This movie gave me a phobia of skulls and skeletons that lasted until the end of my teenhood. Now, as an adult artist, I draw horror themed art.

I saw this movie in theaters when I was a kid. The martians gave me nightmares for YEARS lol then I got older and today I actually love it

As a kid I had no idea it was meant to be a comedy and thought it was just a horror, the alien designs are one of the creepiest of any film.
I remember my grandparents having a VHS of it and thinking it was gonna give me nightmares
Then one day my grandma and I actually watched it and I was bored out of my mind.
That scene where Lisa Marie's character bites off Short's finger freeeeeaked me out a child lol

This is just a masterpiece from the great Danny elfman!, the movie is one of my favorites!
While teaching "Music in Film," I started listening to the different music from different composers. I never realized the influence that Bernard Herrmann had on Danny Elfman. I knew Elfman was inspired by his score for "The Day The Earth Stood Still," but I never realized just how much. Listen to "Prelude/Outer Space" in TDTESS and then listen to this. Very cool...kind of a "passing of the torch."

So glad to have recently got this magnificent score by Danny elfman on CD. I always considered it to be among Danny's best work along with the scores to the first 2 Batmans with Michael keaton!
It's not just influence - It's a direct homage. The movie itself is a huge love letter to the sci-fi b-flicks of the 1950-1960s. So Elfman had to reflect it in his music - and he did.
You can recognise Elfman music a mile away!
Looking back. The 90s is one of the greeatest times to be a kid. You get to watch one of the most iconic movies that is still being used right now :)
I think this is seriously underrated. It's up there with the Trade Federation march from Star Wars. It's really good and nobody talks about it.

I love how this alien-invasion-themed music tune for the live-action movie Mars Attacks manages to be so goofy and intimidating simultaneously.
Traumatized the heck out me but now I wish there was a remake. And it was accurate to the cards

@@user-nw3qf4xf2eOh absolutely. Dark humor is the concept of making light of a serious subject matter or situation.
Good example off the top of my head in this movie: The Martian Ambassador and its bodyguards kills the entirety of congress on live television in a gruesome fashion. Mass Murder in graphic display. Everyone is reacting in disgust and horror to this massacre. Meanwhile Natalie Portman dryly says, "Guess it wasn't the dove" and an old lady in a nursing home points at the tv, yells out "They blew up congress!" and bursts out laughing.
It's making light of the entire situation, and makes what would normally be considered a gruesome scene actually quite funny. That's dark humor, and Mars Attacks is full of situations like that.

They're an icon trio. There's nothing wrong with any of them. Burton's best films are the ones that have both Depp and Carter in it.
