I got my first boa, BCC Suriname. She has been eating a large meal every 7 days and isn't looking obese. Very eager to eat after a week, everyone tells me to slow it down but she is not fat so I will keep going and keep a close eye on her weight. Not sure why she seems to eat more than what everyone tells me is normal

Its not “normal “ boa’s at a young age 0-6/6-12months will grow fast when you’re pumping them with food so they don’t really get “fat” but each time their heart and organs expand as they are consuming their meal and they are put onder stress . If you’re feeding it “large” meals weekly you’re limiting its lifespan significantly . Around 8 years they’re gone .You could feed weekly but their prey size should be considerably smaller that it almost doesn’t leave a lump in its body . I would recommend for a healthy feeding schedule: 0-6 months every 7/10 days 6-12 months 10-14 days 1-2 years every 2 weeks and you skip a week now and then. Around this period boas (if you’re feeding your boa too much )they can get fat noticeably . 2-2,5 years every 21 days same principle as before and 3+ years every 3 to 4 weeks . You can alternate in prey size time to time . Just take care of your boa there is no rushing it your boa will grow over time she/he wil get there .I highly suggest you look up the BoaPhile he has so much experience 40+ when it comes to boa’s there is still a lot of information out there that a lot of novice keepers just don’t know of yet and it can be really helpful to have a reliable source of good information available too you especially if you have such a wonderful delicate animal like an true red tailed boa :)

@@jeromek1806 Good info, I had no idea it could reduce her lifespan without being obese. She turned 6 months last week and currently has not eaten for 2 weeks because she's blue. I will move her to the adult mice I have instead of the larger chick meals

Honestly the reason why she's not being defensive which is cuz you're very careful how you handle her and you not making no sudden movements or anything so you're not spooking your you doing a good job though I got one too she's beautiful might as a lipstick sunglow jungle probably make any sudden movement she can send defensive position but she has never tried to bite me she gets ready just in case something tries to get at her
