Never known a horse to be travelling as smooth as that with 400 mtrs to run in an Arc , the ride L.Morris gave this mare should be a blueprint for any prospective Jockey, he roused the horse along leaving the stalls so he could get the position he wanted, then he dropped his hands and allowed the mare to find her own rhythm, turning for home he must have felt he was dreaming at how well the mare was travelling and he kicked at the right time also as a speedier horse might have picked her up in an outright sprint, but when he kicked the mare secured enough of a lead to retain the advantage to the line, massive congratulations to Sir Mark Prescott who doesn't have the same ammunition as he has in the past, also to the owner and the mares lass.

It's all irrelevant as we'll never see him even attempt it, but I'm convinced that if he was to do so, he would have no issues landing multiple more G1s. He's just a relentless galloper, settles easily, almost races a touch lazily early doors. If he had landed a better draw and been slightly nearer turning in, there's no doubt in my mind that he wins a 2nd Arc.

As the old saying goes “if my granny had bxxxs she’d be my granddad “. Who can tell what would have happened in better conditions? Would Frankie’s horse have been as effective even with a better draw? Would Alpanista have skipped away even further and maintained that lead? We shall never know; only that today she was the best, but that is what makes racing so wonderful, the unknown for “next time”. I admit to be overjoyed that she won, a great result.

@@anthonya7169 Certainly it was her day in which the conditions maximize her brave and versatile feature. Through my decades assessing racing, I just wanted to point out different horses have different pros and cons even for a champion and so different pacing, racecourse, conditions and positioning would make the result different. That's racing. I Just love to see racing star with great turn of foot which is rare even for a decent Gp one horses on a turf mile and half. The last one that I can remember is already Peintre Celebre his acceleration is pure S grade.

Alpinista is a horse that has been shining for a while and many continued to see her as a lump of coal without realizing the mare is actually a diamond under the radar. 10 wins overall, 7 consecutive wins at high level, still doubted, but then at the highest level to date, makes it 8 consecutive wins through the mud.
Surprised never been odds on and probably one of the most value odds for those know her and backed her.

Four Group 1's, 2 Group 2's and numerous places were a brilliant advertisement for the trainers and stable staff involved. One question: The Japanese consistently bring their best horses to the Arc and yet regularly ride races that are completely unsuited to the conditions. Love this horse, been following it for along time, and pleased as punch it won, not just for my own pocket, but for the owner, the trainer down to the girl who looks after the horse - Alpinista cemented her name in horse racing history on the back of her 6 group one;s in a row wins, culminating in the Qatat Prix de l'Ark de Triomphe, but just hope this is not her swansong, she's at the top of her game, and possibly go on to emulate Enable in the breeders Cup double.
