Hey guys I realize this is something people may be passionate about and by no means is my video the “end all be all” for this discussion. I simply did this for fun and because I love these games. I definitely missed titles and you may get upset at how I connect certain things. But please be positive and kind to each other. In other words… Chill. These are video games. 🎮
I love the idea that all these characters live within the same world. It makes everything feel so big and vast, like there are other islands we have yet to explore. I will note that DK JR. is actually the father of modern donkey Kong, and cranky is modern DK’s grandfather
@@jiggylookbackExcept it changed *once* and then was immediately fixed. DK has been Cranky’s grandson since before and after DK64 and will continue to be.
In the ending of Grunty’s Revenge (a GBA Banjo game that takes place between Kazooie and Tooie), multiple Banjos & Kazooies travel to the present after the real duo arrive to the present from their time-travelling shenanigans. This could explain all the mounted Banjo heads on the walls of numerous games.
That's actually the worst ending you could get in the game. The best ending has the duo return to what they were doing and prepare a card game for their friends later that night, a hint of what's to come in Banjo-Tooie. 100% nets you a special ending involving Mumbo after the best ending.
I've read before that the Kongs in DK64 were actually going to use real guns before Miyamoto stepped in and replaced them with coconut guns (etc) to make the game more kid-friendly. If Donkey Kong had been rocking a PP7 in DK64 then a shared universe with Goldeneye would have been confirmed 😎
So, in Donkey Kong Land for the Game Boy, the final world is Big Ape City, which is stated to be the location of the original 1981 Donkey Kong arcade game. However, in Super Mario Odyssey, the same claim is made of the Metro Kingdom stage. It's possible that the warp pipe to the Mario universe may be connected to the Metro Kingdom, which the Kongs may know as Big Ape City.
It's worth noting that the Kongs get to Big Ape City by Zepplin and that a city skyline can be seen from DK Island in Donkey Konga 2. So I don't think he would get there by skyline. I do think Big Ape City and New Donk City are the same place. Odyssey's developers have confirmed that New Donk was based off of the Big City in Donkey Kong '94. So if DK truly is connected to the Rare games, we have to get a bit more creative. Maybe there is a portal or wormhole in the ocean that connects to Mario's world. Or maybe DK Island is in Mario's world, but the other earth with the rare characters has some sort of access point. Maybe some weird and wacky Bermuda triangle sort of situation, where there's a Warp spot or something.
Correction: there are 2 Krocodile Islands, one sunk at the end of DKC2 and the other is the mechanical replacement. Despite the name, the Northern Kremisfere is on the south of Kong Island, but it's not precisely clear if it's part of the island itself of a nerby arcipelago (i'd go with the latter, considering we don't see anything resembling the Kremisfere in DKCR and DKCTF)
@@jiggylookback it happens: I was trying to make a Mario timeline once, being very precise with each infos the games offers... and then I read the manuals and all comes crumbling down. Like, did you know that the Lost Levels is in a parallel world and it is mentioned ONCE in the Japanese manual and nowhere else!? That could have explained why Luigi and Peach are kidnapped in SM3DL... the frustration is real...
Dude, it looks like your channel is beginning to grow at a pretty good pace. The DK64 video got 10k views and this one already has almost 3k. I'm glad to see a fellow Rare fan succeed. Keep it up!
Thanks so much! The DK vid is approaching 20k now and Rare is gaining quick. I'm really thankful. I've been working hard for it! Hope to continue to have fun and bring banger content! Thanks for being supportive!
The Rare universe is probably my favorite gaming universe since Rare is my favorite gaming company. They made a lot of my all time childhood favorites. The original DKC trilogy for SNES as well as Diddy Kong Racing and DK64. As well as Killer Instinct, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Star Fox Adventures, Grabbed By the Ghoulies, Blast Corps, and Kameo: Elements of Power. Truly and underrated company. Their games always had some of the best things about any games, the music, the characters, the graphics and art design, the story plots, etc. Truth be told I would love to write a book about them maybe even make a documentary. Hell a theme park attraction based on the universe of their games could even work.
They are one of my favorites as well! I make all sorts of content about it obviously haha! If you ever want to join my discord it’s just filled with Rare fans and we share gaming collections, ideas and just have fun!
As a huge Mario fan, I've never been too keen on the idea of DK sharing a world with these other Rare characters. I firmly believe that any connection that _did_ exist has been severed. And Nintendo has always been connecting Mario to DK, and with Mario on his own world. Even as far back as Donkey Kong '94, in which the Big City is on the same planet as the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario Odyssey expanded upon Big City, making it New Donk City. Further cementing DK Isle as being on Mario's World. It just never made sense to me that the Rare games would all be connected. However, we can't ignore the references to the Mario and DK worlds in the Banjo games! This has lead me to come up with my own headcanons and theories. *#1: L.O.G. Meddling* A lot of Rare games show extremely self-aware characters that know they're in Video Games. Some of the instances in Banjo and Conker go FAR beyond the jokes Cranky would crack in the OG DKC games. Mario does not live in an explicit "video game world," but Conker and Banjo do. Diddy Kong Racing is the only direct point of contact between Diddy, Banjo, and Conker. And Banjo references Diddy Kong Racing in Nuts and Bolts. But Diddy Kong Racing had a remake on the DS that RETCONNED those 2 guest characters. So if it was retconned, how does that work for the Rare side? What if the Lord of Games picked up Banjo and Conker, and placed them in the LITERAL VIDEO GAME of N64 Diddy Kong Racing. This isn't the actual events that occurred in Mario's universe, this is a literal video game in Banjo's. Mario/DK exists as a video game world in the Rare universe, which is separate from the normal non-video game world in Nintendo's games. *#2 Warp point:* Came up with this while reading other comments on the video. What if there's a Bermuda triangle-esque area that connects Mario's World to the Rare earth via a Warp point. You would boat or fly to that area and suddenly be teleported to the other world. It would be somewhere around DK Island on Mario's world, and somewhere around Timber's Island in the Rare World. Where and what the warp point is doesn't matter, as long as the kongs can access it. With all this being said, I thought this was a really cool video. Love all the details and connection points you found. I usually just ignore stuff like this, due to the Mario contradictions, but I ended up having a lot of fun pondering new ideas on how to work around those contradictions (even if I don't believe them). Also mad props for saying the two Tricky the Triceratops are separate characters. Always confused me how people saw them as the same person. Just doesn't make sense. And also I gotta mention that DK Jr is DK's dad. I know about the DK64 thing, but I think 1 time out of all the other times before and afterward that DK has been Cranky's grandson isn't enough to prove that. I would of course change my mind if Nintendo ever made them officially the same, though. Sorry for writing such a huge wall of text lol
Very Cool! Thanks for watching! I literally just love talking about this stuff. And yeah so many connection possibilities. I did my best with what I have so far. I just love it!
Its often mixed up that dk jr is the current dk, but in dk 64, its confirmed that he's the grandson of the original dk now known as cranky. Its often speculated that mario rpg is also connected considering certain enemies you encounter
10:19 One thing about including Smash Bros. is that Smash Bros. is technically a different universe known as the World of Trophies, where the Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong of Smash Bros. are not the same Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong of the Rare World, but are living Trophies, or Plushies in the original, based on them. However, the World of Trophies seems to be connected to the Kirby Universe, located in the Candy Constellation, home of Master Hand and Crazy Hand.
Smash brothers are toy dolls, and stuffed animals being played with by a child and his imagination. The first game opens with the master hand pulling dolls out, super smash melee are figures, brawl are gotcha collections, and the newest one appear to be stickers. The last one seems the most likely because there ain’t proof either way. But from the first 3, they are toys. Besides, using smash is OP like dream theory.
I did not actually use Smash. I just simply mentioned it is another connection between characters specifically Fox and Banjo. Sure the lore in Smash is there. Smash isn’t a good way to connect these.
This awakens such childlike wonder in me and makes me smile from ear to ear. I love it! Guess all of us have done something like this when we were younger but never to this extent.
My only argument is about the placement of Showdown Town and, by extension, the GbtG mansion. L.O.G. calls it a "brand new game world," and that doesn't necessarily prove that Showdown Town *doesn't* take place on Isle o' Hags, but I don't know if I'd agree that the mansion being present in the former proves 100% that it's in the latter. Loved the video though, great job!
Thanks so much for watching! Yeah connecting showdown town could get weird but you could also look at it as the way to get there is through spiral mountain? Then it is connected to isle of hags. Idk lots of ways to go about it.
Funnily enough, there's another wolf character from Rare with the name Sabre. In the beta build for Starfox Adventures which was just called "Dinosaur Planet", one of the protagonists was Sabre. He was eventually replaced by Fox. IMO I prefer Sabre, I just think he fits the game better.
I also feel that conkers country, was originally sunshine and rainbows, I think what happened was, it got distorted due to a wish that conker made. That's why it looks the way it is now in Bad Fur Day.
Nintendo may have discontinued their relationship with Rare when they let Microsoft buy out Rare, but they never officially decanonized the Rare Shared Donkey Kong Universe, so these connections are still valid, Nintendo and Rare just can't outright affirm them because of Intellectual Property rights.
Here's my personal theory after watching this video: Humans have genetically modified animals to uplift them to make them their slaves. After centuries of servitude the now intellegent animals have rebelled against their masters, the humans were nearly wiped out, and they regressed into feudal Kingdoms and Piracy, some remnants of ancient advanced human technology can be found in Zelda. But there was another species that had evolved to intelligence; the Mushrooms with their Toads. The Mushrooms pitied the Humans and reached out with their spores across dimensions where they established a connection to a world where Humans still had a somewhat advanced civilization, not only that, to further enrich the Universe with Life their Spores have inhabited previously lifeless Objects; like toilets, ancient Dollar bills and such.
As a huge old school Rare fan and a Sea of Thieves apologist since launch day (still wear the day 1 patch and the launch crew sniper), my life is immeasurably better knowing that grabbed by the ghoulies takes place after it.
Smash Bros is all a kid's wild dream of his collecction of figurines fighting each other. Master Hands are his hands and are meant to be the top beings in the world of smash. In Brawl his own identity of master hand is prisonned by Tabu and brings on the "other dimension" idea in which all have to team up to defeat them, including rescuing Master hand & Crazy Hand and them helping reach out to the other dimension in the Ultimate game
I think its pretty much established that DK Isle and The Mushroom Kingdom exist in the same universe. I mean...Donkey Kong started out as a Mario character. If they are separated in any way, its possibly just as it is in the Mario movie, where they travel the Rainbow Road to get there.
Thank you! You will always be one of my first supporters bro 😁 you encouraged me when I first started and told me it was good so that drove me to continue. Much love!
It’s a travesty that Jet Force Gemini came out near the end of the 64 cycle. It basically got put under black sheep status with such an insane bevy of other games coming out before the year 2000 rolled in. A sequel ultimately got scrapped along with a potential Gameboy title. You should get a copy and play/review it for yourself.
really love that about nintendo(also capcom.:3) in that it is funny to think of these series being on the same world having things like dk/banjo-kazooie stopping king k. rool and grunty blowing their homes up(even if a little late in the bear and birds case.) or just the image alone of conker existing in the mario universe.(even if outside a few jerk moments/bad habits he's honestly not that bad a guy, moreso mature screwy squirrel if he got lazy if anything.)
I like to think that most of the worlds from video games take place on a parallel world similar to Planet Earth, in the Pikmin games it's called PNF 404, I know that it's implied that PNF 404 is Earth in the future but I'm not sure
I love this kind of stuff lol. With all these worlds and characters together, the ingeniousness, creativity and atmosphere of the world Rare created really can't be understated.
I ditched watching anime for this, and honestly worth it! Seriously shock how you were able to sum this all up in under an hour! That said though I must ask that place that seemingly looks like Peach’s castle in Nuts&Blots do you believe that is actually her castle somehow even though Mario is in a warp pipe or just made to look like Peach’s castle?
I don't know why I never considered all these Rare games could be connected to each other like this. Now it seems so obvious! Excellent video, thanks for taking me down this rabbit hole!
Someone described me as the Charlie Day meme from it’s always Sunny where He’s freaking out with a pinboard that everything is connected. Thats exactly how I felt 😂😂
This is my favorite video ever, ever since I was a kid I was always so fascinated by the Kremisphere and my mind was blown when I grew up and saw its original SGI renders
This was such an interesting take on analyzing the Rare lore. And ngl, I always figured that all of these games were connected to one another, not because of similar styles, but because you would see references all over each game in any shape or form. As a huge Rare fan, I find stuff like this to be very cool and interesting.
Thanks so much for watching! I love all things Rare as well and I loved making this video! I have lots of content planned and other videos so if you’re a huge rare fan be sure to subscribe or join my discord (or both?) you’d fit right in! Rare in my eyes is one of the best game developers and certainly on the 64 back in the day!
Awesome video. A lot more games that were connected than I thought. I love it when games connect to each other like how Wrinkly Kong plays Mario 64 on an N64 in DKC3
So many connections, but that’s what you get when have a developer like Rare who’s been around a while and has lots of good games in the catalog. Love the connections
All of this is happening somewhere out there since Mario was a referee in the Little Mac vs Mike Tyson fight, and Mike exists in our world so either he has access to warp pipes or it is all happening out here somewhere. Either way we need to ask Mike Tyson how to get to those worlds.
Uh oh, if SEGA's currently working on a super-game to connect a bunch of its franchises (Sonic, Yakuza, Phantasy Star and Persona), and Rare left a cheeky reference to Sonic in one of its DK games, they've inadvertently opened the floodgates to organized criminals, apocalyptic demigods and intergalactic horrors. XD
I mean I wholeheartedly embrace Donkey Kong, Banjo and Conker co-existing in the same universe, but that's as far as I go. I'm fine with Battletoads being there but taking place in space tho (and of course, Double Dragon taking place on earth). Also, obviously Mario is set in the same universe as well. Same goes to some other Nintendo franchises like Zelda, Punch-Out and Metroid, but that's another story.
I am beyond excited for your explanation I have been thinking about this FOR YEARS AND YEARS. I always wondered WHAT IS BEYOND BANJOS & KAZOOIES WORLD? Is there more that we havent seen beyond the woods? So curious!! I wonder where Threeie would take place if we ever got one! Would it be in the same world? I wonder if Grunty has been living on the island longer than Kazooie or Banjo?
@@banjo9158 Great point! I just have a feeling she's been living there for a long, long time. She's got a castle set up with a labyrinth of portals to other worlds (or pocket dimensions??) There is no doubt that she is a powerful witch, so she must be pretty old and lived there for awhile!
@@MAIMEDWOLF I always like to think Gruntilda is 50 years old when the events of the first game happen. to have that mentality that she is having a mid-life crisis, and that being one of the reasons why she kidnap Tooty, it makes the situation even funnier.
@@MAIMEDWOLF Given that Boggy travelled from Freezeezy Peak to Hailfire Peaks, I'm guessing portals to other worlds unless everyone can use that method. Also worth noting that Spiral Mountain despite the name appears to be an isolated valley in Isle o Hags, which is perhaps around the Northern Kremisphere?
I'd like to see Joanna Dark as a character in Killer Instinct. Although I haven't played the recent K.I game. Edit: Where would Snake Rattle and Roll fall into? Would that game be in the same timeline as Battletoads? That game did tease a sequel that never happened, Snakes In Space, or something like that.
The Rareverse is my favorite in all of gaming and seeing it all mapped out so joyously sates a curiosity I've held since early childhood back when Rare was just getting on the map with DKC! It's times like these I wish Rare has retained all their contributions to the Donkey Kong universe, just not being able to use the Donkey Kong, so they could have continued DK games and maybe even crossed over DK and Banjo more. Maybe they'd have called him Dumpy Kong since he's as strong as a dumptruck. On the Nintendo side, they may have gone back to DK and DK Jr. type games and characters, maybe even making a Ms. Pac-Man-esque Mrs. Donkey Kong as a mother to Junior. One can dream.
to further link sea of thieves to killer instinct. The mask that commands spinal in the reboot is a mask of the ancients from sea of thieves. exact same design
I mean that’s true, but seeing as it’s the one game a lot of these characters connect to it’s worth mentioning. Didn’t feel like I needed to get into smash lore really haha
In DKC1 you can see land far off into the distance where k. Rool's pirate ship comes from as it inches closer and closer to DK island throughout the progression of the game. It's not directly north of dk isle and it's not directly south either and you can tell it's way bigger than krocodile isle as well
I like the idea that a novelty mounted Banjo head was made for a promotion or by some weird taxidermist fan, got won by or sold to either the owner of the pub in Windy or one of its regulars who decided to give it to the owner to mount on the wall as a gift, then years later after it got all withered and creepy, got sold at a garage sale or pawn shop or something and wound up in the hands of whoever owns the mansion in Grabbed by the Ghoulies, who clearly was collecting creepy taxidermies.
Great video dude! A lot of great connections here. I always love stuff like this ha! I am always open to talk DKU/Rareniverse stuff! Watched it with the GF and she was surprised and pleased to have the art in. Shes subbed now too and we look forward to more related content. Cheers bro! ❤👌
Jiggy I’m loving your content! These are the in depth videos I thrive on. The hidden content; the conceptual connections; the LOREEEEE. You’re killing it man, keep up the in depth research and connections. Also I love how you and your editor made the map! So cool! Great job!
I actually edit everything myself. My brother just did the art of the islands and I laid them out and animated everything :) but he did a great job! And thanks for watching!
Only thing I want to add is Mario can get to Donkey Kong Island via New Donk City and probably flying in his Skypop plain. Mario doesn't need a warp pipe. Also In Yoshi's Island DS DK lands on Yoshi, meaning Yoshi's Island is also near these areas; most likely DK Island. If Link is there than Hyrule is near too. Link can probably travel to other lands via Forari's Wind or the Great Lion King Boat. Also is the diffrent lands from SMB3 connected? And than you mentioned a sky kingdom: Link, Mario, and Pit could all be connected. Than if you mention Star Fox you have to mention F-Zero. This could REALLY spin out of control. Anyway these are just my thoughts. Good video. Oh and I once heard DK Junior is DK'S father. DK is a third. Cranky. Junior. Donkey Kong.
@@jiggylookback I've been working on one myself for a little bit now. When I finally post it I'll have to send you the Link. It's more of a SMASH related map. It's not because we have one in Subspace Emissary, but it does link multiple Nintendo titles together; so it could be interpreted as a SMASH map. You'll see what I mean soon enough. Anyway it'll still be different than yours and I can't wait to see your take after watching this. Nice job man!👍
Seems pretty neat, but surprised you didn't mention another big connection: Spinal's Age from Killer Instinct(namely the first one) being 2,650 years old, which crossed over with the time of Killer Instinct means he was animated around the 400s-which would seem a fitting timepoint to slot in the Sea of Thieves games assuming he was a pirate alive then before his rebirth as a vengeful spirit. Also you don't really need to fuss too much about Smash Bros., since the whole MO of that seriesis that they are figures(later trophies) of famous game characters reanimated by a magic force and living in an expanding world of imagination so that's it own entire thing there.
Agreed! And yeah I’m sure I missed a lot I haven’t played all of these equally. Killer Isntinct is cool but I haven’t played too much of that series. Thats a cool tidbit!
Battletoads also connects to Double Dragon. Meaning there's probably other connections to other Arc System works games as well? I guess Battletoads takes place a little bit closer to the Perfect era, assuming the Double Dragon Earth and Rare Earth are the same
Nope some of those older games I definitely did not, I briefly mentioned a couple. Some exist as games within other games as well confirming their connections. I may do a follow up sometime with updates!
I wanna add an additional note as well: In the Nintendo Universe, we see both Links in MK8 & MK8DX, along with Peachette, & Wiggler, who may be the most biggest traveler of all! Peachette originally being Toadette means she has a TON of Game Connections too, so that also means Link, Wiggler & Peachette (and Toadette as her own self. Maybe another Toadette? IDK. Anyways...) This also means the rabbit hole of Nintendo, in MK8&DX even extends into F-Zero from MK8DX probably via magic time travel warp pipe, & also all subsequent games Toadette & Wiggler have appeared in as well. Any non-direct easter eggs in non-Nintendo games are probably connected via magic warp pipe, & are all connected back via Mario Kart. Smash Bros is it's own rabbit hole, which MatPat also did a theory on as well: We basically have a giant videogame multiverse on our hands as well. With lots of other nods to other videogames & multiverses as well, MatPat's videogame timeline explores a GIANT rabbithole of how videogames predict our future, moreorless so at least. 💖
@@jiggylookback Kingdom Hearts is also in Smash Ultimate, so combined with MatPat's videogame multiverse theory, it's easy to see how big this rabbit hole can grow as well. Luckily, I like these sorts of rabbit holes! In ALL SORTS OF MEDIA, TONS of references get used, so we otherwise have a fictional media multiverse as well!
After seeing your DK64 video, I got so excited during today's Direct Partner Showcase at the Rare stuff coming to NSO, thinking 'this is it - DK64!' - Maybe next time :') This new video was a lotta fun
Haha thanks for watching. I was really hoping for Diddy Kong Racing more than anything to be honest but at least we got some Rare games. More to come I’m sure.
There's quite a few logical leaps here, as it sees _any_ reference to a game property and concludes they exist... but I'm certain they have the concept of fiction. Thus the initial connections from DK to Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct, Mr. Pants, and Jet Force Gemini are all moot due to them just being posters or TV shows (neat that Pants is in Gemini though). And tying Star Fox into this was an even _bigger_ stretch. Those two characters are entirely different, with nothing to suggest a connection other than a shared name and reference to walking on earth (note I didn't capitalize earth, as the correct interpretation here is "dirt", not "our planet"). I _will_ give you Sea of Thieves though. If it were _just_ the stylized Banjo picture, _just_ a place that looked like Treasure Trove, or _just_ Blackeye, it would again be a stretch, but all three together suggest it's the same world. Which... means I now need to consider how Shovel Knight fits into all this, since it's connected to Sea of Thieves via Battletoads. And since he shows up all over the indie game scene... Anyway, dismissing Mario's presence in that specific world is just as much of a stretch as including Star Fox. Discounting Smash makes sense, as even if it's the "real" characters, there's some dimensional shenanigans going on there, but doing the same for Mario spinoffs is quite silly. Heck, as non-canon to the games as the Mario Movie is, it clearly shows that Nintendo themselves think DK and Mario live on the same planet. And you got the DK family wrong (as most do), DK isn't DK Jr. grown up, but the son of DK Jr. No, we don't know what happened to DK Jr. The Ghoulies connection is sketchy too, for the same "fiction is a thing" reason previously. That may look like Banjo's species, but it's clearly not his head... and a Banjo head being in Conker clearly shows these things can be artificially created. And the mansion in N&B's background is too generic from this distance to suggest a connection, as is the supposed connection between Ghoulies and Viva Pinata. Oh, and LOG's "connections" to worlds are _as video games,_ and thus possibly fiction. Not for certain mind you, but not every game can be a "true story" now can it? Now, as for Link... I'm going to suggest that this is _after_ Smash 64. There simply aren't any spots in Mario's world large enough to house any version of Hyrule, especially after Odyssey. And that goes _quadruple_ for Sonic, since Unleashed shows its _own_ map of the planet... though he still crosses over from time to time, if Olympic Games are to be believed (which are a much stronger tie than shoes). Jim's blaster? I can't think of either a way for him to be in the same world _or_ brought in via Smash, so maybe it's just fiction. That doesn't sound right, but neither does it _not_ being fiction. And that "mask" is just a smear of Jim shaking his head. I should also mention that, since Mario's and DK's worlds are _definitely_ one and the same, that connections to Metroid and Kirby also exist (the former shows up both in SMRPG _and_ Kirby Dreamland 3). While the former could just be a dimensional visit, the latter cannot, because there's no way _actual Metroids_ are appearing on Popstar if it isn't in the same universe... but that's a shared world with Metroid, not Mario.
That’s very detailed and I don’t think I want to respond to every point, but I appreciate the thoroughness. Yes I was stretching it a bit. I think I even say that, but since it’s fun and speculative it’s ok to do. The starfox connection is something I asked Kev Bayliss who was the art director in Diddy Kong Racing and the voice of Tricky himself who said they weren’t the same character but they were related. I initially was going to have him as a guest on this video so me saying that got cut out. I just didn’t feel like re-recording again as it would cause me to re-edit again lol. The Kong lineage is highly debated. In Country Cranky is DK’s Grandfather and in 64 he is his father. It’s been said Cranky is senile but also the creator Miyamoto went with the father route for the movie suggesting that’s what he liked. I’m not acknowledging the movie as canon but saying Miyamoto who created DK seemed to prefer that. The Grabbed by the Ghoulies mansion in Showdown town is acknowledged to be the same as the actual game on a lot of online wikis not to mention it looks exactly the same. There are also further connections to Banjo in grabbed by the Ghoulies like documents. The fiction route is maybe plausible but that’s not fun at all. I like Earthworm Jim. That’s the only reason he’s in there 😂 Maybe I’ll respond more later but this is all I want to atm cooking dinner haha but again appreciate the thoughtful comment
Detail: Shovel Knight and Battletoads crossover, is one of the few that is 100% confirmed to be canon. Banjo and DK is also 100% guarantee, Banjo even mention those events in Nuts and Bolts, and I agree that leaving Mario out is weird, Nintendo clearly see Mario, DK and Punch-Out as all part of a single universe. Idk how I feel about Sea of Thieves X Banjo, and Sea of Thieves X Battletoads, if it's in the same universe or a shared multiverse, Shovel Knight and Battletoads seens to be just a Multiversal thing, just like God of War X Shovel Knight (which is also 100% confirmed to be canon) hell, there is also the K.I X Battletoads crossover to consider too, so the Battletoads might be just a shared Multiverse thing, I don't know how to feel about Sea of Thieves x Banjo. Banjo x Sabrewulf seens to be in the same universe for sure. but Sabrewulf from K.I could be just an alternate reality of Sabrewulf, there is definetly a connection there, a shared Multiverse at minimum, I'm not sure about same universe though, but could be too. About Link and Kirby, there's also Kirby appearing in Link's awakening. so one more connection there. The fiction route though is kinda screwy for both cases, because L.O.G sees even Banjo-Kazooie itself as games and fiction too. so that one could go either way.
@@jiggylookback Wait, you have Dinosaure planet!?! Starfox adventure is my precious Gamecube game, so precious that i have it and Gamecube again😂😂. Also, you play as Krystal her.) That ironical since Scale finish to become the main vilain with Andross and the Red dragon, a simply boss.
The timelines thing is a crazy idea to consider. I always figured that the "Funny Animal" lands were part of the planet the Nintendo places (Mushroom Kingdom, Hyrule, so fourth), a separate dimension from normal Earth.
I mean could be! But perfect dark does specifically happen in 2023 and Killer instinct says in the distant future and they both take place on earth. And Sea of Thieves which is Pirate technology (muskets and ships) happens around Banjo time. Just so much to consider!
I personally try to make the "Rare Universe" more comprehendive! If we look at Rare, it must be taken at some factors: 1. "Nintendo Rare" and "Microsoft Rare" will make two universes as the split-up will break things up. 2. Goldeneye, Mickey's Speedway and various licensed products Rare have done can't be canon as Rare themselves don't count them as "real original work". 3. Super SMash Bros. are all spin-offs and don't have a lineal line with there normal counterparts. a) The Nintendo Rare Universe: Yes, here we have a collaborating universe where Rare's Sabrewulf crew, Banjo & Kazooie, Conker the Squirel, Mr. Pants, Jet Force Gemini crew etc. goes with Nintendo's Donkey Kong (obviously) crew, Mario's crew and Star Fox crew. On a side note; yes Battletoads could arguably exist in same universe, but are distant from the others because they share little in common to co-exist. However, Killer Instinct is something very difficult to piece togheter just as Perfect Dark as they focus on humans and more to the "real world". I would rather think they could be in same universe at different times. b) The Microso´ft Rare Universe: Now it is only Rare's Universe. All connections with Nintendo are cut due to owner-shift. That won't erase the past but for evreything past the early GameCube days are now over. Sabrewulf crew, Banjo & Kazooie, Conker the Squirel, Mr. Pants, Jet Force Gemini crew etc. is still the same. Killer Instinct and Perfect Dark is staying the same. So beside the Donkey Kong connection loss, it remains the same.
Oh I forgot about Mickey’s Speedway which is hilairous because I have it and had it growing up. DARN IT. Cool ideas! Some similar and splitting the timeline between Microsoft and Nintendo is interesting. Almost like a multiverse which I briefly touched on with like blasts corps. So cool how we can come up with so many theories and ideas.
@@jiggylookback Yeah it was a decent game! A bit hard tho for a kart game. Yeah I think they give some clearity if to make it hold in todays landscape.
@@WarioSaysSo someone mentioned Mickey connecting and got into Kingdom Hearts which would doubly connect with Pirates of the Caribbean and sea of thieves lol what a tangled web we weave
Maybe DK comes from the Marioverse and settled down in the Rare verse. There is some video game cabinet discrepancies. Cranky has jetpac he could have made the dk arcade game. Cranky also has a killer instinct cabinet in dkc2. He could just be making these games based on his ideas and experiences!
If you're going to include the entire DK franchise into the timeline, I would like to know where Donkey Kong Jungle Beat figures in. I've always believed it to be a prequel to the DKC trilogy hence why none of the other Kongs ever show up, but still; the setting and terrain are so vast and diverse that you have to wonder WHERE every one of the kingdoms seen in the game are located…
Here is something wonderful I will be doing in the future. Examine every game franchise and exploring the islands/world specifically in that series. So DK is def high on that list!
@@jiggylookback that will be cool. I also personally don’t consider the Donkey Kong Land games to be canon since the storyline breaks the 4th wall too much
one fun thing of note is that you can actually connect the Marioverse to this without opening the floodgates. The main lynchpin that connects pretty much everything to Mario would be Super Smash Bros, However by the lore of SSB that is not the actual Mario and thus can't connect anything by default. SSB is effectively it's own mostly* contained setting based around the idea of the Spirit of what each character represents to the fans being given life. Without SSB, the Marioverse then becomes slightly more simple. Pikmin gets connected as Mario Golf has them show up on occasion when your ball goes through a patch of flowers, F-Zero and Animal Crossing get a connection through Mario Kart, Metroid gets connected as Samus has appeared a couple times in Mario RPG titles. Legend of Zelda gets a much stronger tie as Link has appeared several times as well as had Mario enemies show up in Link's Awakening. and Finally Punch Out gets connected as Mario was the Referee in the original game. All of these can be reasonably fit into a single overall setting with the exception of Pikmin which would need timeline stuff similar to Perfect Dark and Killer Instinct did. * I say Mostly cause it's debatable that Sora may actually be the real deal that simply ends up arriving in the SSB world to save its dying heart somehow. but that is an entirely separate can of worms to deal with.
The only issue I have is that we can argue that Kazooie's joke about Elvis from Perfect Dark and the JFG posters could merely be the case of PD and JFG being games in the Rare world. After all, Banjo Tooie shows an N64 on the menu that might imply that Banjo and Kazooie owned an N64 at some time and with multiple characters making 4th wall jokes implying that they know about their adventures being games, particularly in Banjo Kazooie and Cranky Kong's cynical humor. That said, it's still very likely that JFG could still be in the same universe as DK and crew, but given PD is supposed to be our Earth in the same way as James Bond is that series would likely be in an alternate timeline which is where I also think KI takes place in since the Sabrewulf in KI is actually a werewolf in reference to the third entry in the Sabrewulf series, Knight Lore, the original Sabrewulf that hunted Sabreman was an invincible but otherwise ordinary jungle wolf. Speaking of Sabrewulf, this also implies that the Underwurlde and Gunfright both exist given that the former is the 2nd Sabrewulf title and the latter shares a similar art style. All that said, it's still theoretically possible that Perfect Dark and Killer Instinct do indeed take place on the Rare Universe. It's possible that the Kong Islands are either too small to exist on the world maps of those two titles or that the cartoonier cast actually live on a separate planet and "our" Earth is merely another planet in the Rare Universe.
Hey guys I realize this is something people may be passionate about and by no means is my video the “end all be all” for this discussion. I simply did this for fun and because I love these games. I love the idea that all these characters live within the same world. It makes everything feel so big and vast, like there are other islands we have yet to explore.

Yeah wouldn’t it be cool for open world diddy king racing and you could fly to other islands like sea of thieves but DKR style?
I mean Donkey kong tropical freeze has multiple islands to the west, (and one in the east).
Yep, that's confirmed in the DKC1 manual IIRC.

Thank you! Funny enough I haven’t finished Gruntys Revenge! I’ve been playing it. You rock for sharing!
That's only in the Any% ending. 100% has only one Banjo.
That's actually the worst ending you could get in the game. The best ending has the duo return to what they were doing and prepare a card game for their friends later that night, a hint of what's to come in Banjo-Tooie.

I was always a bit fascinated by how Rare connected their games via cameos and references and thought about a connected universe.
It always intrigued me as a kid!
You are 100% correct and that would have been amazing XD
Holy crap I didnt even know half those games even existed
So mannnnyyy gaaaammmmeeeesss haha I hope you’ll check them out! This is one of those companies that the majority of their titles are great!

In my heart I can't help but feel this video is going to blow up. At the very least I worked really hard on it!
I like that!
@@DaNintendude I like the idea of the Crystal coconut being some sort of key
Correction:
there are 2 Krocodile Islands, one sunk at the end of DKC2 and the other is the mechanical replacement.
Despite the name, the Northern Kremisfere is on the south of Kong Island, but it's not precisely clear if it's part of the island itself of a nerby arcipelago (i'd go with the latter, considering we don't see anything resembling the Kremisfere in DKCR and DKCTF)
Yeah the mechanical one is shown. And yes you’re right man. I’m dealing with too many games I made that mistake :/ uuuggg that’s literally a fact
@@jiggylookback it happens: I was trying to make a Mario timeline once, being very precise with each infos the games offers... and then I read the manuals and all comes crumbling down.

*#1: L.O.G. Meddling*
A lot of Rare games show extremely self-aware characters that know they're in Video Games.
*#2 Warp point:*
Came up with this while reading other comments on the video.
In DK64 Cranky is current Dks father not grandfather in country he is stated to be the grandfather
Jetpac canonically exists as a property in the Donkey Kong Country universe!
It does indeed haha
10:19 One thing about including Smash Bros. is that Smash Bros. is technically a different universe known as the World of Trophies, where the Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong of Smash Bros. are not the same Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong of the Rare World, but are living Trophies, or Plushies in the original, based on them. However, the World of Trophies seems to be connected to the Kirby Universe, located in the Candy Constellation, home of Master Hand and Crazy Hand.
Wow! I didn't expect senpai to notice me.
Nuts and Bolts was just a dream/nightmare, not to be taken as canon
Currently still playing through it myself
This awakens such childlike wonder in me and makes me smile from ear to ear.
I love it!
Guess all of us have done something like this when we were younger but never to this extent.
So true. Definitely contemplated this as a kid and would have loved a video like this about it. In a way just fulfilling my childhood and for others!
So many of my favorite childhood games all in the same universe !!!!
HECK YEAH!
Yeah starfox was shoehorned in but I do love that game!
I also feel that conkers country, was originally sunshine and rainbows, I think what happened was, it got distorted due to a wish that conker made. That's why it looks the way it is now in Bad Fur Day.
You should watch my Tail of Two Berris video. See what you think!
Word! What was made can never be broken…lol sounds like some cultish chant
Here's my personal theory after watching this video:
Humans have genetically modified animals to uplift them to make them their slaves.
After centuries of servitude the now intellegent animals have rebelled against their masters, the humans were nearly wiped out, and they regressed into feudal Kingdoms and Piracy,
some remnants of ancient advanced human technology can be found in Zelda.
But there was another species that had evolved to intelligence; the Mushrooms with their Toads.
The Mushrooms pitied the Humans and reached out with their spores across dimensions where they established a connection to a world where Humans still had a somewhat advanced civilization, not only that,
to further enrich the Universe with Life their Spores have inhabited previously lifeless Objects; like toilets, ancient Dollar bills and such.
And eventually the mushrooms take over other creatures thus introducing the last of us lol
As a huge old school Rare fan and a Sea of Thieves apologist since launch day (still wear the day 1 patch and the launch crew sniper), my life is immeasurably better knowing that grabbed by the ghoulies takes place after it.
Yep but not too far haha
Smash Bros is all a kid's wild dream of his collecction of figurines fighting each other. Master Hands are his hands and are meant to be the top beings in the world of smash.
In Brawl his own identity of master hand is prisonned by Tabu and brings on the "other dimension" idea in which all have to team up to defeat them, including rescuing Master hand & Crazy Hand and them helping reach out to the other dimension in the Ultimate game
This is an awesome video! Lots of fun to watch.
I have to say though, I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed that DK Jr. Is not our current DK.
I think its pretty much established that DK Isle and The Mushroom Kingdom exist in the same universe. I mean...Donkey Kong started out as a Mario character.
If they are separated in any way, its possibly just as it is in the Mario movie, where they travel the Rainbow Road to get there.
I’ll be doing a Nintendo Verse video at some point and will try to further the connection and really dive into just that
Awesome video! Congrats on the channel blowing up!
I have it and I've played through it. I'll do a defending video on that at some point probably!
really love that about nintendo(also capcom.:3) in that it is funny to think of these series being on the same world having things like dk/banjo-kazooie stopping king k. rool and grunty blowing their homes up(even if a little late in the bear and birds case.) or just the image alone of conker existing in the mario universe.(even if outside a few jerk moments/bad habits he's honestly not that bad a guy, moreso mature screwy squirrel if he got lazy if anything.)
It would be awesome to see that level of cross over happen sometime
I like to think that most of the worlds from video games take place on a parallel world similar to Planet Earth, in the Pikmin games it's called PNF 404, I know that it's implied that PNF 404 is Earth in the future but I'm not sure
Pretty safe assumption I’d say
I love this kind of stuff lol. With all these worlds and characters together, the ingeniousness, creativity and atmosphere of the world Rare created really can't be understated.
Yes! It’s so vibrant yet filled with variety. It’s incredible!!
Thank you for watching 😁 I think I was reading the argument that it is Gruntys Lair, the top of her tower in the background.

All of this is happening somewhere out there since Mario was a referee in the Little Mac vs Mike Tyson fight, and Mike exists in our world so either he has access to warp pipes or it is all happening out here somewhere.

Yeah I wish Rare retained all that too.

Yeah exactly! Haha
fantastic job, we always thoughts these things when we were younger, playing these games
Right?! Thanks for watching
Double Dragon is also part of the Rare-verse, thanks to the Battletoads crossover.
Yeah that’s really awesome!
Great video dude! A lot of great connections here. I always love stuff like this ha! I am always open to talk DKU/Rareniverse stuff! Watched it with the GF and she was surprised and pleased to have the art in. Shes subbed now too and we look forward to more related content. Cheers bro! ❤👌

I need to do a full Nintendo map now too 😎
@@jiggylookback I've been working on one myself for a little bit now. Nice job man!👍
@@Nick-up5wv sounds cool man!
I like this! You get my sub!
Heck yeah!! Thanks for subbing! Glad you liked it!
I guess Battletoads takes place a little bit closer to the Perfect era, assuming the Double Dragon Earth and Rare Earth are the same
So many connections. I didn’t want to speak too much on Battletoads cause I haven’t played much but could very well!
Wait. Did you include my first Rareware game of all time, Jazz Jackrabbit? I think NOT. Orrr I wasn’t paying any attention, and I’m old…
Nope some of those older games I definitely did not, I briefly mentioned a couple. Some exist as games within other games as well confirming their connections.
I may do a follow up sometime with updates!
This is a good video. It made me cut the rare logo in my arm.
That’s pretty hardcore. And I dig it.
Loved this video so much! It makes so much sense! Great work again buddy!
Thanks for watching it 😎
I wanna add an additional note as well: In the Nintendo Universe, we see both Links in MK8 & MK8DX, along with Peachette, & Wiggler, who may be the most biggest traveler of all!
Yeah I’m thinking about doing other universes as well aside from Rare.
Nintendo is a big one, but I want to explore like Sega and Capcom too!
Finally, the Rareware Cinematic Universe we have been asking for.
Happy to have helped. Imagine this as one big game and you could explore the worlds. Amazing!
DKVine will love this
Yeah right up DKVine’s alley!
Bro your channel is the best i dont realy see much youtubers talk about rare so yours is a nice surprise
Thank you so much!! I’m working really hard! Trying to put out content I would want to watch. I love Rare!
I like to think that DK jr. died somehow and the current DK was adopted by Cranky so he can be called crankys son but is really his grandson.
That is the best of both worlds theory I’ve heard, nice idea!
Need a banjo or conker movie
We really do!
That’s the only reason he’s in there 😂
Maybe I’ll respond more later but this is all I want to atm cooking dinner haha but again appreciate the thoughtful comment
RIP Dinosaur Planet😭😭. Fortunately that we found a prototype of the game in 2023
yeah!! I have that build! Gotta play it! Starfox adventures tho I absolutely love

@@jiggylookback Oh God! You absolutely need to play this prototype and make a longameplay! By what i see, the prototype is good but have little problem cause it not finish ( apparently, the red dragon that Fox fight in the Dragon'lair was the final boss of Dinosaur planet, but since the prototype is not finish, you can't fight him. Also, you play as Krystal her.) That ironical since Scale finish to become the main vilain with Andross and the Red dragon, a simply boss.
I’ll have to make a video on it!
If we look at Rare, it must be taken at some factors:
1. "Nintendo Rare" and "Microsoft Rare" will make two universes as the split-up will break things up.
2. Goldeneye, Mickey's Speedway and various licensed products Rare have done can't be canon as Rare themselves don't count them as "real original work".
3. Super SMash Bros. are all spin-offs and don't have a lineal line with there normal counterparts.
a) The Nintendo Rare Universe:
Yes, here we have a collaborating universe where Rare's Sabrewulf crew, Banjo & Kazooie, Conker the Squirel, Mr.
I would rather think they could be in same universe at different times.
b) The Microso´ft Rare Universe:
Now it is only Rare's Universe.
I don't think DK can just be cut, even in the Xbox era. Diddy Kong Racing events are referenced in Nuts and Bolts.
@@banjo9158 That I don't know about. Where does that happen in the game?
@@jiggylookback Yeah it was a decent game! A bit hard tho for a kart game.
Yeah I think they give some clearity if to make it hold in todays landscape.
@@WarioSaysSo someone mentioned Mickey connecting and got into Kingdom Hearts which would doubly connect with Pirates of the Caribbean and sea of thieves lol what a tangled web we weave
Ok but how do you explain Yoshi's Island DS?
Also where is Time Lord? Also how do we explain how the DK arcade game exists in DK64? Is LOG behind it?
Maybe DK comes from the Marioverse and settled down in the Rare verse.
There is some video game cabinet discrepancies. Cranky has jetpac he could have made the dk arcade game. Cranky also has a killer instinct cabinet in dkc2. He could just be making these games based on his ideas and experiences!
@@jiggylookback Might explain Mario being a bad guy in Dk Jr. if Cranky is portraying a distorted version of events.
@@christopherbottger it’s an interesting idea for sure
Still hilarious to think about how, before the DS remake of Diddy Kong Racing, Conker’s Bad Fur Day was canon to the Mario universe.
Right?!
Even after the remake, Tiptup is still there, and he is a Banjo character.
@@banjo9158Yeah. Just not Conker anymore. Lol
I also personally don’t consider the Donkey Kong Land games to be canon since the storyline breaks the 4th wall too much
What an amazing video. I love it. Thanks for the awesome content
Thank you for watching!!
one fun thing of note is that you can actually connect the Marioverse to this without opening the floodgates.
I love the Sora theory and I think I’ll make a Nintendo one of these at some point
So many potential rabbit holes. It’s definitely fun to theorize and connect the dots!
Into the Rare verse!!!!
Heck yeah
Let's not forget Xenomorph aliens are confirmed in the Rare universe /j
