Pink Floyd began as a blues band. When Syd started tripping he took the band into fantasy land. But Pink Floyd played blues instrumentals in concert in 1970 and 1971, and just once in 1977 at the end of the Montreal concert. But you can hear the blues influence in many of their 1970s songs, like Embryo. Even Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a type of blues.
The blues jam in Montreal featured Snowy White on lead guitar. If I remember correctly, David had stormed off of the stage early, due to Roger's antics and the out of control audience.
Gilmour sounds great while playing the simplest licks.. His tone is what is magical. To sound like Gilmour, use a Delay with Reverb to fatten your tone (Delay settings are a quick 'slap-back' or a longer "Tape Delay" depending on the song , use a Univibe at times (speed on "fast"), kick on your Phaser at times, and always use Reverb. Throw in some pinch harmonics for the 'squeal'. Another key to his sound are reverse bends (bending the string before hitting the note). Then, bend those strings big while adding tremelo. The way I detailed his tone sounds much more difficult than it is.
Like you could do better. Even if you had invented the sound that you're describing after the whole world has heard it. You're gonna die nameless. At least be the cool guy who likes cool music
David Gilmour is an incredible guitarist. IMO he is way better than Jimi Hendrix... EDIT: my opinion has changed. After listening to more Hendrix, Now I like them both the same.
i agree with you, but it's sad to know that "guy" is Jan Hammer, the genious who used to play in the Mahavishnu Orchestra. look at what the 80's did to him.. sad
It is not a song per se. They are just playing a standard blues riff while gilmour does his thing. They prob prepped for two minutes for this. Gilmour not at all.
James Moran It's not that I didn't like it, it's just that his improvising imo is way behind in terms of complexity (well in this solo at least). Don't get me wrong Gilmour is ''the'' guitarist that made me pick up the guitar. He's written some of the best and emotive solo's and has one of the best guitar tones in rock guitar history; the magic just isn't there in this clip imo.
Crotchet I wouldn't agree to that. Surely, this wasn't his greatest solo, but that is probably because Blues is not really his thing. If you listen to his live performances especially in live in Pompeii or live in Gdansk or live in the Albert Hall, you will find some great improvisations.
John Blond I have to agree with you, most people would call him a blues player but his live improvisations in particular Pompeii is very much prog. It's blues based but it's different.
David Gilmour plays the guitar with class, very elegant!
David Gilmour playing blues is as rare as diamond!!!
He chiefly a blues player!
actually nope, if you break down what he normally plays you’ll notice how much blues has influenced him
I'd I LOVE IT
The blues es the way and he nows
@@metyous3976 I think he meant a standard blues 1 4 5 groove
mr Gilmour is from another dmension! Amazing guitar player!

I would love to have an entire album of this music. Incredible!!!!!!!!!
Listen to his self-titled album
Andrew Knez what is the name of it?
Théo Gonçalves self-titled = David Gilmour
Even the spotlight knows it belongs with David.
How I haven't come across this yet is a mystery to me
You found it before me 😅
Back to the roots, love it.
It doesn't get much better than this folks!
+Artie RT that's a bad ass linuep! Jan Hammer and Gilmour awesome.

got to just love dave :)
I only wish Gilmore made a blues album. And by that I mean straight-up blues jams. Like this, I put a spell on you. ect
@Neil Gilmour.
Check out the Mica Paris and Jools Holland version with David on exactly that song
The whole keytar player really robs the whole "david Gilmour blues" vibe from me, it just doesn't combine well...
Same here… it’s like me and Tiger Woods in a golf scramble.. I’d be the worst partner for golf.. (best for drinking and golfing though 🤣🍻!)
80s... "you wouldn't get it"
Gilmour is great! Its soils have much feeling.
Nice and slow and very good, you have to be good to steer clear of meaningless shredding and keep it real blues, too.
Omg, totally great to see Jan with Gilmour
Went from a monster to a simple, but perfect bass playing, gotta love mr Tony Levin(at least it looked like him in a little part of the video)
It sure looks like Tony Levin, who played bass on the Momentary Lapse of Reason album. (Guy Pratt played on the tour)😊
Tony Levin for sure!
i love you sir Gilmour
Dam what a treat to get to listen tooooo!
The beginning is the same as his solo on : This heaven from live in Gdansk
wooh man ,killer guitar style
3:02 you can tell hes into it by the expression on his face
The best riff here
and at 3:15!....
Gilmour never wasted any notes. Always chose the right notes with a natural integrity. That’s why he is one of the absolute bests.
David Gilmour Blues Rock Jam!!!!!
His Beginnigs whit pink Floyd 60s were with Blues ,he plays blues well today 🎸🎸🎹🥁
David = Diamond
Gilmour c'est une source d'inspiration
Big Guitariste David Gilmour Guitare Legende nice solo Blues

Rocky Middletton You were drunk when you made this comment weren't you?
David Gilmour doesn’t use reverb.
Mate, shut up
They should have panned to Les Paul a lot, its a shame that they only showed him for a few seconds at the start.
Thanks a ton for the upload.

Супер!!! Очень люблю блюзы! А в исполнении Дэвида Гилмора ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I can see why old people complain about new music
Almost showing Eric how its done
Some plz recreate this backing track exactly the way it is omg
David Gilmour and Eric Clapton both are Guitar God.
David Gilmour is missing link between Eric Clapton and Eddie Van Halen.
The only one link he misses is the one to the new Strat as he does not have any instrument to play now lol
Miticooooo!!! ❤️
David Gilmour is an incredible guitarist. IMO he is way better than Jimi Hendrix... EDIT: my opinion has changed. After listening to more Hendrix, Now I like them both the same.
Are you stupid?
+Thelonesniper101 no he's not
+justin swaggod i love all of them but Gilmour has the feels man he has something different in his playing that separates him from the others
you love dj dash? that kid goes to my school idiot. enough reason proving youre a 14 year old hipster pink Floyd fan
+justin Harigyna who is dj dash?
thats gold...
Master!
Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. David Gilmore
sweet tone!
Apart from gilmour nobody seems to notice that is jan hammer from miami vice on keys.
Thanks, l knew l knew the face!😊
Gilmour rules!
How I would like to listen David playing Comfortably Numb live with Devin Townsend! But...
Slightly more clean sound from David would have been paradise ❤️
Awesome ❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻
GIVE MORE POWER TO THE PEORLE..........................Great guitarist
Woooooooooww MERAVIGLIA GILMOUR ♡
Its simple..David Gilmour
Can't tell where the guitar ends and David begins.
TOP!!!!
haha....it is a bit like that..,.but boy I would play the triangle just to share the stage with David Gilmour, even just for 30 seconds...
La guitare basse et extraordinaire
wow
Gilmour siempre, Dios entre los Dioses
Gilmour always Gilmour.....
Fuckin' awesome!
Love and cant agree more!!!!! :D
Дейвид Гилмор и Ян Хамър - действително добра комбинация! :)
The keytar lmao one of those things im glad doesn't exist as prominently today.
Pink Floyd is named after bluesmen Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.
Trust David to bring a Strat to Les Paul's tribute night.
Skills.
The naughty Gilmour
WOW
i think fender strat is into gilmour not les paul what d hell r u saying he made hes whole life a strat in hes hand
Food for thought: What if David decided to play for a blues rock band instead of the Floyd?
floyd is blues

Try Jan Hammers " Beyond the Minds Eye " Soundtrack. Great Mood Music
THE GOD DAMN RIFF AT 3:00
Feeling :3
Les Paul said it...."Boy you play your butt off"....
When i die, and go to wherever tf im going to, there better be Floyd music.
Clapton si sta ancora chiedendo dove siano le corde della sua strato😂😂😂
If anyone could tell me this chord progression I would be very thankful 🙏
hey George from Seinfield at the 1:49 mark playing some tosspot keyboard guitar thing,,,interrupted poor Gilmour too....
Looks like 1988. Is that correct?
Do you know where i can get backingtrack some like this ?
So this is what luke skywalker was doing all this time?
Freaking awesome until the keyboard guy showed up...
00xanawolf00 Gilmour doesn't need to make the silly faces required to operate the silly keyboard. :~)

+LeonardMcrendall Didn't he also write the score for Miami Vice?
Have you listened to Jeff Beck's Wired album? Jan Hammer's keyboard work on that is awesome.
Rodzilla right?
Oops..was that a wrong note at 3,01...,? even the great Dave can hit a wrong one,,i do it all the time no one notices ,,
The guy on keyboard is the representation of every other guitarist in comparison to Gilmour :D
BB King is the best for the blues.
Gilmore is fantastic. I've not heard him play the blues before. Jan Hammer..... not so much.
Gilmour always plays the blues
MAGNIFICOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Clapton stands in front of the mirror and pretend to be Gilmour ...
+Giuseppe Piccirillo This is more of a valid statement than anything I've seen in my life.
Case in point:
/watch?v=hFPJ9SkCprM
I think not
Not really when we re talking about blues
Boom!!!!!!
what year is this?
dipro001 August 1988
Lennart Guitar Thanks man! thats why gilmour looks so young.
You're welcome!
haha...well, there is hope for me then!!!
he goes from living with his parents at 30 to a big time Yankee hot shot to playing keytar, how does he do it?
Who? David? You need to learn about him. You are WAY off base if you think that.
Does anyone know what song this is? Specifically what Gilmour is playing
It is not a song per se. They are just playing a standard blues riff while gilmour does his thing. They prob prepped for two minutes for this. Gilmour not at all.
Девид как всегда не подрожаем
Not the greatest improviser but a brilliant guitarist all the same.
Why don't you think that. What didn't you like about it?. just wondering.
James Moran It's not that I didn't like it, it's just that his improvising imo is way behind in terms of complexity (well in this solo at least).
