You gotta love how much the game refuses to let anything go OoB, I mean, for one of the first 3D games, there is no real OoB glitches other than Black Rooms. The fact that it even moves the bob-omb to Mario's location when it is out of bounds makes me love this game's code ten times more.

It is already well known that you can go to "limbo", basically a location where you can't see Mario, you can run but the game registers Mario as being in the same place. First, it still not a real OoB, you can't move freely. Second, afaik, you can't do this on a console, the game would freeze.
What an odd failsafe. It's not just putting the bomb in front of Mario because he was holding it before? Only when it's out of bounds? That seems like potential for a lot more glitches, if just getting an (inactive?) object out of bounds warps it to Mario.
Tyler Kehne No, the bob-omb isn't the only one. I know the crazy box also does this, and others I think too. The bob-omb is unique in that its snapping to Mario's position can be delayed, since the bob-omb becomes deactivated. The crazy box doesn't allow for this delaying for some reason.
+John Yorson (GoombaHeart) Well, really HOLP displacement is the offending error in this situation, because it's the only reason you can get the bob-omb far away enough from Mario that it can deactivate and also be out of bounds. True, if there wasn't a grabbable object that could be deactivated, this wouldn't be possible, but the existence of one isn't an error, just a design decision on their part - one that certainly was not a problem under normal play scenarios.

Took me until the end of the video to realize that you had been cloning coins so you could go up using the coin star. Like, even after I saw it happen it took me a little while to realize the significance of the setup.

I'm not aware of any hat-in-hand instances that this trick saves. Usually, I use the hat-in-hand glitch to place goomba clones in specific locations, but the instant release cannot be used with clones, so it couldn't replace those. I don't know what you mean by "using the momentum of the cork box". The instant release works with all grabbable objects except for bowser. So it does work with MIPS. And doesn't MIPS already save the 30 star door? It's not like you would need this glitch to do anything about it.

You don't need to be pushed off a ledge. You just need to dive into an object while also diving into a wall. So the setup is a bit precise, because you need to be facing a wall while also facing an object next to that wall. So you could place MIPS next to a wall and then run towards the wall next to MIPS and dive into both MIPS and the wall at once. The instant release glitch cannot be used to throw an object, since Mario bonks his head. Whereas the Top of the Fortress strat involved specifically throwing the box. This means it can only be used to spawn something at the HOLP laterally, but at Mario's current height. And I guess grabbing Bowser is just programmed differently.
Megadardery the benefit of instant release is basically doing HOLP tricks w/o hat-in-hand, so there's no benefit to using this glitch if hat-it-hand is already possible on that stage.

i understand im probably commenting on the wrong video but i just need help with the timing of cloning when i go to put down a bob-omb and go to pick it back up it explodes i cant run in time to pick it up and even when i press the button immediately after throwing the bob-omb it still lands and blows up and the cork block when i ground pound with it in my hand (it falls down does not slide) i make sure to stand right next to it and while its flashing i always get it too early or too late

+RadianSCT It allows him to do it with 0 A presses. In the video where he gets the star with one A press, that's the part where he does it. Getting the star lets him clip through the ground onto the platform above, because of the way the game acts when you get a star midair.

ITGAlex I'm assuming it's impossible to get into either tick tock clock or rainbow ride, so you'd have to get 70 stars elsewhere.
