I can’t stop cackling at the moves Kevin has. Snakes are so silly. I’m currently building my reptile room for my reptiles and friends and I’ve been trying to decide what I want to build as the final enclosure for my Central American boa (even though she’s only getting ready to be 1 and is still a small girl). This is a wonderful build and I absolutely will be referencing it when building mine!
Great setup & excellent video to show others how, I need to upgrade myself, had no idea I would get one of the rare cases, seems my boa is gunna bigger then normal, good for him;) your baby is gunna love it.
Awesome thanks for build video guys! How was managing the humidity & temp?? Any modifications have to be made to help?? Converting a big china cabinet for my Boa. Just been iffy about managing climate of taller enclosure.
Humidity isn’t an issue. With his big water dish and spraying down the cage when needed he’s been perfect. Temps are a little cooler than ideal down at the bottom but still perfectly fine for him. He can choose whenever he wants to go and the temp. So you should be good
@@gbliguanas1759 awesome thanks, Iv been second guessing myself and it’s turned my boa enclosure project in the never ending project 😂😂. Trying to get it all set up/on & stop trying to make perfect. Thanks for the reply & helpful video.
You could also put wheels on the bottom to make it mobile and if you had a snake that’s stays on the slimmer side you could get a hide that screws into the walls and sits like mid height or at the top of the cage
Woow it looks great!! Never knew exactly how to start building one. Your video really helpt me how to start building my self it got me so excited to make my 2 boa's each of them one for herself😁😁🐍🐍🐍🐍 thanks for the video!! 🎉
Question, getting ready to start doing my boa’s enclosure as well. for the paint part, is it necessary to put any type of sealant over it afterwards? Is it harmful if you don’t?
You did a fantastic job on the set up! I want to build a similar one for my boy Rocky Boa:) can you share how you did the doors and type of glass so I can order the same? Thanks a ton! Long live Kevin! :)
Thanks so much! The doors are just on a plastic track, I think it’s 1/4” but I honestly don’t remember hahaha. I had them cut from a local glass company
Hey there been a while since you posted this I know but does your boa use the hight ? Everything I've been told is boa constrictor climb while small but stop when big. My bcc doesn't seem to move much just from cold to warm hide and back .... does yours use the hight I would defo do this if I felt it was going to be used
Kevin uses every inch. What also helps is I have ceramic heat emitters at the top so the top branches are his basking spot lol. But he really does use every inch of this cage
I've built 3 of my own tanks but never painted any of them what kind of paint did you use? Also never thought to use that foam backing board I used plywood on the outside and sealed the entire inside with plexiglass then spray foamed over the entire thing shaped it and added silicone and mixed dirt all into it. Works great just don't leave a rat in there they will make a mess of your foam and quick.
For the exterior I just used regular spray paint for the white and then stained the wood. It had plenty of time to completely dry and air out. The foam is great! I used a high strength adhesive to stick it on. Of course gave it plenty of time to air out as well
My boa which is almost a year now is about to out grow his current cage and we plan on building something similar that will last his life thanks for the idea
I am currently building a cage my red tail boa Pedro. He's almost 2 years old. What wood did you use for your tank? I went with Birch. Still in the process of building it!
When I close my eyes, it sounds like a young john Goodman is building an enclosure for his snake. Also, I have also found that heat guns and torches create some awesome textures much more effectively than carving foam by hand.
Haha I’ll take that as a compliment! The heat gun worked incredibly well. I want to make some smaller backgrounds and mess around more with some different techniques
This is awesome! I just rescued a 5/6 ft boa and I am buying an enclosure similar to yours but I'm going to have to decorate it myself. Where did you get your branches from? Did you sterilize them in any way? And what type of paint did you use for the interior walls?
Thanks! They’re just branches from my backyard. I just made sure they were solid and not rotted and filled with creatures lol. No need to sterilize if you know your yard is clean and no pesticides or anything. The paint is tintable drylock and concrete tint to make the color
This is a truly awesome enclosure!! I have a boa about Kevin’s size and his name is Noodle and he is in dire need of a bigger house for activities. He loves to be out and to climb 🧗♀️ and smell the smells. Do you think that a large radiant heat panel would work in that size space or go with the heat emitters? Great video and it was fun watching you build.
Thanks! A radiant heat panel could work well too. As long as the enclosure is insulated enough to help keep the heat in and the basking area is close enough to get warm enough. The heat from the panels doesn’t radiate quite as far as ceramic heat emitters. So you just have to see how yours does.

No I just adhered it to the wood and then when I applied the dry lock and caulk, that sealed everything
