When I decided to reduce my stash, I lucked up. We are a small community and we have a free paper called The Shopper. Someone put a want ad for any left over yarn, I contacted her immediately. Meet up with her that afternoon, took her 7 black garbage bags of yarn, she cried (literally). I asked her what she did with it, I live in southern Florida, she came here during the winter, she made winter hats while she was here and when she would go home, she donated them to homeless shelters. What a great cause.

I just wanted to say thank you, as a fellow crocheter, and someone who ended up in a homeless shelter while pregnant. I literally cried when friends of my family donated yarn for me to crochet baby items for my little one. It was about all I had, and it gave me hope. Now when I get yarn donations, I crochet and donate back to the shelter that saved our lives. You never know how much a little yarn can impact someone.

@@sedalien7937I’m so sorry you ended up there but am happy you did as that means you were getting help. That’s big and I’m proud of you. The fact that you now crochet and give back to the shelter that helped you is what it’s all about! That just warms my heart. I’m the same way. I had to get food from the church near me a couple times. I didn’t have any money but I had yarn and craft shit and some love and creativity. I made the ladies each up a little thank you gift bag and omg they all cried happy tears. I leave crocheted fidget buddies with stickers and motivational cards and a you found me keep me note in them and leave a couple at the pharmacy I go to every month (there’s a lot of methadone patients and people that need love) now if everyone acted this way, what a wonderful place it would be ❤ any small act of kindness can go such a long way, it’s pretty amazing. I hope you’re doing well now ❤

A stash buster that I love is the sunburst granny square. You can use up to 4 colours per square, and it's a quick, simple design. I like it because I can make some whenever I have random yarn lying around and, once I have enough squares, turn them into whatever I feel like.

When I first started out, I'd buy a skein here and there as inspiration (I'm sure you understand), but I had no idea what quantities I'd need for actual projects until a few years in. I just found your channel and just had to subscribe. My husband and I just bought our dream home in the Highlands of Scotland, to retire to in a couple years. I have been given cart blanche to decorate as ai see fit. And I am so excited to also finally have a craft room all to myself. I am a huge fan of the boho look, probably also having grown up in the US, in the 80’s. I love the “hippy” look, being echo friendly and not spending a fortune on things to look like everyone else. I have spent the last few months crocheting coasters, table runners, placemats, napkin rings, pot holders, oven mitts, hot pads, cushion covers, throws/afghans, baskets and plant pot covers, and even curtain toppers. I have made macramé wall hangings, more fancy napkin rings and matching placemats, plant hangers and even a hanging “swing” with a big round cushion for my elderly cat to hang in the south facing window to soak up all the sunshine. I have knit a dog bed with faux fur (never again lol, it did turn out beautiful, but it was a nightmare to work with) over a beanbag dog bed. She loves it thank goodness. I have made tree ornaments in crochet, knit, and macramé but am now working on metal work, clay, and wooden ornaments as we plan on our tree being mostly hand made ornaments, with a few extra special ornaments we collected through the years that have special meaning for us. I started the ornaments to use up scrap balls of yarn from other projects.
I love the hand towel pattern link you shared. While I have also made a ton of dishwashing cloths and scrubbies, I never thought of crocheting towels! I have made a few towel toppers for holding my shop bought hand towels and even made my own rustic wooden buttons from the branches of trees from our current home that had to be cut down, to put on the towel topper to keep it secured to the oven bar. I am so excited and cannot wait to begin the towels. I love that the designer used hdc and that they have such texture. The drape is just beautiful and it makes me want to use it.
The face scrubbies are wonderful things. I have been making them for a few years and either make a little mesh bag to use for washing them in the machine so they do not get lost or I make little “baskets” to keep them in. They make great gifts for teenage girls and ladies and if you sell at craft fairs, they fly off the table as they make great stocking stuffers, teachers “thank you” gifts, etc. I have even used small wide mouth jars as containers to hold the scrubbies in, that I have made a crochet cover over the jar, glued a big clay bead in a coordinating color to glue onto the painted lid and made the scrubbies slightly smaller than the jar opening to make them easy to get in and out of the jar.
The bags are absolutely adorable. I have been making mosaic crochet coin bags, credit card/cash bags and even much bigger ones for carrying a current project with me to crochet while waiting at the Dr’s, school, dentist, wherever I have at least 5 minutes to do a few stitches. They all zip shut to keep everything clean and tidy and if working in the round there are no ends to worry about other than starting and finishing ends. I have become addicted to mosaic crochet as I can use up lots of small leftover bits as well as other skeins. I am a vegan so tend to work with cotton or acrylic depending on what I am making and the various mosaic bags work great with either. But I love that zipped bobble bag and that is on my must make list now too. I discovered an Icelandic Crocheter here on YT, Tinna (I forget her surname, but it starts with a T) and she was making some small mosaic bags with zippers and showed an easy way to crochet from the zipper down, as like you, I had nightmares about sewing zippers lol.
I cannot wait to set started, oh and that pot holder with the circles of colors, that is the project I will begin tomorrow for the new house. The colors in the kitchen are white, red, orange and yellow…and having been making the table runners and things I have leftover bits of cotton in those colors along with a stash of white cotton. I might even make a few dish cloths with the dots of colors too to go with the pot holders.
Thank you for the videos and I cannot wait to get started and to see what else you share. 💚

On the topic of dish cloths, I made some but a little smaller when my daughter was a baby and starting on solid foods. I made 12 in the 6 diffent colors of the rainbow and I made matching bibs. I then at meal time I would match the bib and cloth to the color of her food so that stains wouldn't be too visible (I mean we all know hard blue berry stains are to wash out).
When my cousin was expecting her first I made a set for her. She wasn't super thrilled at first, but politely accepted the gift. Half a year later later she called "and the hand cloths and bibs you made, oh my god they are amazing, they don't stain that badly and baby girl always look squicky clean when and after eating. The rest of my mommy group want a set too now."
It has become one of my go-to gifts for baby showers.
I also made a small basket full of washing cloths for my mother upon her request. She loved them. However, funny turn of events, when the pandemic hit and we all had to limit who we let into our homes and how many, and had to wash our hands all the time. The 30 washing cloths I had made got promoted to single use hand towels. My mom put the basket next to the sink, and a dedicated laundry basket on the floor next to it. It was so easy to just grap a clean little mini towel, dry hands and drop it in the laundry. When the little laundry basket was full my mom could just pick it up dump it into the washer without having to touch the dirty towels. It was hygienic, practical, looked good and it environmentally friendly because of the amount of "dried hands pr. laundry batch".

I love watching all of those incredible ideas, though I definitely know how I'm busting my yarn stash this year.
My oldest cousin is pregnant, our grandma's first great grandchild and my uncle's first grandchild, and I'm going ham with making lots of plushies (add that the ones my cousin, who also crochets, is making for her baby). I've finished a teddy bear, I'm currently making a sheep with some chenille yarn I bought for the project (in my defense, I've been wanting to try this yarn for ages and they now sell it here) and I have plans to make a Mushu plushie next since the baby's Chinese zodiac is dragon; so of course I need to make her the best dragon.
I've crocheted more on the past few weeks than the entirety of 2023... Let's just say that's going to be one spoiled baby.

I'm currently using up scraps and stash making a custom all-in-one knitting, crochet, notions tool kit and a custom stash tote. I just couldn't find anything purchasable that would fill all my needs in one simple item so i made it a stash buster project. I'm doing it fully custom to fit my interchangables, cr hooks, and main notions all in one double zip book. Same thing with the tote. I love the tall, sinch-top totes I've found on Amazon, but wanted some different configuration stuff re pockets etc, so i opted to save money AND use up stash by just making one myself.

Love this video! So many great ideas, I especially love the teabagbookmarks! It has given me inspiration for other bookmarks as wel, now I see that every little amigurumi can be turned in to a bookmark.
Last year I used most of my scraps/yarns that I didn't know what to do with for hats to donate. It was great, because I don't like wearing hats, I like headbands. But I do enjoy making hats, so this was a great way to make al those lovely hat patterns that where overflowing my pinterest page😂

Hi Elise….just love all these great stash buster ideas…..especially the beautiful pouch with zipper….must try that one. And when u said no sewing machine needed for the zipper…..that was even more exciting. I use to sew many many years ago….had no problem with zippers then but now would be a diff story.😂😂
Love the kitchen towels and the diff stitches used for the dish cloths…& the chapstick holder case. Definitely will be checking these patterns out.

Don't feel bad a out loosing the remote. I hot glued a binder clip to my dvd remote. Then I tied two long strand of yarn to hang it on my shelf near the tv lol. I did that first to my tv remote. I haven't had any more problems loosing my remotes. I love the spotty rainbow pot holder. My mom would love it.
