I tell my dudes the urban environment is a 3D threat environment, and by that I mean threats will come from literally anywhere. Snipers are a huge issue and are tricky to deal with in a MOUT environment, you'd have to have civilians in consideration and of course, IED threats/indicators along with complex ambushes as well

As a combat veteran of OEF, who has served with the 1141'st Sappers in Salerno, Afghanistan doing CIED Route Clearance as a 19D Cavalry Scout for 11 months I can tell you this is not realistic at all... A realistic war game would be you sitting inside an MRAP for 8 hours straight until someone shoots at you or blows up a bomb then everyone runs away after 10 seconds. Or when you detain someone and they literally shit themselves in the back of your buffalo on purpose just to spite you on your 5 MPH trip back home for 6 hours smelling his shit. The a1 has a s-1-f trigger group whereas your run of the mill m4(the one the army and marines are using to replace the m16a2 and the a4) has a s-1-3 trigger group. Realistic? When i am holding a rifle and i turn with it in real life.. That rifle is still stable in my arms. In insurgency when you turn the mouse the rifle waves all around in your arms like your arms are made of rubber.. And when you fire the bullet goes like up into the air knocking off the ceiling fan.. The fact that these developers think you HAVE to use iron sights to fire a gun with remote-accuracy is incorrect. Soldiers are trained in point-shooting which means they do not always engage the iron sights in all situations and i personally can shoot a quarter right in the center without using iron sights

If I remember correctly in Red Orchestra you Sprint around to get to the objective on time Spray and pray in close quarters with a god damn low recoil MG34 or more recently the literally recoil absent MG42 Shoot and strafe because you shouldn't stop moving while you're attacking And crawl up the wazooo because there's no bloody cover in maps like Fallen Fighters Even though Red Orchestra does have some form of realism, you can still run around like Rambo with a LMG shreking scrubs for the glory of the fatherland or running around with a PPSH for mother Russia. I have 200 Hours or so in Red Orchestra 2 playing only realistic and a bit in the older games and I have to say this is just Red Orchestra minus the bleeding system
I don't know what kind of RO you've played, but sprinting around gets you killed 90% of the time. if you get to CQB with an MG, your team is probably loosing the round because they lack a decent MG. if you shoot and strafe you either an idiot or you happen to be an assault trooper, in which case that's what you do in CQB, not over 50 meters. Fallen fighters IMO is a great map exactly for the reason of minimal cover, which requires excellent squad leader that know how and when to use smoke, good MG's to keep the enemy supressed an good marksman or tank, otherwise everyone is just ducks running around in a field. people running around with SMG's or MG's to raise their weapon XP is exactly what ruines the game, and TWI is to blame for the aweful ranking system. but seriously? you even compare this game to RO? not by a long shot. And I'm not even speaking of the older red orchestra, that game was a piece of art by my standards. (off topic, but the bleeding system "press button to stop bleeding" sucks imo)
RS and RO are extremely annoying FPS games. All people do in that game is camp and snipe for the most part and every single casualty is from an unknown source. It would be better if it was more like Insurgency. Insurgency takes a lot more skill. Not only that, the loading times in RO/RS is just ridiculous. Insurgency feels much more realistic, and takes more REAL skill as everyone isn't just camping and sniping.
Varas Karn lol wtf are you talking about? RO2 and Insurgency play extremely similarly. The only difference is with Insurgency, your rifles are semi-automatic: you can keep firing shot after shot. In RO2, they're bolt action. This makes it impossible for one person to take out a squad unless they are in a good position and are unseen by the enemy. RO2 demands more skill and patience than Insurgency. In Insurgency I was able to take a control point by myself. In RO2, it is impossible. Teamwork is required. In short: out of the two, Insurgency is a bit more arcadey and emphasizes kills over territory but it's great for less-hardcore players. RO2 is a bit more realistic but would not appeal to casual gamers unless they are history fanatics. Arma 3 blows both games out of the water with realism but even so, the shooting mechanics in Arma 3 feels off. It doesn't have the impact that Insurgency and RO2 has.
***** The CONTROLS in RO/RS are absolute shit, and the game is optimized POORLY. Insurgency runs like a charm, the controls are 100 x more responsive, and the game is overall way more interesting. You were just lucky in taking that control point alone, that rarely happens. Insurgency is heavily team based. Fuck RO. More skill and patience my ass. Insurgency is much more realistic in terms of not feeling like you are controlling a turtle (..RO/RS).

Tre Arnsparger the game is realistic. its way more realistic then say, CoD or battlefield in the sense of combat, movement, physics, particles, and etc. The only reason arma is more realistic is the graphics, open world, and a few other gameplay mechanics like weather, a few extra coding lines to allow you to salute XD (dont get me wrong i love arma and insurgency :P)

The way guns work and their damage models are realistic. The way he portrays them are not? What does Arma have? Buggy physics , large maps filled with nothing, shit animations jerky movement, and desync . Arma= A simulator. Insurgency= Fun game with realistic gun play.

Well he's new to the game, give him a break. I did that too when i was new, then i learn you could switch to semi-auto. He will learn with time, but the game is still realistic and awesome, and it will reward people that play like in real life and that my friend is just awesome !

+SpecialJ11 what are you talking about? it has vehicles, ai units you can use with voice commands, fatigue, realistic bullet physics, and realistic damage like breaking legs and the need for different treatments depending on damage. it's also has the biggest fps maps and a huge community run mod system so it gets better all the time. there are even modded versions like arma 3 exil (zombies), battle royal and arma life maps that are community run rpg's with cops, mercs, prisons and an assortment of jobs that are all run by actual players not npcs. these guys take it very, very seriously too. they have a screaning system and everything to ensure people stay in character as well as ways of managing it like gun licenses and such. just check out frankieonpc1080p's arma life videos. it get really intense. the only thing that can top this game will probably be starcitizen. if they ever finish it...

maybe hes burst firing on his own. plus, it allows you to get a better look who is where instead of emptying your magazine in a few seconds. every bullet counts afterall.
Mindy Auron I'm saying that he has his weapon set to full auto which is clear. No soldier in the field actually used full auto unless they are keeping the enemies head down or firing from a roosted or mounted machine gun. Full auto is the most inaccurate fire setting on any assult rifle's selector switch so you are trained to use it at certain times only. It is useful at CQC. Proper training would be something like to aim for the chest and fire two rounds semi auto or if being attacked where you have to make sure they go down two rounds center mass and one to the head or a double tap (two to the head). It really depends on your branch, M.O.S. or whether you are Marines, Seals, Rangers or infantry how you are trained to take a target down.
Things that are considered realistic in the game: 1. The annoying dust clouds which covers your FOV for a short period of time. 2. The FACT that when you get shot at a few times, YOU DIE. 3. The recoil of the guns in the game.

first person shooters are as unrealistic as games come. you cant do a 360 degree spin in 0.01 seconds in reality. and a single stab wound doesnt immediately kill every enemy. was never a fan of 1st persons. just my opinion tho.

william carson I have no idea who told you that buddy, but I can guarantee you every m4 I've ever seen is a select fire weapon. The a1 has a s-1-f trigger group whereas your run of the mill m4(the one the army and marines are using to replace the m16a2 and the a4) has a s-1-3 trigger group.

Realistic? When i am holding a rifle and i turn with it in real life.. That rifle is still stable in my arms. In insurgency when you turn the mouse the rifle waves all around in your arms like your arms are made of rubber.. And when you fire the bullet goes like up into the air knocking off the ceiling fan..
The fact that these developers think you HAVE to use iron sights to fire a gun with remote-accuracy is incorrect. Soldiers are trained in point-shooting which means they do not always engage the iron sights in all situations and i personally can shoot a quarter right in the center without using iron sights

Shoot and strafe because you shouldn't stop moving while you're attacking
And crawl up the wazooo because there's no bloody cover in maps like Fallen Fighters
Even though Red Orchestra does have some form of realism, you can still run around like Rambo with a LMG shreking scrubs for the glory of the fatherland or running around with a PPSH for mother Russia.
I have 200 Hours or so in Red Orchestra 2 playing only realistic and a bit in the older games and I have to say this is just Red Orchestra minus the bleeding system
I don't know what kind of RO you've played, but sprinting around gets you killed 90% of the time. if you get to CQB with an MG, your team is probably loosing the round because they lack a decent MG. if you shoot and strafe you either an idiot or you happen to be an assault trooper, in which case that's what you do in CQB, not over 50 meters. Fallen fighters IMO is a great map exactly for the reason of minimal cover, which requires excellent squad leader that know how and when to use smoke, good MG's to keep the enemy supressed an good marksman or tank, otherwise everyone is just ducks running around in a field. people running around with SMG's or MG's to raise their weapon XP is exactly what ruines the game, and TWI is to blame for the aweful ranking system.
but seriously? you even compare this game to RO? not by a long shot. And I'm not even speaking of the older red orchestra, that game was a piece of art by my standards.

RS and RO are extremely annoying FPS games. All people do in that game is camp and snipe for the most part and every single casualty is from an unknown source. It would be better if it was more like Insurgency. Insurgency takes a lot more skill. Not only that, the loading times in RO/RS is just ridiculous. Insurgency feels much more realistic, and takes more REAL skill as everyone isn't just camping and sniping.
Varas Karn lol wtf are you talking about? RO2 and Insurgency play extremely similarly. The only difference is with Insurgency, your rifles are semi-automatic: you can keep firing shot after shot. In RO2, they're bolt action. This makes it impossible for one person to take out a squad unless they are in a good position and are unseen by the enemy. RO2 demands more skill and patience than Insurgency.
In Insurgency I was able to take a control point by myself. In RO2, it is impossible. Teamwork is required.
In short: out of the two, Insurgency is a bit more arcadey and emphasizes kills over territory but it's great for less-hardcore players. RO2 is a bit more realistic but would not appeal to casual gamers unless they are history fanatics.
Arma 3 blows both games out of the water with realism but even so, the shooting mechanics in Arma 3 feels off. It doesn't have the impact that Insurgency and RO2 has.
***** The CONTROLS in RO/RS are absolute shit, and the game is optimized POORLY. Insurgency runs like a charm, the controls are 100 x more responsive, and the game is overall way more interesting. You were just lucky in taking that control point alone, that rarely happens. Insurgency is heavily team based. Fuck RO. More skill and patience my ass. Insurgency is much more realistic in terms of not feeling like you are controlling a turtle (..RO/RS).

Tre Arnsparger the game is realistic. its way more realistic then say, CoD or battlefield in the sense of combat, movement, physics, particles, and etc. The only reason arma is more realistic is the graphics, open world, and a few other gameplay mechanics like weather, a few extra coding lines to allow you to salute XD (dont get me wrong i love arma and insurgency :P)

Well he's new to the game, give him a break. I did that too when i was new, then i learn you could switch to semi-auto. He will learn with time, but the game is still realistic and awesome, and it will reward people that play like in real life and that my friend is just awesome !

there are even modded versions like arma 3 exil (zombies), battle royal and arma life maps that are community run rpg's with cops, mercs, prisons and an assortment of jobs that are all run by actual players not npcs. these guys take it very, very seriously too. they have a screaning system and everything to ensure people stay in character as well as ways of managing it like gun licenses and such. just check out frankieonpc1080p's arma life videos. it get really intense. the only thing that can top this game will probably be starcitizen. if they ever finish it...

Mindy Auron I'm saying that he has his weapon set to full auto which is clear. No soldier in the field actually used full auto unless they are keeping the enemies head down or firing from a roosted or mounted machine gun. Full auto is the most inaccurate fire setting on any assult rifle's selector switch so you are trained to use it at certain times only. It is useful at CQC. Proper training would be something like to aim for the chest and fire two rounds semi auto or if being attacked where you have to make sure they go down two rounds center mass and one to the head or a double tap (two to the head). It really depends on your branch, M.O.S. or whether you are Marines, Seals, Rangers or infantry how you are trained to take a target down.

Although we have to agree, the arma 3 grenade physics are worse than any other game out there. Insurgency probably has the best grenade physics in a game

Not really. Do you actually think soldiers take out tanks by putting c4 on a jeep, and then rolling a tank to blow it up? Hell, you can even be stabbed in the neck with a knife and be revived by shock paddles. FUCKING SHOCK PADDLES. And I'm pretty sure just standing right next to a med kit won't heal you.
