The best part was that someone finally stacked the SS with a Tube Screamer in a demo! To me, that’s when the SS and other Vetrtex pedals, really comes to life and shine. I almost always play them stacked and use the volume and tone knobs on my guitar to control increase or reduce the amount of saturation. The Steel String has stacked well with every pedal I’ve paired it with. Great demo.
I think I saw the same video and thought "Oh yeah, that nailed it!" Another bonus with the SSS is that it provides the dynamic of the compression Gilmour used to give the mids more focus and still let the "clean" mix and shine with the grit of his tube driver. The same dynamic can be heard at points in this video also.
First time watching and listening to one of your videos. Really enjoyed it! I forgot I was here to listen to the pedal and was just enjoying your playing. This is tirst time Ive heard a pedal do the sounds in my head without requiring a bunch of gear. Thanks!!!
I have the original one. Wouldnt trade it unless i was offered the original amp. One thing I would advise people thinking about buying this pedal is that it only shines when you play your amp loud. You need an amp with a ton of head room. people say it does nthing but a clean boost. they're wrong. It's one of the most dynamic pedals ive played. Once again you need a loud amp to take full advantage of the pedal. Great video.
Just one point of mention, Buddy Blues. I believe the output knob is actually the input gain. I asked Mason about this and he confirmed. But I could be wrong.
Patrick you assume that I am a man that reads the manual when he gets things. I am not, I am the man that has to explain to his wife why her parents fell off of the IKEA chair I built on thanksgiving.

@@BuddyBlues In what kind of UAD software did you load the Celestion V430 cab IR in?? Also can you please post the link of this video from your Instagram, as I am having difficulty finding it on there. Thanks!
@@BuddyBlues Great play, I'm impress. Do you think it will work at low volumes? Unfortunately, I can't get my Princeton above 3. Does it make sense to buy it or is it suitable only with a cranked amp?
I'm trying my hardest to like this pedal. I mean I am really really trying. I want to like this pedal, I want to love this pedal, but either it doesn't love me back or I'm just not running it right. I have run it solo to a Fender Supersonic 22, I have run it in front of a Klon, TS808 and Blues Driver through the Supersonic. I also have ran it through a lot of variations as its own FX loop through my Helix, from the helix to the supersonic in a number of ways, from the helix to a Powercab 212 running through a plethora of IR's including the free IR's Vertex has specifically for this pedal on one of these SSS videos. Also, through the Helix to headphones... and to headphones A LOT, because I got chirrens and a wife who looks at my guitars and gear like a live in mistress. Respectfully to you and Vertex, It's just not doing it for me to be as brutally honest as I can. I havent given up, Im about to go at it again in a few minutes. But, I mean... I have some great downloaded, downloaded and modified, and personally built "JM" and "SRV" presets.. where I thought this would make angels appear in the room with this addition. Well, it definitely doesnt help those presets at all, and I can see where that's reasonable, because they were created for that end result already. So just popping that in.. yeah.. it didnt work, but thats almost expected. So running a PRS Silver Sky 2020, a 2020 Fender American Performer Strat, a Charvel Socal Type 1 HH, and a 2020 Fender American Original 1960's Reissue - all through a Fender Tube amp all react similarly. Just imagine plugging a strat straight into your favorite Fender tube amp. Dialing everything in to where you have a perfect strat sound. You are to all of the sudden pressing a button that sounds like I flipped to the bridge pickup, turned my bass all the way down, cut mids in half and 2x'ed the treble and brought in some feedback (aka noise). Imagine that sound was then video recorded on the first iphone in existence, then put on a cassette tape and played that through either headphones or heard it on a radio with an antenna as it was being broadcasted through a local am channel. Then when searching for answers on better set ups I got ran over by an omnibus of hate for the Vertex dude. I will say though, when I played a PRS Custom 24 through it, it DID bring out more of a strat sound that I had tried to get out of a helix alone for a long time.. until I bought a strat, and now have 2, a SS and a Charvel... Anyway, I hope you do genuinely like it Buddy, cause I am a big fan and it sounds good how you are running it. How are you getting your amp sounds onto youtube? A mic to a mixer to your computer?
Hi Rob! It really doesn't sound like we are talking about the same pedal.. I wonder if yours is for any reason defective. Did you try copying my exact settings? The one from the thumbnail of the video? I recorded all my guitars in the beginning of the channel with a condensor microphone in front of the cab and to the interface direct. I now use the Universal Audio OX box which you plug your amp into and from the ox to the interface direct. Do you have instagram? If you do DM me let's solve this together.
@@BuddyBlues I really appreciate your response buddy. First things first, your thumbnail settings ARE the best sound I have gotten out of it. I went back to it individually. One thing I had going wrong was my power supply. I had it at the end of a daisy chain even when testing solo. Power requirements etc are new to me. I played electric from elementary to high school never having anything more than a single cheap multi effects pedal of the day, BUT I DID OWN A KLON a salesmen at this place I got my first guitar (Squire) called Venamens Music in Alexandria (now burned down).. sorry.. squirrel!! Anyway, with that I have it working, I do like your settings and will keep playing with it as it’s definitely a pedal where small increments in all areas lead to a bigger tone shape. I feel like it’s good if you have less than ideal equipment or want “JM in a box” with an amp that is nowhere on the spectrum to begin with. I think my clean tone straight from my Fender Supersonic 22 tube amp is great, and this somewhat throws an unnecessary wrench into something that didn’t need much work to begin with. It was honestly like a clean boost that was too clean. Appreciate you buddy!

Thank you! Yes I have already! If you have instagram you can see me do that on the second most recent video. I went Guitar>SSS Pedal> Direct into my Universal Audio Apollo and loaded it with a 2x12 Celestion V30 cab.
@@BuddyBlues sounds epic!! I saw the post and started following you on IG as well!
@@BuddyBlues In what kind of UAD software did you load the Celestion V430 cab IR in?? Also can you please post the link of this video from your Instagram, as I am having difficulty finding it on there. Thanks!
Holy guacamole :) with fries. Fabulous playing.
Thank you so much! I've never had fries with guacamole. I am not opposed to trying new things
I have a problem too LOLLLL love that
Yup!
All I have is a Princeton reverb RI. Think the pedal will be good into that?
My God yes. I LOVE those Princeton reverbs RI. The pedal in front of it would sound killer!
@@BuddyBlues I subscribed earlier...thanks for the reply I think I will order one!
@@BuddyBlues Great play, I'm impress. Do you think it will work at low volumes? Unfortunately, I can't get my Princeton above 3. Does it make sense to buy it or is it suitable only with a cranked amp?
What song does he play around 10:10, that progression was so beautiful
If I ain't got you by Alicia Keys!! Love that song so much
Thanks
Thank you!
So could I use this to plug straight into a PA system and use this as my portable amp?
OK ao it works good for direct, how does it work with a classic tube amp, say Fender Twin or something like that.
I had it plugged into a tube amp, fender super sonic which is a deluxe reverb platform, that's what you heard
Let’s say besides a ts you have a higher gain pedal like an ocd, would you place it before or after the sss?
🤙🏽
Before!
I have a 1981 DRV before the SSS that's gain heaven
@@BuddyBlues thanks Buddy! I was wondering how it would respond to a higer gain, I would try it before as well, you’ve solved it! Amazing video!
Hey buddy! Killer playing! Is the SSS at the very end of your entire pedalboard or just at the end of the OD signal??
The very last pedal on the board! I want it to be "my amp".
@@BuddyBlues thanks buddy!! Keep rocking!!!!
You're welcome and thank you!
@@BuddyBlues even after the effect loop?
