    Its the dawn of electronic music...But nobody there knows it...Some leave immediately,,,some feel it right away, while others struggle to understand the new sounds with open ears and minds. Its amazing to watch the primordial ooze of future music evolve. Nobody knew what a waveform was...but there they are embracing it. This is an amazing film.

    My little hometown Soest was in the early 70ies every november the hotspot for new electronic sounds during Allerheiligenkirmes. I was too young that time, but it's a pity that this innovated, progressive music spot finished at the end of the 1970ies because of the costs.

    I’ve recognised for years that the experience of unadulterated electronic music (or #techno) sends wild shivers down my spine and fits my timbre. It was also the favourite of my big father, and as a kid we would blitz through the English countryside with Yellow at full volume in his little sports car. I eventually moved to Berlin to immerse myself in the exotic beats of the time, improvised, twiddled and performed in repurposed bunkers and factories etc, but never stopped to consider the origins of this form. This footage arguably captures a turning point in those origins.
    ·
    I think my subsequent love for Germany also has its roots here. A generation embracing pragmatic instincts, new modes of creation, technology, and new forms of expression, in a country learning to rebuild and understand its new self and its identity against the backdrop of a traumatic past. However, creativity is a great healer, a universal tool in bringing the commonalities of diverse mindsets and cultures together, making things happen, and overcoming trauma. This for me is an exquisite example of ‘pure creation’, thankfully saved from the ‘dust of the museum of music’, and a key piece of the puzzle I didn’t know I would find. xR

    A lot of these bands were around a lot earlier than we think. There are also Devo videos that are nearly as old. Confused audiences are funny and universal. Big love to the sharing people.

    • @McLarenMercedes
      @McLarenMercedes Год назад +1

      To my knowledge Devo first played at Kent State University campus in 1972 as "Sextet Devo". From 1974 to 1977 they began composing and performing their early material in local bars and such. But unlike the "confused audience" here the people at said bars which Devo played at pretty much showed their disapproval by throwing empty beer bottles at them and in one recorded 1977 gig they shocked the very puritan audience with their lyrics about sexual practices and the owner of the place pulled the plug on them and told them to "get the h*ll out of here!".
      My point is that there are *different kinds* of "confused audiences"
      Those who take it rather well and who react to it politely.
      Those who are openly hostile to anything which challenges their myopic minds.
      So no, I disagree to your notion that "confused audiences are funny and universal".

    For context, this show took place almost one hundred years after the construction of the first synthesizer, the "Musical Telegraph". Kraftwerk did not invent electronic music, but stood on the shoulders of four generations of musicians, composers, and engineers who created the genre and introduced it to an audience. When Kraftwerk began, they could already go to the store and buy a Minimoog. Also, there is a fair chance that the parents of the people in the crowd already attended electronic concerts as youngsters, so they might not have been as mindblown as we like to think they were.

    I was nine years old when this happened, at a time there wasn't a single German radio station on the air playing more than one hour of rock music per day! You had to listen to the Allied army stations wanna hear the good stuff. Looking back it feels strange and sad at the sa time, realizing how old I have become - and, probably a lot of these people in the vid might already have passed away. Listening to all the crap of today it make me even more sick. But we can't stay young for good.

    ich bin erstaunt dass die Leute so lange durchgehalten haben und nicht gegangen sind. Der eine hat sich schon die Ohren zugehalten. Aber es gab schon einige gute Stellen / Ideen.

    Such an interesting film. The music is mostly, well, terrible, but it really shows what is to come. Not just from Kraftwerk but for Electronica as a genre. I'm not surprised to see that the band members (Hütter and Schneider) have been consistent through time.

      I'd have to agree, the music is not so great, but as a document of the times, I thought it wonderful!
