In this just-released video, the viewer is invited to experience Erin Hanson’s Open Impressionism through behind-the-scenes footage, personal interviews, and a special adventure into the California coast with the artist herself.
Hanson says, “I think it’s important that there be a contemporary art style that’s about beauty… And I look at a landscape almost like a multi-faceted jewel that I’m trying to capture.”

I really cried. I'm trying to became an artist, it's my biggest dream, the thing I want to do. Your art makes me breath, makes me feel what you paint in my hands. I don't know how to explain it...
lin nihil honestly never give up. If you know you want it. I grew up not even being able to draw a stick figure. Realized I fell in love with art at the age of 17 and worked so hard learning to draw and reading art books everyday I had a sketchbook on me. I knew I wanted to go to art school instead of state college. I got into one of the most prestigious art schools in America. I’m 20 now and still am a full time artist.

Love your art! I'm from the east coast and fell in love the California coastline on vacation. When I tried to find artwork to transport me back to that time I came across your paintings and that was it!!
While Erin's work is wonderful, the idea of "open" impressionism is certainly nothing new. Tom Thomson, a Canadian painter back in the early part of the 20th century, painted pretty much exactly like this 100+ years ago. Have a look at his The Jack Pine, painted in 1916-17 (and many of this other paintings) and you will see exactly what I mean. This may be new to non-Canadian art students and collectors, it certainly is not to most Canadians. But, I do not want to take anything away from Erin - she's an amazing painter and doing what she does is not easy and she deserves all the success she's received.
Love it, Erin! You're capturing all my favorite places, and in such a way that speaks to my heart and soul, like Vincent, Monet, Cézanne and Matisse have. Wish I found you earlier so I could afford one of your originals. Bravo, sister!

Yes, I completely agree, Erin Hanson can go toe to toe with van Gogh or Monet. A real modern master.
There's a lot of Van Gogh in her paintings, more so than Impressionism, imo.
I see Vincent Van Gogh’s style, but I still think her work is beautiful. I also like to paint in patchy colors and it is very much on the pulse of the moment.

as a matter of fact, the "impressionist" denomination is utterly ridiculous for a highly stylized painting manner like Miss Hanson, cultivating strong contours and decorative distribution of color masses... but, no matter how it's called, Miss Hanson's paintings deserve admiration...

‘Toe to toe with Monet’ while referencing a photo from her phone. I cringe.
Beautiful, awe inspiring images honestly crafted BUT... the Holywoodification of the film grates... the insistent score, the saccharine sycophancy and vapid, maupish glorification of the painter by industry fan boys and girls leaves a cloying sensation in the digestive tract. A bit more honesty about the craft and a lot less fabrication of the narrative please. Let the paintings speak for themselves; let the process speak the truth.
