      depends, in 35 years I have handled boas, I have not been able to remove the reflex to pull my arm back. I can't, that's what anyone does and that's where it hurts the most. If this boy had pulled back quickly, the damage would have been significantly worse.

    • @leahfareta9581
      @leahfareta9581 3 года назад +1

      Dude this is just a warning bite, maybe the ball python attack was a food response , the teeth could go deeper into the flesh and of course, if it gets twisted in the arm it causes more pain

    • @EmeraldBayMovies
      @EmeraldBayMovies 7 месяцев назад

      It 100% depends on where you get bit. Their teeth are big enough to puncture a large vein on several parts of your body. Also as someone else mentioned, pulling your hand away could cause a serious laceration requiring stitches.

    Beautiful Boa despite its attitude. I'll forever be partial to the naturally occuring forms and their instincts. You're brave af, I'll take colubrid bites all day but my boa & pythons, Nope. When I have got bit it was a food response bite, full wrap, cool scar but not fun at all.
    Way to take 1 for the team man.

    • @RadiantReptilia
      @RadiantReptilia  6 лет назад +4

      Actually, I think a food strike would be considerably worse, because they latch on much harder and pull on your flesh. A defensive strike like these are much quicker and less damaging.

If that boa had been properly raised, housed, and handled regularly, you probably couldn't have made this video.

    Doing it for the love of the snakes. You guys both rock. I feel like almost every pet we commonly keep has got a more dangerous defense (cats, rabbits, dogs, parrots) than nomvenemous snakes, our minds just go on high alert messing with a snake.

    • @leahfareta9581
      @leahfareta9581 3 года назад +5

      yes, if it's a warning bite like this in the video (usually the teeth, snakes, don't pull them out completely when it comes to quick bites) but trust that a bite from a large constrictor who mistakes you for food is quite a lot dangerous and painful. In addition to snakes I also work with dogs in particular breeds that are difficult to handle and some time ago my aunt's Argentine dogo attacked me, causing a serious injury to my arm, but compared to the pain that the bite of my reticulated python caused me it was nothing special .. So in my opinion it is wrong to pass the message "the bite of any non-venomous snake is less than that of any other pet" depends on how they bite you and what snake you are dealing with.

    It’s a testament to the peacefulness of these creatures that even an incredibly wild and fearful boa like this one still did everything it could to not bite, hissing, puffing up, bluffing etc. I’m in the process of taming down a 2.5 foot long rescue from incredibly bad conditions. She was abandoned to die in a rent house! She strikes occasionally but has never bitten. She was either outright ignored or even taunted. I’ve only had her for two days so far but I’ll be handling her every day to every other day (except for 24 hours after feeding) for 15 minutes a day until she gets accustomed to it. Patience, persistence and perhaps a few ouchies and I think she’ll be a fine specimen! There are no scary snakes, only scared snakes.

    How do you treat the wound? And what do you do if it doesn't let go? I adopted a boa constrictor recently, but he is still small. One day though, he will be big like this one, so I just want to be prepared to how to handle such a situation.

    • @SaleenSundria
      @SaleenSundria 5 лет назад

      Just treat it like any other wound. Disinfect it, bandage it up, and let it heal. If it doesn't let go, Snake discovery made a good video on how to make them let go. Common techniques are to put the snake's head under cold running water, another is to use a credit card (or something similar) to get the snake off kinda by force (But this has the risk of breaking the snake's teeth or hurting its mouth) and the one that worked for Emily (the person from Snake discovery) is putting vodka in a spray bottle and spritzing its mouth with it. they don't like the taste so they let go. People have also said that using mouthwash in the place of vodka works well too.
      Sorry if this is big and hard to read.

    If it ain't been touched or handled, THAT'S probably exactly why it's defensive. It's in its basic natural state with zero conditioning, and whenever it saw a person, it was some skiddish douche dancing in front of its face like a big warm predator. I've had a few snakes over the course of 5 or 6 years (2 ball pythons and a Suriname red tail), and I haven't been bitten, struck at or even hissed at ONCE. I'm not bragging, but I'm just preaching common sense. Don't stand in a threatening posture in front of the snake, watch where you move your hands, keep the head away, and take it slow. 3 snakes isn't veteran experience but being 3-for-3 on tameness says something at least. Be a tree; that's it. That adult boa will become puppy-dog-tame in relatively little time with patient, proper handling.

    TY for this. I had a Beautiful Colombian Red Tail that a friend left me with to care for back in early 90s named "Rosy". She was fairly loving unless eat time or blue eyed. Yeah. it's scary, but kinna like being electrocuted by low amps. it's Only 120 volts RIGHT? NOT! Bacteria from ANY Creature might get ya. Just like 20 volts but at 200 amps. (OVER!). SEE? 1 person snorts a perfectly balanced tiny bump of Cocaine and Dies; while next does a gram in 1 snort and fucks 5 chicks in 2 hours. (go figure), and another thinks its ok to let a non poisoness snake bite, and shouldn't be worried about the possible consequences.
    You Might Die! Just Saying! As sane goes: "Don't touch Bottom unless you really mean it." And Purposly enticing snake to bite whether for science or RUclips hits* is my opinion not cool. it's cool I saw someone else get bit as I did by My snake? No one really wanted to see that. Maybe some wanted to see it feed? cause that's pretty cool actually. Usually when I was mistakenly struck.
    Rosy went many places with me. Partys, Stores. Oh man, when the woman behind me saw rosy meet who was behind us in line at Circle K? YEE HaW! WOW was that fun. And when I got pulled over for no seat belt by Cops and he said QUOTE: "I don't have time for this, take your snake off and put your seat belt on." Was Soo funny. Or when we took her too Lake for Kegger Volleyball. Was Summer and Packed. He had a fairly large site lake shore. Rosy was just crusing in the grass and was slow and seemed to take time checking it all out. For like 30 minuets and we were about 20 feet from shore. Then she slowly made her way down too the Shore. Was long slope and very shallow for like 100 feet out. But not yet. I picked her up and reset up where we were all sitting. It was OVER! Rosy new she wanted that water. And as she was making her way down too the shore? A Jogger was getting close and It was a Path for disaster.
    As Jogger approached, he didn't seem to be looking where he was stepping. More looking at all the hot Babes in our party. And when he was about 10 feet from encountering a 6' Boa? We Said to him" HEY' Watch OUT! There's A Snake right There", and He Looked at us and almost started to smile* HA HA! Then he looked* and SAW! BOOM! DUDE Jumped like a escaped tire bouncing off freeway rails. Was probably the best reaction I ever saw from others reacting to Rosy. She Eventually made it too the Lake shore again.
    By Then; Many people had become spectators of Rosy and her first "Outdoor Romp' as far as on ground and near water. (LOL). But needless to say, Everyone there was for it. Let her into the water. I fought and thought and fought and thought, and 30 people in water to make barrier and keep her contained. Plus ME? Jeesh, I surly wanted Rosy to enjoy a "REAL SWIM" . Like a Dog in a Chuckar pen. Pure Heaven? Anyways. Was Pretty Cool. Made many "new Friends"* that day with her and threw out the day' Hundreds saw and met her and learned her non aggressiveness. (30 in water and 300 onshore by then! HA HA) Sounds Perfect! But the vet assumes she contracted a rare mite, while not visible' burrowed into her and she was dead before even had a chance. Probably from the water he said. Especially of a lot of birds. She passed at 6' 8 and I never knew her age. I cared for her for about 6 years and only grew a few in just those. Never weighed her either. She was Heavy. She was happy neck warmer. Never bit anyone other then me, and only by mistake. To be Honest? More people were freaked out watching me bang a rat in the head with a big wooden spoon. LMAO! Shake the Bag BABY! Shake IT GOOD!
    Oh my Gosh. Too Much. But sorry. I did it. Obviously chickens didnt need to be disoriented for feeding, and the baby rabbits were more run then defensive the rats are more so defensive sometime. Will know when buy them. The bigger they were, the more awnry it seemed? I don't know why. was long ago and i'm sure is a different protocol for this stuff now. BUT? Thats what I was told to do.
    I'm not telling NO ONE to do ANY THING ! I'm sharing my Experience Caring for a large snake for many years. At Least' my stupid Dog comesback after calling for an Hour!
    YEE HaW! Much Love ya all! Take care and make good decisions. 1 little bite can come back.
    Jaws .. ..... ...... >

      I can hardly read what you wrote but I get your point. People can be weird when faced with fear. It's sad to hear of her death, though, and I'm glad she lived a happy life with you.

    Ohh my female bci was so upset that i needed to bath her, so she just bite my arm witout any hiss or anything else. And she does this every time when she gets upset or angry or anything. Just silent bites and immediately releases :^(
