@@JoeysRetroHandhelds you are welcome! Thank you for making my summer great this year with all of your insightful content covering these handheld consoles
Same thing happened to mine , seems like a common quality control issue , I also seen a issue with scraping buttons, anbernic was known for good quality consoles seems like that's going down. I'm really hesitant to get another device. We shouldn't have to go through replacing the housing when you buy a new device.
Hey Joey I had my rg405m for about a month now and I’ve been loving it. Up until recently I accidentally dropped it outside with it in a case. I though it would be okay because of the case but turns out my L1 and L2 buttons don’t function properly anymore. Do you have any idea as how I can fix that?
The r1 and r2 buttons are failing on mine, hoping i can get a new main board from Anbernic. This video has given me confidence tearing it apart, top vid 👍
So I got the response "I am very sorry, the current sale of accessories is only available as an after-sales support for orders from our store." So if yours breaks and you didnt order it from China your screwed....top service I was even prepared to pay for the replacement board.....
@@JoeysRetroHandheldsyo dude i managed to get a board replacement but it seems like my battery shield screws are super glued in there that tight. Have you any tips around this by any chance?
As yet Anbernic aren't selling replacement screens directly, and only doing so through warranty like you did, however i bought mine off ebay and i'm looking to get the screen replaced, as it's not perfect. does anyone know where i can buy one ?
My rg405m just died. I really need it repaired as it's a sentimental gift. I was running Dolphin MMJR, it froze and didn't power back on. It won't even charge. Is there anywhere i can send it to get repaired?
i was moving my button order around and ended up borking the touchscreen - everything else works fine, but i can't seem to find/determine which connectors control the touchscreen on the board. i've watched this a few times and unless i'm missing it can't find if you mention it. are you familiar by chance?
Hey@@JoeysRetroHandhelds , thanks for your reply, but I did exactly what you said and my RG405m just bricked at restarting by rumbling over and over. Is there something special to do ? Unbricking the device right now.
Hi Joey, nice and very clear video thx. Ps is it possible (if you have this info) you can supply me the brand and modelnumber of the display? Hope to hear from you. With kind regards, Jeroen
They sent me just the replacement screen, no shells, do you have any advice on removing the original screen completely from the original shell? Or should I just get back in touch with them and beg for a replacement shell with it preinstalled like they sent you.
I hope you may belle to help me? I have the 405M and I keep getting the following error:RGLauncher error keeps popping up, can't get rid of it, restarted the game several time, nothing. Forced stopped the launcher, nothing. Any suggestions are appreciated.
I had a problem with the R1 trigger. It was fine until yesterday. I've sent a message to the seller of ali express. I hope they answer me with a solution asap!
My Left Analog stick suddenly stopped responding. All other buttons work perfectly fine! Funny because this happened last night while I was using my device and it was perfectly fine up until this morning. Can it be the Analog stick itself? Would I have to replace it? I’m not sure what to do at all and this is the very first time it’s happened with my device since I purchased it 4 months ago! Any clue or tips to help me sort this out? Thanks!’
Does it happen after reboots? If so, could check the connection of the ribbon like in my video, otherwise you may need to ask warranty support for a replacement stick.
@@JoeysRetroHandheldsthanks for the reply! So I ended up opening the device myself and referenced your videos steps, I removed the battery and made sure all ribbon cables were on well. I did find 2 loose cables and tightened them up, restarted my device and BOOM! It’s working perfectly again, thank you so much💪🏽
anyone knows the part number to replace the switch under the R1 and R2 button? Not getting any response from Anbernic unfortunately, so will try to repair it myself once i know what part to order... please help me out!!
Mine is having issues with the R1 trigger like some others. Anbernic is going to send me a new motherboard for exchange, the RG405M is great, but these issues take away his premium status.
@@memaimu Not all clicks are captured, I saw on Anbernic's reddit other people complaining about this. They are complaining that the used buttons are not suitable for triggers.
@@UltimatoRaul Interesting. I am sure there is a chance it will eventually happen to me on that side. This is already an issue for me with L1 and L2. Works 90% of the time, but games dependent on it can become unplayable if it's failing to register when you need it.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds very strange. I do indeed wonder if you tell them I have no clue how to do this, what would happen. My guess is: that’s on you 🤷♂️. Something to consider I suppose for future purchases
I think it is. I had a faulty RG35XX and Anbernic sent me a new motherboard instead of a new unit. I had also light bleed issues with my MM+ and they told me to take the screen off and tape it. I have the skills to do it but I had them confirm they would send me a replacement if I messed it up. So it is common and not just Anbernic.
They don't even want you to fix it, i tried getting a new board to repair my broken r2 sensor and got this. So if yours breaks and you didnt order it from China your screwed....top service I was even prepared to pay for the replacement board.....now i have a very expensive paper weight lol
The ifixit lid serves as a screw sorting tray so you don't accidently send screws into the nether!

How come no one mentions in these RG405M teardowns videos that the battery is stuck with the strongest adhesive ever known to mankind.

Unfortunately fairly normal with a lot of companies, it's why I always buy from the manufacturer directly.

I have a ghost touch problem on my screen...😢
Nice tear down video, well done Joey.
Hello! Can you write a screen model? The screen cracked on my console
There is none. Contact Anbernic.
where can I buy the aluminium or pvc casing for this device? is there a place where I can buy all the spares?

Can you put a fan on the rg405m and modify it to improve it's performance?
I also need to replace the Screen for rg405m . Could u please tell me how to order the Screen. Thanks.
Hey Joey, could you please explain how you did change your Boot logo with yours instead of the anbernic one ? Thank you for your reply.
In GammaOS, that's easy, for the 405m just create a 480x640 bmp, flash using fastboot:
fastboot flash logo yourfile.bmp

Nope that was it, exactly what I did.
Nice Joey. How about a GoPro in front and above the project with a fixed focus length?
If you buy one for me, I'm in lol!
will the switch sticks fit in these abernic devices? in case a replacement is needed?
They "should". But these are hall effect sticks.
I wonder is it possible to completely teardown a Win600 and give the Handheld a custom shell? 🤔
Hi , Is the original built-in battery 3.7 volt or 5 v ?

Nice video! But this may be beyond challenging for someone who is ignorant to tearing down an electronic device.
Yep, more of an idea to follow if you happen to be in the same situation and want to see if you can handle it.
Is it normal practice to ask your customers to “fix” this? It’s not for the average person to have these skills. 🤔🤔
I'm not sure what would have happened if I said I didn't have the skills, but for a lot of these Chinese companies, they do parts first.
