Anakin using two lightsabers was so freaking cool
It’s also cool seeing him use Jar’Kai on occasion through TCW
No kidding bro.
Really was
I liked how it was 2 different lightsaber colours
I find multiple different colours pretty cool
For a second there it didn't just look badass, it looked just as effortless as when Dooku was dueling Obi-Wan. That part blew my mind.
Until of course he lost one.

Me: “Because two blades are better than one.”
subconsciously Dooku didn’t want to kill Obi-Wan, I think he was stalling for time when attempting to execute Obi-Wan, knowing that Anakin would try to save him. Reason he only injured Kenobi in the first place. He never could bring himself to kill him. That’s also the reason why Palpatine told Anakin to kill him, because in their second duel Dooku was supposed to kill Kenobi but didn’t. Sidious saw that as a weakness and a direct sign of disobedience
Dooku also spared Obi-Wan on Oba-Diah when he had a wide open shot at Obi-Wan's chest when he grabs his sword arm, but knees him in the gut instead.
I never thought of that. Makes sense.
Very possible
Palpatine told anakin to kill dooku because dooku was unarmed and at anakins mercy and the Jedi don't kill under those circumstances whereas the sith will, palpatine was always manipulating anakin to push him closer to the dark side. For example telling him to kill dooku, putting him on the council knowing the Jedi wouldn't allow it and playing into anakins ego. It was all palpatine manipulating anakin
@@joshuarobinson6011 both explanations are correct, each one directed to it's single character, Dooku and Anakin. IMO.
Obi-Wan Kenobi had the characteristic knack of doing the right thing so naturally that it almost seemed accidental. This all put the pieces in place so that the elder Kenobi, when helping and training Luke Skywalker, seemed almost blissfully unconcerned about the terrible odds facing them. He had attained a Zen acceptance of his role without further anxiety about his decisions.
Aye. I suppose it's a light-side force thing: "trust in the will of the force and everything will work out."
@@finalscore2983 Yes, that's a good point.
As a martial artist, I can tell you there's no worse feeling in a match than knowing you're out classed.
This was WWE though and he got thrown a chair lol.
@@rexmagi4606 when I have to go against someone stronger than me AND NOT EVEN MY ANGER STRENGTH COULD MATCH THEM
Indeed.
I've been the type to get better mid spar/fight, older students and practitioners loved me xD
As a martial artist, if I'm out classed I normally go on defense until I can see my opponents fighting style and then strategist a way to get the upper hand
one thing i like about the prequels is we got to see lightsaber types/fights we had never seen before
episode 1 gave us mauls double blade
episode 2 gave us duel wielding and dookus curved hilt
episode 3 gave us 4 sabers used at the same time.
even in the clone wars tv show we got to see pong krell use two double sided blades at once
the sequels only really gave us one new thing and that was a lightsaber with a guard
That guard made zero sense as well
Beautifully well said
Totally agree.
I imagine y'all talking about Kylo Ren's lightsaber. This channels explains the specifics of that & the reasons behind it as well.
@@DanKen139 In my opinion Kylo was really one of the best things to come from the Sequels. Him,, Finn, and BB8.
i think it's interesting to note that after Dooku manages to win against Anakin, he breathes a sort of exhausted sigh as if the fight was more than Dooku expected. not necessarily more than Dooku was capable, but still a lot more than he thought he was gonna deal with.
I think another reason why it was so effective on Dooku in this specific circumstance was more about him fighting a younger, more vigorous and aggressive opponent like Anakin, AND the fact that he was expecting to fight Anakin with 1 blade, and this instant development with little time to react "upset' his rhythm.
Dooku is a very methodical and deliberate person. he likes to plan ahead, and doesn't like being surprised, and is always prepared for them.
he would think that a young Anakin who just saw his Master get beaten, would fall back on fundamentals of fighting. sticking to standard strengths.
but instead, exactly like you said, Anakin not only now has 2 lightsabers, but Anakin at this point already has his very aggressive mentality regarding combat, (which in other videos you've explained had put many jedi masters in awe, but also unease) and it was not something Dooku was expecting, least of all from a padawan.
That and maybe he thought "uh oh.. I just cut off the golden child's forearm.." Sidious might not be too happy about that
i saw it more as a dissapointed sigh
@@Drew_64 me to like he was expecting much better, think he beat obi won and anakin quite easily
I like your insight but as the others mentioned, his sigh was of disdain over his easy victory. The wildcard was Yodas appearance. Dooku being the classic duelist was expecting a harder fight from a Master Jedi.
I think that cutting anakin’s
Arm off being the chosen one actually hurt him through the force a bit like a ripple like the wind knocked out of him almost an unnatural event.
This video is my weekly reminder that Dooku is really powerful and underrated.
I think its a more simple reason he used 2 instead of one. The directors wanted to please the crowds that asked for more lightsaber, just like when Christopher Walken wanted more cowbell.
That is obviously the most perfect comparison
Yup. It’s like having an artist literally throw paint on a canvas only to later hear art experts infer a deeper meaning.
Walken is good at this. Even in A View to a Kill he's all about "More! More power!"
I just love to see Anakin dual wielding. Wish we got to see more of it in Revenge of the sith.
Teaching Ahsoka dual sabers was Ani keeping her alive and not loosing her to a Sith he had faced.
Honestly Anakin using two lightsabers against Count Dooku. Was only an attempt to buy Anakin time until Yoda arrived. Also just in case Anakin’s lightsaber was destroyed by the Sith Lord.
The green one? Because i dont remember anakin lightsaber got destroy by the sith because his first one got damage during the droid factory and the other one just gone
@@faridhaikal6713 You are correct. The lightsabers Anakin is welding against count dooku are just simple backup lightsabers. He and Obi-Wan gotten from Mace Windu in the arena.
I agree. Dooku wanted to test Obi-Wan. To see how Qui-Gon trained him. Obi-Wan gave Anakin to use Jar'Kai. Those moments helped gain time. Yoda to arrive. Dooku taught so much Obi-Wan and Anakin then. May the Force be with you too
Well in this case, Obi-Wan made the smart decision. In a traditional duel, Doomu would most certainly have won. So Obi-Wan trying to mix it up was the correct move. Granted, since Anakin was still only a Padawan, it didn't work, but in a battle, when you know that you don't stand a chance of winning, you need to change up your plan, even if it only increases your chances of winning slightly.
this was a great video, exactly what I hoped it to be.
thank you
Except when Anakin was using Jar Kai, it was actually form 4, not 6,which Ahsoka also used.
Wow. Good point
Let's not forget Anakin used both his own Lightsaber & Dooku's to deliver the killing blow to Darth Tyrannous! Personally, I like to think in addition to cutting off both Dooku's hands, killing him with two Lightsabers was also basically Anakin/Proto-Vader's way of mocking Dooku by killing him with two blades, his own & Dooku's, which is poetic in a way considering what Dooku thought about wielding two lightsabers & the fact Anakin previously lost to Dooku while wielding two blades!
I learned about different lights lightsabers styles today, so thanks!
While it was a desperate & useless move against a master such as Dooku (Tyranus), I understand the logic behind trying to confuse him with having to face a dual lightsaber-wielding opponent. Changing style mid-fight is something that I do very well. Not as a Force wielder, of course. But as a martial artist. While it got me in trouble with many a master and in many a "pure class", having various fighting styles and being able to move into & out of each one has made me successful in fighting to this point.
Lookout we've got a badass over here
@@NinoCristianini *insert daredevil dog*
Love this explanation
Do you think Mustafar Obi-Wan could have beaten Dooku?
Nah
With no Force powers? I see it as possible
We saw him at the beginning of ROTS, clearly he didn't.
I would say yes actually, because on mustafar, he had more determination, and a fierceness, because everything rested on winning that battle.
@@East_Coast_Toasty_Boy They kept shelving Obi Wan for the plot.
I always thought it was to give Anakin an edge and fact that he had the tendency to lose or accidently destroy his lightsaber. He even said early in the movie "not again" moments after his lightsaber was destroyed in the droid factory. I think anakin lost it at the beginning of the movie, too, during the speeder chase.
A disturbance in the Force told him it was important to the plot..
On more, in verse thoughts, one weapon PROBABLY was seen as better then just one. Seeing the situation here was a Padawan vs a VERY good Master. An unable to assist him anymore Kenobi knew Anakin wasn't able to yet take him much in one v one combat an so was gonna need everything he could get to both attack and defend with. Dooku was being a bit overly critical as he seemed to in truth perform VERY well given the mismatch. An was a wonder either lasted long as they did. Even with Dooku holding back. Was just that he underestimated Anakin's abilities in adapting an learning on top of not being ready for his growing power an abilities as the war went on
Very Nice Vid TSW. I generally tend to nit pick your vids. lol. But you hit the nail on the head, and spared no detail. I love the novelization. Obi-Wan knew Jar kai would not win against Dooku, but it would give Anakin a momentary advantage, and it did as in the fight as Anakin slipped into Jar Kai, the ever master of Makashi realized he had lost the momentum and fell back till he could regain the momentum of the fight.
Anakin i'm sure learned from Sindrallic, Yoda, Mace windu, and probably Plo Koon as well in lightsaber combat when they had the spare time. Anakin even learned from THE master of Soresu. In a what if scenario, I think Anakin though he favored Form V, if he had had patience, and become the pinnacle of the lightside, would of been a Lightsaber Master to the point that he would of revolutionized in many ways. In this scenario, the Jedi he would of taught would go on to become some of the most fierce, determined, and level headed Lightsaber Duelists the Order had even scene.
Like the legends story of Mace Windu, who made a gank squad surrender by simply touching his hilt. I think Anakin, and those he taught would of never even needed to touch the hilt.
Dooku is a boss 🙌🏿
Nice video
Realizing now, I think one of the reasons anakin and kenobi focused on saber to saber combat was simply because they had to utilize it more than any other jedi. That isn’t to say others didn’t practice it, just that they had the most frequent encounters with sith and other saber wielders (grievous and the dark saber) so it makes sense that they’d be more prepared and experienced to use it.
Obi: "Sick two lightsaber fight."
I wonder if Anakin would've Kept the Green lightsaber if Dooku Destroyed the Blue lightsaber
Anakin always used a blue saber. The reason he had a green one here is that Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme were captured and about to be executed when the rest of the Jedi showed up and just tossed them a couple random sabers.

Anakin would have built a new lightsaber of his own no matter what.
@@drksideofthewal I know I'm just saying maybe he would've had it for first part of the clone wars era and then it would've Been Destroyed somehow and then he'd have to build himself a new one
Something that's interesting is this: Anakin uses both lightsabers to attack, rather than one to defend and one to attack. Had he continued to use one to defend and the other to attack he probably would have tired out Dooku, or maybe even been able to hold out for Yoda's arrival.
But that's not anakins style, he's always been an offensive fighter rather than defense
@@joshuarobinson6011 yes but was that during the war or before it?
@@jlaws8740 Anakin told Padme a story about he entered what he called "aggressive negotiations", so being on offense seems to have been his motto even before the war.
@@decepticonxhunter4850 you do have a point I will admit.
@@jlaws8740 I don’t think a more balanced approach would have helped Anakin against Dooku. Dooku excels at picking apart defensive fighters but he had far more trouble beating offensive fighters. He could handle RoS Kenobi, who was probably the best defensive duellist in the order, without to much trouble. However he was noted as an equal to Windu, forced to flee by Yoda and disarmed (quite literally) by RoS Anakin. This makes sense given what we know about both form 2 and Dooku as a fighter. Form 2 has the precision and the subtlety to circumvent a defensive fighter but doesn’t keep up as well physically with more aggressive forms like 4,5 and 7. Also Dooku is noted to not have excellent stamina due to his advanced age. Against a defensive fighter he can take it slowly, waiting for the perfect opening as they are unlikely to break his guard. But against an aggressive fighter he has to match their level to sone extent so they don’t overwhelm his preferred slower pace. So going aggressive was probably the better call. Sorry for the long ass response, just wanted to get across all my thoughts.
The real question is how come obi wan got his ass handed to him but 10 years prior he was a force to be reckoned with when he fought maul
Dooku is more powerful than Maul
He forgot to use......The high ground lol
Plot
Thank you. You have a nice day too.
dooku trained greviois & ventrus (or whatever her name is) ... both used 2 or more lightsabers. I would say dooku was also used to this style
Dooku doesn’t really hate the style on principle. He’s just so freaking tired of it.
@@2_Rivers I was making a joke
Anakin with two lightsabers was pretty cool. It was also cool that he was able to *slightly* throw dooku backwards with jar'kai. This is probably one of my favorite moments along with their fight on rots.
Could you maybe make one about ri Lee master Jedi ? He was fan who passed in real life saving his classmates and Lucas Gate made him a part of the star wars universe
I'm sure it's been done but please do a video on how Obiwan changed forms and why he changed forms in his various deuls with Darth Maul , how seeing Quigon defeated by Maul influenced Obiwans development with the lightsaber
I think obi wan was correct where dooku saw failure kenobi saw a success
From Wookieepedia:
"The Jar'Kai style developed by the Yovshin Swordsmen was named for a city on Atrisia. The city of Jar'Kai was also the site where the original Jar'Kai dueling sabers were crafted. These weapons were utilized by the Yovshin and were designed for the express purpose of being dual-wielded.
Niman, the dual-blade style developed by the Royale Macheteros of the Kashi Mer, was named for the dual triumvirate of the Kashi deities. The style was adopted by the Legions of Lettow, a group of Dark Siders responsible for the First Great Schism of the Jedi Order. After the defeat of the Legion at the hands of the Jedi, Niman was adopted by the Jedi order, eventually being refined into the sixth form of lightsaber combat, referred to by the same name.[2] It should be noted that there were Jedi who engaged in dual-blade combat prior to the adoption of Niman by the Order, an example being Awdrysta Pina, who wielded a pair of Jedi katanas in battle. Many Jedi Knights and Sith Lords trained to use Form VI in the hopes of gaining a basic knowledge of the dual-bladed combat, but very few ever achieved complete mastery of Niman. Both styles predated the invention and usage of lightsabers, but being designed to be practiced with swords, they were easily adapted."
Dooku was so skilled he didn't slice off Obi-Wans limbs even though he clearly could when fighting Anakin if he wanted to, but he made pin point jabs and slices that were probably on millimeters of contact to temporarily disable him and take him out of the fight
You are not just taught by one's own teacher but by your enemies as well.
Even without the specifics, the reasons was obvious. Although, knowing more details is extremely beneficial as well.
I love green lightsabers. Anakin is one of my favourite characters in Star Wars. Anakin with a green lightsaber even briefly made me incredibly happy
I love how the prequels took many ideas and events from the Dark Horse Tales of the Jedi series from the 90s. This scene was from the Exar Kun character fighting his master before falling to the dark side.
In video you stated that Ashoka primarily used Ataru ( form IV) that is wrong she primarily used Shien ( form V ) with reversed grip... Just small detail.. I like your videos.
Anakin being the best padawan, starfighter and duelist ever
I have a video request Who is more powerful Darth Revan vs Darth Vader also did Exar Kun take the title of Darth
Once you master that curved hilt you don't necessarily become some undefeatable juggernaut but rather are able to take advantage of your opponents ignorance of the physics of the curved hilt. Power strikes are more fluid but very close defense is somewhat compromised, it is definitely a weapon to control the pace of the combat.
When Revenge of the Sith came out a friend of mine that read a ton of Star Wars novels explained to me that Obi-Wan defeated Greivous because Obi-Wan was one of the greatest defensive light saber wielders around. He could parry attack after attack then make use of an opening to score a minor hit, then return to parrying.
More recently, I listened to Master and Apprentice, and I remember the part about Obi-Wan's frustration that he wasn't being trained in more than the most basic movements and patterns. IIRC, it was explained to him that was because Qui Gon was trying to get Obi-Wan to master those basics more than anyone so he'd have a nearly perfect defensive ability.
While I know that Dooku was nearly unbeatable in a one on one duel, when I consider all the points I do know, it seems weird that Obi-Wan lost so quickly. Even more so when I assume that Obi-Wan would have definitely spent more time training to fight other light saber wielders after his fight with Maul than he probably did when he was a Padawan and the Sith were presumed extinct.
Yeah, I believe they cut it short and got lazy, to make room for Anakin and for Yoda.
There's an episode of Clone Wars where Dooku and Kenobi face off again, and Dooku comments on him improving.
3 reasons
Anakins was his padawan- he knew his strengths and his weaknesses.
2. He definitely knew dookus strengths and weakness
3. Obi wan if you remember had a habit of being mindful of the future; he may have sensed the need for it
I was never much a of Star Wars fan growing up because I was more of a Trekkie, but I always felt bad for Dooku. I feel like he deserved a redemption arc. He was right in that the council had grown too arrogant. I loved his story in Tales of the Jedi.
I’ve always loved his fighting style
Its cause he knew Dukie butt hated people that used two sabers instead of dueling with 1.
I think in one of the novels Dooku mused on Anakain's "sad attempt" to duel wield lightsabers.
definitely the right call, i completely agree with you on those points, giving Anakin the second lightsaber wouldnt have won the fight in any scenario but it 100% bought them the seconds the needed for Yoda to arrive and save the day
Amazing and what if obi wan use qui gon Jin light saber form to fight dooku in episodes 2 and 3 like he did in obi wan kenobi series against darth Vader.
He also used it to kill Maul. I blame it on lazy plotting, trying to shelve Kenobi to bring up Anakin.
Please do a holocron on anakin with two lightsabers form 2 in left hand and form 5 in right making a new form 7 with Mace! Of course after defeating Douko and using his form 2 with his saber shape!!!
I think its because the dual fencing style throws off the balance of Dooku's Makashi form 2 fencing style and Anakin does force Dooku on his heel for quite a period like this. It's also not true that Anakin was only trained in a single blade he had been practicing Jar' kai for a while according to any novelizations. Following his mutilation, he would go on to master form 5 under the tutelage of Cin Drallig his missing arm and Vader's further mutilation would have him remember this form with disdain and regret but he had only used it against a far better duelist. Anakin also trained Ahsoka in the use of Jar' Kai so clearly there was a period where he did not feel this way.
It’s tuff call. How hit that home run if you don’t practice it often. A lot if ankin spent more time on learning forms 1-5 . If keep someone alive you best know how to use all the form and know it’s weaknes.
Anakin used 2 sabers vs Barris Offie during the aftermath of the Jedi Temple bombing, but he only did so for the middle third of the fight. Still, that's enough to see that this wasn't a one-time use of a specific lightsaber form in Anakin's fighting style overall, and makes it make even more sense how Ahsoka ended up using 2 sabers.
I'm kinda surprised more didn't duel wield or have something else in their empty hand. Throughout history the other hand usually had a shield or some other weapon in it, when it wasn't occupied by a big weapon that required the use of 2 hands, such has a pike or great sword. It increases survivability, and that's why it was a common tactic, to arm them as such, before firearms became more prevalent, and advanced.
"bro you are gonna look so cool, take this"
Later, when Anakin fights Count Dooku again, Anakin uses two lightsabers to get ahead.
it's my headcanon now that Kellaren Beq is the one who instructed Anakin on the technique
this is the reason I want to learn Jar'kai
Take my saber, Ani, for gr8 fanservice!
Each fighting style has its uses. Who else is excited about jedi survivor where we can utilize multiple combat forms?
It's dooku that let them live. He stacked their wounded bodies together. He wanted a more old republic style sith. He never was about the rule of two. He wanted allies in the dark ways
It is awesome!!!! 😈
Maybe he should have pocketed the 2nd blade. Just incase he lost his.
Good analysis brotha !
Cause cooool and marketing that’s why lol I was hella pissed when he only had the 2 sabers for 5 seconds as a kid😂🤣
How do the jedi learn forms? Can you do a video?
Dooku fought Obi-wan, Anakin and then YODA. Shows how truly skilled Dooku is at dueling.
Love dooku
I think this ties into your theory; Anakin cuts the light as well, trying to use everything to shake dooku up.
It was cool. That’s why.
One of the interesting things about a circle and Anakin is it the only two Jedi and Canon that would go from a green blade to a blue blade? This is usually the other way around going from a blue blade to a green blade as the force powers strengthen and they become more connected to the force. This could be a sign of both how Obi-Wan f***** up with Anakin and how Anakin prioritised more combat orientated training. Due to the night age of the war, they were in requiring more combat focused and less spiritual and mystical focused
I think the real answer is that George said "you know what would look cool? Two lightsabers. Make it happen."
Only the force can judge me
Ironic that both Anakin's apprentice and those Dooku trained favoured using more than one blade.
Anakin grabs blue lightsaber with left hand.
Next scene, he has it on the right hand.
Wow Obi-wan must have seen Qui-gon in him and that’s why he wanted to learn from him to.
Curious. If anakin doesn’t like dual wielding why was he ok with Ashoka and Galen doing this? Helpful crutches for a learning padowan
hahaha so basically Kenobi threw Anakin a second saber because he always breaks them? well that sounds canon to me, I mean they even banther about how many lightsabers he lost so far in the prequels. I don't know how I should perceive that lol, if Obi simply knew his padawan that well, or if he had so much lack of faith in Anakin. (probably a bit of both, mostly the breaking every damned saber he gets one I'm guessing)
It was also to help fight dooku as he knew dooku wouldn't like fighting against someone with 2 blades due to dookus form but also yeah it was probably partly because anakin constantly lost or broke his sabers
Was the red kyber crystal Dooku had the bled kyber crystal from Yaddle’s lightsaber?
What about general grievous? Is he skilled in jarkai?
So basically, he was relying on anakin’s chaotic, impulsive, risky (some might say) ways of thinking, and/or fighting, to confuse (and thus, have an edge against) dooku, and that’s the one time anakin was trying to be focused, and precise! Wow! 🤣🤣 that is INCREDIBLY INCONVENIENT! 🤣🤣
I'm pretty sure that Ahsoka's main lightsaber form was Shien, and Anakin's use of Jar'kai was based on Ataru's variant of Jar'kai.
Y’all forget anikan was a master of like 4 lightsaber stances he only use his favorite form when he was a Jedi switch forms when he became Vader
Has anyone else realized that the extra lightsaber obi-wan got and threw to Anakin at 0:57 looks similar to Revan's Jedi lightsaber🤔
I think while Obi-wan was lying on the ground defeated he knew Anakin was no match for Dooku. So he threw Anakin another lightsaber giving Anakin another style that might have more succes on Dooku. You can see Dooku was surprised and backed away for a bit but quickly gained control afterwards. Anakin lasted longer in his duel against Dooku because he was a bit more skilled then Obi-wan but eventually faced the same inevitable defeat.
Systemantilly dismantling... I'ma steal that! 1L or 2L's?
Weird... I'm watching aotc right now...
Long answer: this video
Short answer: it was cool
I thought ashoka used shien because that is also accosiated with a second blade called the shoto which Ashoka has. Shien was also created to be effective against blaster fire which is the entire reason she survived order 66
It worked... and might not have been desperation on Kenobi's part. Buying time to come up with another plan is still a plan in the moment.
If Anakin had stayed with a single saber, it's still possible Duku would have toyed with him as well, as punishment to Kenobi (or bragging/gloating/toying with his prey, etc...) and Yoda would have arrived all the same...
Is that the same hilt Qui Gon used or the one Obi Wan lost in his duel with Maul? Prop wise 6:37
"Hey, master, he has a curved lightsaber!"
"That's cheating! You should have a second lightsaber!"
"Genious, master! Form 2 is weak to multiple opponents, with two lightsabers I'm basically two people!"
It's because of his talent with multiple saber forms that Anakin was compared to Master Windu with his lightsaber skills. Windu was (to my knowledge) the only living Jedi who'd truly mastered all of the forms making him an unrivaled force in duels. Virtually no other Jedi could compare, though Anakin came close.
I hate that in this fight and more so in the episode 3 duel, they introduce great concepts that they only use for a few seconds. Like when they jump on the pipes in episode 3. Seems like a great set piece and it only lasts like 4 seconds
1:43 - Are my eyes deceiving me, or is Anakin holding Qui-Gon Jinn's old lightsaber?
