  • My Gmade GS02F Komodo Double Cab has been plagued with drivetrain issues, pretty-much from the start. Today, we finally identify what happened and how you can avoid it.
    But, first... a confession...

    I have the gs02f Bom, upgraded wheels/tyres some brass Knuckles nothing too crazy like I do on my TRX4, I've replaced bearings,drive shafts, removed the 2 speed servo (as you said kept losing drive on steep hills and roiling off into oblivion), and I too have had no end of problems with the bevel gears used the truck a total of 5 days out and on all 5 I've had to change the gears due to teeth loss and clicking etc. One full set front and rear lasted 20mins on a slow crawl. I've since contacted Gmade and they have agreed the gears are at fault and have sent me 3x sets as a apology and have said they are making HD gears soon. Hopefully that is the truth 🤷🏻‍♂️ I love the gs02f but I'm at a loss if they don't make these gears. Thank you for your videos at least I'm not the only one with these issues.

      Pinned comment. Thanks for sharing. That's shocking (un)reliability! Hopefully, they really are coming out with hardened steel bevel gears. That would be great and would properly sort this truck out!

    Great update Mike, thanks for putting in all the time that it takes to do these videos. I’m extremely relieved that the GS02F is not as bad as your early experiences might have indicated, particularly as I ordered a BOM earlier this week 😂

    Update. It was one of the plastic bushings. I mixed up a 1 and 2 and the 1 size busing is a few mm width less than 2. This cause my binding.
    I want to thank you and for being so patient and receptive to the issue. You are quality for that and I look forward to watching future reviews from you.
    For anyone else who comes across this issue, you may use any information regarding my conversation as needed. The plastic bushings all have the same part number... but are labeled 1,2 or 3 based off of slight variations. I'm would highly recommend to any to disassemble the transmission fully and not specific areas. The issue will present itself.
    Thank you again,
    Ethan

      Glad you got it sorted. It's weird, because Tamiya parts trees use the same numbering system and I've had no issue. On this, I completely missed it!

    Have my buffalo about over a year now. Drive with 3s and a 35turn motor. Its my first and only crawler. Pretty happy. The back diff makes noises but from the beginning. Didn't change in tone so maybe normal. Haven't any issues with my use. But I do not heavy crawling with it. Here and there some more extreme tests like pulling a few kilos of bricks or garden garbage.

    Much appreciated. Do you know whether Gmade upgraded the parts? I mean - it sounds at least partially like poor material choices. I would love to hear whether you have some long-term feedback on the chassis. I think this chassis is very interesting (in particular with the centilever rear susspension) - especially if it would be compatible with the LC70 Killerbody.

    • @TheRCScotsman
      @TheRCScotsman  8 месяцев назад +1

      It would certainly fit pretty much any body, so that shouldn't be an issue. The truck is great and the gears are alright, but they have not yet made hardened steel items. It's a shame, as that would be the last thing to finish the whole truck off.

    I think you have always come across as a genuine honest guy Mike from the vids I have watched. Putting your hand up to say you made a mistake says a lot about your character my friend. Far too many people these days wouldn't. 👍 .

    I have a question can you get rock sliders for the gs02f komodo

    • @TheRCScotsman
      @TheRCScotsman  Год назад

      Not from Gmade. I've seen photos of someone running rock sliders on a GS02F Komodo (on a forum) and I asked which sliders they were. However, the poster did not know. I'll see what I can find out.

    What are your thoughts on shimming the diff gear and pinion to get better mesh and maybe using a grease like Hudy graphite grease

    • @TheRCScotsman
      @TheRCScotsman  11 месяцев назад

      Yes, absolutely a good idea. I found with my old GS02 (same axles), that I needed to shim the diff gear. These were a bit better, so I didn't do that. When I tried to shim these ones, they were too tight. It depends on how good your mesh is.

    I'm really glad you've found out what on earth the issue was with this truck. It must have been driving you nuts!!
    I really don't understand why anyone would use 'monkey metal' in something like a diff or gearbox, or anything where it gets put under any kind of hard wear!! Unless it as a weak point?!! 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @thewaycook3994
    @thewaycook3994 9 месяцев назад +1

    I called GMade corporate after changing my fourth diff gear out and they basically told me there’s absolutely nothing wrong with their gears and not a single person except me has complained. I asked why are your 33t bevel gears constantly sold out? They said I do not know anything about that there’s nothing wrong with our product. This is the last time I’ll ever buy a product from GMade.

    • @TheRCScotsman
      @TheRCScotsman  9 месяцев назад

      Wow, that's very poor! I don't blame you for your decision. Doesn't fill me with confidence about the "hardened gears are coming" talk. Thanks for sharing.

  • @thewaycook3994
    @thewaycook3994 Год назад

    If you run any kind of wheel weights with the stock overdrive it will absolutely shred the bevel gears after 1 or 2 runs.

    • @TheRCScotsman
      @TheRCScotsman  Год назад

      But it shouldn't. My brother-in-law's Enduro runs massive heavy wheels and full overdrive, without issue.

  • @Kburn1985
    @Kburn1985 Год назад +1

    Honestly, this has put me off the truck completely. Bevel gears just makes me nervous about pushing it too hard, while your regular trx4 or scx10 you can abuse it and not worry. 2 speed isn't that useful for brushless crawling, but is the difference between clearing a problem for brushed cars that need some speed or momentum

    • @TheRCScotsman
      @TheRCScotsman  Год назад

      It's a problem, for sure. No point in hiding it!
