I'm 74" tall/230lbs and the Doublenest is so comfy I sleep in one at home on a Texsport steel tubing stand. I wish I'd learned about hammock camping earlier because I'd never have slept on a cot when deployed.
I agree. I'm 6'4" 215lbs, I use my Doublenest for hiking. Never did anything more than a 2 night hike. Compared to a tent, it's the no-brainer way to save space in a pack when you're trying to go light & compact. Every product has something better or worse but ENO is the Swiss Army knife hammock. I have it up in the back yard, too. BTW, making your hammock higher & hung wider will help that side sleeping get easier.
This is probably one of the better reviews on youtube, great job! Thanks for helping me decide, I'm a tenter but I want a hammock to chill out in at the site, Single Nest should be fine.
At the beginning of your video you mentioned that a commenter asked if sleeping diagonally is more comfortable so I thought I would mention what my experience has led me to conclude. I also sleep on my back or my side, but suspend my hammock much differently than you. I find two trees that are just a bit further apart than my carabiners then suspend the hammock as tightly between them as I can. I wedge my camping mat and sleeping bag inside and this allows me to sleep very flat even as a move around at night. I have only come across one or two others who do this, but they also mentioned that this solved all their problems. I am on my third ENO double nest and have well over 1500 nights in them (they don’t really wear out: one was stolen and the other suffered campfire damage).
Great video, I've found that the only way to side sleep takes roughly a 11 foot hammock. Which I ended up making myself using the same material as the the warbonnets
Hey thank for doing that comparison EMH as well as the shoutout! Looks like the double ENO would be the way to go for comfort and room. Laying at a 45 degree would at least be better than on my back all night. You did a great side by side comparison. I am under 6ft but I think I would still go with the double ENO for the extra room and maybe a little more comfort. I was checking out the War Bonette also. If I went that route I would probably get their equivalent double size.
I have a double from a different manufacturer and just bought the ENO Single. I use my hammock predominantly for reading near the beach here in San Diego. The double is great for sitting perpendicular but I can't see my surroundings at all when I'm sitting longways if that makes sense.
I might be a strange guy or simply wrong. I started with double nest for a year and liked it but it wrap me completely where I felt my shoulder is being squeezed toward center. I switched to single nest, and less width of fabric reduced the wrapping pressure, so I felt more flat and comfortable. I don't have shoulder pain like I did with double nest next morning. I know 45 degree thing and even tried using pole across where my upper body is. I'm. 5'9 guy, so it makes a difference? Not sure, but it is my sincere opinion after using both for more than 6months each. I definitely recommend taking double for family trip or just lounging though.. Thank you for your video!!
Thanks for the informative and comprehensive overview of these two hammocks. I've sat in both, and being a big guy like you I would go for the double, and suggest it to anyone who isn't trying to shed ounces from their pack. I'm considering purchasing a double deluxe with a bug net for this season, Also, don't let "double" let you think that you can sleep with your significant other in this overnight! It's fine for relaxing together but it would not make a comfortable night's sleep.
I love eon's so much! I have a double nester and i can fit 3 teenagers in it while not exceeding the weight limit. It's so great for summer camps and just a place to sit and talk! I recommend eon's to everyone!
If you tighten the straps and make the head and feet lower you can sleep in it so comfortably sideways. I personally don't even sleep in a bed I have a double nest and an indoor hanging kit so I have tried almost everything.
This video was super helpful! i am pretty new to hammocking and am looking for an entry level hammock. have you done a video on how you did the ridgeline? That is what i am still struggling to learn. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am wanting to do a structural ridgeline on an enos double nest.
I have a hammock suspension video I'm working on that has a few deferent ways to hang the hammock. I'll be showing the descending rings in that video. I should be done editing it soon. Thanks for watching.
When first I tried the hammock I would tighten it up but I found that if you let the hammock sag I can get more of a diagonal lay. That way I can lay flatter with more room on the sides of the hammock. If it's to tight then the sides tend to be less comfortable on my back.
Hey no problem. I wish I saw a video comparison before I bought my single nest. It's not a bad hammock but I realize now after see other peoples set ups, that there are better options. Warbonnet makes a XLC Blackbird double 1.1 which is 11ft. long. It's one foot longer then the standard blackbird. That's the model I'm currently looking at.
Nice. In my opinion there are better less expensive options for hanging the hammock. Take a look whoopie slings or making your own webbing. You will save money and weight. Thanks for watching.
So cool to see a comparison. I just bought my first hammock and the guy at the outdoor store suggested a double over a single, so that's what I went with. That being said, I'm going on my first backpack/hammock camping trip. I was wondering about the ridgeline. No one mentioned that in the store. I'm guessing it helps with the width while in the the hammock? I also bought the bug net and rain tarp to go with. Any feedback will be helpful! TIA!
I got an Eno doublenest hammock more to lounge around my college in than to sleep in, but it curls in like a cocoon when I lay in it, and makes it where I can't really see people. Am i doing something wrong, or should I look for a different hammock?
I am only 63 inches and am going for the double nest, I am sleeping in a hammock full time. The single does ok, but the double is way better for long term use. I sleep on my side and I believe more comfortably, but being a foot in size difference may be the difference. Thanks for the advice on the sleeping bad, I do not have another $250 for the fancy one under hammock bags.
I just found the Double Nest on sale for $58. The bug net was more expensive than the hammock. Free shipping too. Whole setup was around $100. Being 6' 1" myself, I just needed something a little bigger. I like to stretch out. :P
Just wondering why you use a ridgeline on the ENOs? I have a Doublenest and Junglenest and have found that both of these Channel ended hammocks will truly lay flat unlike a traditional gathered end hammock that requires a Brazilian style (diagonal) lay. Just wondering if I am missing out on something. Thanks!
+Ryan Conlon I have a ridge line video that better explains all the uses of ridge lines but the simple answer in this situation is it makes a set up quicker by keeping the correct sag in the hammock.
Does the SingleNest sag less when lying midline? Tried the PeaPod system with my DoubleNest, but my lower back and bum compressed too much of my down bag to keep in warmth. Wondering if the overall circumference would be less with a SingleNest and help make less contact with the sleeping bag.
You can just the amount of sag in any hammock by adjusting the ridge line and how much of an angle you lay at from the center. The peeped system at least for me doesn't have enough room for me to lay at a diagonal and I end up laying like a banana.
Thank you so much for this comparison! looking to purchase one for my hubby for Father's day. You said that both set ups had ridge lines.. Can you explain what that's used for? Thanks again!
Very good I order the double ENO today, I sleep like you sides to sides, was wondering would a sleeping pad inflatable ""WALMARTS"" work to help ??Did you try one? .maybe wouldn't need one to carry. lighter Pack.
Is there a reason your hammock angle is so acute? It seems like your sagging a lot, I found it a lot more comfortable laying on my side and even stomach being more taught with a longer ridge line. I use a Alton goods ultra light hammock which looks to be around the middle of both the Enos width wise. I'm new to hammock camping, thanks for any info, genuinely curious. I sleep in mine one to two nights a fortnight at this rate sometimes weekly.
great info and vid!! My question is what is the rope above your hammock for? I'm researching to buy my first hammock. Thanks for the warbonnet mention as well!!
It's called a ridge line and it helps keep the ends of the hammock closer so there is less tension on the sides. (More room with wise.) Thus allowing you to lay more diagonal. That way you can lay flatter and not like a banana.
I've switched to a larger camping style hammock ( Warbonnet Blackbird xlc ) and also have a more around the house style Byer of Maine Traveller Double XXL.
Your back doesn't arch backwards with the hammock taught? I don't know anyone with a DD hammock or I'd give it a try. Even with the extra room in the double nest it's still uncomfortable but I'm also 6' 3" tall. I would think a bridge hammock would be best for sleeping on your stomach.
I bought the double nest eno hammock and in my opinion it is a lot better than single nest. The 10 extra dollars isn't all that bad. My church youth group all of us have Eno hammocks and everyone's is double nest I would highly recommend it.
Im a big guy, 300lbs, I've never been out hiking or "hammocking" before.. But I have always found it interesting and have always wanted to do it. DO you have a video that recommends what you take in the backpack with you? Or a list?
I don't currently have any video's out on what I take with me. I've been working on an ultralight three day setup and a more traditional three day setup. Unfortunately my old computer died and I haven't had any luck getting the videos off the hard drive. I have a couple of weight list in an excel format but I'm not sure how they would come out on a video. A what's in my pack video is in the works even if I have to make a new one.
Great Video! I totally agree that the double is better. I also sleep on my side without a problem, but I hang mine a bit different. I always pull it as tight as possible instead of letting it sag. The tighter the better for me. I actually tighten it again after my para cord stretches out a bit. You might want to give it a try if you haven't already.
EasternMountainHiker True! I don't mind the crinkle... I'll brainstorm at the store next time I go for something less crinklier.. Thanks for the inspiration!
Tim Lee. I'm the same way. I'm 5'6" and the first hammock I got was the eno double nest. I find the cheap Equip hammock very comfy for me and sleep in it 3 nights a week every week. I haven't figured out why there is a need for the extra material past the triple stitching seam of hammocks. It seems to be a waist of material to me. I never lay outside that seam and would find it uncomfortable to do so. Maybe someone can enlighten me on it. I'm considering making my a hammock without the extra material.
+Johnny Striple Most likely the "extra material" is more for show, you know for a more cosmetic appeal. It's seem that way to me anyway. I have two other hammocks from different companies that are the same way.
I tried my Double nest yesterday on my in side hammock stand. I've been sleeping in my Walmart Equip hammock for several months now. The double nest is a lot wider but when I went to get out, it was so difficult. The Equip hammock is so easy to exit so I put it back on my stand. So much better.
Yes the larger wider hammocks can be harder to get out of. My Traveler XXL is like that. It's ever wider then the double nest. But once you in I don't want to get out anyway!
I've done that before while camping. It's not that easy to do in a hammock. Defiantly easier while ground camping so in the hammock I just get up and to go. If anyone want to do this though my recommendation is to use a old nalgene bottle with a different color. Don't want to mix them up!
Sleeping pads in the hammock is a personal preference. I've tried a couple of different pads and prefer just not to use one. Without attaching the pad to the hammock it tends to slide around and can be annoying. Other people use then all the time, just not for me.
how long do you think the structural ridgeline should be? I have a tight spot in my hammock by my legs and I read its because my hammock could be at the wrong degree.
+Austin Gilliam The ridge line should roughly be 84% of the length of the hammock. This is a good start point but I like to have my ridge lines adjustable to taylor fit. Check my ridge line video for reference. ruclips.net/video/pCeaIVDvxn0/видео.html
Thanks for the video, well done.. You made a comment about liking your friends hammock better than yours, comfort wise, and was wondering what the differences were. Have you tried out the Warbonnet Blackbird yet? I want to know if it's really worth the $$$ before I make that leap. First time hammock user, here....die hard tenter! :)
I would recommend the double nest and the atlas straps for 100 dollars you get both the at last straps give you about 30 different attachment points in total. The double nest is so large and you really can't grasp just how much room there is until you are in it.
For the most part I use the hammocks for backpacking. The blackbird has a few features like a foot box that make it more comfortable. It's also available with double layer bottom so you can put a sleeping pad underneath you. I've try using a sleeping pad in the ENO and it moves around on me. And the built in bug net is a nice feature as well.
You make a great informational video. I hope that you are able to get your hands on other hammocks to complete more comparisons and explain design features of backpacking gear. There are more complex systems to refine strapping a hammock to trees with greater ability to make adjustments. While I prefer using an ultralight tent, you help entice me to consider a hammock system someday. Not so easy to deploy in the tundra above tree-line at 12,000 feet elevation on a mountainside.
what type/brand of suspension do you recommend? I know a lot of people just use cord, rope, or the eno atlas setup....but, I am wary of using rope because I want to utilize the 400lbs limit (both my boyfriend & I will be in it) but don't want to break the bank with the eno atlas...or is it worth it to just spend the money? thanks :)
I like to use whoopie slings. Very strong, light and they are only like $18. I got them at. shop.whoopieslings.com Here is the video of my setup. ruclips.net/video/pYPAQkwjFHs/видео.html Or you can use nylon webbing for a stronger setup. Video ruclips.net/video/yZk0I5FRcno/видео.html
I have a few questions Do you sleep with a pad? Do you sleep with a sleeping pad? Have you tried other hammocks and do you prefer this over a tent? Thanks in advance
I sometimes use a very thin pad in the summer. I will use a thicker pad in conjunction with an under quilt in winter when temps drop below the rating of the under quilt. But normally just use an under quilt. I currently have five hammocks. I will always use a hammock in place of a tent when I can.
They have a new one called the Jungle Nest! It has build-on bug netting, SWEAT! I want one for Christmas, lol... i have an older dbl nest that works great and I'm 511/ 290!
hoobilly 65 I saw that they have a new hammock out. I did just pick up a Warbonnet Blackbird though and I think that the WBBB is a better camping style hammock.
Nicholas Amick I would go with a double for yourself and a single for the lady. Or she may like the extra room of the double. It's not that much heavier and for the price not a bad deal.
Thanks for an informative video! I've been doing my research. I'm 5"1" and 113 pounds, so if you can fit in a singlenest, then surely I can LOL. I think it's a great investment. Is it air travel friendly with a carry on? I'd like to take one with me to Puerto Rico this Thursday and sleep/hammock by a palm tree! Best wishes, Aysar
+Qban Bandit Yeah that's a weird hammock. It' doesn't really compare well because there're two totally different styles. But I will have a new comparison video soon with a hammock I just got. Stay tuned.
I never understood the whole sleeping on your side in a hammock thing. Its a hammock not a mattress. You don't say on your side on a pool float because it is not designed like that.
Your correct it not really intended to lay on your side but some people have trouble sleeping on there back. I move around in my sleep and tend to sleep half on my side half on my back.
Sleeping on your stomach would be uncomfortable because you would be arched backwards. When laying in this style hammock you don't get completely flat. Two smaller people could fit in a single nest but a double would be more accommodating. I wouldn't recommend that two people sleep in a hammock. After about 20 minutes with my wife in the hammock it becomes annoying. You are constantly squished together and it's hard to get comfortable.
Still relevant after 10yrs. Thank You, I enjoyed your video.
I'm 74" tall/230lbs and the Doublenest is so comfy I sleep in one at home on a Texsport steel tubing stand. I wish I'd learned about hammock camping earlier because I'd never have slept on a cot when deployed.
You've convinced me, double is the way to go. Thanks for the video!
I think I’m going to go with the Singlenest! I’m a small guy, and I think it’s perfect for me! You really helped out with me choosing!Thnx
Thank you so much for doing this! The fact that you’re 6’3" really helps. I’m 6’2".
Thank you for the comparison. Was easy to follow. Definitely getting double nest at 3oz & $10 more lol - what a win.
At the beginning of your video you mentioned that a commenter asked if sleeping diagonally is more comfortable so I thought I would mention what my experience has led me to conclude. I also sleep on my back or my side, but suspend my hammock much differently than you. Great video, I've found that the only way to side sleep takes roughly a 11 foot hammock. Which I ended up making myself using the same material as the the warbonnets
Thanks for the comparison.... I bought a double nest by Venture Outdoor Gear (Vancouver Canada). I'm over 200lbs and definitely the double nest.
Excellent review. Thank you very much. Double is definitely the way to go plus I like the olive color in the wild

the funny thing ab this is that I'm layin completely sideways in my double while watching this

I tend to agree with you. nothing beats a double nest for chair sitting. but I sleep a little better in my single nest.
Thanks for the video! Crazy useful. I was looking for a side by side comparison and couldn't find one.

I don't have a video on ridge lines but I might do one in the future. A good starting point is a ridge line of 100 inches.
Nice. Thanks for taking the time to do this, very useful my friend! :)
shawn crawford Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching. It's a Sony Handycam HDR-CX190. Picked it up on Amazon for $189.

+azultoyou This is one of my favorites. ruclips.net/video/Mj1MCAAb06E/видео.html

Nice. In my opinion there are better less expensive options for hanging the hammock. Take a look whoopie slings or making your own webbing. You will save money and weight. Thanks for watching.
Hey I saw in your video you are thinking about the blackbird. Check out the xlc being a tall guy. Im 6'5" and the 12 foot long xlc is fantastic.
Thanks, I've been looking at that one. Just need to save up the $.
So cool to see a comparison. I just bought my first hammock and the guy at the outdoor store suggested a double over a single, so that's what I went with. Have you run into bug problems at all? I hike in the swamp, do they make a mosquito net small enough for no see-ems?
can you make a video on how to mod the descending rings to the hammock?,great vid though
You can get more on your side with the eno set up tighter
That works for me in my single
touchiestworm44 Any tighter and the hammock gets uncomfortable. I'm to tall for the single nest.
Good review. Thanks for taking the time.

HaHa.
I no what you mean. I've heard of people bringing a bottle to sleep with so they have something to pee in, in the middle of the night.
Man love your voice you sound like yogi bear great vid
Hey Boo Boo!
I would recommend the double nest and the atlas straps for 100 dollars you get both the at last straps give you about 30 different attachment points in total. The double nest is so large and you really can't grasp just how much room there is until you are in it.
The double is the way to go.
Double is comfortable?
for comfort and nice sleeping....go for the double....proven and tested.and add ridgeline which is very important to avoid pressures
Just curious why you prefer the Blackbird over a Nest?
More comfort? Better durability?
For the most part I use the hammocks for backpacking. The blackbird has a few features like a foot box that make it more comfortable. It's also available with double layer bottom so you can put a sleeping pad underneath you. I've try using a sleeping pad in the ENO and it moves around on me. And the built in bug net is a nice feature as well.
Good vid Bro. Nice comparison.
I should be picking up a new one soon. And once I get it out in the field I will make a video. Above the tree line I use a bivy bag.
what type/brand of suspension do you recommend? I know a lot of people just use cord, rope, or the eno atlas setup....but, I am wary of using rope because I want to utilize the 400lbs limit (both my boyfriend & I will be in it) but don't want to break the bank with the eno atlas...or is it worth it to just spend the money? thanks :)
I like to use whoopie slings. Very strong, light and they are only like $18.
I got them at. shop.whoopieslings.com
Here is the video of my setup. ruclips.net/video/pYPAQkwjFHs/видео.html
Or you can use nylon webbing for a stronger setup.

I will put this video to my hammock information collection. It´s good.
+Christian Maczik cimachh Nice.
I have a few questions
Do you sleep with a pad?
Do you sleep with a sleeping pad?
Have you tried other hammocks and do you prefer this over a tent?
Thanks in advance
I sometimes use a very thin pad in the summer. I will use a thicker pad in conjunction with an under quilt in winter when temps drop below the rating of the under quilt. But normally just use an under quilt. I currently have five hammocks. I will always use a hammock in place of a tent when I can.
EasternMountainHiker thanks
Very informative video, sure appreciate you doing it and notifying me! I'll look forward to your War Bonette video when you get one.
Would you be able to fit a second person in the double nest?
I'm 5 ft 6" and weigh 110 and I've slept with someone else in a single eno hammock with no problem
Thanks for the video! Very helpful!
What is the rope running along the top of the hammocks
That is called a structural ridgeline. It makes it so every time you set it up, the hang is the same. You can read all about it at hammock forums.
Thanks I'll look it up.
Agreed, the double is better for sleeping.
I'm on the fence, do I get the double or two singles for the woman and myself. I'm 6'2 245lbs...she's 5'5 140
Nicholas Amick I would go with a double for yourself and a single for the lady. Or she may like the extra room of the double. It's not that much heavier and for the price not a bad deal.
Can 2 people be in the double one we are both under 6ft can we lay down n sleep in it ?
I would say that sleep two in a hammock like this would be uncomfortable. Sort term it's fine but I wouldn't recommend spending the night like that.
Why is there rum in your hammock?
How is it not designed for camping?
Thanks for watching.
Do the straps come with the hammock?
No they are purchased separately.
hey i you are looking to be more comfortable to make it not as baggy and make it more stiff. i also found it easer to sleep in
Tucker Pratt which one
so a double nest is just how wide it is
Thanks for an informative video!
The single nest should be fine for you. As for the airline I'm not sure. Best to check with them although I don't think it would be a problem.
Thanks for the great video! :)
I sleep on my stomach in my DD Hammock.. if your going to sleep face down you want your hammock as taught as possible for maximum comfort.
Thanks. Glad I could help.
Well???? What is you choice now for a back packing hammock?
What hammocks do your friends use that you like?
What about the amok draumr 3.0 vs the eno nest great video!!!
+Qban Bandit Yeah that's a weird hammock. It' doesn't really compare well because there're two totally different styles. But I will have a new comparison video soon with a hammock I just got. Stay tuned.
great review. thanks man
+mattcav001 Thanks for watching.
It's a good deal and more comfortable for taller people.
i'm 6"2' 160 pounds what one should i use
Over six foot I would recommend the double nest.
I'm your 2000th sub
I never understood the whole sleeping on your side in a hammock thing. Its a hammock not a mattress. You don't say on your side on a pool float because it is not designed like that.
Your correct it not really intended to lay on your side but some people have trouble sleeping on there back. I move around in my sleep and tend to sleep half on my side half on my back.
thank you for the video. now i can decide what i want!
I'm sorry you didn't follow through with the downside, and backpacking hammocks in general.
Not sure what you mean. Please explain.
