The song is about an overprotective mother that badly affected her son, a rock star called Pink, in later years. She is but one of the many bricks in the wall that he built around himself. Do yourself a favour and listen to the entire The Wall album...it is a masterpiece.
This one of many from a Rock Opera call, "The Wall." This is an overly protective mother who will let her son grow up properly. In the play, he is going to become a HEAD CASE with no feeling for anyone. At the end the play, he is going to be on trial for his life and guess who shows up still calling him her baby. Asking the judge, "please let me take him home"
This song is quite evident that it is about a suffocating and overprotective mother, a rather negative figure who hangs like a shadow over her son's life and choices, preventing him from becoming a strong and self-aware man. The reason is clear: she lost her husband in the war and towards her son he pours her care and attention in a morbid way for fear of losing him too. While not directly referring to Roger Waters' mother, who did indeed lose his father in World War II in the landing at Anzio, Italy, the entire record "The Wall" is ultimately an anti-war work lest the children grow up without a father. Indeed, as someone said: "The function of fathers is to prevent mothers from driving their children crazy." To become a man, the child will have to free himself from all these fears and insecurities and break down the very high wall that he has built around himself. Happy New Year from Milan, Italy
@@VictoriaEjekwu great reaction this is my personal favorite Pink Floyd song and this version because David's guiter solo is longer and it brings tears to my eyes. So powerful....subbedl
Definitely hit up the album Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon But if you can't do the entire thing then I guess the most widely successful track would be " Money" Great Guitar and Sax solo's 😉
Hi, nice to see a young person discovering The Pink Floyd. You are definitely on a start of a journey into musical pleasure. Try listening to the albums ANIMALS, WISH YOU WERE HERE, OBSCURED BY CLOUDS, DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, THE FINAL CUT, and MEDDLE. You will find many gems and the music I listened to in my youth. Been to many concerts but a Floyd concert is better than all the concerts I have been to. Sadly those days have gone and all I can say is the youth of today have missed out on the greatest show on Earth. All the best.
Absolute Magic! What a GREAT song! And think about how great this sound quality is in a recorded live performance in the 1970's.....brilliant!
