Cut-Rate Commander - Precon Upgrade Guide for the Fae Dominion Precon & its face commander - Tegwyll, Duke of Splendor. #mtg #edh #commander #mtgwoe
It looks like we're back on Eldraine and the Fae, led by the fabulous noble Tegwyll, are ready to combat against the living nightmares plaguing their plane - and are all to eager to show our opponents that, despite their size, their aerial superiority is a force to be reckoned with.
In this upgrade, we’ll be aiming to beef up the already solid amount of faeries included in the base build with even more powerful specimens to be empowered by and generate value via our commander, add in even more tribal ways to empower and generate value off of our tribe, and then leaning into the fact that our entire tribe consists of fliers by adding in some flying matters payoffs to further cement our tribes aerial supremacy, which when coupled with our builds ability to drop a significant portion of its creature base and spells on our opponents turn, will leave our ground bound opponents in the dust.

I would add kindred discovery and dictate of erebos, too. Throw out illusionists gambit and the useless spellscorn coven.

As someone who is but a simple Boros player, would you consider making separate lists of your cuts and adds? I really like the way you modify your builds, but I often try to use cards I have on hand, and getting a feel for what cards you feel are good to cut is really handy!

i'd really like to see you work with the secondary commander option. that seems fun.
Just bought the new deck as I needed practice with it before our shop's next precon league, didn't realize the deck was this strong without any add-ons already, Talion not being part of it basic is a shame, drafter 1 of them and a second in win pack Friday, and immediately wanted him in both decks.
It's so odd my Precon doesn't have some the cards you mentioned. Guess I get to find the keepers in the collection

Picked up Bitterblossom for this deck when it's price dropped due to recent reprint.
I know this maybe and older deck but I was curious if you could do wyleth? I like playing him I just can’t figure out good upgrades for him! Please
to remind Bitterblossom is a reprint on the "enchanting tales" list so we do have a chance right now to get it while cheap

any plans for a Osgir precon upgrade?
Oh man some of these cards SPIKED in the past month. Great vid still as it breaks down the reasoning so you can locate cheaper cards with similar effects where possible.
The 2nd commander in the deck is way more fun to play and build around.
Yeah, I would say that Alela, Cunning Conqueror definitely allows for more create deckbuilding than Tegwyll since flash tribal is a less restrictive than faerie tribal. I should be able to put her and the other alternate commander from Value and Virtue in an upcoming poll however, so if you want to see me build around her, stay tuned for that to vote.
This is an awesome upgrade video, I’m building a Faerie deck as a present for my little sister and this is gonna be super helpful!
On a different note, do you think Illusionists’s Gambit would be good for a Firkraag deck? At first glance it looks great but I’d love to know what you think

What do you think about changing the commander to alela?
For this precon specifially, I would say that Tegwyll has more tools out of the box. That said, Alela us a very fun build around for a flash speed matters build, so I can see building her from scratch (since upgrading the precon to optimize her playstyle will require a few too many changes).
Obyra is where it's at; damage outside of combat and consistent 2 drop to increase the effectiveness of cards like Feywild Visitors, Talion's Messenger, Nettling Nuisance, Faerie Bladecrafter, Bident of Thassa, Coastal Piracy, Reconnaissance Mission and Alela.
Tegwyll is decent, but not aggressive enough for all the above attack/damage triggers, especially with the lack of good 2cmc and less tribe members. The archetype and colors also already have access to plenty of card draw. Tegwyll best in the 99 imo.
Alela is too clunky at 4cmc without flash to at least get a trigger off before she dies and without a lot of good 2cmc and less Faeries to enable goading early. With Obyra at the helm, and dropped on turn 2, Alela becomes a much more appealing turn 4 play. She's also better in the 99 imo.
Does Feywild Visitor make 3 tokens if you hit 3 opponents in 1 combat?
That is correct - it will trigger once per player we hit per turn to create up to 3 tribal bodies for us per turn.
Did you not consider building around the new Alela? I think it can make the deck much more fun!
For the precon upgrades, I will build around the face commander - but I will give the alternate commanders for both precons an opportunity at the polls for folks to vote for if they want to see a build featuring them instead.

My problem was I couldnt get enough mana
I already have an Alela, Artful Provocateur deck so I upgraded that Enchantment themed deck with cards from this Precon. I may build another deck around the new Alela since I have so many extra Faerie cards now. 😂 (BTW, just some constructive criticism: I find your synthesized voice very hard to listen to for any length of time.)

Sorry about that. I have a very naturally mono-tone voice, so if I record normally it tends to be VERY droning, which is why I try to put more inflection when record.
