Is The Ho-Ri Fictional?

  • Japan's Ho-Ri tank destroyer is one of the more controversial vehicles in War Thunder. Many players are confused about just how real either of the two tank destroyer variants are, or if Gaijin is responsible for their implementation. Much like I did with the M6A2E1 and Panther II / Maus, I'll do my best to explain how far these vehicles got in real life, as well as how War Thunder portrays them.

      Japan has one vehicle at most for ever BR. But thats it. The best lineup you can get ever is at 6.7, where their tanks actually pack a heavy punch. 7.0 gives you the Ho-ri with a High pay and repair cost, and the weird ATGM tank.

    Japan's tank community is by far the least spoiled due to the fact that they have to work out with minor equipment. America, Germany, and Russia have the same vehicle situations despite being x10 larger. Yet people still wanna shift and dog on a minor tech tree, it's actually sad. I hope y'all know that we also have to fight cold war MBT's despite being WW2 tech.

      Yea, I really enjoy playing Ho-Ri along with Type 75 a.k.a Derpy anime tank and ST-A3. But there are not many options other than 3.3. We only have E8 Sherman for 5.7 BR, but I dunno why since 5.3 Panther D easily outperforms and does everything thing better than Sherman (only slow turret rotation speed for Panther, I dont think it is a disadvantage since you wont need to push forward a lot and fight at 100~300 meters range). I would like to see Chi-Ri 1 and Ka-To (Na-To but uses 105mm gun) even if Chi-Ri 1 is a fictional tank. Japanese tech-tree needs some of them

    • @thehumanoddity
      @thehumanoddity 3 года назад +1

      @@samsmotzzz2171 To add to this, the "Ho-Ri III" is a fictional name in itself. There were only three proposed being the initial small-scale mockup with the sloped front and after that the Ho-Ri I and Ho-Ri II were proposed with the latter ultimately being the only one to actually get a detailed blueprint completed. The two numbers refer to the engine placement: in the I, the engine is placed in the center and the fighting compartment in the rear while the II is a more conventional concept. In this way, the mockup if you would prefer to not call it the mockup, is just a early iteration of the plan I rather than being a mystical plan III.

    The Ho-Ri I was a tank destroyer version using a 105 mm cannon in place of the 75 mm gun design and an additional 37 mm gun in the front armored plate. The armor was to be 30 mm thick and it was to have a crew of six. It used the Type 5 Chi-Ri tank chassis. The superstructure for the main gun was placed at the rear, the engine was positioned in the center area of the chassis and the driver's station was in the front hull section; all similar in design to the German Ferdinand/Elefant heavy tank destroyer. According to "The National Institute for Defense Studies, Ministry of Defense, Military Administration of Munitions Mobilization, Production Chart of January to April of 1945", the plan was to produce a total of 5 Ho-Ri gun tanks by March 1945. However, no prototypes are known to have been completed. Another variant of the Ho-Ri was to have a twin 25 mm anti-aircraft gun on top of the rear casemate superstructure in a "swivel mount".
    A second version planned was the Ho-Ri II heavy tank destroyer. It was to use the Type 5 Chi-Ri tank chassis. The boxy superstructure for the main gun was completely integral with the hull's sides and placed at the center of the chassis (similar in design to the German Jagdtiger). The engine compartment was moved in the rear area of the chassis. It also was to use a 105 mm cannon as its main armament.
    The Ho-Ri was a more powerful tank destroyer (gun tank) using a 105 mm cannon in place of the 75 mm design and an additional 37 mm gun. It was to use the Type 5 Chi-Ri tank chassis. The superstructure for the main gun was placed at the rear, the engine was positioned in the center area of the chassis and the driver's station was in the front hull section; all similar in design to the German Ferdinand/Elefant heavy tank destroyer. Another planned version was to have a twin 25 mm anti-aircraft gun on top of the rear superstructure.
    There was also a planned variant known as the Ho-Ri II, with the boxy superstructure for the main 105 mm cannon designed to be integral with the hull's sides and placed at the center of the chassis (similar to the German Jagdtiger). But, According to several sources, no prototypes of the Ho-Ri were known to have been completed. Also, the only evidence that it was supposed to have been built was a Type 5 gun tank Ho-Ri I mock-up scale model. The tank most likely would’ve been built if the war had progressed further than 1945.

    Well concerning the removed German tanks...the panther 2's hull was actually built and still exists to this day with a regular panther turret on it.. The rest is kinda made up. It was never planned to get a panther F turret or an 88mm. Tiger 2 105 was a design preposal to put the new 105mm gun into a tiger 2 that was instantly rejected due to it being pretty much impossible to actually fit in the tiger 2 turret, being cramped even with the 88mm.
    Flakpanzer 341 was made as a wooden mockup but none was actually made due to the difficulty with getting panther hulls as those where all needed to make tanks.
    And of course we all know the maus existed and was supposedly removed due to other reasons.
    Biggest problem with this is Gaijin's double standards as they still keep the so called ho ri "production" in the game but remove other tanks in similar situations to it.

But the Panther II is "entirely fictional" even though one prototype hull was built and now sits in the Patton tank museum with Panther G turret on it?? By that logic the E100 is "entirely fictional" and the Flakpanzer 341 "Coelian" is not fictional.

    Panther II is not just a mix of design proposals but also fictional ideas too. The 8,8cm was never intended and neither was a Schmalturm. It was instead intended to use the Panther Ii turm which resembles a schmalturm but was larger and had different angles in the hexagonal profile. A lot of these concepts fictional and proposed conflict with one another causing it to become a mess. The Ho-Ri as far as i can tell is just an attempt of what the mock up would be upon completion and doesn't stretch fiction as much as the Panther II imo.
    It is to me a vehicle I don't mind as long as it is realistic, based in reality, and Gaijin is consistent.

I got used to Men of War depiction that uses classical "vertical plate plus 37mm gun" configuration for said upper hull front plate. The Ho-Ri Production is fictional. There were only three designs as Spookston presented: the initial sloped hull mockup, the Ferdinand-style Ho-Ri I, and the Jagdtiger-style Ho-Ri II. The Ho-Ri III never existed and was just created so people can have something to call the mockup, even if the name itself makes no sense. In WT, the Ho-Ri Prototype is the initial small-scale wooden mockup that never went beyond being that, though that is still incorrectly modeled in relation to the barrel sleeve near the mantlet.

  • @shockblaster1201

    You say that the Panther II is fictional and that the E-100 is like a wooden mockup, but that isn't true. The E-100 had a large part of its hull finished missing automotive gear and a turret, so it is more of a WIP prototype. The Panther II did exist, both hull and turret, but was cancelled later on. The sole remaining hull got mistakenly mated with a Panther Ausf. G turret by US engineers as the original turret was not found, while the Schmallturm that was similar to it was used for target practice.

A 75mm M4A3 would fill the gap left by the M4A2 at 3.7, Britain deserves the M4A4 (Sherman V) since they used it more than any other nation. More is better, I don't care if it's from another nation or not as long as it was used in history and is implemented well, instead of lazy copy/paste.

    • @nesyboi9421
      @nesyboi9421 3 года назад

      @@ODST_Parker well the issue I have with that is that in this case most of it is lazy copy and paste, and it interferes with war thunder's unique nation based gameplay. Shermans are very good at fighting Shermans and its a pain in the arse. I would prefer more unique vehicles to more shermans. Don't get me wrong I love the sherman, but I think if your going to add a sherman to a nation it needs to be fairly unique enough. For example: The Tipo and composite, the chinese's m4a4 with the 76 turret but with a 75, the original british firefly, the m4a4 sa50. Yeah historically all those other nations had normal shermans but its getting crowded. I think the idea for the sherman V being added would be great, as well as a 75mm M4a3, what I don't want is tons of shermans in other nations fighting other nations shermans. Also I think its just Lazy to put in a sherman to fill a gap instead of finding a vehicle that nation made to do so. heck I'd say some of the ones put into italy didn't even fill a gap. We already had a pretty alright 75mm medium tank in the form of the P40, we already had a sherman with the 17 pounder in the form of the Tipo. Like why do we need the firefly when we already have an equivalent. I could go on but this is getting long.
