This thing has been absolutely incredible for me. Been using it for electronics repair but has a wide variety of uses outside of that for me as a handy man. by far one of the best purchases i've ever made on a tool imo.
Thank you for taking the time to make this excellent video. One question: Does the imager spot pipes embedded in the wall? Thanks. Greetings from Malta - Europe.
@@TOTAL457 If it's a non-insulated wall and a hot water pipe then yes it will see through a wall. If your wall is insulated then it probably won't unless the pipe is against the wall.
I got my TOPDON Imager tc004 about 5 days ago and find it fasinating! I go around checking the temps on everything. The main reason I purchased it was because I raise honeybees and right now, with snow on the ground, I can go outside and check the temps on my hives, without opening up the hive, and see if they show heat inside, letting me know if they are still alive. Sadly, I have one hive which looks to be cool and those bees might have died. I will go in the hive once the temps rise a little and check them out. I love the TOPDON Imager but have one complaint. My imager won't connect to my computer. I find this is a common problem. I can take the smart card out and attach it to my computer to get my pictures though.
I can't get my computer video to come on when I plug in the USB... did you hit something to make the video appear on your computer? Thank you... nice video...
My 6 year old was pretty fascinated by this one. Sometimes I agree to review these things just so he can learn something new. This had a clearer picture than both the Flir and another coworkers Snap On. Tough to beat for the price. Thanks for watching Jeff!
Good timing for me, because I've been looking at the Topdon lately. I need to track down a water leak above a basement door that's coming through the wall on the back deck somewhere. I'd like to localize it, so I don't have to tear off all the siding on the back wall to find it. I have a Topdon jump starter, and I like their quality.
Crazy good quality out of this one and for the sale price it's going to be tough to beat. Good luck with the leak, those are the worst. Thanks for watching!
Curious what made you ask but no, never in the military. Shattered knee caps when I was 20 put an end to that idea. You did give me a good idea though. My Weber flat top that boasts super even cooking across the top has hot and cold spots all over it and would be nice to map it out in my head for better cooking. Used that thing for all 3 meals last Saturday, 🐷
@@themeat5053 Oh! Inherited from my Mom. Sadly haven’t been there in years. Cool house in the southern town of Calitri. Hoping to get back there maybe in 2026.
Max effective range is 16 feet 4.85 inches or 5 meters, which is what's in the instructions in fine print. I just got mine delivered today, and I'm having a blast with it. I'm learning a lot, too. Using the Iron pallette on a cold wall, I can see the wooden beams. On a warm wall, you can't see the beams. On a non reflective non stainless steel freezer, you can see the coils, but on a stainless steel fridge, you can only see the heat and not the coils. It won't look through glass but your own reflection. Some rooms in my house need insulation. My next project is to go walk in the woods and just see what I can pick up even though 5 meters isn't that far away in distance. It's a fun gadget. I hope this comment helps others.
@@jasoncollins9081 Yeah, I've taken it outside in open fields. I can see hot exhaust pipes about 200 ft away, probably further as well as make out clouds, but not many airplanes or birds unless they're fairly close. It won't always pick up the temp. The differences are certainly visible on the screen but the temp values aren't always working, let alone accurate. This is also a problem with any thing reflective, which can be deceptive..make you think it's fire hot but just cold and shiny in reality, or the opposite, there's no gradient of heat on anything shiny that's raging hot, it's just the glow around it that can be realized as hot. Also, there's just so much frame hitching with how it's constantly changing lenses or filters or whatever to re-range the overall picture, which is all very relative like a camera that adjusts it's shutter speeds depending on how much total saturation there is, it's just much slower. There's a lot of settings that mainly effect the accuracy of the temp readings which can be wildly different from what they really are. It is more useful than a temp gun in terms of seeing where all the temperature differences are in matte surfaces, but with all the reflective stuff I find it frustrating. Though I can see it being handy in the wild for anything living vs the rest of environment that may have it otherwise camouflaged, but it is also bulky for having in a pocket. I think I would rather have a flat one that has a bigger screen as well.
the topdom is just $285 right now, god i wished there was some way i could afford it because i desperately need a thermal camera but there's no way. i just lost 2 of the 8 rescues i care for because i ran out of money to pay to save them, i'm in the process of getting everything i own ready to sell so i don't have to let another animal die because i ran out of money, however if you run across a $50 thermal camera let me know.....lol
I heard that you have to give it your network login information. If that's true, then the idea that China is using it to steal your information could be true.
Are you aware that your cellphone is a 24x7 tracer, and how many sites and apps that you use have agree the terms of conditions even without reading nothing about it and you are concerned about a thermal camera? come on!
so someone FINALLY captured Predator and figured out their technology!

I got the tc004 mini and I have the same issue. I've gotten the pc to detect it in the Device manager but nothing with the TDView app.

This would actually be really handy around the house. I know my son would get a kick out of it.

Amazing 🤩 video
Handy to know it can stream to a laptop, thanks!
Always wanted one of those but could never afford one
Stationed in Vicenza, or were you an Air Force guy? Love those thermal cameras to let me know how hot the pizza oven is.

@@ProjectsForAllReviews You mentioned your house in Italy. That's all.

@@ProjectsForAllReviews Now, I knew there was a reason I like you. Sorry to hear about your Mom. Thanks for all your work.
In my case, I would use it, but I will wait for it to go under $200. If I wanted as a pro, definetly good price, but for occasional use like me?
Finally found a use for an "orange cat"!!!!
Yep, he's finally pulling his weight around here! Thanks for watching Greg!
wanted a range quality test for distance i offen wanna buy one of these for animal watching.
Not a bad idea at all. May do some additional thermal cameras early next year and that would be a good relevant test. Thanks for watching!
How close do you have to be to see hot spots, the max effective range?
