I understand why everyone is saying, where is this game, where is that game. It's only focusing on the graphics. That's what all of you have to pay attention to. And I also know that the music wasn't the best of Choices for this video, but it's fits in perfectly with the old video games. And personally I think it's a great video and that there is nothing wrong with it.

Everyone's crying about the omission of Ocarina of Time, but am I the only one noticing the glaring omission of Donkey Kong Country and Star Fox? These were two landmark titles, one for its color and sprite fidelity, and the other for its very early use of polygonal 3D rendering. Ocarina of Time was actually pretty typical looking for its time, in the exception of very well produced cutscenes.

There were plenty of better looking games in the '70s, like Speed Race in 1974, Gun Fight in 1975, or Space Invaders in 1978. And in the '80s and '90s, arcade games dominated graphics during those two decades, yet the video focuses almost exclusively on PC and console games which were far inferior to arcade graphics back then. And most of the games picked for 2008-2013 don't look anywhere near as good as Crytek's games during that time. To demonstrate the evolution of graphics, it's necessary to show the graphical powerhouses of their time, not the mediocre graphics of their time.

Doom came on 93, and day of the tentacle had simple 2d graphics but cooler ones. Probably, the second place that year would be Sam & Max: Hit the road. Wolfstein came 1 year before and most of doom graphics were there. Another hard year would be 2008, when mirror's edge came and showed different graphics and no the usual ones.

The developers are terrible, they have a major update maybe once a year, but when I say "major" I mean they add a few new blocks and a different color of flower... Still, it can be fun with friends. Everyone can think of epic games bringing back certain incredible memories to each and every one of us that weren't included. For me; Mortal Combat, StarCraft, Donkey Kong Country, Grand Prix 2, Commandos, Halo, Crysis 3, the list goes on.... It's incredible how many games have been created and how many we have played! Now that I think of it I feel privilidged having lived through the gaming generation from the start. Great selection though!

I have a few problems for this video one of which is the title :Evolution of Video Game Graphics 1952 - 2015 I have nothing against the title but the description : This is all the best games from every year 1952-2015. If he is comparing video games then choosing World of tanks ffs, COD, The Division, Crysis (which for me was a forgettable game) to games like half-life which was groundbreaking when it first was released is ridiculous. just to add on to that if he's comparing the quality then where's the elder scrolls, Bioshock, Fable, Oddworld. Of course if he posted the video showcases games that had groundbreaking graphics then wheres mirrors edge or the Arkham Knight series. I'm not to sure which one is correct the title or the description but I know both makes the video flawed quite heavily.
+Ray parkinson He's not comparing games, he's comparing graphics. Yeah, the message is a bit confusing, but that's what he's comparing. CryEngine at the time of Crysis 1 and 2 was the lead AAA engine and innovator, IIRC it practically standardised SSAO which is the ambient occlusion method games use today (or they use a take on it called HBAO). At the time Crysis pulled leagues ahead in graphics. The Division (more so Snowdrop, it's engine, The Division far as I know has gotten a downgrade, what the video was showing was the power of Snowdrop) from what I've seen will be the next CryEngine in terms of lighting if it's lighting system is as good as I've seen (real-time global illumination that, from what I gather, isn't using hacky, low-quality methods, and high-quality volumetric particle lighting? Sign me up!). Half Life was groundbreaking in terms of what PCs could do at the time, but there's nothing Half Life has on other, newer games on the list. Elder Scrolls isn't a good option for graphics, Bethesda from what I've heard intentionally skimps on graphics to allow for the sheer depth of the world (hundreds of objects on screen each simulating their own physics at any given time). Bioshock, neither. Both series are great, but graphically they're not special. Bioshock uses UE3 which is frankly outdated now and it's age is showing, we've had UE4 for several years now and last I heard Kingdom Hearts 3 is meant to be using it, among many other games. The only notable Bioshock game would be Infinite's Burial at Sea DLCs, if they're still running on UE3 (which I'm almost certain they are), they did an excellent job at pushing UE3 to that level of graphical fidelity.
+jakemichie97 Not to mention Crytek SHIPPED their engine out with every copy of Crysis. I mean think of Battlefield 4 open sourcing the Frostbite 3 engine when you buy a game from them. Graphical leaps and bounds has to go to Crysis as it kicked the industry in the rear to start innovating.

Wow that last clip you put..I honestly hate comparing the graphics of a video game to real life because I feel like it's not necessary since immersion is there to heal the wound of knowing that a video game is simply that, a video game - but that last clip was so amazing. Yeah, I used to feel in the same way, but then i remeber that Ubisoft is the dev... at least they will take some more time on this, different of the ACs and another games unfinisheds or with a lot of bugs. If we get 'The Division' with 3/4 of the things that they're showing and without bugs, I'll start to feel this again.

HunteR I'd say that the revolution came in 97 and 98, Halo was just another 3D game at that time, I'm not saying it's a bad game, but it wasn't something revolutionary as Half life or Tomb raider, or even Wolfenstein that introduced what you could call one of the first 3D graphics non polygonal type, which influenced a LOT in that time

Now that I think of it I feel privilidged having lived through the gaming generation from the start. Great selection though!

I have a few problems for this video one of which is the title :Evolution of Video Game Graphics 1952 - 2015 I have nothing against the title but the description : This is all the best games from every year 1952-2015. If he is comparing video games then choosing World of tanks ffs, COD, The Division, Crysis (which for me was a forgettable game) to games like half-life which was groundbreaking when it first was released is ridiculous. just to add on to that if he's comparing the quality then where's the elder scrolls, Bioshock, Fable, Oddworld. Of course if he posted the video showcases games that had groundbreaking graphics then wheres mirrors edge or the Arkham Knight series. I'm not to sure which one is correct the title or the description but I know both makes the video flawed quite heavily.

+Ray parkinson He's not comparing games, he's comparing graphics. Yeah, the message is a bit confusing, but that's what he's comparing. CryEngine at the time of Crysis 1 and 2 was the lead AAA engine and innovator, IIRC it practically standardised SSAO which is the ambient occlusion method games use today (or they use a take on it called HBAO). At the time Crysis pulled leagues ahead in graphics.
The Division (more so Snowdrop, it's engine, The Division far as I know has gotten a downgrade, what the video was showing was the power of Snowdrop) from what I've seen will be the next CryEngine in terms of lighting if it's lighting system is as good as I've seen (real-time global illumination that, from what I gather, isn't using hacky, low-quality methods, and high-quality volumetric particle lighting? Sign me up!).
Half Life was groundbreaking in terms of what PCs could do at the time, but there's nothing Half Life has on other, newer games on the list. Elder Scrolls isn't a good option for graphics, Bethesda from what I've heard intentionally skimps on graphics to allow for the sheer depth of the world (hundreds of objects on screen each simulating their own physics at any given time). Bioshock, neither. Both series are great, but graphically they're not special. Bioshock uses UE3 which is frankly outdated now and it's age is showing, we've had UE4 for several years now and last I heard Kingdom Hearts 3 is meant to be using it, among many other games. The only notable Bioshock game would be Infinite's Burial at Sea DLCs, if they're still running on UE3 (which I'm almost certain they are), they did an excellent job at pushing UE3 to that level of graphical fidelity.

RE was way more important because they created a own genre called survival horror.
DOOM, which also isn't on this list but deserves a spot imo, is FPS/survival horror as well and from '93
+DJRoksor That was Alone in the Dark who started that genre, only it just wasn't called like that till RE came out. RE was the reason I bought a PSX :D

Contentious list of "best" games in this video, but regardless, graphics are so heavily dependent on hardware. With consoles driving the market, it's only natural that we get generational jumps.
Not going to be doing so from here on out, consoles are slowly dying out, and any and all xbox one releases from here on out will be on PC, and well sony, sony can go fuck itself..
