    Thank you Dave for a very well presented video and everyone’s comments and debate. Over the last week it’s been interesting for me to view the range of comments and debate and offer some replies. Comparing Vielo to other brands posted here: I will let you make your mind up and choose what is suitable for you and your type of riding. I can present how and why we do our thing. Price: Always a point for debate and comment. Especially with the current global oversupply of stock and brands trying to clear their inventory. There will always be somebody trying to sell cheaper. Since Vielo moved to consumer direct, we are in a similar ball park to other consumer direct price if you compare spec for spec. But I know our customer service, including bike fitting is far beyond what other consumer direct brands offer. UDH: Right now, there are still updates from Shimano for their standard of rear mech fittings. We are finalising these details, before we commit to a system that will accommodate all types of rear mech fitting for the future. Our goal is to have these details finalised soon, test the system and roll out on our frames middle of 2025, subject to any other industry standards changes. Have a great weekend and keep tapping it out.

    A note about those Terra Hardpack 50mm tyres. They're not strictly 50mm, in my opinion.
    I ran them on 25mm internal 650b rims, the sidewall carcass is 50mm at it's widest point but the actual tread around the perimeter measures around 47mm.
    The result, if running at low pressures, the sidewall is in regular contact with the ground, either side of the 47mm tread.

    I switched back to my hardtail MTB after 1 year of riding my gravel bike (Diverge). I really enjoy the Diverge, but it really is more for smooth gravel along rivers and parks. The 80-100mm front suspension is really the game changer here for rough gravel and roots. Of course, lower tire pressure on a gravel bike is said to be equivalent, but... it isn't! It's making the bike far slower. My new project now is a monster gravel with 80mm Rockshox on the front and drop bars. That should be a real game changer. And mountainbikes are really cheap these days as everyone is selling them to buy a gravel bike.

    Good on you if you live close enough to plenty of gravel paths, have space for multiple road inspired bikes, don't have the desire to race or go fast, or have the disposable income for such a niche segment. But for most people, the vast majority of our time is spent on roads, while barely being able to justify these large purchases.
    I'm convinced that the "gravel bike" segment was created solely to convince cyclists that they had to have big ol wheels , and that their forever bike isn't good enough.Much like the mountain bike craze of the 90s.
    As a kid, I just had to have a mountain bike. Never took the bike off road once. I would've been better off with a single speed bike back then.

    I'm a little skeptical of the "bigger is better" tire trend for gravel racing; perhaps for adventure riding it is more intuitive. I was new to gravelI in 2023, so before deciding on how to spend a lot of money, I decided to experiment a bit. I started by fitting 2.2 Race Kings on an old cross country frame fitted with drop bars. On gravel trails/roads in my area, it was like riding on pillows, but the wheels felt way too heavy and overkill 90% of the time. This season I will be trying the 40c Challenge Strada Bianca tubeless tubulars. The wheels are half the weight. With no rim flanges or inner tubes, I can run super low CX pressures (< 20 psi) on the really rough stuff with no risk of air loss. Using sealant and plugs instead of an inner tube in a tubular is long overdue......

      I came to the conclusion that on the gravel roads I ride (varied, but some are excellent) at the speed I ride, that 700x45mm were not wide enough and was slowing me down. I had to often slow down due the road being too rough, or look for ways of avoiding the obstacle. Changing to 650x2.2 in the same frame (Open WI.DE) has been great. More compliance and less care needed at higher speeds. Feelings are not data, but I struggle to see where I am slower.

    • @Ms112464
      @Ms112464 4 часа назад

      I'm here and watching this video because I want to drop my TerraSpeed 40 and try anything more fat like 47-50 tires. Those 40 are for 2.5bars minimal pressure which is waaay too much for real gravel roads.
      I use those 2.2 RaceKings on my MTB, they are very soft, so you have to put in 3.0 or more bars for hardpack to not waste a lot of your power into tires bouncing. But it's up to you to balance speed and comfort with those tires just by adding a bit more pressure. You can't do anything with 40 tires, which are making you terrible slow on rough terrain.
      I think something like 50 mentioned in this video is a great compromise, just enough for a gravel. But tire manufacturers seem to ignore this size.

    • @mpvsystems9302
      @mpvsystems9302 2 часа назад

      @@Ms112464 RaceKing 2.0s should measure very close to 50mm on a gravel rim. Why not give them a try? At least 60+% of my gravel riding in on dykes or well maintained gravel roads. The dykes have a surface of very fine gravel and clay so they are close to tarmac in hardness. They do get potholes as the winter wears on but I am finding so far that both my CX bike and gravel bike with the Challenge Strada Bianca 40mm tubeless tubulars (which can handle 25 psi if necessary) are noticeably faster than my RaceKing 2.2 wheels on these surfaces. My racing experience has been road and CX (no XC), so it hard to give up the handling and feel of light wheels. I may have to resort to the converted XC bike with RKs for the super rough stuff but I'm not there yet.

    Why would someone need 45mm on a Gravel Bike?
    I cant imagine that 45mm on any sort of fastish pavement is fun or did tires evovle so much in the last decades?
    And a sporty trekking bike beats them all anyway in my opinion.

      t’s a Gravel bike - you ride it on gravel, not pavement

      @@Tom-hp4bq and why do you need 45mm for gravel? its still a fast pavement

      I ride 50mm Pirelli Cinturato H tyres on my gravel rig..
      It absolutely rips on gravel and is no slouch on the tarmac with a few more PSI in, either.
      Single bike for both with no huge compromise for either genre, for the speed I ride.

      @@jamesmedlow tires improved that much? thats impressive
      the wider tires i have are all super slow on anything remotely flat but they are also all very old:D
      i personally go offroad with my old steel bike and 23mm tires at 75psi or smtg like that it does ride suprisingly smooth and is a lot of fun but i also dont go fast on the descends

      Tires definitely improved.
      I think it is fair to say tire improvements in general have outpaced frame/wheel advancements, but big tires in particular have gotten a lot of improvements.
