The definition of MVP. He makes his teammates better with his game. Jokic can go put his head down and get his, but he's looking for the best play always. He can pass backing down, pass with either hand just as well, he has touch with bounce passes and the behind-the-back stuff, and the he's not a black hole with the ball just pounding the rock into the floor for 20 seconds before he acts. He's Luka with another 6 inches, and every bit as special a talent as Doncic or anyone else.
Good comment, but I say that Jokic is even more special than Luka because of his height, court vision, mentality, and decision-making. Luka can pass when he wants to, but I'm not convinced that he has the pass-first mentality and decision-making that has garnered Jokic the respect he has earned over the past three seasons. If Luka had those qualities, perhaps the Mavs would have been more relevant as a title contender than they were. Also, the fact that Jokic is six inches taller than Luka is what makes him a cheat code for the Nuggets, certainly when it comes to rebounding and court vision. Jokic's skill set for his height is beyond what any other current player comparable to him can do for their team.
what I love about his passes is that they're not flashy just for the sake of being flashy. if he goes behind-the-back, it's because that was the **only** way to get the pass through. if he goes no-look, it's because he needed to look off the defender. but when the simplest pass works, he goes with what works.
Great analysis. As fans of Jokic's game, I think we get so caught up in his flair for passing the ball that we tend to overlook *why* he did what he did. One could argue that perhaps it was this analysis that eluded the MVP voters this year and why he didn't three-peat as MVP. Certainly, there's no reason to believe that the likes of Kendrick Perkins would have arrived at such an observation. On a related note, and like all the great passers, many guys Jokic is or has played with are going to get paid because of his passes and pass-first(?) mentality. He makes role players look like All-Stars and All-Stars look like MVPs.
Whats also impressive is that in most of these clips the game is either close, or they're winning. These aren't garbage time passes, these are important plays he's making. Goat.
Been watching for 60 years; I have never seen anyone better. And he can rebound. And score. I have never seen anyone with such a touch in the lane as he has with his floater. I kinda stopped watch the NBA a few years ago; he's making it a lot of fun once again.
@@CCEkeke You're right. Magic was great. He was a great passer; efficient, not flashy. He played basketball the way it was meant to be played. Same goes for Bird. And what a great individual as well as team rivalry. In Magic's rookie year, if memory serves, he ended up playing all five positions at one point, playing center for Kareem, who was either injured or in foul trouble in the playoffs. I was fortunate enough to see Wilt Chamberlain in his prime. What I didn't appreciate then but learned later (after seeing old footage of his days with the Sixers), is what a good passer he was, especially inside the key. Great passers are really fun to watch.
To be aware that he is going to get you the ball in these situations is amazing. So basically you can trust the fact that if you have an open lane, his vision is so spot on, he's going to get you the ball.
Love the quick decision making. Makes the game more enjoyable versus watching someone who needs 14 seconds of dribbling to determine if they want to shot or pass.
how great you have to be for your team mates to cut and jump for the alley oop almost before the ball leaves your hand, with the faith that he'll consistently find them. great work on the coach side.
Sheesh!!! 💪🏾❤️ it’s being decades since such a beautiful and artistry basketball wasn’t played!!! Jokish is in other level of IQ. Oh my God!!! Great video bro!!!🔥
I would love to see Magic Johnson's passes vs Jokic because those two are towards the absolute peak of some of the best creative / elite passers in the league.
Great video. No excessive replays. Just highlight to highlight. Reminiscent of DownToBuck. Please keep making highlight videos like this, no one seems to get it
Art of passing is not just the accuracy of the pass. The most important thing is to see plays ahead of everyone. He is one of the best to read the defense.
You know, maybe- just maybe America will embrace European players for what they bring to the game. I am not a NBA fan, but Nikola is an immense talent and I hope he helps Denver to win their first Championship. His play is so crazy good and versatile it's ridiculous. Love him!
Great Segment, thankyou!!! Such a TIRED old saying we've heard for years, "For a big man, he passes well." If you see plays before they happen, You Just Got It. Regardless of your height. Nobody ever said, for a short player, he can't pass for sh*t.
Live in Denver and just barely a basketball fan. But I have watched many Nuggets games recently, just to see Jokic passing. Don't care much about scoring (which is important, of course), but the assists are crazy entertaining. I hope Nuggets can keep the team together for awhile - not "me me me" but "us us us".
I've also been watching the NBA for more than 50 (gasp) years. The best passers I've seen range from Magic to Stockton and Nash to Isiah, Bird, and Kidd -- in whatever order. The one thing Magic had over Nikola was that he could do this at a faster speed. But I'm also not sure that anyone I've seen has the vision, touch and accuracy of Jokic at that high of a level.
One major leader to the success of these passes is that his teammates move without the ball. So they are getting into position to score and he can get them the ball while the defense is looking at defending him. But some of the passes are just spectacular.
One thing about it, he encourages the offense because they know if they get open, he'll find a way to get the ball to him. I've seen offense give up the hustle because they know it wouldn't matter if they got open, they wouldn't get the ball. Not so w/Jokic
Th body language of the opposing teams says it all. It has to be so demoralizing to play your best D only to have Joker make no-look passes to guys who aren't even open for the easiest lay-ups in the game
I'm a Sixers fan, but this guy and not Embiid is the best center in the NBA. Embiid is a distant second best center. He's most definitely the best passer and playmaker in the NBA right now and one of best ever. I really enjoy watching this guy play. He's the best player in the NBA right now.
Jokic makes his team better when his on the floor. He only chooses to scorethat much when count it most but that rebound and assists, its a BEAUTY, that what makes BASKETBALL easier for his teamto play.
tuned out the NBA when tattoos and "attitude" came into the game 30 years ago . And Leboon James, Kobe Bryant , Iverson etc kept me away , but this guy is a genius , pure skill and though , eyes in the back of his head ! Will start watching him , at least !
You know, the no-look pass seemed to almost be a lost art in the NBA 'til the Joker came along. He's like the only player I've seen in over a decade that does them on a regular basis. As great as dropping dimes as LeBron is, I'm not sure I've ever seen him throw a no-look.
giving the MVP award to Embiid is an insult. Anyone with any basketball intelligence can instantly tell Jokic is a much better player. If only the voters can cast their votes color blinded, Jokic would be a 3 time MVP.
I loved defense, I always said "hey, if the player I'm on can't get the ball, he can never score. Then pick up your points in demoralizing easy transition plays." An attacker must vanquish, a defender must merely survive. ~Sun Tzu

easily the greatest playmaking center of all time and one of the greatest playmakers of all time period
Yep.
The greatest playmaker among the centers and even more definitely the best center among the playmakers 😂😅
Agreed
i will say this when he will do this in other teams than the nuggets under mike malone

Like a lot of people here, I've watched basketball since I was little. In the last 65 years, I have never seen a better passer than Jokic.
lol, the hyperbole yall give to white guys is insane.
I'm from Denver & i've never seen such a talented & selfless player.
Makes us proud!
Been watching the NBA for 50 years and joker is one of the best at delivering the ball on time for easy buckets.

Wow! This was fun! Didn't realize how artistic his passing skill is. Excited to see him in the finals now!
the most impressive center of the last 5 years, Embiid is far behind this monster
Its true 😊🇷🇸
15 years bro, if you consider Duncan as PF.
Ebiid has good size and is skilled for a big man. Jokic is from another planet. There's never been anything like it. The closest would be Larry Bird.
the most impressive center ever. there, i said it.

Correction. The best center ever in the NBA.
I would love to see Magic Johnson's passes vs Jokic because those two are towards the absolute peak of some of the best creative / elite passers in the league.
Nikola jokic already better than Larry bird passing; & rebounding & in the paint scoring

amazing stuff. also the way the whole team is in sync. like all i gotta do is get open & jokic gonna set me up even if its not really possible 😂

He passes better than most guards
He passes better than all guards in the NBA. One of the best passers of all time
@@dxfifa you’re right
Because guards now love isolation and dribbles.
@@angryralphs2516 true that
he passes better than anyone in history with the possible exceptions of only magic, bird and nash

Jokic passes the ball MUCH better than Jordan ever did. Much better!
A breath of fresh air.
Kind of reminds me of Bird. Bird made wicked no look, behind-the-back passes. Joker is definitely the best passer, playmaker today.

Magic was certainly better at getting into a fast break but in a half court I don’t think even magic has the vision, deception and touch
Wow. I haven't seen a big man with that kind of touch and vision since Bill Walton.
as long as he's healthy he should be MVP every season
He's the best passer in the league, and it's really not close.
He should have been the MVP
Haven’t seen vision and passing like this since Bird.
Jokic has such high basketball IQ. Very good vision. It is great to watch a player making such beautiful passes.
the play at 1:33 will barton is like at the 3pt line when jokic passes. just crazy vision, seeing the future on that play no lie

I swear, he has an eye in the back of his head. On top of it, an alien living in his body and built a command center to asses and execute everything
Some of these he pretty much looks like a magician with those hands. Like a literal magician.

This is beautiful basketball. Reminds me of the 2014 Spurs! Glad team basketball is back!
It's also good that his teammates are there when he does the pass

I stopped watching basketball after the Jordan era but now jokic has made me watch again! Fun to watch his crazy skills
Literally the only problem the nuggets have is that Jokic is gonna get these dudes so paid that they won't be able to keep them all 😆
Jokic’s passing mixtapes are right up there with Steve Nash and Jason Williams at this point
