  • UPDATE: new 7 month video here: • Fake Chinese Speedcros...
Definitely a little bit worse in quality, but for less than a third of the price, maybe you're willing to look the other way
They were $50 Canadian and the same ones in the store are ~$170, shipping took only a few weeks from China to Canada via epacket.
I can include links to the specific store I bought mine from but honestly I have to expect they're all the same - if you search "speedcross" on Aliexpress you'll find a hundred shops with dozens of different colours and male / female sizes
Not sure if they're knockoffs of factory seconds, they sure seem similar enough to the genuine Salomons. It doesn't really matter.

I bought them and used them for 8-15 mile group hikes where I wanted light performance shoes to keep up. I didn't realize they were fake until now. After about 80 miles on hard trails with climbs, the tread or lugs or whatever they're called are 1/2 worn down with some of the outer lugs maybe 2/3 worn down. I'm sure I'll get 100-120 miles total before tossing them. They performed well for the purpose I bought them for and only on the longer hikes did I feel my feet needed better support, and maybe that was only because of the length of those hikes.
Knowing what I know about them and with the prices down to like $17 on eBay now, I think I'd still be willing to buy another pair. $17 for 100 miles is better than $117 for 500 miles, especially since my feet are too stupid to know the difference. I may just use the new pair for muddy and soft trails.

How did you know they were fakes? Just by the price? Also were the laces the biggest clue or were there other tells?

Don't know about the real ones but I found the chinese ones slippery as hell on concrete surfaces. Could easily be the grip design and not the materials. It was by far the biggest issue for me, when I walk on concrete It looked like I was wearing heal's for the first time trying not to fall.
Second major issue is the construction, everything is cheaply glued rather than stitched and the glue parts start to peel easily when warm.

Yeah they use VERY cheap terribly soles on knockoffs. Dangerous if you ask me! I'm surprised that even some reputable brands use those garbage soles on the cheaper models!

My husband has bought a pair of those you call chinese for 27eur or about 30$ and they are great for that money( original sample is above 120$ in Serbia even more than 200$ often so?!) he is wearing them in town and outdoor for hiking, what is confusing is just that inside od label you can see a description ''sample not for resale'' and ''made in vietnam'' I don't know what does it mean ''not for resale'', hm...

It is possible that is original.
Usually that kind of label for display purpose only in store.

Thank you for the video, but what is Salomon doing about it? This junk is all over eBay. eBay has a system in place, the Vero Reporting Tool, for manufacturer's to use to protect their brands. I reported these counterfeits to Salomon well over a year ago and the Chinese rip-offs are still alive and well.

For what it's worth, this is month seven of everyday wear and I did a charity run in them this past weekend.
They probably won't last two years like the other ones did, but I suspect I'll get at least a year out of 'em.
