      Cheers for that! It's nice they are actually helping to crack those tough concepts in science!

      No problem! Yes this was one of the original ones. All very relevant for todays spec though.

      Ha! It looks horrendous doesn't it! It really is just a bigger Hess' cycle. (As if Hess' cycle wasn't enough!) No.... it follows a structured route as shown in the vid. One thing I should add.... know your definitions! They really do help in writing the correct species at each stage. Any issues just get in touch.

      You are an actual angel i will do! I've got definition on little flash cards! as well as some from AS so hopefully i will rememeber them. theres lots of definition ones like that in biology too. (sigh)
      IN THE LESSON TODAY we did examples with second enthalpies and like Al2O3 so you times all the numbers and i got THEM ALL RIGHT and my class was like whaaaat so thank you so much i hope you know how much your videos help us all! xx

      Sounds like you have it cracked! A great mark builder too, they can be worth 3 marks just for a cycle. Not bad ay!

    Thank you so much, I was so confused about this, my chemistry teacher told us that we don't have to remember the definitions and didn't actually explain the born Haber cycle to I was just trying to memorize how to draw the born Haber cycle. After looking at this video and learning the definitions, I actually understand the born Haber cycle.

    Thank you so much for these videos. You really make Chemistry a lot easier than what's in my textbook. I have one question though. When you discuss the born-haber cycle for calcium chloride you mention that we affinitise the electron for 2 chlorine atoms so we need to multiply by 2. Now along the cycle we also have to atomise 2 chlorine atoms right? Doesn't that mean we have multiply that value too?
    Sorry it's a pretty long question but it's puzzling me.🙃
    Edit: Nevermind, i just watched your next video of this playlist and my question has been answered. 😅

    i thought Bond dissociation was different to atomisation
    Bond dissociation is enthalpy change when all the bonds of the same type in 1 mole of gaseous molecules are broken
    Atomisation is enthalpy change when 1 mole a gaseous atoms is formed from an element
    9:14
    Great video anyway

    • @AlleryChemistry
      @AlleryChemistry  8 лет назад +3

      Yes. You are right. Annoyingly some boards call the process of 0.5Cl2 --> Cl bond dissociation and some call it atomisation. You will have to check your spec for the correct terminology they use.

    hi! do we need to include the state symbols throughout the born haber cycles? or just when we're showing change of state?

    • @AlleryChemistry
      @AlleryChemistry  Год назад +1

      I would get in the habit of writing state symbols particularly in born haber cycles as you will need to elements in the standard states.

    i keep coming across questions where there are equation like
    1/2 F2 -> F(g)
    where would that fit into the born haber cycle? all equations shown here include both elements; is it formation?
