Other than encountering a bear in the wilderness, doxxing/swatting is my biggest fear. Just imagine chilling on a random day, and out of nowhere police start furiously knocking on your door and just one wrong move and you're bye bye lol.

@huh If it’s a genuine swatting, they’re gonna assume that the call they got was true, someone could’ve told them that u have hostages, firearms, or even a bomb. They will ASSUME that whatever is said about u or the place u live in is true, hence one wrong move, or if u move too fast they’re gonna take action since they think that ur already dangerous.

My worst experience on discord was sending a roblox file that ended in my roblox account getting hacked (which I got back). I had no clue stuff like this went on on such a popular app, I'm glad that you brought this to light so people like me who use it frequently can stay safe.

I’m genuinely shocked this side of discord just deadass wasn’t known by most already, and that and it is finally being exposed. It’s gone on for way too long and seriously needed to get put out there for the world to see.
there is a part of discord where cp is sold and you can see up to 10 people buy terabytes of child porn through their roles on the discord server. there are necrophiliacs, pedophiles, gore content, rape content. you arent safe on discord at all. fullstop.

Discord is just so controversial in general.
I have been using the app for 4 years now. About a year ago, I took the responsibility of growing my own discord server after moderating a couple of my friends’. It was really fun at first, I met a lot of amazing people and new friends throughout my journey. Later, the server was growing more and more, up to 4k members. A lot of toxicity rose. Maybe it was just the reach that I was specifically was getting, I got a bunch of dox/death threats for literally no reason at all. People will dislike you for no reason. You’d get your server nuked, spammed, sometimes, deleted. Just because people don’t like you, it’s like they have nothing else to do. I empathize for those sometimes.
I recently quit. I realized what a waste of time it was at the end but at least I have something to look back to and laugh about lmaooo
Yeah, moderating stuff in larger servers is really tough because the more people you let in, the more likely rotten eggs will be among them. In smaller servers, you can nuke bad apples rather quickly.
The kinds of servers I have with friends nowadays, we try to let in only people whose background we know or who are friends of friends. We rarely have any issues this way, so the mod title is more for stuff like adding bots/emojis, sending invitations when needed and settings.
Even the blacklists were so toxic and weird. Like back when I was in a/pm hubs I would always see blacklists documents abt srvrs who would nuke and raid other srvrs or just downright be deplorable in their own srvr. I'd even see blacklists abt ppl who were connected to other past blacklists. Some blacklists were abt "oh this person scammed a lot of ppl/stole my work" and quite a few were "this person or srvr is legit a p3d0 and racist etc".
I have seen my fair share of stupid blacklists tho. One was legit in a srvr where I was an icon uploader, some ppl legit made a blacklist on a person calling them racist and ableist cuz they used some language symbols in their layout and fancy fonts. The entire text convo was just the person who wrote the blacklist being like this is racist and ableist but I'm not gonna explain why cuz i won't argue with a bigot. It was like 2-3 pages 😭😭😭😭😭

The doxxing and ddosing portion reminded me when i was 12 and would join the parties of people that invited me on xbox so i could play them. these people were usually in the same lobby. there was one time where i mildly annoyed a random player in my game, the player then invited me to a party, and me being 12 thought i’d be funny to listen to them rage. i get into the party and the dude immediately starts taking trash and being 12, i takes trash back. he ended up getting angry enough to pull my ip and doxx me. i was really scared after that and haven’t really messed with people after that. just stay safe, don’t join any party with people you don’t know, and try to stay off of the ip databases

I remember being scared one time because I was playing gta back in 2015 on my ps3 and I swear it was a lot easier to boot people back then because u didnt even need to join their party or anything they’d boot you from the game, I kept killing people and one of these people were telling me “if u don’t stop killing I’m gna boot you off” and I stopped because I was scared and he just sent me my address, now when someone tries to boot me I usually just say do it because then I could switch routers, but it’s still scary because they could have access to a lot of things through your internet, I just say stick to playing with your friends and don’t be toxic to strangers

this is DISGUSTING beyond words! Every day I hear some scary stories from discord, every day I see youtubers exposing discord, thank God, I left it for good.
a while back I discovered a shit ton of servers that promoted eating disorders and it really affected me. it was horrible and I'm so sorry if you've had the same expirience
I once had my nudes used to attempt to black mail me. When she first sent me the threats I was super shook, but I handled it in a way that nothing ever came of it.
Here are some ways to handle a situation like this:
1. Make sure you get a picture of the threat. I was able to literally get a Perfect screen shot of them saying to give them money or they will post me.
2. Get pics of their account and all information connected to it.
3. This one may be harder for some than others but it’s important to make sure you are in control. This manifested as me saying that I would post them myself, and then all of their info, alongside a report to the authorities.
4. Ignore them entirely. Now this is the step that could backfire depending on who you’re dealing with. I was being blackmailed for money, and their whole gameplan relied on me panicking. Once I didn’t it wasn’t hard to get them to fuck off. If the person has truly malicious intent, and is not trying to just get money then you’ll have to decide whether or not you want to anger them by not responding.
5. In the case that you’re a minor, try keep as detailed records of the messages and threats as you can. You’d be surprised how cocky some of these bastards can be, the girl who blackmailed me had her location on. If the authorities can trace anything back to them, they’ll get hit with at minimum blackmail and possibly child pornography.
6. Also in the case you’re a minor: TELL YOUR FUCKING PARENTS. I promise you, dealing with your parents is going to be easier than this if they actually do get a hold on you. I know it’ll probably get you in trouble but if you show your parents that you are in danger, any parent worth having a kid won’t even begin to be mad at you until after it’s been resolved.
7. Spread the word. I posted the girls account on all of my socials and let them know what they are doing. It isn’t a true counter dox but it will help people to support you.

- Never send nudes. If you know the person for a long time, trust her and have seen her IRL and is willing to do it : you can. Otherwise, never and you won't have to worry.

But I was less worried abt those(I ain’t got no third leg or none but I’m not ashamed of what I’m rocking with) and more worried about the fact that she had my address, zip, and lots of other personal info she was able to get off me without ever asking me abt it. The crap on discord I’ve seen is absolutely disgusting. From servers with racists, creeps sharing illegal stuff, and just weirdos. It’s most definitely the most cursed social platform I know of besides twitter because the anonymity. I’m never letting my kids have discord when I have kids. They should take measures to make sure creeps aren’t as rampant on there

Last year I was in a server (about 15k members) and I was just sitting in general chat talking to some people when some dude started sending CP images into general, I called a mod into the chat and they were banned and the images were removed immediately. My friends and I reported the person who sent the cp, but honestly I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get that experience out of my head. I’m not in that server anymore due to what happened, but I really don’t believe how calm I was in that situation.

I've been a victim of extreme harassment by people in the "OG" community. I dated a guy in that community and it turned out he was pretty much batshit insane and when I eventually broke up with him, he threatened to dox me, got people to harass me for over 6 months -- it was so bad I had to delete instagram and change my phone number. In my discord server at the time, someone joined and made my nudes their pfp and was going to post it so I had to ban them from the discord and I just deleted the server all together. I think the harassment has pretty much stopped now but I've had to change a lot of passwords and such because of him. I know it was really dumb of me to get myself in this situation in the first place, so please don't reply saying something along those lines. I wanted to share this so that people can learn from my mistakes and not get into these situations because it is disgusting and horrible. My advice is to stay away from those communities and NEVER give out anything more than your first name/face no matter how much you think you trust the person.
That was a dumb mistake, but you solved the problems and fixed it. That's better than 99% of People.
yep i used to be friends with these group of people and id only talk to them like every now and then. they were pretty toxic and made edgy jokes and i grew away from that, so i left and unfriended them. ever since then they have been stalking and harassing me and its been almost 2 years. they contacted my friends through my social media profiles and spread screenshots of things i used to say. i was never even close with these people and i always had closer friend groups than their group when I was friends with them. because of them ive had to delete a lot of my social media profiles and i used to have nightmares pretty often. the nightmares were like them kidnapping me and chopping my head off, just scary stuff lol. i literally never even voice called with them and they've never seen my face. thank god they probably only know my first name, i cant imagine what they'd do if they knew more information.

I once a victim of blackmail at discord.
I make art and comics for fun, I gained fans and popularity as a return. There was a fanatic that's truly obsessed with me, donating large amounts of donation repeatedly and also trying so hard to get my attention. At that point, I had enough with the creepy messages he sent to me and decided to block him. He was furious and manage to screenshot my secrets by bribing my friends.
I was threatened to pay back the donations he sent and do horrific things or my reputation would be destroyed. It's probably the most stressful thing I had in the internet. The blackmailer still got away without punishment however, the guilt he carry is unforgiveable.

I had multiple discord servers before. One of the things i hate most about discord is people that feels okay about spamming gore just because i banned their main account because they were asked to follow the rules multiple times. The most disturbing part is that the gore picture looks real. This had happen to me 2 times. Having gore in your gallery is weird asf

I have joined discord for studying and the community on that server is amazing . I never got to know the dark side of discord. After watching this video, I'll take more care when using discord, especially the anonymity!
I've never really told anybody my story in full so I might as well tell it in full here.
There was once an old primarily Discord based community that existed which centered around Old Roblox Revivals. It was one of the first public discord communities that I ever joined and it just so happened to be one of the most problematic ones too. All the staff in the servers were at most 17, averaging at around 12- 16. Being that virtually no one was even of legal age drama was inevitably a constant force in most if not all Old Roblox Revival servers.
Now that in itself would constitute as a pretty bad experience in itself, but this hails in comparison to one of the most disturbing and fucked experiences I've ever had to go through on Discord. In the mist of all the stuff happening in the GT discord there was this unbelievably twisted fuck called "woolfy" who slowly became more demented in his actions. At first he just started with raiding the server a couple times. Then it escalated to doxing, he would send random ip grabber links in dm's and grab there IP address's. And instead of blackmailing the victims he would instead spam all of the doxed information in the GT server while pinging everyone who was listed in the dox.
I was one of the victims of the doxing and while speaking with him in dm's I asked him why he was doing this to us he and specifically replied with (First message "I'm selling them.") (Second message "to rapist"). As a 13 year old this scared the shit out of me as I had never felt so out of control of a situation ever before in my life. And as if this wasn't as fucked up of a story already, apparently this "woolfy" of sorts somehow managed to be step up his level of degeneracy by spamming an other server I was in with some god forsaken cp. That shit scared me for months and still somewhat does to this day.
Fortunately, unlike other stories that I've heard, this guy actually got caught with an IP grabber and some of the staff were able to match this alt account to his other main account in one of the revival discord servers. There was an announcement in one of the servers about how the staff had managed to pool together as many receipts as possible and sent them to the FBI. I've never heard of the person since. I don't know if he was ever caught.
Fortunately my experience on Discord has since taken a full 360 and has been pleasant since.
The secret ingredient to having a positive experience on Discord is just using it for friends and irl people.

I use to be a server owner. This server of mine had around 2000 members and I worked hard to put it in that current state. I don't really understand how this happened but one night I logged into Discord and I saw that only 6 people were in my server. Me, a few bots, and some person named "Lany". It was honestly freaky because I was around 12 in 2016/2017. I asked them "what happened" and "who are you" and I only got answers like "i'm outside your house" or "i'm behind you" (a window was behind me) and reasonably any child would become worried and paranoid. I was most likely hacked because he had complete ownership of the server now and hopefully this isn't as big of an issue nowadays with the 2FA as it was back then.

I’ve been on discord since i was 13, and i was groomed. I thought a 20 year old man seriously loved me so i decided to share an explicit image of myself. When I made him mad he decided to blackmail me, telling me he would send my pics to my family and friends if i didn’t tell him what to do, and he also said he had all of my info. This went on for a year until i had the courage to tell people and plus my mom, he cowardly decided to delete all the messages and his social media accounts and he landed in jail. I’m glad i quit discord, don’t make it ruin your life. I was a scared little girl put in her most vulnerable moment. I’m glad i could share my story and please if someone is blackmailing you, minor or not, tell someone you can absolutely trust. Thank you Tuv community!! 💗💗💗

My story: So I have been using Discord for 5 years, and obviously I have seen a lot of weird shit and a lot of weird people. So, I joined this dating server that was 18+, and people already started DM'ing me. I responded to all of them, most of them were (men genital) pictures. But there was someone who said my first name, but my name was my username. So I said "Ahhh I'm so scareddd" and he got pissed. He pulled my IP and told me to send him pictures. Me being me, I knew how to pull IP's too. So I gave him his IP and he told me he would dox me. I asked him the first step to doxxing. And he blocked me.

I remember when I was about 11 I found myself in a discord server entirely dedicated to self-harm. There were chats where people would share methods on how to more efficiently hurt themselves, and there were channels of people just sending photos of their arms and legs. A lot of the people on that server (including myself) were young and obviously mentally ill so I don't blame them and I hope they're alright but I just cannot think of a reason why someone would make a server like that. It wasn't even a support group, everyone in that server was encouraging this behavior and many people, including myself, fell into an even deeper hole. This server isn't at all responsible for my mental health issues, but I probably could have avoided permanent damage physically if I hadn't joined.

When I was 10 I downloaded discord thinking it was a cool and fun app, I didn't know what could happen. I saw many things I shouldn't have, and I'm pretty sure that's what worsened my ocd for example, I saw p*rn in its ways and I saw people saying stuff I shouldn't see, I even used to send my face then say "rate me" you know I got fucked up by discord. I was so scared when I realized how bad that is to the point where I changed how I looked like, I don't exactly remember if I wore glasses that time but I think I didn't, well now I do. I heard ppl say discord is bad stuff like that and I thought it was shit, so I didn't care and thought I was gonna be safe there, I'm just thankful I never told anyone my real name. Though, now I'm not scared knowing I've changed and I know realize how dangerous the internet is, sometimes I'm even glad that happened because otherwise I would've stayed the same and wouldn't be cautious here. Remember, NEVER EVER send anything personal no matter what, and especially nudes.

I own a server with almost 400 people now, and the things people try to pull are insane. The app has so many positives, and I've seen through my server people be very positively impacted. But, it's way too often that people will go out of their way to attack others for no particular reason. Usually in discriminatory ways, might I add. Furthermore, the app itself does absolutely nothing to protect it's users from these dangerous people. There has been time and time again where my reports are denied, despite the fact I have concrete evidence. They put it all on their users to moderate their own app, and at some point, I just have to think; why??

One person was being very racist towards another member. I reported him, so did the victim of this. Nothing. Those are just two examples. I'm glad you've had good situations, truly. I haven't personally experienced much of dark things on discord. But there is one thing that stands out, and I will always remember that. I was like 14 yo kiddo and I joined a brand new server for roblox military group. Not long after I joined, some user started to spam a video of a guy being cut in half alive. I was so terrified at the time that I couldn't sleep for three days. The user was obviously banned and reported on discord.
13:30 One of my teachers was caught in one of these. He had been discreetly taking and distributing pictures of students aged 13-16, in some cases somehow managing to get them up people skirts. Somebody went onto his computer and were horrified to find a bunch of cp that he forgot to close, that old creep had been looking at it in class.
There was a few hundred pictures of students, although that's horrible the most disgusting things were stuff that he'd downloaded elsewhere. He had 7600 more extreme images and over 10 hours of videos of mainly young boys being abused.
It makes me shudder to think that he might have been looking at me, my friends or classmates in a sexual way. Sometimes I worry if he ever got any pictures of me and shared them in these disgusting trading circles. I seriously hope there's none of me floating around out there.
He'd been doing this for about 3 or 4 years in my school (I have no idea how nobody noticed). He got fired, arrested, placed on a register and sentenced to only three and a half years. He was 50 years old.
To be fair, he was probably killed in prison. People don’t like pedophiles-in short, literally any pedo that is caught gets killed in jail if they get their papers pulled by an inmate.

Something that makes me feel really uncomfortable is that they lived down the road from me, which is literally about a 5 minute walk or less from a primary school (that I also went to while they were here). There's children around here practically constantly, who they would have been around. In terms of location, it's a bit out of the way for getting to the high-school and it's more expensive since it's desirable for families with younger children. They (thank god) didn't have children, so it doesn't make any sense for them to live in this area, it's only awkward for them and expensive. Idk, that just creeps me out for obvious reasons.

I'm 25 and have been on the internet since I was around 6 or 7 when dial-up was still a thing. What I cannot stress enough for ANYONE who is on Discord and is a minor - KEEP YOUR ANONYMITY. Only use your web/alias/usernames, never reveal ANY information. Also, never try to reveal your face either. Blur your face or put an emoji over it. You cannot trust anyone on the internet.
Edit 03/25: I got reminded of this comment I made - also make sure to remove any GeoTagging or location from the EXIF data of photos you may post online. You can google how to remove it for iPhone or Androids on previous photos and how to turn it off.

My friend who was 13 at the time met a 17 year old called "Angel" through discord and they were in a relationship. My other friends tried convincing and telling my friend multiple times that it was not okay and that it was pedophilia since "Angel" was gonna turn 18 in a few months. That led to a whole controversial argument.
My friend felt sympathetic for her girlfriend because she was suicidal and one of my friends made a suicide joke on how "Angel" would be better off dead which didn't help the situation and made it worse. Eventually my others friends had enough and called off the friendship and unfriended each other.
Me on the other hand didn't know what to do because I was on vacation when all of that was happening and I didn't know what to say and when my friend asked for my opinion I just said something along the lines of how I will support their relationship if they are both happy. But I only said that because I was afraid of ruining my friendship with her because we've been friends for years.
Today, I think their relationship has come to an end since I recently stalked my friends account and shes in a new relationship but I really hope she learned something from all of that and that "Angel" has a sense of mind since she is becoming of age.
I think Discord should be treated with very high caution, especially for minors cos they’re going to be mentally scarred for a long time.
It needs to do vigorous background checks and stuff like that.
That part of the creepy private messages, reminded me of those real life stories of the internet chatrooms with groomers, predators etc. that you’d hear about as a kid back in the early 2000’s This was back when Bebo was at its most popular too! God the security on those websites was awful as well.
One type of server that you didn’t mention was gore servers. There are some where people post their own self harming videos and videos of people killing themselves or others. I was forced to join one and it changed how I looked at life and how stuff like that actually happens.

I remember I was in a sever with a bunch of my friends. We were a bunch of edgy, depressed teens and we had a channel dedicated to SH( self h*rm). We didn't just talked about cutting and releasing, nope, we also sended photos of our wounds. I,sadly, had some self harm issues and would send photos to the channel. The thing is that those people were very toxic and left the sever (this happened like one or two years ago) . Now, I'm 11 months clean and never contacted those people ever since.
Edit: I'm now a year clean and I really wanna say thank you for the nice comments. I've been struggling with school and mental health lately and these comments make my day. :)
