Another great series . Thanks for taking the time to make play lists . As a regular YT viewer it drives me nuts trying to find stuff on other channels. Yours is tip top ! Cheers
Just purchased mine and it should be here next week. Thank you so much for pulling together this series to help us get started with this new model. Cheers
Just ordered one today, looking forward to watching your series and learning everything I can about the radio. Seems a little overwhelming but cant wait. Thanks.
I ordered mine from here in the US a couple months ago and it came mode 2 and also with the throttle set up without being centered. So that was two less things I had to do! I was happily surprised.
Great video. However for Mode 2 the spring screw needs to be turned counter-clockwise to lower the spring in addition to the other directions you covered.
From the video from Frsky's official YT page, the first screw they turn releases the spring. Why would you omit that?? Locking the rocker seen as you have shown works but there is still some spring tension on the gimbal. Thanks for the tutorials. 👍
Have you done this yourself? There is no spring tension on the gimbal once the screw Painless360 shows is fully inserted. The actuator is completely disconnected from the spring. No reason to mess around with the other screw, although I suppose it wouldn't hurt anything.
Jack Deth Yeah, I tinkered around with both ways. There is slight spring tension when the gimbal is at the extreme up/down position if the spring is left unadjusted. For my quad in the arm position, I'd hate to have any tension on the gimbal despite the other clamp pressing down for friction.
have you looked into any better batteries yet ? I notice HK have a 2100Mah Li-FE 2cell battery for £13.99 but the shipping puts another £5 onto that price - so £20. I'm not getting a frsky nimh pack with mines, so I guess I'll be using AAs to begin with.
Don't have an OpenTx transmitter and this one looks like its perfect to learn on, PLUS I can use the JR Modules I use in my Turnigy 9XR PRO and ALL my X and L Receivers, Perfect. CHEERS !
Michael FPV Chiemgau waiting for OpenTX to be officially released. in the mean time we have a series on the X9D and a series on OpenTX called 'OpentX mix school'..
I have the original 9D+. which I love. When I got mine, it came WITH NiMH battery and X8R RX for $200. So, I guess this is slightly less in cost. Easy to setup. I would hope it is easy to transfer models from the 9D+ to this new model. Cheers.
Hey mate great video just a quick question im trying to use my taranis to controll two independent motors and esc on one stick for a rc bobcat build and i was wondering how to mix it so the motors will turn in oposite directions when i turn left or right Cheers👊
Good afternoon. I'm a new owner of a Qx7 and I have a port near the bottom on the right side (on the angled part of the radio) that is not on the radio in your video. Do you have any idea what this port does? This is not mentioned in the manual either. Thanks for your fantastic videos on opentx, it's made the learning experience quite enjoyable.
forum.flitetest.com/index.php?threads/what-is-this-port-on-the-qx7.55751/#lg=attachment116347&slide=0 Apparently it's a charging port for the battery. I've installed the Frsky rechargable battery and bought the charger but there is no cord on the charger to use that port. Any suggestions on the best / safest way to use this would be appreciated.
Hi Painless , love the videos. have you done one on setting up a two servo wing using two channels on the Q X 7 ? I've Got both working but I can't get the duel rates to work on both channels. Many thanks.
I’ve got loads of videos on OpenTX, check out the Mix School playlist. The easiest way to setup dual rates is to set them up in the inputs screen for the amount you want and then all of the associated outputs will get them automatically.. best of luck!
Great videos, thanks. I'm new to Taranis so these videos are most helpful. I've been advised to purchase the Q7 and the Xr8 receiver for my easystar2. I am fitting an action cam and using flaperons etc and need more than the 6 channels I currently have . Would you agree that this TX and rx is the way forward? Thanks again. Mick.
@@Painless360 thanks mate, thanks for keeping things simple. You explain things in a very simple and methodical way accounting for the fact that some of us aren't that advanced yet. Lots of videos I see from others forget the basics and assume know everything already. Cheers mick
Dino Zuzic download the SD card contents using the Companion software. I've also linked and showing the process in the LUA Script video I did a couple of weeks ago too. Happy flying!
Great thanks very much. Just want to say that you're an amazing teacher. Your videos are excellent and explain everything so it's very easy to understand.
I have finally received the QX7. Compared to the transmitters I've been using this is a foreign beast for sure. Two questions, 1. Does the SD card have to remain in the QX7 for the voice and etc to work. Or can the data be loaded into the QX7 and the SD card removed? 2. Do you know if an OrangeRX (DSM2/X) module will work in this transmitter? Or will I have to purchase the multi-protocol? Regards and thanks for the mountain of information your channel provides.
It does feel bloomin 'odd' if it's the first time with OpenTX! See out Taranis and OpenTX mix school videos for a quick way to get your head around the differences.. In answer to the questions - 1) Yes 2) Yes but you'll need a DSM2/X JR module for it.. Hope that helps! :D
This is a great video tutorial. Thanks so much for sharing the info! Although I'm having an issue connecting my q7x to my Mac to run the RDLsimulator. Any tips, thoughts, or videos to share? That'd be so helpful. Thanks again!
Painless360 no worries about a video; found plenty online and bought a new USB-C cable today. It works! Now to make those you'd showed here. Sweet! 😎 thanks for your help!!
I’m totally fascinated with drone technology. And I’m starting from scratch with remote control. What’s the best guidelines to follow for setting up your controller? I’m so non knowledgeable I don’t know where to begin programming a controller. Step 1
See my quadcopter building for beginners series on the channel. There are about 4... Also, this mini series on how the power, control and FPV systems work in a modern multirotor can help with the jargon too - ruclips.net/video/xPDc6r6nRTU/видео.html
Informative as always! Quick question: So I've seen a lot of comparisons with the Taranis X9D and the Turnigy Evolution but how does this compare to it? And what would you recommend for those starting out?
This radio will do almost everything that a X9D will for a lot less money. The Evolution is a great little radio but has a fraction of the model memories can capabilities of OpenTX but is very portable and a piece of cake to setup.. For a new starter that is expecting to fly multiple models (fixed wing and quads) then I'd say it's the Q X7, for those pilots who will just have a few models and they will all be quads then the Evolution is a great idea. Happy flying!
Your videos are so helpful I really appreciate your channel. I just received my qx7 and it came with no sd card. I bought an sd card and copied sound folder from my x9d and when i inserted it into the qx7 and turned it on I see a brief message saying "Expected OpenTX 2.2". I don't seem to be able to connect the radio via usb to my opentx program to edit models etc. my xd9 you hold the trim switches while powering on, this does not work with qx7, is there a trick? A video on setting up the sd card would be very helpful. Thanks again and have a great fly day.
I simply copied the files as per the video. I didn't do anything else. Make sure that the file called opentx.sdcard.version is in the root directory of the SD card.. ;)
I don't understand.. At the beginning of the video you said, later on in the series you would be flashing the radio to Open TX 2.2 but when you read what firmware was on the radio already you said it was Open TX 2.2..
We've talked about what 2.2 will do when it's finally out on the channel before. The final OpenTX 2.2 is not released yet(github.com/opentx/opentx/milestone/26). This is an FrSky version of 2.2 created in December. The final 'real' version of 2.2 will have more features and improved telemetry.. Stay tuned! ;)
Hello. Before my question I have to say that I love your videos, very good and clear explained. It's a great service that you do for all of us that we love the RC hobby. And now the question. On Telemetry, at properties of each Telemetry parameter there are options of Log and Persist. Log is clear but you know what this Persist option is ?. I look a lot on RUclips and I don't find somebody that speak about this option. Thanks a lot. Sorin
Hello, I have a Q X7 and a Flysky/Turnigy (AFHDS) module to go along with it to bind to my QX90c Flysky BNF but I just can't seem to bind it! Help needed! This is my first hobbygrade transmiter.
+Andre Martinez I've not tried that module here. I recommend making sure that the module and the radio are happy together, after that then it's the Binding process. It's worthwhile asking the vendor for some help if they're selling the product they should have a rough idea of how to get it working. I hope you get it sorted soon. Best of luck
Thanks for replying to each of my comments. I really appreciate it! After more explorations with the transmitter and cleanflight I was able to get them to work together :)!
I see that user ooOoo has a really nice throttle cut set up, but he doesn't specify how he achieved it, and his comments are disabled. Any chance you cover this action anywhere, or can point me to someone who has? Thank you. -Christopher
hii, awesome Information as usual painless 360... i have it out the box and i could flash it but the taranis doesn't read the SD card... any help? anything to do it with the mass storage? any video with the proper steps? I'm new on this lol thanks guys
I have just started to get into this hobby, as a kid I used to be well into my nitro cars and back then all I can remember is TX's used crystals. Now a days it seems a lot different to what I remember. I have just bought one of these, but I don't understand the module business? Would I be able to Buy a frsky receiver and just bind it or do I need a module too ?
+mikeypfc89 have a look at the Taranis videos as almost all the basics are the same for both radios. You will need a receiver only. You can then bind it to the radio. Best of luck!
It is the FCC version. The receiver already installed in your aircraft have EU-LBT. What about compatibility and rewriting the firmware version? Thank you for make us life easier. It is the best channel. :)
I was afraid to order, but now, if I see that you have one in hand, I feel more secure. I think I fried my Taranis X9D Plus. And until it is repaired, Q X7 seems a good alternative for backup. Unfortunately, the black version is now Under restocking... Thank you for your kindness and support.
This is something that I've already made a video or two about. Please see this video - ruclips.net/video/P4soR6QgOk0/видео.html - that should help you find those videos of mine and help you find the answers you need quickly
great video I have a turnigy 9x and it's about time to upgrade this is what I was thinking about this one. will you be doing more videos? I will need it 😂
Does the upper left pot slider have a screw on the back that can be tightened that will create bump indication of 50%. I doubt it does, but since a similar adjustment is an "option" on the gimbals it made me curious.
New (Q X7) radio setup tips etc very interesting. Just got one (Open Tx 2.2.0 17/5/17 pre-installed), new to all this but must admit astonished by lack of any official documentation, so channels like this are a life saver. Even basic stuff like how to get into boot mode, radio setup etc! I've read that Taranis is excellent but steep learning curve - that's no understatement. Do you have anything on how to connect to PC / Android etc to use gimbals on a simulator? Tearing my hair out as nothing will recognise it at all (doesn't even show up as unknown device on a PC, not seen as 'new hardware'). Tried several cables, two W10 PCs (laptop / desktop) and two Android devices via OTG, and absolutely nothing happens, although I notice in boot mode Q X7 does say 'USB connected', and also Q X7 will not switch on if USB cable already connected at the time. Any points to info, answers etc, gratefully received.
I have a couple of huge series on both the radio and OpenTX programming tips and tricks, from the very basic to some advanced stuff. ruclips.net/video/XlR5eqm1aKE/видео.html may help with the simulator setup..
Painless360 For some reason I couldn't make the end points to go down to 1000 and go up to 2000 in betaflight receiver tab. Receiver tab shows 1093 - 1935.
+Ronn2664 what does the servo tab say question mark you can see the values of the channel in the top as you move the stick for the channel that highlighted...
I got the banggood version with the battery, but I would worry about having to disconnect and reconnect the battery for charging purposes in case this might eventually lead to damage! I noticed that you only tightened down one screw to set the throttle stick (the frSky video also adjusts the spring screw by turning clockwise); any reason you didn't do this, though I can see you didn't need to?
Thank you - I learnt everything I know about the original Taranis X9d+ from you, so I'm following your method! Am I justified in worrying about the disconnecting and reconnecting of the supplied battery, or should I not worry? Feel I might end up almost preferring the Q7 to the X9d+ for my quad flying as crazy as it sound!
Hi Lee, Having switched the radio to a nicad, is there a charging port? or are you restricted to removing the battery and charging using a regular bench charger ? Thx
+bdg4512 sorry, we've not used any real tiny whoops here. I assume it was something to do with channel value, travel order. I'd have a look in the forums for more clues. Best of luck with it!
Depends on what you want to use the radio for and if the one you have is working well for you. I don't tend to replace radios unless you have a problem or want to have some of the extra features of the new radio (programming flexibility, more memory, cheaper receivers etc.). Best of luck!
thanks for the advice. My AT9 works great, I just really love the look of the radio and the GUI. Ill get this hopefully when the price goes down a little
+SvPVids we are testing this at the moment. Should be five with any of the x series receivers but make sure you get one with the right firmware on (LBT etc)
Hey Painless I purchased a used Taranis QX7S to replace my Taranis QX7 and I removed the SD card from the previous owner and I inserted my SD card from my radio and I don't see my models but I do see the last owners models. How do I get the QX7S to recognize my SD cards models? Thanks in advance! 👍✈️
hey i got my qx7 and x4r sb and i got binded and the rx has a solid green light and seems to be right but i cant get it to actully control the quad or it wont do anything in the betaflight reciever and modes tab. im using the betaflight f3 fc and im so frustrated i cant figure thi out
I burnt my internal RF module on my Taranis QX7. Can I use XJT external module and still have the telemetry working? I'm currently using DJT but I don't know how to connect the telemetry with my taranis.
Sorry, not sure. If you've burnt out the on-baord you can also get a replacement internal main board for the radio, I can't find all the spares for the q X7 listed yet but the one for the X9D is about £45...
yeah, can't find any replacement either. Maybe a few months later there will be any replacements or mods available. But for the mean time I want to use XJT module. I hope the transmitter will read the telemetry from the module. I've explore the menu on QX7 and what I know is Taranis QX7 reads XJT differently than DJT. We can change the mode on XJT (D-16, D-8, etc) from the transmitter menu. So I assume the transmitter can communicate with XJT and reads the telemetry without modding. I don't know if it will works that way tho. Still waiting for my XJT module.
I tried to change the original antenna with a higher gain antenna. It turned out that my TX came with an antenna direct soldered into the board, unlike what I usually see on youtube that came with a UFL connector. So I un-solder the antenna, solder the new one, then voila, I lost my RF board. Tested it with multimeter (continuity mode) and the signal pad shorted with the ground, even when I remove the cable. It was all my fault.
+Francis Luther any x series receiver should work. Make sure it has the same firmware (EU LBT or 'normal') to match your radio though. You can flash receivers with the new FW if you need to though..
I don't understand why they didn't put the screen above the sticks, just over the antenna on this one, it's way more visible when looking down on it for telemetry data and such during flight (Some of us still actually do fly LOS from time to time ;) )
Myster Ikan yea so why not with this one as well since it's a winning concept. The display position on this and the original taranis is an old heritage from old transmitters where you didn't have telemetry
+Rene Larsen sorry, I've not tried either of these. We like the FS-i6s as a radio for first time Drone pilots and the Taranis QX7 for those who want to have more models and options. If you can afford it, the Taranis X9D is great..
Hello, I'm setting up a logical switch for arming. When going to the mixer tab, I set L4 to arm, but cannot set !L4 (not L4) to disarm. Any idea how to do this on the Q X7?
Painless360 I saw your video using the Spektrum DM9 on the taranis x9d. I was wondering of you've tried it on the qx7. I tried my Spektrum DM9 on my qx7 and it works fine except the midpoinst are off by 32. Betaflight receiver tab shows 1532 midpoints. Also couldn't get 1000 min and 2000 max. Qx7 shows 1000-2000 endpoints but betaflight shows 1093-1970 which so odd. Don't know if the problem is the DM9 or the Qx7. Can you please let know if you have the same issue using the DM9 with the Qx7? Thanks.
Time will tell with the new Q X7 but all of the initial testing has been very positive. You get a larger screen and more switches on the X9D, handy if you fly more scale craft. The Q X7 will do what 90% of pilots will want.. Just waiting for the 'real' OpenTX 2.2! :D
How do you charge the fry sky battery pack? New to fpv and purchased one , but it’s dyeing now and I don’t know how to charge it but I don’t want to purchase another one.
It depends on the radio and type of battety pack you have. I usually remove the battery and charge it outside the radio. See my RC Basics video about batteries and charging... best of luck
Hi painless, just got my qx7 this week and couldn't believe my luck when I saw your new video series, I set up my x9d+ using your videos back in the day and love your easy to follow videos👍 So I just downloaded the sd card data using your link, unzipped it, installed the data on a card no problem. Now when I switch the transmitter on I get a sd card warning saying , "expected ver 2.2V0004" I can't backup models to sd card and I have tried this with two different cards both formatted before I installed the frsky data on them Also there is no bootloader mode when I pinch the trims together and switch on like the x9d does. And my menus look different, I can't find a calibration option Other than that I have bound it to a xr4sb in ppm mode no problem at all Have I got a dud? Purchased in the uk so returning it won't be a headache Thanks
The files from the FrSky site are made for the radio, if you are 'adding' to them using files from a previous version then this is the error you get. Things like the Amber voice pack will cause this.. This is why we're waiting for the 'real' 2.2 to come out and we can show all the steps.. Best of luck!
Painless360 thanks for your reply but I don't understand, I haven't added anything other than what is on that frsky download page for the qx7 does it make sense to you that I cant backup a model to the card ? And that I can't enable the bootloader screen ? And I haven't got calibration in the menus? I'm really lost with this at the moment
OK, may have figured this out as I can get the rado here to give the same error. Make sure you have the file 'open.sdcard.version' in the root of the SD card.. If it's not there then the error appears..
Hello Pianlesa360! Does this Transmitter support L9R and S8R Receiver? Thank you and waiting for your response. And which receiver would you suggest for a fixed wing with this Transmitter
hello...I have a GT2 200 and I have the qx7 Taranis with xsr...I've hooked it up.and I have the green solid light from xsr..but GT2 keeps beeping and on betaflight the aux not moving on receiver part
Some specs for this say 7 channel, some say 'upto 16'... Is there some understanding of what is a channel that I am missing? Am I safe to assume I will get more than 7 channels using an XSR?
16 is you're using an s-bus connection from the receiver. It depends on the receiver type and connection. PWM is usually 4-8 channels, PPM is 8 and S-Bus is 16.. Happy flying!
how do i charge the battery that came with it? also, mine came with 2.2, does that mean when i add the 4in1 module i don't need to download anything for it to work internally? thanks
Sorry to bother you again, but I'm trying to load the sounds files into the QX7. I have the files on an SD card and that works just fine. However when I try to down load those same files from my PC to the QX7 using a USB cable, I get a refusal saying there is not enough room in the Taranis. I also tried copying the files from the SD card and pasting to the Taranis and get the same refusal. Am I missing something? Those files are not large.
You can add a switch to any channel you want in OpenTX and EdgeTX. You just need to know what channel that flight controller uses for modes. It is usually CH5 or Ch6... Best of luck!
Hi, I bought the Frsky 2000 mAh NiMh version of the green battery pack. I also bought the Sky RC imax B6 mini for charging LiPo batteries, which also charges NiMh batteries, but doesn't seem to charge the battery when I plug the 2s balance plug in. Can you recommend a charger to charge this green battery pack? Thanks
Painless360 Am I right in saying that I'll need a female jst-xh plug, attached to two wires which are attached at the other end to banana plugs to fit into my charger?
Painless360 Thanks, I bought a jst-xh extension off eBay, snipped off the male end and soldered on 2 x 4mm bullet connectors, heat shrinked. Currently charging and ready to go in my taranis for the weekend! What voltage level should I expect the 7.2v 2000mah pack to top-off at?
Hey dude, I need help. I have a Taranis Q X7 controller, which worked perfectly for months. But a problem just appeared, when the sticks are centered, it shows on the screen that they are actually not, they're at about a 2.5 degree angle, both of them. This affects flying pretty badly, do you know how I could fix this ?
Hi, I just purchased the FrSky 7.2V AA 2000mAh NiMH battery, and I've read it can be charged with the IMAX B6 Mini, but I can only plug the connector into the balance port, and it will not charge that way. Do I need to buy an adapter? If so, can you link me one that will work?
thanx for your reply,,, I cant see any sticker on it so i'll assume its non eu,, I have a couple of xm+ recievers,, will I have to flash them with non eu firmware?
In Taranis X9D Plus using a multiprotocol TX module (as well as any other module) resulted in a noticeable latency (~40 ms or so). Did FrSky solve this issue in Q X7?
hey bud I don't know if I'm using the right sd card or what but I'm getting a sd card warning on the qx7? using sdhc wondering if that's why the sound isn't working. updated firmware to 2.2 already.
Blazin Fpv I get the same thing on mine using a 32gb sdhc but it works. I've got sounds and it let's me update firmware. I can't get the thing to bind to a brand new x4rsb with correct firmware though :/
Not sure as different people seem to have got different things (some have not received the extra battery for example). I'd check with BG.. Best of luck!
This hole menu is changed do you got maybe a newer vid? I yust bought one and i download that from the site(sd card content) and it give a warning sd card at the start (as wel as the failsavewarning)
+Bennie Leip not sure what you're referring to as everything in this video is still current. Please see the rest of the series for any other questions you may have. Best of luck
Painless360 i downloadet it from open tx (sd card content) site for so far so good yust have to solder a new receiver and bind it (used to use a devo7😒 thats why) but thnks for replaying👍🏻
Another great series . Thanks for taking the time to make play lists . As a regular YT viewer it drives me nuts trying to find stuff on other channels. Yours is tip top ! Cheers
Thanks Jeroen Romana bought it with this awsome deal!
Just purchased mine and it should be here next week.
Thank you so much for pulling together this series to help us get started with this new model.
Cheers
Great radio, you'll love it! :D
I'll be watching this series as my Q X7 is on it's way. Keep in mind that this is my first Taranis when explaining things. Thanks!
I'd suggest watching the Taranis series on the channel. We cover the basics in the first 4-5 videos and the basics are identical..
All of your taranis videos really helped me alot with setting up my new QX7, thanks alot for all the info and keep up the good work 👍
Just ordered one today, looking forward to watching your series and learning everything I can about the radio. Seems a little overwhelming but cant wait. Thanks.
Great stuff. much easier to follow than the manual. Thanks.
I ordered mine from here in the US a couple months ago and it came mode 2 and also with the throttle set up without being centered. So that was two less things I had to do! I was happily surprised.
yay! thanx for making this series!
Really straightforward and clear. Excellent review/guide
Great video. However for Mode 2 the spring screw needs to be turned counter-clockwise to lower the spring in addition to the other directions you covered.
We showed all the steps we used to sort out the throttle spring here.. Happy flying!
Nah, you are parroting that other guy who simply made a mistake. Painless360 is the one to watch.
For my quad in the arm position, I'd hate to have any tension on the gimbal despite the other clamp pressing down for friction.
fantastic video, timing is spot on - my Q X7 should be arriving Saturday.
Hope you like it was much as we do - this looks like the best value for money radio we've tried to date.. Time will tell how it holds up..
have you looked into any better batteries yet ? I notice HK have a 2100Mah Li-FE 2cell battery for £13.99 but the shipping puts another £5 onto that price - so £20. I'm not getting a frsky nimh pack with mines, so I guess I'll be using AAs to begin with.
Finally, a Taranis for the rest of us poor folks. Will put this on my Xmas wish list maybe next year.
The white one looks too much like a toy, though.
I thought so too, but it's growing on me and it a better background for stickers! ;)
Here 5 years later with the radio a bought all that time ago getting back in to it.
Don't have an OpenTx transmitter and this one looks like its perfect to learn on, PLUS I can use the JR Modules I use in my Turnigy 9XR PRO and ALL my X and L Receivers, Perfect. CHEERS !
It is a lovely radio and excellent value for money! :D
would love to see this series
Michael FPV Chiemgau waiting for OpenTX to be officially released. in the mean time we have a series on the X9D and a series on OpenTX called 'OpentX mix school'..
Great info as norm, keep up the good work dude !
great tips.i love qx7 tips
Check out the Opentx mix school series for more...
I have the original 9D+. which I love. When I got mine, it came WITH NiMH battery and X8R RX for $200. So, I guess this is slightly less in cost. Easy to setup. I would hope it is easy to transfer models from the 9D+ to this new model. Cheers.
thanks for the info, I'm waiting for mine to come can't wait 👍
Lovely little radio! :D
Hi Painless, Have you done a video on setting up the timer on the QX7 ?
Nice ordering one next week or would you recommend the x7s?
Hey mate great video just a quick question im trying to use my taranis to controll two independent motors and esc on one stick for a rc bobcat build and i was wondering how to mix it so the motors will turn in oposite directions when i turn left or right
Cheers👊
I've done a video on that in the Opentx mix school. It was for a tracked model but it is the same setup. Best of luck
Thanks mate huge help i was a bit stuck
Good afternoon. I'm a new owner of a Qx7 and I have a port near the bottom on the right side (on the angled part of the radio) that is not on the radio in your video. Do you have any idea what this port does? This is not mentioned in the manual either. Thanks for your fantastic videos on opentx, it's made the learning experience quite enjoyable.
Do you have a picture?
forum.flitetest.com/index.php?threads/what-is-this-port-on-the-qx7.55751/#lg=attachment116347&slide=0
Apparently it's a charging port for the battery. I've installed the Frsky rechargable battery and bought the charger but there is no cord on the charger to use that port. Any suggestions on the best / safest way to use this would be appreciated.
Thanks for the image, I've not had that on the ones here.. Happy flying! :D
Thank you!
Great Video as usual, I have a question??? How do you charge the supplied battery, what kind of connector do i need??
+S Dunham it plugs in using a lipo 2s balance connection. Happy flying!
Mick.
Yep - see the OpenTX and rest of this series.. OpenTX can appear complex but my OpenTX mix school starts from a very simple place. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 thanks mate, thanks for keeping things simple. You explain things in a very simple and methodical way accounting for the fact that some of us aren't that advanced yet. Lots of videos I see from others forget the basics and assume know everything already. Cheers mick
Great video thank you for making this series. Just a note, the link you have for the SD card contents is no longer valid. Is there a new link?
Nice Video!
This is a great video tutorial. Thanks so much for sharing the info! Although I'm having an issue connecting my q7x to my Mac to run the RDLsimulator. Any tips, thoughts, or videos to share? That'd be so helpful. Thanks again!
+Mike Crain sorry, I don't have Macs here. I'd check the forums.. Best of luck
yeah..I've been doing that and have seen other say it's working but not here. ugh. Thanks for the info!
Painless360 no worries about a video; found plenty online and bought a new USB-C cable today. It works! Now to make those you'd showed here. Sweet! 😎 thanks for your help!!
Glad you got it sorted. Why not make a video and share the fix? Happy flying!
Nice! Mine is reaching me in a week or so!
Is there any chance in the future you making a tutorial on the navio2 board? thanks!
Possibly, I'll add it to the list. Thanks for the idea!
Make sure that the file called opentx.sdcard.version is in the root directory of the SD card.. ;)
Thank you sir I will giver her a go.
Thanks so much, I just got my radio, no battery included. But now I know where to start cause the manual certainly doesn't help much on that matter.
Stay tuned! ;)
Painless360 Awesome! Now I understand! 👍🏻 I'm new to Open Tx and FrSky so I was a bit confused. Thanks for clearing that up. :)
Hello, ive been looking all over for that rechargable battery, where can i purchase it?
It came with ours. A quick Google search came up with this - www.robotbirds.co.uk/default/fr-sky-ni-mh-aa800-7-2-v-battery-for-taranis-x7.html ;)
Sorin
+RCSTART I'd assume that it stores the value, I'll figure it out and do a video.. //video suggestion
thank you bro nice video
but how do you get 16 channel out of it , I do not see any extra slider ...hmm
If you want to be able to assign a switch to all of the 16 channels on 2 x X8R or an Sbus receiver then you can get a X9D/Horus ;)
Check out the OpenTX mix school videos like this one - ruclips.net/video/9Hs9OEnlt6A/видео.html
Painless360 wonderful! Thank you so much.
Is it compatible with Radiolink ?
hii, awesome Information as usual painless 360... i have it out the box and i could flash it but the taranis doesn't read the SD card... any help? anything to do it with the mass storage? any video with the proper steps? I'm new on this lol thanks guys
+vanister83 I'd try another sd card and format it in a PC to make sure it's clean. No need to use a huge card. 2 or 4 Gb is loads.. Best of luck
We will cover this in the series. This is one of the confusing parts of all the FrSky radios..
You can flash the version you want using these files - dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/67301981/X7-firmware.zip
Size and type of sd card recommended?
+patrick kim 1.0gb Micro SD..
cool video mate, I just got my radio today. On the box i see the firmware LBT and FCC. Mine is FCC what does it mean?
This is something that I've already made a video or two about. Please see this video - ruclips.net/video/P4soR6QgOk0/видео.html - that should help you find those videos of mine and help you find the answers you need quickly
I'd be right with you setting mine up but it seems they only produced enough units for those to review:(
+HeLLaVision we had to wait a while for our order as they are trickling through. Happy flying!
great video I have a turnigy 9x and it's about time to upgrade this is what I was thinking about this one. will you be doing more videos? I will need it 😂
+Cole Landreneau :D
Does the upper left pot slider have a screw on the back that can be tightened that will create bump indication of 50%. I doubt it does, but since a similar adjustment is an "option" on the gimbals it made me curious.
Not that I've seen, those 'detents' in a rotary switch are normally internal..
How to bind L9R module?
What is the step by step?
Step by step in the manual - www.getfpv.com/media/wysiwyg/documentation/Frsky-L9R-Manual.pdf Best of luck.
Do any of your video's in this series cover the EU or Non-EU mode, and what this means ? Cheers :)
Not really, excellent idea for a quick tip though!
ruclips.net/video/C5xpq5ti5Gk/видео.html :D
Cheers Lee from Melbourne, Australia..... Love your work :)
How do you set the end points on the qx7?
Same as on the Taranis - see our Taranis and OpenTX Mix series on the channel. Best of luck!
Thanks.
Painless360 Throttle 988us - 1971us, aileron 988us - 1976us, elevator 988us - 1971us, rudder 988us - 1976us.
same dnwld files for qx7 accst and access?
I got the banggood version with the battery, but I would worry about having to disconnect and reconnect the battery for charging purposes in case this might eventually lead to damage! I noticed that you only tightened down one screw to set the throttle stick (the frSky video also adjusts the spring screw by turning clockwise); any reason you didn't do this, though I can see you didn't need to?
+Nagamooto you can do either method ;)
Thank you - I learnt everything I know about the original Taranis X9d+ from you, so I'm following your method! Am I justified in worrying about the disconnecting and reconnecting of the supplied battery, or should I not worry? Feel I might end up almost preferring the Q7 to the X9d+ for my quad flying as crazy as it sound!
+Nagamooto the connector is a normal Lopo 2s balance style so care will be needed. Happy flying!
Painless360 thanks. Will either make a short extender, or use rechargeable batts for the time being...
I am having trouble finding a LiPo battery for this radio. Any suggestions/links? Preferably someplace local in the US.
Not sure, I guess Google is your friend for this one.. Best of luck!
Getfpv.com has the battery for $12 usd.
This radio is better then x9d plus?
Hi Lee, Having switched the radio to a nicad, is there a charging port? or are you restricted to removing the battery and charging using a regular bench charger ? Thx
Sadly not, I've tried the USB cable too and nada. Not too much hassle to pop it out to charge it.. It would have been great to have that though..
Any advice on using the RotorX module with this radio? I can get the module to bind with my tiny whoop, but can't get the tiny whoop to move at all.
+bdg4512 sorry, we've not used any real tiny whoops here. I assume it was something to do with channel value, travel order. I'd have a look in the forums for more clues. Best of luck with it!
frsky doesn't really mention accst any longer.
They have created a 'new better' protocol called ACCESS. Lots of pilots have moved away from FrSky because of how they did it.
What size SD card would you recommend?
You only need a small one - a couple of Gb is loads..
@@Painless360 Thanks.
Plz suggest me a receiver for it which can be used for planes without fc also
X8R. See my fixed wing playlist..
Hi, do you think I should ditch my AT9 and get this?
Depends on what you want to use the radio for and if the one you have is working well for you. I don't tend to replace radios unless you have a problem or want to have some of the extra features of the new radio (programming flexibility, more memory, cheaper receivers etc.). Best of luck!
thanks for the advice. My AT9 works great, I just really love the look of the radio and the GUI. Ill get this hopefully when the price goes down a little
does this work with any FrSky receiver? Im seeing there are special 30$ receiver for the X series
Models are stored in the EEPROM not on the SD card. I'd look at EEPROM backup and restore or use Companion to copy them across.... Best of luck
hey i got my qx7 and x4r sb and i got binded and the rx has a solid green light and seems to be right but i cant get it to actully control the quad or it wont do anything in the betaflight reciever and modes tab. im using the betaflight f3 fc and im so frustrated i cant figure thi out
+logan bentley please see the SP3 or the 'Quadcopter building for beginners' series. I cover it all there..
Do you just leave the SD card in?
Once it's got the SD card contents on It.. Yes.
Rahmat Hidayat how did you burn it?
I tried to change the original antenna with a higher gain antenna. It turned out that my TX came with an antenna direct soldered into the board, unlike what I usually see on youtube that came with a UFL connector. So I un-solder the antenna, solder the new one, then voila, I lost my RF board. Tested it with multimeter (continuity mode) and the signal pad shorted with the ground, even when I remove the cable. It was all my fault.
Rahmat Hidayat oh man that sucks
I already have the QX7 and im building a drone but dont know what receiver to get can you help thanks.
+Francis Luther any x series receiver should work. Make sure it has the same firmware (EU LBT or 'normal') to match your radio though. You can flash receivers with the new FW if you need to though..
ok thanks do you know the best one for value
Could a X4R-SB work.
For a Quad I use XSR. You can also use a XM+ if you're park flying..
Ok thanks alot.
I don't understand why they didn't put the screen above the sticks, just over the antenna on this one, it's way more visible when looking down on it for telemetry data and such during flight (Some of us still actually do fly LOS from time to time ;) )
Thullen they dit it with the horus x12s transmitter instead instead
Myster Ikan yea so why not with this one as well since it's a winning concept. The display position on this and the original taranis is an old heritage from old transmitters where you didn't have telemetry
Hi what a transmitter is best Devon 6 or 7e
+Rene Larsen sorry, I've not tried either of these. We like the FS-i6s as a radio for first time Drone pilots and the Taranis QX7 for those who want to have more models and options. If you can afford it, the Taranis X9D is great..
Hello, I'm setting up a logical switch for arming. When going to the mixer tab, I set L4 to arm, but cannot set !L4 (not L4) to disarm. Any idea how to do this on the Q X7?
You don't need to set the other position. See the Taranis videos and our OpenTX mix school for more tips and tricks. Best of luck!
Will the Spektrum DM9 module work for the Taranis QX7? Where can I get the rechargeable battery?
+Ronn2664 should do. I'd check with the sellers of the radio. Best of luck!
Yes it does work. I just tried it anyway, was scared at first. Thanks.
Thanks.
I'm a flysky i6s user and I'm debating whether to get this tx or save a little and get the x9d +. What's your thoughts ?
Painless360 I found one. I had the same batteries that in this video (the green pack) I found the charger for it on amazon. Thanks for the reply .
Hi painless, just got my qx7 this week and couldn't believe my luck when I saw your new video series,
I set up my x9d+ using your videos back in the day and love your easy to follow videos👍
So I just downloaded the sd card data using your link, unzipped it, installed the data on a card no problem.
Now when I switch the transmitter on I get a sd card warning saying , "expected ver 2.2V0004"
I can't backup models to sd card and I have tried this with two different cards both formatted before I installed the frsky data on them
Also there is no bootloader mode when I pinch the trims together and switch on like the x9d does.
And my menus look different, I can't find a calibration option
Other than that I have bound it to a xr4sb in ppm mode no problem at all
Have I got a dud?
Purchased in the uk so returning it won't be a headache
Thanks
The files from the FrSky site are made for the radio, if you are 'adding' to them using files from a previous version then this is the error you get. Things like the Amber voice pack will cause this.. This is why we're waiting for the 'real' 2.2 to come out and we can show all the steps.. Best of luck!
Painless360 thanks for your reply but I don't understand,
I haven't added anything other than what is on that frsky download page for the qx7
does it make sense to you that I cant backup a model to the card ? And that I can't enable the bootloader screen ?
And I haven't got calibration in the menus?
I'm really lost with this at the moment
+SUBT0TAL sounds like your radio is different from ours here. What does the version of Opentx on yours show?
Painless360 it's showing opentx-x7 version 2.2.0 (1b43d899) date 2016-12-19 EEPR:218
Hope that makes sense
OK, may have figured this out as I can get the rado here to give the same error. Make sure you have the file 'open.sdcard.version' in the root of the SD card.. If it's not there then the error appears..
to really appreciate it. I just got mine today, I'm going to need all the help I can. I'm using this to fly my tiny whoops
Hello Pianlesa360! Does this Transmitter support L9R and S8R Receiver?
Thank you and waiting for your response.
And which receiver would you suggest for a fixed wing with this Transmitter
Yes. As for the receiver I usually use an X8R for larger models and a X4R or similar for wings..
I don't have a card reader, can I insert the SD card into transmitter, plug in a usb,
and drop the firmware onto it that way?
Yes you can..
i cant put enough tention on the throttle with screwing in the screw. I dont know what i should do :(
+Sourceflux I'd ask the vendor for help. The screw here did need tightening all the way. Best of luck!
hello...I have a GT2 200 and I have the qx7 Taranis with xsr...I've hooked it up.and I have the green solid light from xsr..but GT2 keeps beeping and on betaflight the aux not moving on receiver part
Have you added an extra channel for the Aux control on the radio?
Some specs for this say 7 channel, some say 'upto 16'... Is there some understanding of what is a channel that I am missing? Am I safe to assume I will get more than 7 channels using an XSR?
16 is you're using an s-bus connection from the receiver. It depends on the receiver type and connection. PWM is usually 4-8 channels, PPM is 8 and S-Bus is 16.. Happy flying!
Can it be configured for Glider setup???
+Luis Candelario yes!!!
how do i charge the battery that came with it? also, mine came with 2.2, does that mean when i add the 4in1 module i don't need to download anything for it to work internally? thanks
You remove it and charge it with a LIPO charger.. Best of luck!
+EC White not seen that here.. have you tried another larger card?
I’m having trouble setting this radio up with velocidrone
Maybe a recalibration of the radio would help. Best of luck
Which switch can I use for different flight mode on naza, GPS, Att mode etc
You can add a switch to any channel you want in OpenTX and EdgeTX. You just need to know what channel that flight controller uses for modes. It is usually CH5 or Ch6... Best of luck!
@@Painless360 I think it's channel 5, thanks
Then just add a switch to channel 5, whichever you want. See my OpenTX mixing school for how - i.e. ruclips.net/video/wzcilKe_1NE/видео.html
Anyone else unable to access the FrSky web page today?
It's been up and down for the past week with some pages from google not working. What do you need?
instead of opening www.frsky-rc.com/ open www.frsky-rc.com/ and it will work (just remove the "S" letter in the httpS://...)
Thanks
+Roger Barnett you'll need an adapter to connect to the 2s nimh pack to the main leads of the charger if it needs those connected too..
Painless360 Any ideas where to buy? I've searched Ebay, AliExpress and can't find. I think I'm looking for banana plug or deans female to 2s female.
+Roger Barnett I normally end up buying the parts from eBay and make one.. Best of luck
I'd check the trims/subtrims on the radio then recalibrate if they are all in the centre. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 I tried several times to recalibrate my sticks, but it keeps registiring it as not centered.
+RikkTheGaijin if you Google for something like 'xt60 balance tap adaptor' you should find what you're looking for. Best of luck
hi, I just got the qx7 from banggood, i'm in the u.k,, where can I find what version it is, i.e eu or non eu?
If it's EU it'll have a sticker with UK or CE on it somewhere. Unless you asked for a UK version it'll probably be international. I'd ask Banggood..
thanx for your reply,,, I cant see any sticker on it so i'll assume its non eu,, I have a couple of xm+ recievers,, will I have to flash them with non eu firmware?
In Taranis X9D Plus using a multiprotocol TX module (as well as any other module) resulted in a noticeable latency (~40 ms or so). Did FrSky solve this issue in Q X7?
No idea, we're miles away from that in the testing here.. Sorry..
hi.. is the, turnigy 1800mAh 3s 40c lipo, a good battery for the tarantis x7??
+Biagio Meli it needs to be a 2 cell battery, and be small enough to fit in the compartment.
from Aloft: Features:
Operating Voltage Range: 6~15V (2S, 3S Lipos are acceptable)
hey bud I don't know if I'm using the right sd card or what but I'm getting a sd card warning on the qx7? using sdhc wondering if that's why the sound isn't working. updated firmware to 2.2 already.
+Blazin Fpv not sure, what's the error?
sd warning expected version 2.2 v0005
+Blazin Fpv I'd try a much smaller card. Let me know how you get on..
what should my firmware version be on the qx7. mine is, 2.2.0N362 (3e00d016)
Blazin Fpv I get the same thing on mine using a 32gb sdhc but it works. I've got sounds and it let's me update firmware. I can't get the thing to bind to a brand new x4rsb with correct firmware though :/
Question though, I ordered mine from banggood and it said it comes with a charger. Is it true?
Not sure as different people seem to have got different things (some have not received the extra battery for example). I'd check with BG.. Best of luck!
This hole menu is changed do you got maybe a newer vid? I yust bought one and i download that from the site(sd card content) and it give a warning sd card at the start (as wel as the failsavewarning)
That sd card warning i think i found it (i think its a bit strange that the taranis site doesnt got the right sdcard content)
+Bennie Leip not sure what you're referring to as everything in this video is still current. Please see the rest of the series for any other questions you may have. Best of luck
