I am not even half way through this yet and am amazed at John's playing this fabulous riff. Loved Eric Bell's playing of this all those years ago, even then it stood out as a great sounding riff and also complex, but oh boy did it work. Thanks for this John, absolutely amazing playing.
Eric Bell was brilliant at this time. The flip side of Whisky is Black Boys On The Corner, a syncopated rocker of a track much more in line with the trio's sound and direction at this time. Although neither Whisky nor Black Boys was included on it, the album which was out at the same time as this single was Vagabonds Of The Western World. Well worth a listen, Eric's playing is awesome and also varied.
The the the thin lizzy version is just so amazing.. I'm a beginner guitarist and Ive been trying to learn this by ear and puzzling it out note for note.. Now I know why it is so confusing and difficult.. It's literally all over the show.. Thanx for the awesome explication.. It's absolutely priceless when some one helps you understand why and not just what.. You've just earned a sub
I’ve always loved this solo, it dances all over the fretboard like Eric Bell does when he plays it live , this was a great teaching video , thanks so much 👍
John, Amazing lesson as usual, I was riveted to this as i love this song and you explained the mechanics of how to play this so clearly and performed it so well, Thank you for sharing and would like to say what a fantastic job you are doing for zoe's place.
Excellent, can't believe how much I learned from this video! I've tried to copy solos for years with no understanding of how they work theory wise. Any chance of a lesson for Janis Joplin's Little Piece Of My Heart? That's one I can nearly play, but have no understanding of. Think I just learnt that the intro has 6ths in it though! Great video, thanks!
Brilliant Explanation John on a Classic Solo! Im Trying to Work out The Harmony Part i Think you Played it on the Very Last Part of the Solo.Great Work Putting it all Together...
Hi Jon, I play the solo starting on the G string starting at the 12th fret as I find the notes of the scale fall under the left hand fingers easier ...🙄
Joe Bloggs Yup, that would work. I notice Eric Bell plays the main riff from the G string 7th fret, but I just find it easier playing it in the open position 😀
Now that's how to teach a solo. Proper analysis and explanation. Not saying I understood it all. But I now know more than I used to. Great stuff John.
You know i think some of this is finally starting to penetrate the inner cells of an old Geordie's heed!
Very informative vid John, cheers
