this is absolutely incredible, i never would have dared to make a flying vehicle in this game that only has a forward thruster and the rest is just controlled by a gyro
it is a very different way to fly its more like a helicopter than anything else but i made that ship for the expanse server where you can only have one direction of thrust
It's the most fun kind! You just need a hydrogen thruster a hydrogen tank a gyro and a small reactor and a controle seat! Cheap point a to point b! Rocket man!
Reference for people who don't know, when he's flying close to terrain and you see the blue light from the thrusters, that light only occurs when hes got about 3-5 meters of clearance. In other words, VERY close for something of that size and weight.
The aryx drive thrusters have slightly more range for the light its about 10 meters depending on which size the largest one has a light range of like 40 or 50 meters
Bro heard that Free Bird was scheduled on the radio later and decided to grab his spare ICBM, remove the warhead and in its place, wire in manual controls, and duck tape on a chair and radio for a fun afternoon
Holy shit man that was incredible. When you got into the ship i was thinking oh he's going to wait for the drop and yup you did! and your piloting is so fucking good!!! Clearly a master at the game.
This could actually break the one-thruster flying, because of how the speed limit works in SE. In SE, if you try to accelerate over 100 m/s, the magnitude of your velocity is reduced to under 100 m/s, but your thruster keeps accelerating your forward. This means an extremely powerful forward thruster(s) can actually override gravity and let you fly without upwards thrust. This kind of flying is certainly possible with a speed mod (I've done it around asteroids), but on a planet it becomes MUCH harder.
@@omninimbus006 that's right... vrage engine limitations and all that... really hope to see SE2 with that new vrage engine, maybe then we can actually go above 100m/s natively
@@kalskirata42 I've actually spoken with Jan Hloušek about that during a presentation they were doing. 300 m/s will be the default. Not only that but the way engine handles things will be more streamlined thanks to change from Object Oriented to Data Driven approach. The part that impressed me the most was fluid dynamics - while it looked like thick soup during presentation, the actual calculations are only done to the parts that are going through a change. This means that something like a river is not gonna set your computer on fire the moment you approach it.
@@ZethGamer so we're not gonna see anything crazy like natural terrain deformation from rivers? Got Guardians of the Galaxy vibes from this! I've contemplated making a mod with my favourite playlist now this has just made me want to do it now for real!
I will never understand the gutteral instinct to do some cool shit to that music, but I fuckin love it. Great vid and flying skills btw. Its hard for me to avoid crashing into asteroids in space so I can imagine how hard it must be to do all of that with a forward thruster and gyro.
Chief, you missed some of those rocks by what must've been *centimeters.* Respect. All of the respect. I haven't played Space Engineers in ages, but I'm pretty confident in how utterly ridiculous what you just did is.
One word. RAW. I got goosebumps when the solo went off, i like how you included the calm part of freebird, since I've never seen that before i was like "this is freebird?" And then "OH YEAH IT IS!"
Perfect Space Engineers video. The fruits of meticulous engineering in the first act, spectacular piloting in the second, all in a gorgeous setting. The latter being done purely with gyroscopics and one big thruster makes it all the more satisfying.
I've tried a few times to make a super fast, super maneuverable racer in Space Engineers. Apparently, all I needed to do was put one thruster in the back and be completely insane.
this video gives me the same feeling as jim from treasure planet dodging all the debris from when the planet exploding at the end of the film trying to open the portal to the space port at the beginning
Neighbors with a base in the canyon look up and see a rocket doing tricks: "I guess it's Freebird time, again."
lol

I made a ship like that when I got stuck. Works great to get to space and then dump

with how the speed limit works its actually pretty easy to fly, landing is where it gets tricky

tnx i had fun flying it
How many tries did it take before you got it right?!?!? Honestly man, great flying! @@toylegman3315
First of all, you actually managed to learn how to play Space Engineers.

Best game ever made, hands down. Even with the plethora of bugs..
while i agree its in the top 15.....have you ever played Batman: Arkham Knight?
Yes!
Those aren't bugs. They are the almighty Klang.
Only ASE and ASA can compete with the amount of bugs
Don’t you insult the great god Klang
No thrusters lifting it up. Just sheer force
Nice work. Love canyon flying in this game. Pertram is great for this.
i might do one thats on pertam at some point
😮Most people don't realize how difficult that was.
For real... Those who don't know are impressed. Those who know are picking their jaws up off the floor.

I love how there's absolutely no acceleration in a space physics simulation.
The game engine unfortunately has a hardcap on object velocity that can only be broken by weaponizing illegal physics operations.
Yeahhh, the engine is pretty limited. I heard they're making a second game in a different engine that'll be better suited though
