At 34:07, I think you missed collecting a power for playing Anna, which means you saved another map token for the end of the game, and adding that to the other points you would've gotten from the instances in the other comments, you definitely won this game and your celebration is warranted! :D (so yes nobody tell the woman in this video :D)
Great playthrough, Paula! Always remember not to let the Automa get too far ahead in any scoring category. And I concur with Old Kingtoes, the bear’s name is pronounced Voy-tek. It’s a common first name in Eastern Europe and Russia.
Paula truly has the best playthroughs. Just enough exposition, clear explanation of rules as well as her motivations and the automa motivation, never terribly verbose. I also appreciate that rules mistakes are exceedingly rare and always caught in post. Best part is her delightful attention to detail- nobody cosplays a boardgame like her! ❤
32:44 should only allow you to gain one of the benefits on an adjacent location (i.e., one of its icons), so you could either draw from the deck or rescue, but not both. I made this mistake a few times, on my first couple playthroughs before I caught it, too. Thanks so much for this awesome playthrough! Really great to see others enjoying solo play on these types of games!
Thanks Paula, always love watching you and Rodney. This makes it way easier for me to teach the guys. As i am sure when they the ironclad box on my shelf this is gonna hit the table. Love from the Netherlands
I normally don’t watch video tutorials, but I just bought the game and wasn’t in the mood to read through the rules. So you made it so I could play my new game with just a video. Also, the ending was 😂. Thanks much.
Paula! Great playthrough, really helped me get going and now I love playing Expeditions solo! I laughed so hard at your ending though 😂 you were so happy!
Thanks for covering the solo mode! I’m so sorry you didn’t actually win 😢 but nice work, you’ll get them next time! I’m so excited to play this now. SM always has some of the easiest to run solo modes around, and this looks no different. Awesome thematic outfit by the way! Haha
Stupendous videos. You moved the blue mech only one space late in game. You counted your space as one. It did not change game as they would not have gotten to your end spaces. But again amazing video. Who needs a rule book?
@PaulaDeming, another entertaining and informative video, thank you :-) Like many others, I played many many solo games during Covid times, and grew to appreciate the solo engine work done by Morten Pedersen and his Automa Factory. The high quality of.Morten’s work is reflected in the equally high quality of your video :-)
This is a great playthrough. I had no idea there were solo playthroughs on Watch it Played. Watching this makes the game much less intimidating. I love the beginning where you start with the end of Rodney’s video. Take that Rodney, no discovering on our own this time…muah ha ha ha
So, I think you may have **actually** tied, because when you took your last gather action, you upgraded, but there is also a purple worker AND a coin on the tile not separated by a line. So you would have also had 76.
@@PaulaDeming I think also on the turn before the end, you gathered to do your last boast, but you didn't take the copy an adjacent gather action, which would have gotten you yet another coin! I think there was also a handful of times you missed gaining guile, power, or card draws. So you deserve the win!
Perfect for those on the fence. I won't spoil the humour at the beginning :) What followed next was superb for helping me make a buying decision-and I won't spoil that either!
I bare-ly noticed the teddy mascot. Glad you pointed it out. Oh my goodness. That was a tough loss! So close! Hummm.... should I say it was grizzly? Nah, probably not. :-) Thanks for sharing.
argh jealous, i just came here to comment for interaction with the video i want to go in as blind as possible to this, it looks really good, can't wait for my preorder to show up
These are treated the same way as the multiplayer game (which means they have no end scoring rules), they do give you benefits while playing though. You'll find that covered in the full tutorial (which also has a table of contents, so you can go right to the section you're curious about, if that helps). -Rodney
It FEELS expensive to refresh but you have to get those cards back if you're going to be able to use them. The key is timing it to refresh when you don't have a better option available.
When you Sweep you can Sweep all of the five face up cards if you want. Also when you were moving to the Lair you should had gone to the map token and get it since it is far more useful to you. Also as you pointed out that you could do both actions when you boosted you miss that once before as well. You needed a few more cards so when solo playing spent a bit more time in the south and get those cards. Sure they go into your action area but when you refresh you will have a few more options available.
Looks like fun. Wojtek (VOI-TEK) is a famous bear here in Scotland (we have a statue dedicated to the hairy hero in Edinburgh) and well worth a google if you've never heard of him.
@@PaulaDeming It is a very safe bet to always pronounce the J as Y (as in "yes") when dealing with Slavic names and places. Especially southern/eastern ones. Can't say for central Europe though but I'd again bet on the Y :)

I'm a little late to the party but your very last action was to move and gather (1:03:58). I can't see properly but there isn't a slash there, right? On space 17? So you didn't give yourself that one coin which if anything would tie you with the Automa. Apologies if this was pointed out before. Don't know what happens if you tie with the Automa, though. It says it on the character card itself, actually! Other cards which have the “Solve” ability don’t include this text and therefore wouldn’t provide the additional value.
@@DzikJestDziki89 Keep in mind that rule book translations are not always accurate, and I can't account for that, but I can tell you that the way this was played here is correct, as are the English rules. You MUST perform the exposed fields "if you can". In this case, since Paula had not card to play, she couldn't, and therefore, didn't have to. Hope that helps!
