Why did I buy a Millermatic 211?

- I started my welding journey wanting to learn how to TIG weld. This video covers a little bit of why I just bought a MIG welder when I already have a TIG welder. Miller welders.
I picked up:
Millermatic 211 (new style) - I highly recommend supporting your local welding shop, but if you can't get there, then here is an Amazon link:
www.amazon.com...
Miller Spoolmate 100
Miller 15ft MIG gun
Miller consumable kit.
You will see in the video that I very happy with my purchase! After just a few months of use, I love this machine. I am basically a DIY/garage type welder. I want to eventually start modding up Jon boats. (I have always been interesting in welding, but this is what started it all.)
Talk about how it runs, pros and cons never mind fondling what's in the box.
I've been using the 211 for about 6 years......first one with a transformer burned the board after about a year of use......didnt have time to have it repaired so I bought a new one......it was ok for a while but after about a year I have to turn the heat up to the highest setting as if I'm welding (3/8") when I'm only welding 1/8 wall and I've had other problems with it ......from now one I go with Lincoln........ive had nothing but problems with Miller
Nice review. I looked hard at the 211. Ended up getting a really good deal on the Lincoln 180. Friend of mine got the 211 and loved it.
You get the 215, and the TIG kit with it, and then you could sell the Tig you have, and reduce the footprint of your welder space while keeping the same capabilities, plus the 215 is as fine a machine as Miller has made yet!
Was a smart move getting that 15' gun right off the bat though, and selling the shorter one to help pay for some of it all too. Agree with a couple other comments that you only run 120v if your out and about and have to, on 240v the welder performs as it should. Lastly, Miller is still the best, have used most of them out there, and still run to my Miller when I need the right weld.
Will this unit repair 1\4" aluminum flatbar, cracked trailer ramp .thx
I bought the first edition of the 211 and must say I,ve never had a better welder. Strange accident shorted my main card ( hear it,s $1200 ) so it,s been sitting. Any other alternative ?
Wow, sorry to hear that. I can't help you there....maybe try to score a used one? Probably about the same price though.
Nice machine, good rebate,.
#1) Inverters will eventually go out on you after years of use..
#2) transformer models will.outlive you and me both..
#3) I like that this Machine only cost you 1,000$(apx).
#4) it can handle some pretty sizable jobs .. art projects... Small welding projects. Etc..
Medium sized projects and even good for getting started in welding business on your own.
I liked your unboxing and your comments. You seemed to have thought it out based on what you ordered for accessories. I'm looking at another small welder.... the 211 is not out of the running..
I really liked your video...Thorough...Very informative...Nicely done!!!
Cool, I'd love to grab a Miller machine down the track when our Aussie Dollar gets better, she's a tad sick at the moment. I just bought an Australian brand 250 amp machine, it's a Bossweld MST X250, latest tech, can't wait to get it. Newest tech here in aus, I'll be migging everything I can soon. I think the Millers are so cool, so many features and so many videos on RUclips with people using them, just feel like being a part of the big Miller Club LOL. I'll be starting on Aluminium welding first, Mig and I want to learn Tig later on down the track for sure. My machine can tig but it's DC, so I won't be able to Tig Aluminium ofcourse. Happy welding bud, nice machine.
Do not do it. Production of these machines has gone down hill so much. I worked at the plant in appleton and SO MANY machines come back with issues. People putting them together with no training at all, and they send out broken or incomplete machines to meet quotas. Quantityover quality is their slogan. Miller is trash now.
Hey, great vid on the 211, so many of us are in the same situation with small g-rages and learning, learning, learning. It would be good to hear more about your learning curve going from the tig to the mig for your projects. Perhaps a vid on the spool gun too when you get there. I have been looking at the 211.
I bought the same welder and am totally brand new at welding. Do yo you find, based on your experience and knowledge of welding, that the "Auto Set" feature seems to be spot on for working? Does it seem to set it at the proper voltage and wire feed speed for the preset features based on steel thickness, wire gauge, and gas used?
+choprpilot76 I purposely tried to learn the manual settings and not the autoset. Basically because I didn't want to look like a newbie. Lol. Silly really. Anyway, I have tried to use it some lately and it seems to be a little on the fast side for the wire speed. This could be that I have learned to travel too slow. How did you find it to work?
+KMLTimesTwo Well again I am so new and untrained in welding that I wouldn't know what to compare my experiences with the 211 to so far. But it's interesting to hear you say that you think the wire feed may be to fast in the auto-set mode, because I was thinking the same thing. I love the welder, but I am learning to dial down the speed by just going to the manual settings per the large chart settings on the panel. I dial it down slightly lower and it seems to help, but like you I admit that maybe I'm just going to slow, because as I stated I don't have any experience to base it off of. Thanks.
Another thought as since I started with TIG first, the welds are typically "smaller" or lower profile. The welds I have been getting with the MIG are higher profile and maybe it is my comparison with the TIG that is throwing me off. I watched a bunch of guys on RUclips that are not the experts, but decent enough and they have simliar welds. They always grind them off.
Awesome video, thanks
I’m a newbie. Just bought mine today. Wondering why you got the spook gun
Spool
stevesrt8 I got the spool gun because it was on sale and I thought it would be better when I re-do my Jon boat. It's been 2 years and I have yet to use it! Have fun with your new machine. You will love it.
Just curious how the 15 foot stinger worked out. I've heard the drive rollers don't like to push wire that far.
+Dave Anderson it has been flawless so far. I don't use it a ton though and I am pretty careful with my cables.
I think it would be fine as long as you dont have big bends in the cable.
So how much exactly did this thing cost? right now they have it up on their site for $1,179.00 with a free Jackson auto darkening helmet
In December of 2015, it was $1095 list price. It came with a free miller helmet and also I rebate I think. $100?? (Whatever it was, I say it in the video.) I bought a spoolgun as well, ($246) but haven't used it yet.
I have one of These in The box I was looking for a review set up , Though Guy.
Set up is very simple. Just get into it!
Good luck on driving 035 wire through 15 ft ?
I haven't had the need for .035 yet. Thanks for the heads up.
can you send me a link to the 15' gun you got
Here you go. It's gone up $100 since 2015.
store.cyberweld.com/miller-m-150-mig-gun-249041.html
PS - you might also want to look into a longer (and better) ground connection. I didn't and there were a few times were I wished it was a little longer. Just depends on your set up I guess.
Yea the 10' mig gun that comes with it is ok for bench work but way too short. For other stuff you have too move the welder a lot
Mark Benoit 10ft is a joke for fab projects. Hell even my tig is 25ft so why would I want a 10ft mig.. that don't even wrap around my table. Think I'd almost use spoolmate 150 for the 20ft cord. I do mainly custom fab projects and 10ft is almost un useable for me. Big negative on the welder needing a new 250$ gun to make useable
You can remove the lifting eye afaik you just take the top lid off and flip the eye upside down.
Silas Veldhuis I assume you mean on the syncrowave? I did see that in the manual but I never did do it. But of course it's like anything else is aggravated me over the years. Seems like a good mod for me to do. Thanks for the heads up.
I love this vid, thanks.
+exoduslnx thanks for watching my cheesy little video. Glad you liked it.
+exoduslnx thanks for watching my cheesy little video. Glad you liked it.
where do you get that baby at that price?
+Rocio Ramirez cyberweld.com. I highly recommend them. I would love to support my local dealer but the price difference was just too great.
+Rocio Ramirez I ordered it at cyberweld.com. I was very happy with the purchase. I wanted to order local, but too big of a price difference.
I have the transformer 211. I like it and it has it's place. But for 1/8th and over I like to bust out the stick machine. Save the electric glue gun and reserve the gas for lighter and delicate projects.
Unless you're doing intricate stuff once you get going with mig you'll be over tig. Simple and effective.
have u ever used a generator to run the welder
Nope. Not sure how it would work.
Keith Werchan i have only used it on a generator, 220. works great. bigger honda gen.
I have... 10,000W gas generator, 220/30A plug.... welded GREAT!!
I envy you!!! I want this unit so freaking bad! Sub'd.
+Rob Fern it is such a great welder. It makes it easy! I looked for the longest time for a used one. I only saw 140's though. That size would have been just fine though. Go find you one on Craigslist!
I'll buy me a new one as I'll take it to the grave with me. Not a big fan of used stuff...depends...
1025 dollars,its very good price::
i recently place a comment on your video about millermatic211,i send this message to miller i tell you wath happen later, sorry i have to comment this, my experience in the first 3 months of use from the millermatic 211... 2 big problems, first the original gun on the machine come with a gas leak from nozzle....and l know you guys receive a lot of complains about this, because i hear other welders talk to you!....no only that now i am confronting a different problem is that when i plug the welder with the 120 plug the beaker on the machine turn the machine off don't work, only with 220,l need this machine to be 110 that was the reason i buy it also what model of gun its going to solve my problem i need model and brand if ill going to change need a 15 ft, because the gas is escaping! or else i want my money back to buy a different machine! who work 110 and 220 correctly
this machine 211 come with problem with on the gun and the 110 plug on this model i send a message to miller, a week ago they don't respond yet!
Why not contact your local miller dealer? Did you buy it online? Because our local dealer helps fix issues like this and have you tried calling them instead of messages? Anyway did miller take and fix it and make it right for you.
Why has the price risen so much? 😫 I would surely buy this today for ~$1000
Tell me about it! I should have bought 6 of them back then!!
Because people voted for Democrats, that's why.
AAAAAAhh you should have learned stick first it's the hardest!
gunnar stahl stick is the easy
christine lopez wat did you start off doing let me guess stick
no i started with mig
I started with flux core
I started with stick. Back when I learned, you were supposed to learn oxy-acetylene first. Back them that made sense. Most MIG machines were expensive, and a lot of smaller shops only had stick welders or a torch set. Today small Mig Welders are common enough that if a shop only has one welder, it's probably Mig.
That spool gun is 500 now….
🇺🇸👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
lol awesome 😎 intro
Wow you got a deal I didn’t get nothing
Yeah, I am glad I mentioned the price....funny now to look back. Prices went way up.
I started with mig and stick came easily
Mig is misleading in its ease of use. It’s like a hot glue gun for metal. The problem is if it’s done wrong it will fail under use. A weld can look terrible and be strong or look good and be weak.
For sure. Thanks for your reply.
POS miller has open circuit boards and after metal dust gets on the circuit board it will fry mine fried after 4 rolls of wire .never ment yo work in a dirty environment
Mine has been 100% flawless since day 1. I am a simple novice, but unless you are rolling that thing around in the dirt it should not have died that soon. Seems like there is another issue there. What happened. Did they repair it? All that said, your comments make we want to cover mine when not in use. My shop is fairly clean, but there is certainly dust, etc that settles in the machine.
I have had better luck with every miller I have used. My lincoln is a nice welder when it works.
Chinese parts no better than an everlast, just some small branded differences, they even have the same plastic latch on the cabinet that the everlast has.
an "unboxing" vid. that's all
Dave - at the time, there were no other vids posted on this new design. There are plenty of videos how to weld. I just wanted to cover what I bought and why I bought it.
211 or 212 no difference
AAAAAAhh you should have learned stick first it's the hardest!
moj revshare eh, it’s not that hard. TIG is more difficult.
Its not hard at all
