Hi, thanks for another great video. That C15 can be any colour you want but I'd go with Cat yellow. The reason is that when you lift the hood in a public place, us old people can tell what the power plant is based on the colour. I can never drive again but I'm happy to ride along with you because I'm real comfortable with your skills and I love your truck!
I grew up where it actually does get cold and the OG's taught me to push in the clutch so the starter didn't have to spin both the engine and the transmission. Once you got them started in 30 below temps and let the clutch out you could hear the engine pull down when it had to spin the cold transmission. Bad assed truck man!!
I’m 56 , been driving 30+ yrs never heard that. Makes allot of sense. I’ll definitely start depressing clutch on cold starts. Every little bit helps save equipment, especially when it’s yours.
I like the Cat yellow with the black valve covers, but it’s a custom truck so I’d go with the white and turquoise accents. I’ve seen plenty of other Cats painted to match the truck it’s in. At the end of the day it’s your truck so do what makes you happy.
Sweet ride brother .my old man had a 1973 two axel pulled bellydumps for 40 years .always wanted him to doll it up but he said pretty doesn’t feed the family .guess he was very old school .(he was )worked with him every weekend .loved it .great vid for sure .nice ride my friend.
With Cummins insite, it's a little more convenient to create an initial image then a final image after your changes to the features and parameters. Even better would be to create a template so it can be quickly uploaded if you want to revert back to previous settings. I know the vid is a year old so disregard my .02 if anything.
That Bel Air paint scheme looks good on the Pete. Cat motor.... Cat yellow paint, pastel blue engine will go good with whitewall tires and automatic transmission. When you open the hood that Cat yellow says it all. Thanks for the good videos.
Here a bit of history for ya. Whenever Cat had something new the experimental, or the first models off the line were painted white. Dozors loaders and yes the first 1693 engines. If you're building way high horsepower, it'll be an experiment. A few years back Cat sold chrome valve covers. Been a Cat owner since 1977, been feed by a Cat power unit since 1954. A cat D 8800 power unit, 4 cyl turning 875 r p m. Ran a sawmill. It was painted white and we got the history lesson from Ohio Machine Youngstown Ohio. Our local Cat dealer. Schools out.
I owned and drove trucks for 45 years and I always did the thing with the clutch. It's suppose to reduce the pressure on the starter. I was taught to do it by my dad's drivers who trained me so I just always did it. I like your truck. It's sharp.
Friend of mine built the same CAT same heads, runs hot all the time. Had no problems running hot, less fuel mileage (got 5 mpg I think, I can ask) compared to his brothers X15. Says he wishes he went with the X15. I vote white block just like your mechanic says with teal accents. Have fun!
My .02 cents after spending over 80,000 building and rebuilding a Cat MXS. Long story listening to the so called Cat experts cost a lot of money. I was putting over 900 to the ground grossing 108,000 hauling fuel. It was like driving a pickup. When empty pickups couldn't keep up on 6% grades. I would recommend converting to a 6NZ. You have many more tuning options. You will need a 6NZ cam gear, relocate the cam sensor, 6NZ ECM, and move some wires around at the ECM. With the marine cam the jakes will be like stage 2 with the factory cam. Put the biggest radiator in you can make fit and a Duralite air charge cooler. For more info go to Adept Ape channel. He has a video telling you how to get 1,000 hp with factory parts. If you run over 40 psi of boost the head will crack. I cracked 2 of them running 45 psi. The reason the BXS runs high boost is because the intake valve actuators reduce the cylinder pressure.
You should still check oil and coolant, I have a C18 and it burns about 6 quarts between oil changes, it is at %90 load all day long so I don’t know if that makes it burn more. It doesn’t smoke at all.
either keep it genuine cat yellow or white like some 3406's were. KT3406E is the guy to talk to bought building that engine or helping with the parts to do it. really enjoy watching your content very rare to see these big old engines in trucks here in the UK.
Yes better than a 6nz. I know, I know, sounds like heresy. But it's true. Best internals CAT ever built. And since you're "building" it, the less than desirable stock parts will go anyway. 1000hp is not a problem with these engines. Cooling 1000hp on any engine is the real challenge. Cool project
I’ll stick with my lil 470 hp 12:7 Detroit in my 2000 Classic. 1:85 million miles, never been cracked open, never left me sitting on side of the road. Today might be that day, but I doubt it. Good luck with your build, should be awesome
My Father had 359 Cat B block painted white from Peterbilt factory. Everyone thought it was a Cummins. I think painted to match truck would look so cool.

Do a 625 internal kit, 58 injector, do not do an 1000 cam cause you'll lose jake power, 800 tops, I used a 600. Big boss stage 2 turbo, and a good tune. 1000hp no problem. I'm running in the 900-1000hp range with a deleted MXS CAT, single turbo, good tune, runs efficient, little to no smoke.
Great info! Thanks for sharing it with me! The friend of mine that just had one built is the same with little to no smoke, which where I would like it to be.
Personally, I have a thing for gold engines, like the Oldsmobile rocket engines of years gone by. Good colour for finding fluid leaks and close to the Cat yellow too.
To argue what makes a better cat motor... What you need to pay attention to is the bearing size for the mains and rods. A 6NZ block, from the little knowledge I have, has the biggest bearings in the bottom end thus having the capability of handling more power and lasting longer. This is based off of watching KT3406E and ADEPT APE here on RUclips.

The same here. I’m the only one that drives my truck. I know around the 6000 mile mark , I need to top up oil. Unless there is puddles like you said, everything should be good. Obviously open the hood once in awhile to check things. You get to know your truck. I also start without clutch.
I'm a student and I've been taught to push in the clutch to start. Matter of fact, my school's 10 speed's didn't start UNLESS you push in the clutch. I find that very interesting that you've never seen that lol. Anyway, nice truck bro!

ipd makes a nice big bore kit for those motors where you can basically make it a c17 at that size it would be much easier to make a 1000hp and your torque would be off the charts which to me is more important than the hp numbers i think the motor would match better paint wise in turqoise and maybe you could get a pin striper to put some cool white hi lights on it to break up the color really enjoy your channel keep on truckin
Could have a liner leaking coolant cats were famous for that would start by morning when block got cold nice to catch before pumping coolant through the motor lol but hey we all been trucking all our lives
Always push the clutch a good set up one can have friction only reason saving on the starter push the clutch but not to floor easy on the clutch break 😷
When you're the only who drives the truck and you know your truck there's no need to do every check every day. I pull the dip stick on my KW T800 like once a week even though it doesn't use hardly any oil. I might put a quart in a month.
I clicked on this video because I'm a new subscriber and I like your channel and your attitude and last but not least I like your truck. She's awesome.
Use the kit from IPD to make it 17 liters. Then get a cylinder head from Robert Calixtro at American Premium Castings in Vancouver, Washington. You can also get the 800 cam from him as well. Use the 211-3028 injectors from DCI. Use the 950hp C18 flash file in the ECM. If you want to keep it single turbo, get a S591/1.60. Bullseye Power will make you a turbo that will work well for that application. I'd suggest going with custom compound turbos by using the previously mentioned S591 and a 99mm HX82 as the atmosphere turbo. That setup I just mentioned is a proven recipe to get you to your 1000hp goal while still being able to work every day with no issues.
That motor weighs as much as a small car. Not surprise it bent the beam on the engine hoist. But cat motors are beast. You get a cat you have something good. Bulletproof just take care of it.
16.1 packs, flowmatched 59 injectors, 800 stick, o-ringed head and find you a set of the stock compounds and put back on with out precooler, custom file and enjoy or go a 17 liter kit and a s500 charger platform and iam with Jordan graff on paint
Powder Coat it White and the gear cover Teal or whatever color your truck is. And I’m sure you can do something to keep the oil leaks (if you ever have any) from staining the white.
Whenever I start a truck I push the clutch in because 1. starter doesn't have to spin the trans gears so it can crank easier 2. I always check to make sure its in neutral but in the event it isn't then it doesn't runaway on you some guys will put the truck in gear instead of using wheel chocks. I let the clutch out real slow just to make sure because its easy to hit things in the shop if you're not careful.
A CAT engine should ALWAYS be painted CAT Yellow, no matter the rest of the truck's color scheme. The engine is the most important part of any truck. It's the heart and soul of the truck.
Hi my friend I think that you should be painted Cat Yellow with Black rockers. Your truck would be very cool this motor in your truck. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Yea I completely agree I think that if engine was color matched to the aqua or turquoise color with the way he already has the frame white I think it would look great and very classy that the way to go in my opinion
Well, I think we all love the truck but my other reason for watching your vids is to see parts of the country I'd like to know better or had forgotten about. You live in a really pleasant town and region, it looks calm, clean, orderly, the kind of place id like to live in the future. Why not talk about it, the old houses and history when youre rolling through?
Only reason to push the clutch on a cold start less resistance on the starters your not spinning the transmission shaft also what your doing is fine I drove trucks since 1973 and if nobody else drives your truck you know every bit of it.i hate anyone else driving my truck I dont like them even messing with my seat adjustment.
1991 comp corvette yellow with all original cat decals and markings but paint it with the best automotive paint.. so you get original look as well as custom.
Paint it turquoise trimmed in white, not white trimmed in turquoise. Then it would be same as truck. And sitting inside white frame rails would look so absolutely AWESOME!!! I love this truck. Just my opinion! Keep on Trucking "Bellaire Pete"!
Love the sound of the truck. Ditch the music.

You seem to know your stuff.
@@vaughncowan4055 It's stuff I've learned over the years from many different people who have way more years on me building engines.
Stay with CAT yellow. Pretty sure I saw you and the truck the other day coming into B'ville. Sweet looking and sounding truck.
Man I can't wait to see that motor in your truck and what kinda hp you get. Keep up the awesome videos bud
That motor weighs as much as a small car. Not surprise it bent the beam on the engine hoist. But cat motors are beast. You get a cat you have something good. Bulletproof just take care of it.
Paint it white, with green valve covers to match the truck..
Plus the caterpillar marine engines are white
Do the block white(match the truck) and turbo, intercooler hot/cold pipe turquoise. That would look really nice under the hood.:)
Lol thank u about the explanation of cold start and not checking oil lol 😆
16.1 packs, flowmatched 59 injectors, 800 stick, o-ringed head and find you a set of the stock compounds and put back on with out precooler, custom file and enjoy or go a 17 liter kit and a s500 charger platform and iam with Jordan graff on paint
What a beautiful truck man looks awesome
Powder Coat it White and the gear cover Teal or whatever color your truck is. And I’m sure you can do something to keep the oil leaks (if you ever have any) from staining the white.
So excited your getting rid of the Cummins
Nice touch with the 1956 Chevrolet hood bird on your truck. Just guessing, the paint is a 1956 turquoise.
I really like the way this truck looks.
Same with Detroit 60series It’s all gear driven
Whenever I start a truck I push the clutch in because 1. starter doesn't have to spin the trans gears so it can crank easier 2. I always check to make sure its in neutral but in the event it isn't then it doesn't runaway on you some guys will put the truck in gear instead of using wheel chocks. I let the clutch out real slow just to make sure because its easy to hit things in the shop if you're not careful.
if its not in gear, nothing is turning but the input shaft.
@@Truckinlife Yeah I should have been more clear about that but theres still that drag of 75w-90 gear oil thats what I'm getting at.
A CAT engine should ALWAYS be painted CAT Yellow, no matter the rest of the truck's color scheme. The engine is the most important part of any truck. It's the heart and soul of the truck.
original cat color is white not yellow bro
Hi my friend I think that you should be painted Cat Yellow with Black rockers. Your truck would be very cool this motor in your truck. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Paint it the original CAT yellow it will love to have that under the hood
it would look good white with the value covers and the CAT in turquoise
When you push the clutch in the engine is not turning the clutch over too witch it makes it easier for the starter
I think you should paint your CAT motor Belair colours like your truck then it all matches
Can't beat a Cat motor...I have a C15 in my KW T800 pushing 625hp
🔥🔥🔥 you have one of the dopest trucks I’ve seen.
love the truck dude! music doesnt have to go away entirely but a little lower (background noise)
MECHANICS! lol. Always have to move the seat all out of wack just to pull it in the shop!… lol.
It's a Cat motor, yellow should be the way to go I would have thought.
It's your truck though🤷♂️👍
Never try to change the color of a big cat😿
Yellow looks so smooth with turquoise, but it’s YOUR baby. I think you should get your wife’s input 👍
