Just figured I'd step in here; The composition for "Teddy Bear's Picnic" was written in 1907 and is therefore in the Public Domain. The _lyrics_ were added in 1932, meaning those are still protected under copyright. If you wanted to, you could find an instrumental and simply add singalong lyrics on-screen.
Some minor corrections *Mount Fire-eyes: that was confirmed to be a fake rumor by the developers, but they admired the dedication of the fans to make a wiki page for it. *Stop and Swap: The items that appear in Tooie appear regardless even if you don’t have a save file from Kazooie in the N64 version, Stop and Swap was also meant for Rare’s other games for the N64 after Banjo Kazooie (DK64 being the only game having some work done for stop and swap alongside Tooie before it was scrapped, not just the BK fridge but also a cut DK statue in Creepy Castle that would’ve tied to Stop and Swap.) * Tooty’s whereabouts: Again not a correction, but the original pitch for Grunty’s revenge explained that she was having her own adventures offscreen which I feel makes more sense than the Rubbish video game police. Still a pretty good iceberg video regardless! There was some stuff I didn’t even know about!
Regarding Stop N Swop, I saw Ben Rai's excellent documentary on it a week or so ago and had come to say similar. I like the scope of what Rare wanted with Stop N Swop, and it's a shame hardware limited what they wanted to do.
Pretty sure the part about Stop n Swop 2 items being used in Nuts & Bolts is incorrect. The template vehicles mentioned are unlocked with the original SNS items, and the ones from 2 have no use whatsoever.
48:31 I’M SO GLAD I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO FELT THIS WAY. In fact the entire Terrydactyland level in general has always just felt really unsettling to me and I could never quite figure out why. ESPECIALLY the Stomping Plains.
It’s got that strange green sky and desolate atmosphere. What adds to it for me is the fact that there’s paintings and patterns on the wall, implying it was maybe once a safe place where cavemen lived. It feels so much like you really did step back in time to the dinosaur times. The sky makes it feel super out of place since it’s not really visible from terry’s area either.
Man, your sense of humor really elevates an already interesting and well organized topic choice. Pretty sure I ACTUALLY laughed a couple of times, and that almost doesn't happen anymore. You are really good at this! Thanks for the fantastic video!
I think Barrell Boy may have been a subtle insult directed toward Bottles' weight, Kazooie is a real classy bird after all and would probably stoop to such comedy
It’s uncharacteristic of her to talk about his body shape or weight, though. It’s just a random thing to say that isn’t reflective of any other way she goes about insulting him. When you consider that DK’s portrait was there in Bottles’ place, the barrel boy comment immediately falls into a context that makes way more sense.
Damn, ever since throwing my hat back into the small youtuber ring I'm getting recommended all sorts of small gaming youtubers, and man it's great. There's just a neat feeling of old youtube style passion and simplicity, and it's real nice.
44:30 Well I be a Mumbo's uncle! I can't believe someone actually found that old BK Crystal Jiggy proof of concept!! Farfetched to believed but some of those sketches shown are actually some of mine when I was like around 15 years old (opening scene concept, Hub entrances sketches, enemy concepts) which is why they are really bad, hahaha. Obviously we were all really young folks working on something way too big for our britches and we had little knowledge of how to pull off so the whole project fell apart fairly quickly as far as I know. But it was a food memory nonetheless. No idea if the concepts that ended up in the mod were taken from our old thing or just coincidence, but regardless I thank you a lot for giving me a small trip down memory lane!
19:31 I actually still have this VHS tape. 6 confused as to how i got it in the mail since i didn't own an N64 or any nintendo console as a kid til much later! Its fun to go back and watch it from time to time!
Off to a strong start with this channel, it feels like. Hope this gets a fair amount of views. There's already a ton of iceberg videos, but if you want to keep making them, I'll gladly watch.
39:51 No, you are not the only one who still has those thoughts, I'm pretty sure all of us who grew up with Banjo-Kazooie and the golden age of Rareware games still think about it. It can't be helped, there was so much potential, so many canceled games, so much to daydream about...
Glad to see people still is talking about this amazing franchise, there were many details I didn't knew. Also feels great to see an Iceberg again. Totally subscribing my dude.
Finally another post 2021 iceberg video and chart that's actually decent. I have some corrections and further details on stop n swop though. Someone else already said it so I won't bring up that but what they didn't include also is that you were NEVER meant to leave your n64 on, they knew that would damage the hardware. It was always based on the ram left over after turning it off. While before we thought tooie was the only game, it is now known it was meant for other games too as the other commenter said albeit not just from data in dk64 but I'm pretty sure a dev has since confirmed it. Also while stop n swop was removed from all the planned games, it's still in Kazooie fully functional. Skawo has some great videos demonstrating what it would look like to unlock the items through the intended ram message means as opposed to the sandcastle cheat codes; and with the recent decompilation this may be something that becomes much more surfaced and accessible if not something more.
@@agentepolaris4914 I'll avoid posting the link because I'm not sure if that would get my comment removed, but you can find it by searching "banjo kazooie iceberg" and then using the recently uploaded option.
I think the reason that the music for Bottles' Party doesn't need to be listened to to be unlocked for the jukebox is because most returning players would just go straight to the final boss after beating Tower of Tragedy. I guess the game developers realized that it isn't worth it to win Tower of Tragedy, go to Bottles' house during the party, listen to the music, and then go back to beat the final boss. I think only beginner players or people who like to see all the details of a game would actually go to Bottles house between the quiz and final boss.
I think the best hope for Banjo would be if Retro Studios could get their hands on the rights of it. They were able to make modern DK games that feel like they could've come from Rare. I feel like they could do something with Banjo if all parties wanted to make it happen. But it's probably a long shot.
34:35. I think Mumbo Jumbo makes references to Humba Wumba in Banjo Kazooie and Humba Wumba makes references to him in Banjo Tooie. I think there was also a Playstation magazine article that brings up that they are married but do not see each other often
56:10 this is TRUE! there was actually old beta footage for the "2d banjo game" that turned into BK, where we can actually use the wing flap jump but only wings would come out and no kazooie head. idk where to find this footage though so...
56:20 the legs and wings thing is very true. In some Rare Replay bonus video content, original devs of the game talk about giving banjo more advanced moves, and that started with kazooie just being wings and then legs coming out from the backpack
11:30 there is actually a lot more to this than people have been lead to believe. Another RUclipsr named Skawo posted a video demonstrating how the function actually would have worked with a Banjo Kazooie cartridge. One of the game devs posted a comment on that video that led to over 200 replies and a pretty in depth conversation among them about the scrapped feature. I've saved all the comments and insights in a rough paste word document that I'm still trying to figure the best way to present it online. But in the mean time, allow me to paraphrase some clarity: Stop n Swop was pulled by Nintendo during the development of DK64. Banjo Kazooie was a completed cartridge by then and everything programmed to run and work as intended. Nothing regarding SnS on Kazooie is scrapped or leftover cut content, the codes are still in game and can be received by the intended methods per Skawo's video demonstration. The items in SnS were NOT all going to BK2, but rather initially intended to have one item for a different Rare game that would be developed after. DK64 was already in the works when Banjo was nearing completion, they knew they wanted their first SnS feature on the game, and the item was to be an Ice Key. When SnS was canned, elements of it had to be pulled from DK64, but other hard programmed bits like camera movements and level layouts/rooms couldn't be so easily removed. This is why you have a random room with an empty pedestal, or a camera that pans into an empty wall. Because the other games SnS would have affected were not even in development, let alone known what they would be, Rare had to make some kind of ambiguous mystery container that could reveal it's contents on the other games when they figured out what they wanted it to be. They went with colorful ? eggs, a kind of cross between a colorful wrapped present and an Easter egg container. The Ice Key is the exception because DK64 was already far enough into development they knew what they wanted that game's item to be. BK2 wasn't anything that had been greenlit at the time BK1 was completed, the 3 SnS eggs and key in that game were more of an inside knowledge/easter egg throw back to BK1, as those items were seen at the end of BK1 if you 100%ed the game. The last 3 eggs of BK1 are just kind of randomly placed in the levels compared to the specialized rooms the other 4 objects had as they were added near the end of the game's development. I personally would speculate this is also why they don't show up in Mumbo's photos at the end of a 100% game finish. And the "Swop" half of SnS was not initially a misspelling, some programmer/developer secretly changed it and they liked it better that way so they kept it.
Forgot one more: the addition of the cheat codes to get the SnS items was also a last minute addition, a kind of "just in case" backup. Well before the days of the internet and being able to hack games for their secrets, it was something the game devs could leak later if they needed to. They made them really long so they'd be difficult for anyone to just randomly find or guess
Great summary. I haven't read that comment thread in a while, but I remembered in Paul Machacek's twitter post he seemed confident in the ice key being the final unlock in BK, after going "full-circle". So perhaps in the other games we were supposed to first bring an egg to each (for example to the captain and say, the fridge), get our rewards, then finally round trip with the super code to unlock the master key, visit each game again which would all have icy locks, and collect our final rewards. The Mega Glowbo sounds like a cool final reward for BT; it's interesting to ponder what it could have been for the other games. The exact mechanics of unlocking the super code is also interesting to think about. Unless I'm mistaken it means the order of the unlocks had to be pre-determined. Otherwise you'd have to round-trip every game just to verify total "score" each time you obtained an egg which of course would be absurd. This despite no such rule existing (except for being potentially being hinted at in the addresses) in the memory checks for BK. So BK technically doesn't care which egg comes first but do expect the other games to come up with a linear order. Perhaps a bit counterintuitive if you had collected the games in the "wrong" order and would have had to wait until you owned say DK to start getting rewards. On the other hand you'd want to get that game pretty badly to unlock the rewards for the others. So it makes sense. You have any theories about that first unknown outgoing payload btw (0x1)?
@pokechamp3987 there was mention of a "full circle" after getting all the eggs, but I honestly think it was just a concept idea. BK was a completed cartridge with SnS intact as intended, there was no master code or ultimate unlock found anywhere in it's coding. It could have been something they might have implemented to another game, but where the mechanic was scrapped so early in, there's really no saying what could have transpired if it was left to play out. BK doesn't care what comes first as far as the codes go, Ice Key was just the first item they knew they wanted for the next game in development which was DK64. The other eggs would have then been assigned to later developed games, which had not even been greenlit at that point, but you can probably guesstimate what those titles would have been from the sequence of Rare games developed after BK1.
I just skimmed through the thread again. Conflicting reports about the key on the surface between these two people. They might still be talking about the same thing, just phrasing it a bit differently (and remembering some parts more than others). Both mention a full-circle collectable with the thread guy clarifying his earlier references to a super code just meant the last of the regular codes in the chain to "confirm the joined-up sequence". Regarding the key he was unsure if it was meant for BT or DK so I still think it very well could have been someone planned the key to be the final item to be obtained in BK, to then be used in all games. Sounds like it was all eggs at first, then someone came up with the last minute idea to make one of them the key.
@pokechamp3987 it was also 20+ years ago, a lot can easily be misremembered, as well as it being such an early concept, there could have easily been changes made later. There's enough evidence through CTR on DK64 to support that ice key was in fact meant for that game to start, however. Could it have been used later for something else? Sure. It's just a code, it could have easily been programmed on another game to do a cool thing.
Loved the video, I enjoyed your added theories to pad out the iceberg, in particular the Jiggies as religious artifacts, B&K being the chosen ones, and the ancient ones resembling them. You should consider doing more theory-crafting. Also something odd (to do with Tower of Tragedy quiz of course) I noticed - you mentioned the grey Jinjos getting taken out by Hag-1's first trip - but Grunty takes credit for killing them in one of her ToT questions. Which means she deliberately got her sisters to run them over on their way back to Cauldron Keep. She went cuckoo being under that rock for so long, huh?
I just started watching but it was such a throwback to hear the mention of Mandolin from the RWP! I used to frequent those forums as a kid (pre-Nuts and Bolts release), and I still look back on those memories fondly now that I’m in my 30s. I remember they had a pretty great April Fools’ prank one year (which they started as far back as February for believability) involving supposedly finding the unfinished but still usable remnants of Stop N Swop through data mining the game (including new never before seen eggs). It was a ROM hack of course, but they were so dedicated with making it believable! Thanks for the vid!
The Callback motifs in Nuts and Bolts music goes further, being in different areas of Showdown Town plays other level's music in the background, such as being near the Docks by Boggy's Gym will cause the main track of Rusty Bucket Bay to play in the background faintly every now and then.
the three signs behind jiggywiggy always bugged me cause two of them are hints for cheatcodes, but the red roof is just a treble clef so i remember being convinced there must be a cheat hint related to the roof somehow but never finding it
It's weird how everyone always forgets the left over cutscene that always plays, when you defeat in your play session the first bird enemy from Click Clock Wood in Banjo Kazooie.
55:40 Maybe they represent Banjo's and Kazooie's ancestors meaning that they are part of ancient, important bloodlines. Perhaps that would be one of the extra reasons why Grunty considered Tooty important enough to kidnap, besides her youth. That's my fun speculation.
Your channel will grow and grow man. This was a great video! I learnt so much. I have an independent music channel currently at 2.3k. The grind is real but this will do very well
The Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts concept art (Mainly the Humba ones for exemple): [Exists] Me, as I watch the video: [Recognise the style of Jolly Jack. To make it short, they do make pretty ladies, like a lot] Nice video!
52:06 if you go there while playing as mumbo he’s laughing and standing there and un-interact-able (i had to hyphen it because it’s not a real word) BUT i did do this after attempting and failing to fight him so maybe that has to happen first.
Great video - if you dont mind me saying, concerning Stop N Swop, I made a 2 hour documentary about it on my channel. It answers every question. And no, the rewards we got are not what were planned originally, because they never planned prizes for BT. We actually have known for awhile now DK was linked to SNS, I am surprised the decompile community were unaware. Subdrag and Runehero discovered links years ago before the decompile.
at 42:56 you struggled with the acronym, but it's formally called South By South West. Which is honestly easier to say then it's acronym. Some even just call it "South by". Just btw. great vid :D
20:13 Haha in the german localisation the Flower Pods "thank you" is translated to "Danke" what means the same... But when you think about , that's the only spoken line in the Game it became somewhat weird to translating it in other languages.
I never knew about Jingaling's statue head in Spiral Mountain and I played Grunty's Revenge a fair bit! I think I noticed it but I didn't notice the crown and make the connection. Knowing that Grunty usurped Spiral Mountain, that reminds me that there's a theory that Mumbo is a Jinjo, so I wonder if he was the Royal Magician and he tried to stop Grunty from taking over Spiral Mountain.
I remember buying Nuts & Bolts, excited to see Banjo years after his classic adventures in HD... only to have weird car building as the main focus and a mechanic that over-powered the whole game. Imagine purchasing the next Super Mario obviously, only for it to be a Mario Paint HD remaster.
Is it weird that Banjo-Tooie has the towers of tragedy as its last part of the game when it was also was released in the year 2001 and two towers happened to have been tragically destroyed in the year 2001 is banjo kazooie an inside job? 💀
Ive got an idea for the cursed honeycombs sometimes dripping extras. Basically, maybe the hitbox for the fire glitches sometimes when it lines up right and kills the enemy twice? Total guess
Awesome video you made here, was entertaining to watch 😊 Also, this video is the first time I realize Banjo-Threeie was meant to be a joke in the first place (if it’s true, then omg) 😮
@@brzt4256 But a whale shark is not grey like a conventional shark, but I won't take that as serious, because It was still very early in development, but no, It's not a whale shark also because of clanker's mouth. It is pointy just like the most known shark species. And clanker has that hole on It's back nowadays, so It was a shark since the start, just a shark with a hole on It's head. Maybe they did It like that to test, or to make clanker be more like a normal shark, but that was modified to be a trash triturator as in the released game, but instead of being totally covered in metal, gruntilda just completely modified his inside.

This video is phenomenal and your sense of humor is amazing. I laughed out loud a couple times while watching this. Subbing for sure!
0:36 hey I made that
31:23 Fun fact: that Mumbo skin was designed by Mark Brown (from the Game Maker's Toolkit channel) as part of a Kameo skin design competition.
Iceberg isn’t a dead meme for me! Keep it up
Loved the video, I enjoyed your added theories to pad out the iceberg, in particular the Jiggies as religious artifacts, B&K being the chosen ones, and the ancient ones resembling them.
I’m really enjoying this video! I’ve seen many icebergs and this one was entertaining.
Love me some banjo kazooie!
Great breakdown, really enjoyed it! Learned a couple things i didnt know before.
great video! always nice to see some new BK theories and learn things I never knew about before :) keep it up!
Man you're funny af I subbed right away ngl
Perhaps they gave Mr. Fit more of a role in Nuts 'n Bolts because they originally wanted to do more with him in BT
According to Gregg Mayles, he just brought back Mr. Fit "because he was so daft". As good a reason as any, methinks!
Apparently Markiplier was one of the participants at the BK kinect showcase at 43:02
Useless but fun tidbit
Very well made my guy, keep up the fun videos.
Enjoyed every second of this video! Very well made
That was a really interesting iceberg, I learned a few things about Banjo-Kazooie
The Callback motifs in Nuts and Bolts music goes further, being in different areas of Showdown Town plays other level's music in the background, such as being near the Docks by Boggy's Gym will cause the main track of Rusty Bucket Bay to play in the background faintly every now and then.
Great video! I look forward to seeing more content from you!
/ a new fan from Sweden
the three signs behind jiggywiggy always bugged me cause two of them are hints for cheatcodes, but the red roof is just a treble clef so i remember being convinced there must be a cheat hint related to the roof somehow but never finding it
Great video man I love banjo & kazooie! Keep up the good work
I liked the litte Rhythm heaven sting at the Pregnancy bit
Please do more on this Iceberg it was very interesting and insightful also please do an iceberg on DK 64 and especially Diddy Kong Racing
Good humor you used in this, enjoyed the rhyme ending.
Great vid man - you deserve way more subs. Keep it up :)
54:10 she always comes back!
wait🐰🧟♂️🤖
That joke at the end of Banjo-Tooie should not have been a joke. This game should have been a true trilogy.
Best Banjo iceberg out there. I didn't know Mingy Jongo's skull was random I thought it was blue every time
I am thoroughly enjoying this video.
Your channel will grow and grow man. This was a great video! I learnt so much. I have an independent music channel currently at 2.3k. The grind is real but this will do very well
Hoping the best for you, thanks for the kind words :)
The Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts concept art (Mainly the Humba ones for exemple): [Exists]
Me, as I watch the video: [Recognise the style of Jolly Jack. To make it short, they do make pretty ladies, like a lot]
Nice video!
And Tiptup! Tiptup is a Banjo character too!
52:06 if you go there while playing as mumbo he’s laughing and standing there and un-interact-able (i had to hyphen it because it’s not a real word)
BUT i did do this after attempting and failing to fight him so maybe that has to happen first.
Just btw. great vid :D
good video, hope to see more from you!
Excellent video. So much stuff I had no idea about.
Even as a tiny little kid, I thought "Banjo-Threeie" was obviously a joke.
Releasing clanker was hard because you had to be quick before you ran outta air.
36:15 oh hey that’s me xD
BTW, great video!
What a wonderfully made video
27:28
"GUH-HUH! Press A to play the game."
Great video, very entertaining and funny!
29:00 My satisfying factory building was abruptly halted. So yes.
Where has THIS been the last 3 days
glad you mentioned the VHS tape. I have a copy of that!
We ARE still waiting.
20:13 Haha in the german localisation the Flower Pods "thank you" is translated to "Danke"
what means the same...
But when you think about , that's the only spoken line in the Game it became somewhat weird to translating it in other languages.
Awesome video man!
I still have the banjo VHS
Finishing a puzzle then coming across a video talking about a game that uses jigsaws as their puzzles.
ePIC WIN!
i play by my own rules.
Also, amazing video. I rarely sit through a whole video no distractions just watching, but this one i did.
@29:00 You were 100% accurate XD I was just playing this on my left monitor and talking to a friend on the right monitor and just WHAT?!
Nice work, I subscribed
Total guess
57:06 the only problem with that theory is that basically everyone banjo and Kazooie meet apparently just have a “religious artifact”
Solid iceberg my guy! Subbed because I'm what is referred to as an addict.
Solid video for less than a hundred subscribers! You got a sub from me dude!
One hour of pure entertainment.
I actually slowed down to .25x speed for your rant so I could hear it all.
u sound like u walk around ur house in slow motion for fun
@@Ashley3AndKnuckles no I just wanted to hear what he was saying
YT recommended me this video, good stuff!
29:00 Ah...😨
awesome video dude
Bro, you missed out that Klungo has his own pop song
Awesome video you made here, was entertaining to watch 😊
Also, this video is the first time I realize Banjo-Threeie was meant to be a joke in the first place (if it’s true, then omg) 😮
Nice video. I liked it.
clanker would have been a shark* not a whale. sea mammals have horizontal tails
Perhaps a whale shark?
@@brzt4256 But a whale shark is not grey like a conventional shark, but I won't take that as serious, because It was still very early in development, but no, It's not a whale shark also because of clanker's mouth. It is pointy just like the most known shark species. And clanker has that hole on It's back nowadays, so It was a shark since the start, just a shark with a hole on It's head. Maybe they did It like that to test, or to make clanker be more like a normal shark, but that was modified to be a trash triturator as in the released game, but instead of being totally covered in metal, gruntilda just completely modified his inside.
Man I wish they'd polish off Bottles' Revenge and implement it into the Switch Online version. Would be so much fun
I'll admit, I was that one person.
