First time I ever heard this song was in a local South Boston Pub my Dad and GrandPa drank in about 65 years ago!!! Still LOVE it. We moved to Cape Cod the next year and the next time I was in that Pub was when my Brother and I came back from Vietnam. When we walked in, the Barkeep said “You are Billy Sullivan’s boys, aren’t ya?” We never got to buy a drink!!!!!!
I‘m from Magdeburg, East Germany. This weekend is the annual medieval Kaiser-Otto-Festival. An irish band was playing. I wished to play „whiskey in the jarre“ and so they did. After, in a break the singe from Dublin brought me a bottle of Connemara. And now I‘m sitting on my roofterrace and love my drink. Thanks Ireland.
Thank you, for the invitation. But I know Ireland, the wonderful landscape (I walked the Atlantic Highway), the amazing people there, the music and for sure the good tasting whiskey. And the green eyed ladies.
We have the greenest grass the best foods and not forgetting our amazing selection of drinks here in Ireland. Uisce beatha is the Gaelic name for whiskey. Literally translates. “ the water of life” Slainte Irish toast meaning health
Oh yea , all of those classically trained orchestral string players with master's degrees & better , would obviously be totally useless with this tune !!! Only one born to the role can play it & do it justice !!!
60-year-old African-American thin Lizzy fan here. Because I’m familiar with the 1970s version of the song I can understand how it means so much more to the Irish people than it does to anyone else. I really like this version because it’s not amateur.
I'm from Dallas and saw them at the Granada. Great shows. They were a fixture at the Great State Fair of Texas for years. Won over many new fans there.
Wonderful musicianship ! Nominally the Irish National Anthem, every Irish bar band does a cover, yet this group manages to breathe some fresh vigor and energy into it. Bravo !!
Das Lied hat alles was ein Lied braucht, Freude, Melancholie, einen Text mit Sinn, ruhige Passagen und ein Refrain zum Abgehen. Thees einfach ein begnadeter Songwriter.
Wowwwww what a band my first time hearing them . They are just fantastic from the drummer to the lady playing the fiddle they could make their instruments talk .. The best version anyone could ever hear of this song . well done to all . Going to look to see can i see any more of this great band .. Everyone of you deserve praise for this version of this old song .. keep it up .. clapssssss west of Ireland music lover .....The young lady playing the fiddle is gifted with great talent ...
Das Mädel mit der Geige ist ein über Hammer, aber was soll ich sagen das ganze team ist der Hammer es ist schön solche super musik zu hören Danke an alle ^^
the intro is the sound one gets high from the sound love is made of the sound that permeates the soul to the core finds your heart and moulds it back to life keeps its beat !!!!!! i loved it
Who the hell could NOT LUV this?? It was/is amazing!! Some ppl just cannot SEE..see beyond their “version” ...it is excellent...music & making music is magical . Transforming the mundane
What a fantasticv rendition. They are all brilliant musicians, the intro on the violin and throughout, the drummer and vocalist, the pipes, wow!! I had only ever heard the rock version by Thin Lizzy and the late great Phil Lynott. Will definitely seek out more of their songs.
The violin intro on this is EPIC, it leaves me at least with the hairs on my neck standing up, it is haunting, melodic and for me one of the best intros ever. the rest of the performance is excellent.
The idea of music even when it is an interpretation of a classic is the freedom of the music itself. Music is self expression. The Killdares did an excellent rendition. And the introduction was unique and I personally enjoyed it. If you didn't like it no need to ridicule. Just move on. Channel you inner hate in a more positive direction than commenting here. Improve an aspect of your life as opposed to attempting to tear down another's. You might find yourself to be happier every morning.
Kevin Fleming agreed. I love completely different versions of a cover. If you haven't heard Brian Justin Crum cover Creep I highly recommend. Or Lemmy Kilmister Stand By Me. Love this!
Keep on doing such great work and music. You are very welcome. Even in old damned Germany. Yes we Huns are loving you! Thumbs up! Stay as you are. Kindest Regards. Christian
Saw them there several times my self I worked for Dr Pepper there and I always would make time to go watch these folks at least two times a day during the whole fair they are amazing live true musicians she gets down on the fiddle like no other
Loved the fiddle opener. Never heard fiddle so dark, almost hard rock. Whiskey In The Jar is a favorite song of mine and I wasn't as into the Killdares' version as I've been into others. It wasn't bad, just not my favorite. The opening fiddle though made the video totally worth it. Very cool.
oh my gosh...this song brings back memories...We used to hear it played by Off-Kilter at Disney World Epcot. When my grandma (who was SUPER proud to be Irish, btw) and my mama would go to Disney with us, they didn't ride the rides and couldn't take walking around in the heat, so they would either shop or sit in shady areas. At Epcot, they would watch Off-Kilter's shows back to back. This was one song I remember loving when I would stop riding a while and go to a show with them. My Gwam didn't make it to our 2015 trip and passed away about a month later. Haven't heard this song since at least 2011, the last trip Gwam came on. Was not expecting to cry today, but I guess I needed it.
Well YES a great performance by all concerned, plus lets not forget the production camera work, following plus interpreting the Violinist was just poetry in vision; well they have another very pleased follower
That intro. Never heard a violin played quite like that. Incredible. Eerie. Actually gave me chills. I want an hour of just that. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the rest of the song too. But I want that intro violin on a continuous loop. Think I’ll subscribe to this. Oh, and that smile while she’s playing. 😊
Profesjonalizm grupy potwierdzony mistrzowską grą na skrzypcach w wykonaniu Pani Roberty Rast. Aż miło posłuchać. Zdecydowanie najlepsza wersja tego utworu jaką znam. Pozdrawiam.
Excellent performance, I hate to admit it, but this is the first time I have seen these guys, and this video is 8 years old!!! I thought they did an outstanding job on this piece.
Absolutely love a violin 🎻 and she’s awesome 👏🏼 so happy I started going through RUclips👏🏼 Hauntingly Beautiful 🌹 Thank you for sharing this video 🙏🏽 Then she gets you to moving goes straight into my soul. They are absolutely amazing ♥️🌹♥️
Ah Roberta... that wicked little smile at the beginning there... Both a heart-melter and a warning. lol ( Trust me, fellas... that's not a woman you can handle, no matter how you kid yourselves. lol ) Truly my favorite version of this. Have to revisit it from time to time, just to remind me that I do have at least a bit of Irish blood running through my veins. I hope that at some point, the Killdares decide to come out of retirement, and remind us all of why we miss them so much.
How many glorious nights at the Tipperary Inn and various musical festivals have Tim and this Brilliant Band entertained me? Too many to count, thanks so much for the memories!
Hallelujah my beautiful youth - how wonderful it was then. 😊 nice to hear and see this great song again. - Halleluja meine schöne Jugend - wie herrlich war das doch damals. 😊 schön diesen tollen Song wieder einmal zu hören und zu sehen.
"Devil take the women cuz they always lie so easy." I have known and loved this song since my childhood. This is a great version of it--just like me bro used to sing.

You mean to tell me there are Irish folks in South Boston? LOL. "Local pub" is the key here. Not some franchise.

On behalf of the people of Ireland, Your Quite Welcome!!! (Irish Citizenship through Grandparents ancestry!!) 🙂

That intro, pure emotion, that smile, no one else can make a fiddle sing like that, it can only come from the heart. I could listen for hours.
Amen!

This intro is insanely good, Irish music speaks to the soul. Erin go bragh!
looks like Foogy Dew first movement
Something that goes for over 6 minutes and you don't want to turn it off. It's the sign of great music!!!

@Laurence O'Connor Hello from New Jersey.
Without music, life would be a mistake.
Wicked version of this mighty classic. The Irish produce a fine beauty here
She rules the performance. OUTSTANDING. 👍❤🙏
Fantastic. My favorite version of this old Irish folk/rock classic. Brilliant intro great vocals and the fiddle is amazing.
you should listen to voodoo child do this song !
Intro = amazing! That wasn't a solo, that was pure emotion transmuted into sound. This lady rocks! Great performance by the whole band!
!!
One of the best live songs I have ever listened to...fact!❤
Yeah it is!!
@@susanamonds2252 I listen to this so often... and I always enjoy!
A band like this feeds on people's energy, put down your phones, live the moment...rock out with the band.

That intro, on the violin, makes the hair on my arms to stand at attention. My Goddddd! It's mental.
She is awesome!
The electrical storm around me went crazy.

The intro on this is sooooo GOOOOD that I can't find the words to describe how good it is.

I'm getting goosebumps hearing this version of Whiskey in the jar
I cried, caused a flood.

Incredible rendition of a wonderful song. Lady, you owned that violin and brought it to life.
The violin intro on this is EPIC, it leaves me at least with the hairs on my neck standing up, it is haunting, melodic and for me one of the best intros ever. the rest of the performance is excellent.
LOVE that dark melancholic intro. Unusual to hear a fiddle used so well with effects for such a superb ... effect.

Hey, Kevin, many of us are with you. Freedom of the music, or of self-expression in any way that's constructive, is why art exists.
Whew! Read that just in time! Just kidding...in agreement wholeheartedly!
Kevin Fleming Indeed Kevin.
Kevin Fleming agreed. I love completely different versions of a cover. If you haven't heard Brian Justin Crum cover Creep I highly recommend. Or Lemmy Kilmister Stand By Me. Love this!
No need to justify or be an apologist Kevin, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
What a great version of this amazing song.
so was von schön gespielt , meinen Respekt .
I had the good fortune to see the Killdares on several occasions, all them fine music and good times.
nice update. well presented. excellent blend of modern arrangement with a very traditional vocal.
Wow, I have never heard this song before, it's amazing. Violin plays the intro sounds really well. You guys are fantastic. 😄👍👏🤙🤙🤙💙❤💚

They can’t ... the band retired in November 2016 after 20 years of performing. 😢
Lead guitar played on a violin...lovely, many thanks for putting this on cheers.
I miss watching you all perform , such greatness! XO
Can't stop playing this song. Dammit.
I love how, after the serious intro, she breaks into a smile and loosens up.
Absolutely love it . This is my music
What a pity, I would have loved to hear this song live on stage. It's simply ingenious...!!! 💪🏼🖤
astonishing, how much is still in in this song, after a few hundreds of years. GOOD ONE!
I want this song to still be here in my next life. Love it.
Great version, but I it left out two of my favorite versus.
You guys are amazing I wish I would have seen you sooner, god bless
They played at the Texas state fair religiously for years as I grew up and became proud to be half Scottish and half Bulgarian.
Saw them there several times my self I worked for Dr Pepper there and I always would make time to go watch these folks at least two times a day during the whole fair they are amazing live true musicians she gets down on the fiddle like no other
Well, here in CA, I must identify as "part" Bulgarian.....
THAT is some fine fiddling- and you HAVE to love the guy playing the pipes!
Very cool.

Now this is wicked , good music exists! I’m hearing what my 15 daughter listens to and todays trajectory with music is going downhill fast!!
Creativity is alive and well here.😊
First time seeing and hearing these people. Wow! The violinist is darn good, along with being easy on the eyes.
The band is just meh, but the violinist is superb!

The violin in the first two minutes is transcendental, wonderful.
Thought it was a little dragged out, would've been better shorter.
