looks like we have made the last rear drive V8 Chev SSs too.Cheers. Nick.
HSV are so collectable and many are worth more now than when you.. My favourite is the Holden VX clubsport ...💜
Got to love a Maloo, I have one (2006 VZ) here in the UK and love it 😀
Your Pontiac cop cars are the Holden Statesman made here in OZ, Also that GTO silver coupe is a Holden Monaro built here too.i have for sale here in Australia a VZ SSZ Crewman Ute V8 6 speed manual 10k usd
Pontiacs did steal the production of the Monaro, maybe if Holden started making Monaro's again when Pontiac folded, they might still be around & why didn't they strengthen the chassies in the, GRM 427, the car that caught America's attention
Pretty cool as an Aussie to see these cars appreciated overseas.
6 years on, great Aussie presentation in the USA. Good work Josh.
i have a vu with 140,000kms on it. its 15yrs old and i just cant imagine how much better the newer utes are to drive. cool to see them over there. nice video man, might watch from episode 1 now
thats pretty low kms should drive like its new
Superbogan *should. Previous owner thought it would be better lowered and with big wheels. when i got it the guards hadnt even been rolled. anyway, it drives fine. Its just a spicy little car. I mean to say "I have never driven a new ute so i have no idea if they handle better". There we go.
They handel pretty good but i like the feeling of the older steering haha
what is this guy wearing
Clothes.
Looks like the same kinda clothes Doug Demuro wears, but he can’t pull it off.
The difference between 2k subscribers and 200k.
@John Smith this Halloween I'm going as a Dad. Scary as hell.
He is going to the beach to play golf.
If you are putting a new front clip on the surely you're going to use the HSV front end. 1000% better than any other version. And VE series 1 HSV Clubsport wagon with 317 LS3 is where it is at!!! That black one is lovely.
That green Ute you called an SS is not an SS it is a HSV Maloo 2011 VE just doesn’t have the Maloo badging for some reason
How can you swap a firewall over and say you haven't affected the structure.. You would have to be mighty skillful welding these as Holdens were made from sheets of steel that were two different gauges in the one sheet.
we do the exact same over here, i've seen a few places in melbourne that turn the chevy and gm trucks into right hand drive vehicles
Yea HSV does it officially
Gorgeus, gorgeus Maloo! They should have used those when the Camaro was"taking a nap" between 2002-2010. We probably would have an ElCamino instead of the Camaro! Maybe even with it!
Do they accept souls as down payments? LOVE Left Hand Utes, always been drooling over them.
just heads up the "GTO" platform is a rebadged Holden Monaro and the Holden Monaro is a 2-door version of the Holden Commodore and that older ute is based off the Commodore platform.
Josh as an Australian myself I have to say your taste in cars are amazing myself personally would love to own a VL Walkinshaw not a ute but definitely a classic
I wish Americans and especially American Ford fans had got hold of the real deal Ford Barra turbo's ...That said there is a growing bunch of fans now importing this amazing engine from Australia ..Absolute legendary powerplant ..Australia also built the 5.0 V8 and supercharged it and made a great engine even better...love your videos and your passion for GM Holden.. Sadly now Holden no longer exists ...All finished as of a few months ago , never thought that'd ever happen .
2:46 Now that is a fantastic interior....
Holden Australia really missed out with the US market, it could've possibly save Holden, now their gone, no longer manufacturing cars in Australia
hey mate, great to see these aussie cars putting a smile on your face
Really enjoyed this matey! Glad you guys appreciate these beasts as much as we do down under. ;)
I live in Melbourne Australia & those HSV sport’s wagons are very rare here the Sedans & Ute are more common. A lot of people didn’t like the sports wagon design when it came out compared to the previous VZ station wagons had more room in the back but I like the look of the sport’s wagons
The funny thing is that black maloo had a LS3 from the start in it, the slightly newer version has the LSA supercharged v8
Just saw a Ute today. Did not expect that and it felt good to see. I was planning on an El Comino, but will get the Holden Ute before the end of 2019
Dr. Grant where do you live that it’s still 2018?
@@viking3487 Thanks for the heads up.
Dr. Grant lmao np
As far as the cars harnesses, well for a start the VE range or even the VYto VZ range of utes were exported to the UAE which is to say they are already left hand drive cars which means not much to change and also the VE range was exported to the US and the VE uste is the only car which was not exported, so buying a VE or 2006 onwards is so easy its not funny because Holden already made the left hand dash wiring looms etc, just a matter of buying a ute with the same Oe manufacturing year and swap out the items required. :) still great to see The australian Invention UTE in the US. :)
ford driver walks home. holdens are holden together
Brian Richards MTB F6 smoke all of them
Us V8 Ford fans are not fussed by LS powered Holdens. Can even beat the Ford 6's most of the time.
Wow guys didn't know there was much stuff that had to be changed from Australia to US love the US from Perth western Australia
Great clip
I live in state Victoria in Australia, Holdens and Chevy Holdens are everywhere, The Pickup converted Utes are my favourite:), a lot of people in Melbourne and near by countys seem to convert the pick up Utes with tray 'boots' , I prefer the open tray.I've seen a few v8 supercar 'Ute Truck' sires. The v8 supercar pickup Ute trucks are usually Holdens, and ford Falcons. There a lot of fun, my family used to own a 1970s Fprd falcon XB Pickup Ute, :),Also the VPD use Holdern Canopy converted Ute trucks :)
Oh no, our utes are going overseas 😢.
Glad you like them though.
I miss Holden
HSV maloo the best ute ever built in Australia but now you buy them chop them and rebuild them just remember its not original anymore, why do think holden never wanted to send them to you
I just got to chuckle at the HSV with the "I just want one" sticker...
Well fuck another great STUMBLE!! Josh's Car Corner??? Excellent video mate. Love the knowledge base, you really know your stuff, that green ute was a VE series HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) Maloo probably 20011?
My first car was a 1978 HZ 1Tonner Ute. 253 4.2 ltr V8 4 speed manual.
Great work Josh on this UTE story. LOve it!!
How I stumbled on this video???? Looking for Holden Commodore SSV Redline engine upgrade info.
I thought only older 70+ guys wore those all leather white runners.....Fucking serious, here in Australia it's the white New Balance all leather runners.....they must have a pensioner rebate on them??
I love my Holden hsv maloo in voodoo blue. It’s a beast.
Fantastic video presentation
he needs to get a coupe 4 awd GTO ya buddy of course in silver haha because silver GTO is the best color
Good on ya mate,in oz we got the 4 door ute and they were v8 and 4 wheel drive but the older version vy vz pick n up over here for 5 to ten grand
Australian
I own and old ford falcon ute (1994) XG series, great car, never stops. Wont expect any to ever get to america though
Randy had one when I was at his shop, newer one. Don't know what he plans to do with it.
+OldskoolGP he probably had a BA or BF. He will find it very hard to get registered over there. Platform is only found in AU or NZ. Any falcon XA until now would be hard to get registered in america.
+OldskoolGP nice monaro too mate. Weird seeing them without the holden front end.
There’s a quite a few XD to XF utes over here
I want one so bad, it would look great beside the goat.
+Rocketboyjerry What goat?
I was referring to my 2005 Pontiac GTO aka the goat. Goat is the nickname of the classic and newage GTOs.
Fair enough, for a moment I thought you wanted to get a goat with your ute to complete the farmer look haha
TacticalBBQSauce he's talking about the Holden monaro over here in America it's a GTO but everyone calls them goats
its not a gto its a commodore
Well. Now I can move to America. It's unfortunate they have to take out the drive line though. It sounds almost like the what we have to do to get a full size pickup over here.
I've never heard an American use the term "ute".
Cool
UAE never got the utes - I lived there for 6 years and worked in the auto industry
Mate if you wanted to you could put the VF front end on the VE dose this guy sale all the right hand drive components? Could you imagine how much they are going to cost now that Holden are no longer making anything
Gourgus cars .i have a 2014 ss an it's bad ass .they are wonderful cars
Good luck getting one now. Took me months to find my vy ss ute. Sad my last one got written off by a truck
Have you seen Episode 76? :D
They could also get the Brazilian Front End for the GTO/Ute.
I would sell my wife.. her soul and the EGG she drives.. for 1 of these.
Id love a Maloo, a 4dr UTE or a Wagon...
Oh god I would...
Come to Aus mate. Then it won’t cost you an arm and a leg, just watch out for bushfires snakes spiders and sharks
And all because of American import laws to protect local shitty manufacturers. Ironically, American cars are exported to Australia with no restrictions (free trade).
amazing video dude! i want one extremely bad!
Im jealous :( i dont want americans having our holdens :( it really annoys me when america claims it as there own design and make. And i wish holdens were never part of GM
Who's claiming that the cars are American? I spend the entirety of my show informing people that the GTO, G8,Caprice PPV, and SS that we receive are based on Holdens that come from Australia. I love that the cars come from Australia. They are much better than anything GM of America could come up with. I love and appreciate my car as much as any Australian would, and many of my subscribers feel the same way about their cars.
And as far as wishing Americans never got them, are you going to make the same wish about the British, or the Canadians, or the peoples of Arabia? Hate to break it to you, but the cars were sold other places too, and I'm glad for that. I'm glad so many people in the world have gotten the opportunity to enjoy such amazing cars.
i am aware that you are explaining on how these cars are from australia, and how much better they are. Also aware that other countries have them too. arabia treats them like trash though. I love how you have explained these cars really well. When would you ever see american give credit to australia about these holden made vehicles ?
im claiming the americans who think these amazing cars are from america. there is a tonne on facebook. also on this video ruclips.net/video/Z_htTUmGQW0/видео.html&ab_channel=TheHoonigans.
The Combat Wombat And this is why I do my show. I hope to combat people's ignorance by providing knowledge. I can't inform everyone, but I can try.
thank you
What pisses me off is aussies getting on their high horse and assuming americans dont know anything about holden
This josh guy obviously knows and loves holdens and you still post a negative comment
Holden would not exist without gm and america has a great car culture
I think its great that other nations get the opportunity to know and experience a slice of aussie car culture
I want a wagon sooooo bad!
Love the Caprice ute.
There's a "reverse engineering" of Mustangs in Australia. Some of you may have heard of the Barra 4 litre turbo that was in the XR6 Falcons, whether sedan or ute. This engine will lay waste to V8s a lot bigger than it, and the 4 cylinder and V6 options in the Mustang just look embarrassing beside it. Some have taken out the Coyote V8, put in this crazy intercooled inline 6, and noticed a severe difference in acceleration.
I respect the Barra motor. Wish we could have gotten it over here in something.
There's another 6 cylinder you can look up, the 250 truck engine. The F-series trucks came to Australia until the mid-80s. Early versions did have the Canadian 300 cubic inch 6, but it was a problem in Australia due to being heavy on fuel. Australian V8s had more than a few modifications to make them more powerful and more fuel efficient, but Ford Australia decided to build their own 6 for the F-series. Enter the Falcon 250 cross flow. They designed a high compression head for them. This engine has torque like a diesel, but was very fuel efficient compared to the imported 6 cylinder, and lighter due to a smaller block and an alloy head. Externally they can only be identified by the bolt pattern on the manifolds. If you want an early 80s Bronco that puts out torque like a diesel, but can also match it for fuel efficiency, this one will do it. A roadhouse I worked at years ago had an '83 F-350 as the resident tow truck. Solid reliable engine with a lot of pulling power
They don't have to take them out I know people that have imported Australian cars they don't do all that stuff and the road legal and registered
I am in Australia does he ship them here or should I just get one from literally anywhere here
yes your're right Mike... they're like assholes here... everybody has one...
Ford also made utes here.
Never understood why Australians and New Zealanders use KW instead of HP.
Michael Davis It’s because we use the metric system instead of imperial.
@@kombirat I get that. But what does a KW even translate to? Last time I heard of Kilowatts were for the election power rating of Toasters and Blenders. xD
Michael Davis One watt is the amount of energy to make a litre a degree warmer or some shit, so a thousand of those is a kilowatt. It’s a bit weird for cars to think of it like that but it’s just a measurement of energy. A newtonmetre is one newton of force pushing at the end of a metre long lever, similar to how lbs feet is defined. I probably overlooked this reply but oh well
I've never understood why Americans are the only ones who don't use metrics.
I want one so bad dude!
These vehicles were actually made in Australia in LHD for the Saudi market. Why were they not sent to the states ? Ask the Auto Workers Union !!!
I'll take the black ute and the wagon with ls9's thanks. That's it I just win.
great video mate!
some of the info wasn't quite right but video is still awesome.
the middle east only got Monaro and Commodore sedan. outside of Aus and NZ, only the UK got the Ute with the E1, E3 and Gen-F Maloo's.
The 2012 Ute is a VE Series II. VF came out mid 2013 in Aus.
Be sure to check out my facebook page and the photo albums because I have a lot of stuff regarding VF II due later this year.

The 2012 is still basically a g8gt ot gxp. The ss body didnt come to 13/14
Damn should see the Vz vy adventra awd wagon or 4 door ute with the 5.7 ltr geniii ls or 6.0ltr in them also comes in hsv models the avalanche
Pitty they don't do the flacon utes and xr falons as well 🙂
There's no way to convert them to LHD. No equivalent car in the US to source parts from.
Have they ever been tempted by the four door crewcab utes?
There's one in Phoenix with a Pontiac GTO front end and dash. Last I heard it was for sale.
nobody here was temped by them... not sure why anyone in USA would be....
Here's a lovely example Josh of one of the last XR Sprints (Ford Falcon ) Massive performance via the big turbo 6 at a fraction of the cost of most ..Beautiful car ..I have the previous model ..Fantastic car to drive anywhere ..Ford USA should have brought them back to the States ..Imagine the turbo 6 Barra in a Mustang ..Would have been epic ..ruclips.net/video/6Lu5V4olhL0/видео.html...and you might enjoy this comparison from a few years back between the Ford and Holden in the more luxury market of the day ..ruclips.net/video/RSEnIrrw9zI/видео.html Thanks again for your fun vids and your passion for Aussie cars..
How about Wagon?
and they also designed the car to left hand or right hand drive, you can get the parts of shelf, what the hard part of doing this,
If your man there wants to make some real coin he needs to try import ford falcons or fpv's with the Barra engine. Americans are screaming for them! 👌
These are everywhere in Australia eventually when I do a trip over there I'm going to temp import a ford bf typhoon and travel the states
When you do that, let me know! I would totally meet up with you when you're in Arizona and film the car for an episode. Keep in mind that in most US states the best fuel quality you can get is 91 octane. So if you bring over a typhoon, make sure it's not the top spec turbo engine because it won't run very good over here.
+caveman Versace poor XA dosnt get the mention. Next door neighbour used to have an XC cobra unrestored. Wonder if he got it running yet?
Wait, you don't have 98 octane??
How come the engines cannot be shipped with the vehicles to the US?
They are configured differently, they have different emissions standards in Australia. They are over 99% identical, but the less than 1% that is not the US government deems to be unsatisfactory for importation.
6:20 dont you mean the gto is based off the vy commodore chasis
Nope. The GTO was based off the VX (04) and VZ (05-06) Monaro platforms. They VY I believe was used for the Ute and Commodore.
@@JoshsCarCorner My VX is 2001, by 2004 Australia had the VY range
I got me a VS Holden ute i paid $1,000 for and done a fair bit of work ona`, you can have it for a million bucks........no offers! You`re right not for sale.........over! Pete 379.
So.... Does he finance??
Hopefully, the final Ford Falcon hits 25 years, then Americans can have Ford Falcons!
In 25 years they will be collectors items and cars that sit in garages because technology will have pushed combustion engines into an obsolete state. I love Falcons too but since our local markets have closed doors our cars will become nothing other then a nostalgic thought of the past. 25years before was EB's and VP's yet how many Australians are even interested in buying one other then enthusiast's? Im fairly sure hybrid and alternative powerplants will be an automotive standard by 2030
Surely you have seen Freddy Falcons in old American movies
We have holdens in New Zealand i had a VY2 R8 Maloo
The wagons tho
My gf has a ute she wants to sell here in australia, wasnt offered much as trade and is in great nick for an early 2000s model gold colour v8
You like this car ? Then look up VF R8 maloo last model made in Australia
If l ever become financially secure l'm going to get me one!😝😝😝
Josh when are we going to see new videos?
Can't believe how much $$$ our HSV's an Holdens are making over there.
I’m debating if I should get 2019 bullitt mustang or LHD Ute after I sell my ecoboost mustang
dumb question, but what make/model would the UTEs be registered as here in the US once they're complete?
cineman73 Most of the cars are registered as Holdens when they are done. The ones that aren't I believe are registered as kit cars.
OldskoolGP that's pretty interesting. thanks for the reply!
The black maloo Ute would've already had a 6.2 litre engine in it.
It would have, but it had to be removed before transport.
Id drive that 😂
For ones sold in the middle East why not just import from there? They are LHD. Also some versions were sold in other LHD markets too (eg Brazil).
The owners of those UAE cars probably are taking good care of them, since I've never seen them on videos of wrecked or abandoned cars in Dubai or Abu Dhabi on YB... but who knows?
@@kristoffermangila They went to quite a few countries in the middle East. I think Saudi was the biggest single one but don't quote me on it. I would imagine the phyiscal environment would be good for avoiding rust but bad for things made of rubber etc.
